Adaptive Initial QP Determination Algorithm for Low Bit Rate Video Coding

In Video coding, the first frame is encoded in intra mode which generates a larger number of bits. In addition, the first frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus the intial QP for the first frame of GOP affects the first frame as well as the following frames. Traditionally, the initial QP of a GOP is determined by the initial QP of the previous GOP and the average QP of the inter mode frames. In case of JM, the initial QP of a GOP is adjusted as the initial QP being less than the average QP of inter mode frames by two. However, this method is not suitable for the low bit rate video coding. In this paper, the linear relationship between the optimal QP and the ratio of the PSNR of the first frame and the average PSNR of the inter mode frames is first investigated and the linear model is proposed based on the results of the investigation. The proposed model calculate the optimal initial QP using the encoding results of the previous GOP. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can predict the optimal initial QP more accurately and generate the PSNR performance better than that of the existing JM algorithm.
A Study of Telegraph Lever Control System for a ship Propulsion Thruster System Operation

A ship propulsion thruster platform which is used by safety sailing takes charge of remote control of a main engine in ship. This system not only guarantees safety and reliable flight sailing but also require remote control technology of a ship. Accordingly, in this paper it deals with a telegraph lever control unit system which is a part of propulsion thruster system as localization technology. Also it makes sure of knowledge and core technology through analysis and designing and developing a telegraph lever control unit system. Moreover, it is sure of acquisition of base technology for integration of a ship propulsion thruster platform.
Robust Face and Facial Feature Tracking in Image Sequences

AAM(Active Appearance Model) is one of the most effective ways to detect deformable 2D objects and is a kind of mathematical optimization methods. The cost function is a convex function because it is a least-square function, but the search space is not convex space so it is not guaranteed that a local minimum is the optimal solution. That is, if the initial value does not depart from around the global minimum, it converges to a local minimum, so it is difficult to detect face contour correctly. In this study, an AAM-based face tracking algorithm is proposed, which is robust to various lighting conditions and backgrounds. Eye detection is performed using SIFT and Genetic algorithm, the information of eye are used for AAM's initial matching information. Through experiments, it is verified that the proposed AAM-based face tracking method is more robust with respect to pose and background of face than the conventional basic AAM-based face tracking method.
Biological Early Warning System for Toxicity Detection

Biological early warning system detects toxicity by looking at behavior of organisms in water. The system uses classifier for judgement about existence and amount of toxicity in water. Boosting algorithm is one of possible application method for improving performance in a classifier. Boosting repetitively change training example set by focusing on difficult examples in basic classifier. As a result, prediction performance is improved for the events which are difficult to classify, but the information contained in the events which can be easily classified are discarded. In this paper, an incremental learning method to overcome this shortcoming is proposed by using the extended data expression. In this algorithm, decision tree classifier define class distribution information using the weight parameter in the extended data expression by exploiting the necessary information not only from the well classified, but also from the weakly classified events. Experimental results show that the new algorithm outperforms the former Learn++ method without using the weight parameter.
Obstacle Recognition by 3D Feature Extraction for Mobile Robot Navigation in an Indoor Environment

This paper deals with the method of using the three dimensional characteristic information to classify the front environment in travelling by using the images captured by a CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. The images detected by the three dimensional characteristic information is divided into the part of obstacles, the part of corners, and th part of doorways in a corridor. In designing the travelling path of a mobile robot, these three situations are used as an important information in the obstacle avoidance and optimal path computing. So, this paper proposes the method of deciding the travelling direction of a mobile robot with using input images based upon the suggested algorithm by preprocessing, and verified the validity of the image information which are detected as obstacles by the analysis through neural network.

This paper presents an integrated control module for controlling transportation machine and automatic navigation using a combined technology of mobile telematics and transportation machine telematics, i.e. Mobile In Vehicle (MIV). This development includes hardware implementation and its verification of control mechanism applied to vehicle. In particular, the module is designed to be versatile in such a way that it can collect various information and facilitate various options for convenience by supporting existing networks, such as TCP/IP, Wi-Fi and 3G mobile radio networks. The study offers its versatility, intelligence and cost-effectiveness by enabling the module to support network-independent service, whereas conventional modules operate only in a certain network. Based on this module, a multiple of subsequent convenient functions for transportation machine can further be developed for safe and intelligent transportation machines.
A New Mobility Management Scheme in Proxy Mobile IPv6 Networks with Dynamic Paging Support

Proxy Mobile IPv6(PMIPv6) is a network-based mobility management protocol and it does not require mobile node's involving in mobility management. In PMIPv6, the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) incurs a high signaling cost to update the location of a mobile node to the remote Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) if it moves frequently. It may cause excessive signaling traffic and increase a high traffic load on LMA. Therefore, we propose a new mobility management scheme in proxy mobile IPv6 networks with dynamic paging support. To minimize signaling overhead, in our proposal, the size of the paging area is determined dynamically according the changes of mobility and traffic patterns of the mobile node. An analytic model is applied to determine the optimal size of the paging area. The cost analysis using fluid flow model presented in this paper shows that our proposal can achieve performance superior that of PMIPv6 scheme.
Modification of Extended Version of IEEE 802.11 in ns-2 and Performance Analysis with Error Rate Using Computer Simulation

Ns-2 is a proven simulator which is widely utilized to evaluate the performance of wired and wireless network. Ns-2.33 version introduced the extended version including the modules which the core functions of existing 802.11 PHY and MAC layer are implemented. However, if the error rate, one of most important parameters to evaluate a performance of wireless network, is applied to the extended version, the simulation is ceased with several fatal errors. Furthermore, a packet error is detected and discarded on MAC layer in the traditional protocol architecture, but there is the problem which can't identify information about a packet with error by processing packet error on PHY layer in this version. In this paper, we modify the extended version to resolve the above mentioned problems. And also we perform ns-2 simulation using the modified version on the IEEE 802.11p based vehicular ad-hoc networks, and then analyze effects of error rate.
Reconstructing Curves With Self-intersections

We propose a new algorithm for reconstructing curves with self-intersections from sample points. In general, the result of curve reconstruction depends on how to select and order the representative points to resemble the shape of sample points. Most of the previous point ordering approaches utilize the Euclidean distance to compute the proximity of sample points without directional information, so they can not solve the non-simple curve reconstruction problem. In this paper, we develop a new distance estimating the adjacency between sample points, which is derived from the standard normal distribution of Brownian motion. Experimental results show that this approach is very effective to non-simple curve reconstruction.
FPGA Implementation of Scan Conversion Unit using SIMD Architecture and Hierarchical Tile-based Traversing Method

In this paper, we present research results of developing high performance scan conversion unit and implementing it on FPGA chip. To increase performance of scan conversion unit, we propose an architecture of scan converter that is a SIMD architecture and uses tile-based traversing method. The proposed scan conversion unit can operate about 124Mhz clock frequency on Xilinx Vertex4 LX100 device. To verify the scan conversion unit, we also develop shader unit, texture mapping unit and
color TFT-LCD controller to display outputs of the scan conversion unit on TFT-LCD. Because the scan conversion unit implemented on FPGA has 311Mpixels/sec pixel rate, it is applicable to desktop pc's 3d graphics system as well as mobile 3d graphics system needing high pixel rates.

This article first defines the concept of ubiquitous learning, and then examine ways to design the educational environment for e-Learning and u-Learning. Next, identifies some disadvantages before seeking possible solutions. Finally, the article explores visions of how ubiquitous learning might look in the future. With the advent of information, communication and computer technologies, the needs and demands for ubiquitous learning are largely emerging, enabling students to easily access everything they want anytime, anywhere. In particular, the advance of high-speed broadband networks such as DMB, WiBro and WCDMA and the proliferation of portable digital devices including DMB, PDA and high-performance mobile phones will encourage the widespread adoption of u-Learning.

In contemporary society, though convenience and efficiency of work using information system is growing high, adverse effect problems of malignant code, system hacking, information leak by insiders due to the development of the network are raising their head daily. Because of this, enormous work forces and expenses for the recovery and management of system is needed. The existing system can be divided into two aspects: security solution which surveils and treats virus and malignant codes, and network management solution which observes the system of computer, and practices maintenance and repair such as management, recovery, backup. This treatise applied Active Write Filter mechanism and the technology based on NFS and complemented the maintenance problems of user data of the existing system and designed the system which enables solving problems of intellectual property right such as information protection and illegal work.

The illegal copy of computer software have been one of the most serious threats in information society. But a number of protection schemes to solve it have proposed, there are a lot of difficulties for prevention from illegally distributing software through emerging Internet environments. In this paper, we propose a software watermarking scheme for Java programs which it have been popular on the Internet. The proposed scheme can be efficiently implemented and provide a robust software watermark for the protection of the copyright of Java programs.
A Study on Improved Split Algorithms for Moving Object Trajectories in Limited Storage Space

With the development of wireless network technology, the location information of a spatiotemporal object which changes their location is used in various application. Each spatiotemporal object has many location information, hence it is inefficient to search all trajectory information of spatiotemporal objects for a range query. In this paper, we propose an efficient method which divides a trajectory and stores its division data on restricted storage space. Using suboptimal split algorithm, an extended split algorithm that minimizes the volume of EMBRs(Extended Minimum Bounding Box) is designed and simulated. Our experimental evaluation confirms the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed splitting policy

The diluted PMMA treated
films as an passivation materials for semiconductor devices was researched by using the FTIR spectra. The diluted PMMA solution with various ratios changed the surface of
film as the hydrophilic, hydrophobic or hybrid type properties. The sample 7 with little carbon content showed dramatically the chemical variation by the FTIR spectra analysis. Beacuse the little carbon with electrons decreased the polarity and surface energy on the
film, and then became a stable bonding structure and decreased the leakage current. The FTIR spectra can define the detail variation due to the chemical reaction on the organic thin film, and help to research the characteristic of the organic materials.
Design of Interface Module for Driving of Image Processing Using FPGA

Interface modules design between image sensor and external components are designed by FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) in this paper. Generally speaking, to satisfy synchronization for the poor quality data in image, SRAM is needed. To receive synchronization signal and image signal data with pixel dimension, the proposed interface logic technique is implemented. From the proposed technique, we can obtain more clear screen by implementing with pixel dimension. Operating frequency of image sensor and that of TFT-LCD are 50MHz and 6.5MHz, respectively. Most of control logic functions are embedded in FPGA. The designed logic gate counter has 33,216 and is designed by Quartus II.
Performance Analysis of Bandwidth-Awared Bus Arbitration Method

The general bus system architecture consists of masters, slaves, arbiter, decoder and so on in shared bus. As several masters can't use a bus concurrently, arbiter plays an role in bus arbitration. In compliance with the selection of arbitration method, The efficiency of bus usage can be determined. Fixed Priority, Round-Robin, TDMA, Lottery arbitration are studied in conventional arbitration method. Conventional arbitration method is considered bus priority primarily, actual bus utilization didn't considered. In this paper, we propose arbitration method using bus utilization operating block of each master, we verify the performance compared with the other arbitration methods through throughput performance. From the result of performance verification, we confirm that proposed arbitration method, matched bus utilization set by the user 40%, 20%, 20%, 20%.
A Study on Stereo Visualization of the X-ray Scanned Image Based on Dual-line Sensors

This paper presents a 3-D visualization technique using stereo radioactive images to provide efficient inspection of fast moving cargo objects. The proposed technique can be used for such objects which CT or MRI cannot inspect due to restricted scan environment. Stereo radioactive images are acquired from a specially designed equipment which consists of a X-ray source, linear radioactive sensors, and a moving stage. Two radioactive sensors are installed so that rectified stereo X-ray images of objects are acquired. Using the stereo X-ray images, we run a matching algorithm to find the correspondences between the images and reconstruct 3-D shapes of real objects. The objects are put in a parallelepiped box to simulate cargo inspection. Three real objects are tested and reconstructed. Due to the inherent ambiguity in the stereo X-ray images, we reconstruct 3-D shapes of the edges of the objects. The experimental results show the proposed technique can provide efficient visualization for cargo inspection.
Compression Method for Digital Hologram using Motion Prediction Method in Frequency-domain

This paper proposes a hologram data compression scheme that uses the existing image/video compression techniques, in which the existing techniques are modified appropriately to fit to the characteristics of hologram. In this paper we use CGH as the hologram data. The proposed scheme uses the generation characteristics of a CGH to consist of a pre-processing, spatial segmentation of a CGH, frequency-transformation with 2D-DCT (2-dimensional discrete cosine transform), and motion estimation and residual image generation in the frequency-domain. It uses H.264/AVC, the lossless compressor BinHex, and a linear quantizer that we have made. From the experiments the proposed scheme showed the image quality of about 25.4 dB at the compression ratio of 10:1 and about 16.5dB at 90:1 compression ratio.
Estimation of the effect on the autonomic nervous system using the return-map

In this paper, HRV signal which was appeared RR intervals from ECG was analyzed using return-map during anesthesia. We intended to estimate the depth of anesthesia observing the change of autonomic nervous activity(ANS) because HRV showed change of cardio-vascular system of the body according to state of ANS. Return-map analysis is to reconstruct time series of HRV to phase space after calculating delay time and embedded time. After approximating the signal distribution which was reconstructed in phase space in elliptic, we calculated the lengths of major and minor axises of the elliptic and the values was used to estimate the depth of anesthesia. Stages of the anesthesia were 7 levels to evaluate the depth of anesthesia. At induction stage of strong external stimulation, the length of major and minor axis were statistically high and at the operation stage of non-external stimulation, the values were statistically low. Conclusively, the stages of anesthesia were discriminated by HRV signal mapped in the phase space during operation.
ECG Baseline Wandering Removing Algorithm using Slope analysis and Curve Point Detection

The noise component of electrocardiogram is not distributed in a certain frequency band. It is expressed in various types of signals by rater's physical and environmental conditions. Particularly, since the baseline wander is occurred by the mixture of the original signal and 0 ~ 2 [Hz] range of the frequency components according to muscle constraction of part attaching to an electrode and respiration rythm, it makes the ECG signal analysis difficult. Several methods have been proposed to eliminate the wandering effectually. However, they have some problems. In some methods, the high processing time is required due to the computational complexity, while in other cases ECG signal morphology can be distorted. This paper suggests a simple and effective algorithm that eliminates baseline wander with low computational complexity and without distorting signal morphology. First, the algorithm detects and segments a baseline wandering interval using slope analysis and curve point detection, second, approximates the wandering in the interval as a sinusoid, and then subtracts the sinusoid from signal. Finally, ecg signals without baseline wander are obtained. In order to evaluate the performance of the algorithm, several ECG signals with baseline wandering in MIT/BIH ECG database 101, 111, 113, 234 record were chosen and applied to the algorithm. It is found that the algorithm removes baseline wanders effectively without significant morphological distortion.
Cooperative Curriculum Establishment and Council Organization between University and 'Small and Medium Sized Companies' for IT Manpower Cultivation

In this paper, the cooperative curriculum between university and company according to the 'Type of IT Business(TIB)' is proposed for an IT manpower cultivation. The cooperative curriculum is established by the core technology from the matching table between 'Type of IT Business(TIB)' and 'Class of IT Techniques(CIT)'. The company participated in the cooperative curriculum gives a guarantee of the job position to the university students who took this cooperative curriculum. For the cooperative curriculum, the agreement is needed between university and company for the establishment and its operation of UCCCC(University and Company Cooperative Curriculum Council) after an exchange of the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) including the supply-demand of IT manpower, the core technology, and the job conditions. The cooperative curriculum will be useful for employments of small and medium sized companies.
A Study on the location tracking system by using Zigbee in wireless sensor network

This paper aims to realize the location tracking system using the Zigbee in the wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network offers the user-oriented location tracking service in the ubiquitous environment. The location tracking service can track the location of an object or a person and provides it. The location tracking system realized in this paper can be used inside or outside without any black-out areas to measure the location of the moving nodes. In tracking inside the RSSI signals use and in tracking outside will connect with the GPS signals to track the location. Also, by using Zigbee, the wireless sensor network environment was established and by obtaining the location of the moving nodes, the real-time tracking is possible.

In this paper, we proposed an architecture for supporting sensor transparency in sensor node operating systems, design the standard APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and sensor device abstraction to provide the sensor transparency and implemented the sensor transparency in the TinyOS, the most well known sensor node operating system. With the proposed sensor node operating system which can support the sensor transparency, application developers can develop the target applications independent to each sensor device by using the standard APIs provided by the sensor node operating system and the sensor device manufacturers also can develop sensor device drivers by using the standard hardware interfaces and HAL (Hardware Adaptation Layer) interfaces independent to the specific hardware platform of sensor nodes.
The Development of An Efficient Zigbee Bridge for Legacy Device Control

IR remote control is the most common way to control home appliances nowadays. Each legacy device is controlled with their own remote controller, and it is not standardized yet. Although it is possible to handle multiple devices with a integrated remote controller, not all the devices and command sets are supported. There are also limitations in expandability especially when new or special command sets are required. In this paper, a efficient zigbee bridge which transforms a command set sent via zigbee to IR comment set is developed. The bridge also has a learning function based on a header comparison method. When a new command is sent, the bridge learn the new code. When a existing code is sent, the bridge dispatches applicable IR command to the appliance. With this approach, it is possible to obtain expandability and flexibility for new commands, and increase the communication efficiency up to 56.8 times.
A Geographical Routing Protocol Based on Agent for Wireless Sensor Networks

An agent based geographic routing protocol is proposed to improve the well-known geographic routing protocol-GPSR routing protocol. In the proposed scheme, the agent is selected by sink node which concern about the source node's position as well as agent candidate's state. So packets will first be forwarded to agent and next step is to be forwarded to their final goal- sink node from agent. During the next hop selection process, nodes select their neighbors by considering not only position but also their average available buffer size. This results in efficient selection of next hop node in congestion area, and then increases the successful packet delivery ratio. The simulation is conducted for two scenarios: general number of connections and large number of connections in our map. Results show that new method with agent achieves improved performance in successful packet delivery ratio when compares to GPSR without our scheme.

It requires to understand the nature of complexity, what its effects are, and how to quantify them. A study on improving the low capability of direction finding by interfered phase difference at circular array antennas

This paper includes the study of DOA(Direction of Arrival). CVDF(Correlative Vector Direction Finding) algorithm using at the phase difference each antenna needs to obtain ideal sinusoidal phase difference patterns. However, the phase difference patterns of circular array antennas may be interfered on a specific frequency band and to particular angle. The effect of installing each array antenna circularly and the effect of the interference by center pole (located in the center of a circular array antennas) may distort the phase difference patterns. This paper propose how to change the combination of antennas to measure phase difference patterns in real-time and how to use antenna beam patterns for minimizing the degradation phenomena with old CVDF algorithm. According to the test result, the capability of direction finding is improved.
A Study on the Implementation of Digital Radio Frequency Memory

Digital Radio Frequency Memory, ( as DRFM ), is a device with the ability to restore output to the input RF signal in the required time after storing the incoming RF signals. Therefore DRFM is widely used in Jammer, EW Simulator, Target Echo Generator, and so on. This paper proposes its hardware implementation composed with the high frequency part and the digital processing part consisting of RF input/output module and local oscillator module. It is also proposed the replicated signal generation method which is consisted of the Analog-Digital conversion in the form of pulsed RF signal quantization, and FPGA to save and produce the playback signal, and RF signals to produce a Digital-Analog Conversion in the digital processing unit. This proposed scheme applied to test board and confirmed the validity of the proposed scheme through the test results obtained by the simulated input signals.
