Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1483~1490
This parer is presented multiple path-planning of unmanned autonomous forklift using modified genetic algorithm and fuzzy inference system. There are a task-level feedback method and a method that path is dynamically replaned in realtime while the autonomous vehicles are moving by means of an optimal algorithm for existing multiple path-planning. However, such methods cause malfunctions and inefficiency in the sense of time and energy, and path-planning should be dynamically replanned in realtime. To solve these problems, we propose multiple path-planning using modified genetic algorithm and fuzzy inference system and show the performance with autonomous vehicles. For experiment, we designed and built two autonomous mobile vehicles that equipped with the same driving control part used in actual autonomous forklift, and test the proposed multiple path-planning algorithm. Experimental result that actual autonomous mobile vehicle, we verified that fast optimized path-planning and efficient collision avoidance are possible.

The experimental results showed that in calculation time was 35% in average, which means that ls ge ses. The ein calculation time and output data can be obtls ed with a cost of an acceptlble image quality degradation.
Adaptive Frame Level Rate Control for H.264
Park, Sang-Hyun ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1505~1512
This paper propose a new frame level rate control algorithm for improving video quality and decreasing quality variation of an entire video sequence in a very low bit rate environment. In the proposed scheme, the allocated bits to a GOP are distributed to each frame properly according to the frame characteristics as well as the buffer status and the channel bandwidth. The H.264 standard uses various coding modes and optimization methods to improve the compression performance, which makes it difficult to control the generated traffic accurately. In this paper, proper prediction models for low bit rate environments are lust proposed, and a target distortion is determined using the models. According to the target distortion, the bit budget is allocated to each frame. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can generate the PSNR performance better than that of the existing rate control algorithm.

The SVC (Scalable Video Coding) scheme can be effectively used for reducing the redundancy and for improving the coding efficiency but, it requires very high computational complexities. In order to accelerate the successful standardization and commercialization of the Advanced Terrestrial-DMB service, it is necessary to overcome this problem. For this aim, in this paper, we propose an efficient aggregated encoder control algorithm, which shows better performances than the conventional control scheme. Computer simulation result shows that the proposed scheme performs about up to 0.3dB better than those of the conventional scheme. Additionally, based on this control scheme, we propose a fast mode decision method by constraining the redundant coding modes based on the statistical properties of the quantization parameter in the spatial scalable encoder. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed control schemes reduce the heavy computational burden up to 12% compared to the conventional scheme, while keeping the objective visual qualify very high.

Chung, Hae ; Hong, Jung-Ho ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1549~1560
In the TDMA PON system, the DBA is essential for ONUs to send data efficiently to the upstream. In this paper, we implement a DBA processor for the G-PON OLT with downstream and upstream rate, 2.5 and 1.25 Gbps, respectively, The processor collects bandwidth request messages from ONUs at every cycle time and allocates properly bandwidth to each Alloc-ID with considering priority and fairness for traffics. In the proposed DBA algorithm, one cycle time consists of multiple G-PON frames (
) for high link efficiency. In particular, the link efficiency is higher because the algorithm adopts a method that an additional overhead is eliminated when an allocated bandwidth is laid between two G-PON frames for an ONU. This enables that the processor flexibly allocates the bandwidth from zero to the maximum link capacity for an ONU. The proposed DBA processor is implemented with the FPGA and shows bandwidth allocating processes for ONUs with logic analyzer.

Cho, Gyeong-Yeon ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1593~1600
There are two major algorithms to find a square root of floating point number, one is the Newton_Raphson algorithm and GoldSchmidt algorithm which calculate it approximately by iterating multiplications and the other is SRT algorithm which calculates it exactly by iterating subtractions. This paper proposes an exact floating point square root algorithm using only multiplication. At first an approximate inverse square root is calculated by Newton_Raphson algorithm, and then an exact square root algorithm by reducing an error in it and a compensation algorithm of it are proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified to calculate all of numbers in a single precision floating point number and 1 billion random numbers in a double precision floating point number. The proposed algorithm requires only the multipliers without another hardware, so it can be widely used in an embedded system and mobile production which requires an efact square root of floating point number.

Generally, the Terminal Based Navigation System(TBNS) used embedded road data searches a path that has less qualitative than The Center Based Navigation System(CBNS). TBNS has not used real time road data but it is recently able to use it with technique such as TPEG. However, it causes to increase a cost of exploring by using real time road data for improvement quality of a path, because of limited performance. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Heuristic to improve quality of path in the TBNS. Dynamic Heuristic(DH) is not fixed data and is dynamically modified using transferred real time road data from server. In this paper, we propose path-lading algorithm with Maximum Speed Dynamic Heuristic (DH-MAX) and do an experiment. The DH-MAX is to be used the highest speed as DH, in real map divided by same size. And proposed algorithm searches path using the priority searching only of the fixed data, but also the highest speed with real time information. In the performance test, the quality of path is enhanced but the cost of searching is increased than A* algorithm.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1653~1658
SoC(System on a Chip) has several masters, slaves, arbiter and decoder in bus architecture. Master initiates the data transactions like CPU, DMA and DSP and slave responses the data transactions like SRAM, SDRAM and register. Furthermore, as multiple masters can't use a bus concurrently, arbiter plays an role in bus arbitration. In compliance with the selection of arbitration method, SoC performance can be changed definitely. In this study, we compare the characteristics of various arbitration policies using TLM(Transaction Level Model) method. Fixed priority, round-robin, TDMA and Lottery bus policies are used in general arbitration method. We analyze the merit and demerit of these arbitration policies.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1659~1665
In this paper, we propose an implementation method of 3D image correlator using integral imaging technique. In the proposed method, elemental images of the reference and signal 3D objects are recorded by lenslet arrays and then reference and signal output plane images with high resolution are optically reconstructed on the output plane by displaying these elemental images into a display panel. Through cross-correlations between the reconstructed reference and the single plane images, 3D object recognition is performed. The proposed method can provide a precise 3D object recognition by using the high-resolution output plane images compared with the previous methods and implement all-optical structure for real-time 3D object recognition system. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, optical experiments are carried out and the results are presented.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1666~1672
Since wide display devices have recently become popular for communication activity, it is desirable for effective communication to share those displays in an efficient way. VNC(Virtual Network Computing) is a desktop sharing software, which transmits the desktop screen and the related events to other computers on different places. So, through VNC, it is possible for more than two users to share the same desktop screen at the same time. But it is very cumbersome to share wide display devices through the functions currently supported by VNC. In this paper, we describe the development of CoDisplay which is a VNC-based conference tool for efficient sharing of a wide display device. Conference participants connect to the wide display device through the associated network address, and transmit their desktop screen to the device. The control functions for the participants support the division of the display screen for multiple desktop screens and the switchover of desktop screens.
Adaptive Rate Control for Wireless Multicast
Kim, Sung-Won ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1673~1678
Multicast can transmit data packet to multiple terminals by using only one transmission and enhances the system performance. However, the multicast transmission rate is fixed and the system performance is not optimized. In this paper, we propose an adaptive multicast rate control method. In the proposed method, orthogonal subcarrier is assigned to each terminal. Each terminal informs the channel status using the allocated subcarrier. Transmitter selects the optimal rate using the feedback information. With the proposed adaptive rate control method, the system performance is enhanced compared with the legacy multicast method.

Odor sensing system that is electronic nose device and its signal processing technique has potential to become a critical service for the people who require tangibility of sense of smell in the multimedia communication. PCA(Principal Component Analysis) have been used for dimensionality reduction and visualization of multivariate measurement data. PCA is good for estimating importance value by variance of data but, have some limitation for getting meaningful representation from odor sensing system. This paper explain about how to analyze the data of odor sensing system by ICA(Independent Component Analysis). We show that ICA can give better result like sensor drift analysis, dimensionality reduction and data representation by improved discrimination.

Park, Heum ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1687~1692
Cyber forensics is used the process and technology of digital forensics as a criminal investigation in cyber space. Cyber crime is classified into cyber terror and general cyber crime, and those two classes are connected with each other. The investigation of cyber terror requires high technology, system environment and experts, and general cyber crime is connected with general crime by evidence from digital data in cyber space. Accordingly, it is difficult to determine relational crime types, collect evidence and the legal admissibility of evidence. Therefore, we considered the classifications of cyber crime, the collection of evidence in cyber space and the application of laws to cyber crime. In order to efficiently investigate cyber crime, it is necessary to integrate those concepts for each cyber crime-case. In this paper, we constructed a cyber forensics domain ontology for cyber criminal investigation using the concepts, relations and properties, according to categories of cyber crime, laws, evidence, and information of criminals and crime-cases. This ontology can be used in the process of investigating of cyber crime-cases, and for data mining of cyber crime; classification, clustering, association and detection of crime types, crime cases, evidences and criminals.

Kim, Kwang-Baek ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1699~1704
If detected early enough, cervical cantor may have a good survival rate due to its preneoplastic state. However, the process is so time consuming that a medical expert can handle only a small amount of such examinations. In this paper, we propose a new nucleus extraction algorithm for uterine cervical pap smears in order to mitigate such burdens of medical experts. In the preneoplastic state cytodiagnosis images, it is important to differentiate three main areas - background, cytoplasm and nucleus. Thus, we apply lighting compensation and
mask of B channel in order to restore damaged image and remove noises respectively. The cell object is obtained from those clean binarized images with Grossfire algorithm. When there are clusters of cells, the target nucleus can be obtained with repetitive binarization of R channel brightness. In our experiment of using uterine cervical pap smears of 400 magnifications that is common in the diagnostic cytology, our method is able to extract 40 nucleus out of 45 population successfully.

Park, Yong-Uk ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1705~1712
Recently, most Korean syntactic analysis systems use Dependency Grammar, because it is quite good to analysis of Korean language structures. But Dependency Grammar makes many ambiguities during syntax analysis of Korean. We implement a system which decreases many ambiguities in syntax analysis. To decrease ambiguities we suggest several methods. First, we use about 200 dependency rules, second, we suggest a new segmentation method and third, one predicate can not have more than one subject or object. Using these methods, we can reduce many ambiguities in Korean syntactic analysis.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 13, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1729~1735
The hierarchical routing could cause a lot of energy consumption for transferring data by assigning hierarchical routes although actual nodes could be located in physically near spots. Also, when Node Failure or Association Error occurs, the Hierarchical routing could waste more energy to deliver the control messages. This paper evaluate performance of SHP(Shortest Hop Routing) algorithm that suggests short-cut routing algorithm using NL(Neighbor List) and Redirect_ACK message to improve problem of hierarchical routing algorithm. We do a computer simulation by the size of network, deployment of sensor nodes, sink position and POS. As a result of simulation, SHP has better performance than Zigbee Hierarchical routing and HiLow.
