Design and implementation of remote controlling wireless transmission unit using duplex-FSK
Kim, Young-Wan ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 629~635
The FSK duplex remote controlling wireless transmission units with a common local oscillator circuit for transmitter and receiver are designed and implemented in this paper. In the FSK full-duplex the channel frequency for Tx/Rx is allocated, a common switching oscillator circuit for Tx/Rx is designed in the FSK half-duplex scheme. Both of FSK units get functions of automatic channel detection for busy channels and channel configuration for an idle channel in order to reduce the RF channel interference and are designed as a remote controller with small-sized low power of 10mW and the 400MHz-colpitz type PLL configuration of 50kHz channel separation. The full-duplex Tx/Rx link frequency gets frequency difference of 42.8MHz, which is double of 21.4MHz IF frequency.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 636~644
This paper presents a compact, low insertion loss, sharp rejection and wide band microstrip band pass filter that is composed rectangular loop resonator and step-impedance-open-stub(SIOS) for wireless data communication. The SIOS can be reduce length about 30% more than general
stub. And the stub can the advantage of tuning impedance magnitude. In order to demonstrate agrement of this paper prove, the optimized wide band pass filters are realized and experimented. A transmission line model used to calculate the frequency response of the new filters shows good agreement with measurements. The filter has 3dB fractional bandwith of 52.5%(3.267GHz), an insertion loss of better than 0.33dB from 4.587GHz to 7.854GHz, and two rejection of greater than 30dB within 221MHz
at low frequency band, 181MHz
at high frequency band. Maximum rejection characteristics of the filter are -54dB at low frequency and -60dB at high frequency.

Choi, Young-Chol ; Park, Jong-Won ; Lim, Yong-Kon ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 645~651
In this paper, we present bit error rate(BER) performance of an adaptive decision feedback equalizer(DFE) using experimental data. The experiment was performed at the shore of Geoje in November 2007. The BER of the adaptive DFE whose tap weight is updated by RLS is described with change of feedforward filter length, feedback filter length, training sequence length, and delay, which shows that the uncoded average BER is
with transmission range of 9.7km and 4km, respectively. The BER of the adaptive DFE can be lower than 10-3 by a forward error correction code and therefore the adaptive DFE may be a good candidate for a high speed AUV communications since the volume and weight of the underwater acoustic modem should be small because of the restricted space and power in the battery-operated AUV.

Choi, Jae-Seung ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 652~657
This paper proposes an adaptive noise suppression system based on human auditory model to enhance speech signal that is degraded by various background noises. The proposed system detects voiced, unvoiced and silence sections for each frame and implements an adaptive auditory process, then reduces the noise speech signal using a neural network including amplitude component and phase component. Based on measuring signal-to-noise ratios, experiments confirm that the proposed system is effective for speech signal that is degraded by various noises.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 668~674
In this paper, we design and implement a high speed power-line communication modem, supported up to the transmission rate of 480kbps in a lower frequency band of under 450kHz. The power-line channel model is discussed in the sense of the lower frequency band, and the transmission technique of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered to improve the throughput effectively. According to the power-line channel variation, the designed modem can select the modulation mapping between a 16-QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) or a QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying). Thus, it makes a sufficient QoS even in a poor channel environments. With a implementation result, we show that it gives a variable transmission rate of 480kbps or 240kbps in the signal bandwidth of

Kim, Gil-Ho ; Park, Chang-Soo ; Kim, Jong-Nam ; Cho, Gyeong-Yeon ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 675~683
RC6 which has different algorithm of encryption and decryption has been proposed to have the same algorithm between encryption and decryption through inserting symmetry layer using simple rotate and logical operation. That means the half of whole RC6 round uses encryption algorithm and the rest of it uses decryption one and symmetry layer has been put into the middle of encryption and decryption. The proposed RC6 algorithm has no difference with the original one in the speed of process. However it is quite safe because by inserting symmetry layer the path of high probability which is needed for differential and linear analysis is cut off so that it is hard to be analyzed. The proposed symmetry layer algorithm can be easily applied to the algorithm which has different encryption and decryption and make it same, and it can be good idea to be used to design a new block cipher algorithm.

Moon, Il-Nam ; Lee, Sin-Joo ; Kim, Jang-Hyung ; Lee, Kwang-Man ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 684~690
In this paper, we proposed a new method of the steganography based on bit plane using similarity. Applying a fixed threshold, the insert information into all bit planes showed different image quality. Therefore, we first defined the bit plane of block similarity to solve the fixing threshold problem. We then proposed a new method using the Bit Plane complexity and similarity to insert information into bit planes of block. In the experiment, we inserted information into the standard images with the same image quality and same insertion capacity. Finally analyzed the insertion capacity and image quality. As a result, the proposed method increased the insertion capacity of about 6% and improved the image quality of about 3.3dB than fixing threshold method.

You, Il-Sun ; Kim, Heung-Jun ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 691~699
Recently, the ERO protocol has been adopted as a standard to protect the routing optimization mode introduced by MIPv6. This protocol uses the public key cryptography and the early binding update method to improve the Return Routeability protocol while optimizing both security and performance. On the other hand, though various security approaches including the ERO protocol have been proposed for MIPv6, they lack formal verification. Especially, to our best knowledge, there is no formal analysis on the ERO protocol. In order to provide a good example for formal analysis on MIPv6 security protocols, this paper verifies the correctness of the ERO protocol through BAN-logic. For this goal, BAN-logic is extended to consider the address tests on the mobile nodes's CoA and HoA. It is expected that the analysis presented in this paper will be useful for the formal verifications on the security protocols related to MIPv6.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 700~713
Most of any existing classification algorithm in data mining area have focused on goals improving efficiency, which is to generate decision tree more rapidly by utilizing just less computing resources. In this paper, we focused on the efficiency as well as effectiveness that is able to generate more meaningful classification rules in application area, which might consist of the ontology automatic generation, business environment and so on. For this, we proposed not only novel function with the weight of support and confidence degree but also analyzed the characteristics of the weighted function in theoretical viewpoint. Furthermore, we proposed novel classification algorithm based on the weighted function and the characteristics. In the result of evaluating the proposed algorithm, we could perceive that the novel algorithm generates more classification rules with significance more rapidly.

Lee, Hwa-Min ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 714~719
Recently, RESTful web service is getting attention with the emergence of Web 2.0. The main advantages of REST web services are lightweight and easy implementation compared to SOAP based web services. In order to define and describe RESTful APIs, various methods have proposed. WSDL 2.0 can describe both SOAP-based and RESTful services and but it is too complicated. WADL is championed by Sun Microsystems and it is lightweight, easier to understand and easier to write than WSDL. The purpose of WADL is to allow web services to be described in a machine readable way, to make it easy to create Web 2.0 applications and create a dynamic way of creating and configuring services. However, WADL does not provide utility tools to generate client code automatically and the developers describe client code manually. In this paper, we design and implement a WADL2Stub system to generate client code from WADL files automatically so that the developers use REST web services to easily and conveniently.

Most solution of this problem depends on how execute effectively required refreshing query within timely time. In this paper, we propose the refreshing scheduling algorithm to retain the freshness of data and fairness of starvation of requested refresh queries. Our algorithm recompute a rate of goal refreshing a every period to assign execution time of requested refreshing query so that we can keep the freshness and fairness of data by using proposed algorithm. We implement the web sites to showing the results of refreshing process of dynamic and semi-dynamic and static data.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 727~736
In this paper, the
arithmetic unit for mobile graphics accelerator is designed. The mobile vector graphics applications need tight area, execution time, power dissipation, and accuracy constraints compared to desktop PC applications. The designed processor adopts 2nd-order polynomial approximation scheme based on IEEE floating point data format to satisfy speed and accuracy conditions and reduces area via hardware sharing structure. The arccosine processor consists of 15,280 gates and its estimated operating frequency is about 125Mhz at operating condition of
CMOS technology. Because the processor can execute arccosine function within 7 clock cycles, it has about 17 MOPS(million arccos operations per second) execution rate and can be applicable to mobile OpenVG processor. And because of its flexible architecture, it can be applicable to the various transcendental functions such as exponential, trigonometric and logarithmic functions via replacement of ROM and minor hardware modification.

Hwang, Gyung-Ho ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 759~764
A new backoff scheme for infrastructure mode in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs is proposed to improve a performance. Each station generates a unique backoff number using total number of stations, fairness parameter included in beacon frame and an user's ID that is assigned by AP. The station sends a packet after its own backoff number of idle slots, which makes a collision free access among stations within AP's coverage. The proposed method shows better performance in the view of channel utilization and packet delay than an original IEEE 802.11 CSMA/CA backoff scheme.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 765~773
Currently Telematics traffic information services have been various because we can collect real-time traffic information through Intelligent Transport System. In this paper, we proposed and implemented a short-term traffic information prediction model for giving to guarantee the traffic information with high quality in the near future. A Short-term prediction model is for forecasting traffic flows of each segment in the near future. Our prediction model gives an average speed on the each segment from 5 minutes later to 60 minutes later. We designed a Bayesian network for each segment with some casual nodes which makes an impact to the road situation in the future and found out its joint probability density function on the supposition of GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) using EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithm with training real-time traffic data. To validate the precision of our prediction model we had conducted various experiments with real-time traffic data and computed RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) between a real speed and its prediction speed. As the result, our model gave 4.5, 4.8, 5.2 as an average value of RMSE about 10, 30, 60 minutes later, respectively.

A wireless sensor network consisting of a large number of nodes with limited battery power should minimize energy consumption at each node to prolong the network lifetime. To improve the sensitivity of wireless sensor networks, an efficient scheduling algorithm and energy management technology for minimizing the energy consumption at each node is desired. ill this paper, we propose energy-aware routing mechanism for maximum lifetime and to optimize the solution quality for sensor network maintenance and to relay node from its adjacent cluster heads according to the node"s residual energy and its distance to the base station. Proposed protocol may minimize the energy consumption at each node, thus prolong the lifetime of the system regardless of where the sink is located outside or inside the cluster. Simulation results of proposed scheme show that our mechanism balances the energy consumption well among all sensor nodes and achieves an obvious improvement on the network lifetime. To verify propriety using NS-2, proposed scheme constructs sensor networks adapt to current model and evaluate consumption of total energy, energy consumption of cluster head, average energy dissipation over varying network areas with HEED and LEACH-C.

Kang, Dae-Ki ; Hwang, Gi-Hyun ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 4, 2009, Pages 805~812
In many intrusion detection applications, n-gram approach has been widely applied. However, n-gram approach has shown a few problems including unscalability and double counting of features. To address those problems, we applied n-gram augmented Naive Bayes with k-truncated suffix tree (k-TST) storage mechanism directly to classify intrusive sequences and compared performance with those of Naive Bayes and Support Vector Machines (SVM) with n-gram features by the experiments on host-based intrusion detection benchmark data sets. Experimental results on the University of New Mexico (UNM) benchmark data sets show that the n-gram augmented method, which solves the problem of independence violation that happens when n-gram features are directly applied to Naive Bayes (i.e. Naive Bayes with n-gram features), yields intrusion detectors with higher accuracy than those from Naive Bayes with n-gram features and shows comparable accuracy to those from SVM with n-gram features. For the scalable and efficient counting of n-gram features, we use k-truncated suffix tree mechanism for storing n-gram features. With the k-truncated suffix tree storage mechanism, we tested the performance of the classifiers up to 20-gram, which illustrates the scalability and accuracy of n-gram augmented Naive Bayes with k-truncated suffix tree storage mechanism.
