Design of Monitoring System for Managing Officer's Operation with Supporting of Nautical Safety

Although navigation systems and automatic identification technologies are in use for nautical safety of ocean vessels, ship collisions are increasing due to the growing number of overseas transportations. Since these accidents are mostly caused by the watch officers and crews' human mistakes, it is essential to develop a new set of systems to prevent such misfortunes. Therefore, we suggest a control and management system which monitors crews in order to conduct secure on-board navigation and nautical safety. We also materialized a mobile terminal system and portable device for the crews to check the status of the ship, and we designed a platform for an integrated surveillance system to assure a harmless voyage. Lastly, we attested the mutual connections of integrated safety-related data.
Analysis of Radio Interference for Korean NDGPS Reference Station using Medium Frequency Band

The Korean DGPS station transmits the 200 bps GPS enhancement signal using the MSK modulation in frequency range of 283.5 kHz to 325 kHz. The land-based stations of 6 sites provide the service area of 80 km with the output power of 500 W. The ocean-based stations of 11 sites provide the output power of 300 W, which provide the DGPS service to 185 kM. Some places are serviced from two or three DGPS stations. The interferences among the DGPS stations using the high power can be occurred. Also, the performances of the user terminasl in dual service area can be degraded. In this paper, the protection ratios for the DGPS service are defined. Using the MF wave propagation model, the interferences among the DGPS stations and the adjacent wireless ground stations are analyzed. Also, the performances of DGPS user terminals are analyzed in the viewpoint of interference.
Service Coverage Analysis on Land-based DGPS Station due to Output Power Enhancement

Korean NDGPS, which consists of the ocean-based reference station of 11 site and the land-based reference station of 6 sites, are operating. The land-based reference stations provide the output power of 500W, the service shadow regions are occurred due to mountains and nation topography. In this paper, the service coverages of land-based reference stations are analyzed in the viewpoint of output power enhancements of land-based reference stations within 1KW. Also, we suggest virtual land DGPS reference stations 2 sites to resolve the service shadow regions.
Analysis of High Efficiency Small Antenna with Matching Circuit

This paper deals with the analysis of high efficiency small antenna like superconductor antenna. The superconductor antenna is useful to low frequency range because surface resistance of superconductor increased with the rate of square of frequency. Thus, the used antenna increases in size. For such a reason, the role of the matching circuit is very important in small antenna. In this paper, low loss antenna included the optimal structure of matching circuit is analyzed by using quasi-static approximation. To verify the results of this paper, input impedance and radiation characteristics of this antenna have been evaluated.
An Analysis of Maximum Allowable Transmission Output Level between Adjacent Channels in TV Frequency Band

We make an analysis of maximum allowable transmission output level to get the solution how heterogeneous systems between adjacent channels can be used in TVWS(TV White Space). The two applied systems are WLAN and WiBro and the overall performances are analyzed based on simulation results according to various density and transmission output of interfering transmitter. In order to get the relationship between interfering density of two systems and allowable maximum transmitter output, we consider the case that a WLAN is an interfering transmitter and a WiBro is a victim receiver. Each simulation results, obtained by free space channel model, are analyzed by SEAMCAT. Coexistence results may be widely applied into the technique development to get the coexisting condition for wireless devices using many communication protocols in an adjacent frequency and a same frequency.
Comparison of Characteristic Vector of Speech for Gender Recognition of Male and Female

This paper proposes a gender recognition algorithm which classifies a male or female speaker. In this paper, characteristic vectors for the male and female speaker are analyzed, and recognition experiments for the proposed gender recognition by a neural network are performed using these characteristic vectors for the male and female. Input characteristic vectors of the proposed neural network are 10 LPC (Linear Predictive Coding) cepstrum coefficients, 12 LPC cepstrum coefficients, 12 FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) cepstrum coefficients and 1 RMS (Root Mean Square), and 12 LPC cepstrum coefficients and 8 FFT spectrum. The proposed neural network trained by 20-20-2 network are especially used in this experiment, using 12 LPC cepstrum coefficients and 8 FFT spectrum. From the experiment results, the average recognition rates obtained by the gender recognition algorithm is 99.8% for the male speaker and 96.5% for the female speaker.
Smartphone Based FND Recognition Method using sequential difference images and ART-II Clustering

In this paper, we propose a novel recognition method that extract source data from encoded signal that are displayed on FND mounted on home appliances. First of all, it find a candidate FND region from sequential difference images taken by smartphone and extract segment image using clustering RGB value. After that, it normalize segment images to correct a slant error and recognize each segments using a relative distance. Experiments show the robustness of the recognition algorithm on smartphone.
Robust Pupil Detection using Rank Order Filter and Pixel Difference

In this paper, we propose a robust pupil detection method using rank order filter and pixel value difference in facial image. We have detected the potential pupil candidates using rank order filter. Many false pupil candidates found at eyebrow are removed using the fact that the pixel difference is much at the boundary between pupil and sclera. The rest pupil candidates are grouped into pairs. Each pair is verified according to geometric constraints such as the angle and the distance between two candidates. A fitness function is obtained for each pair using the pixel values of two pupil regions, we select a pair with the smallest fitness value as a final pupil. The experiments have been performed for 400 images of the BioID face database. The results show that it achieves more than 90% accuracy, and especially the proposed method improves the detection rate and high accuracy for face with spectacle.
An Approach for Modeling of Sound Absorbing Material using Debye Polarization

It is introduced an approach to model for numerical analysis of a sound absorbing material that has different absorbing coefficient according to frequency. For modeling of a sound absorbing material, we tried to model by a traditional modeling method. But it had large differences on frequency domain, especially a capacitance component due to increasing of frequency. We approach to model a sound absorbing material by the Debye polarization technique with non-linear least square method. At first, we estimated parameters form a polyurethane with thickness 25 mm, then we could model a polyurethane with thickness 50 mm using same parameters. Therefor, we could find that the Debye polarization is an useful way to model sound absorbing materials.
A study on helper node selection mechanisms in cooperative communications

Cooperative communications play a important role in increasing frame transmission rate at wireless communication networks where frequency resource is strictly limited. In this paper, we did a research on how to select the helper nodes that are very import in cooperative communications. As a prelude study in this research field, we carried out performance comparison of three helper node selection schemes using computer simulation. The system throughput was used as the performance measure and the random way point mobility model, where every communicating nodes move around within the designated communication range, was used.

Though WiMedia supports the higher data rates than other WPAN technologies, a WiMedia device cannot reach other devices which are apart from it more than 10 meter; the limited transmission range of the WiMedia protocol. In this paper, we propose a multi-hop QoS routing protocol to enable WiMedia devices to transmit real-time data to devices that is located out of transmission range. The proposed routing protocol is a hybrid routing protocol, which is the mixed protocol of table-driven and on-demand routing algorithm. In the proposed protocol, a route for a device within 2-hop is established by using the table-driven routing algorithm and a route for the device beyond 2-hop is established by using the on-demand routing algorithm. We perform ns-2 simulation to investigate the performance of the proposed routing protocol with AODV and DSDV. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol's performance is better than AODV and DSDV in terms of the throughput and delay.

This paper proposes a design technique of a survivable ship backbone network, which describes a near optimal configuration scheme of physical and logical topologies of which the survivable ship backbone network consists. We first analyze and present an efficient architecture of a survivable ship backbone network consisting of redundant links and ship devices with dual communication interfaces. Then, we present an integer linear programming-based configuration scheme of a physical topology with regard to the proposed ship backbone network architecture. Finally, we present a metaheuristic-based configuration scheme of a logical topology, underlying the physical topology.

This paper presents the delta image composition methods using Depth-Image-Based Rendering (DIBR) for 3D stereoscopic broadcasting for the low bandwidth mobile DMB broadcasting system. With DIBR, a left and depth images are transmitted to a mobile device, which restores the right view, whose quality may be poor. This paper describes delta image composition methods for the restoration while minimizing the amount of the transmitted data.
A New Stereo Matching Algorithm based on Variable Windows using Frequency Information in DWT Domain

In this paper we propose a new stereo matching algorithm which is suitable for application to obtain depth information with high-speed in stereoscopic camera environment. For satisfying these condition we propose a new adaptive stereo matching technique using frequency information in discrete wavelet (DWT) domain and variable matching window. The size of the matching window is selected by analysis of the local property of the image in spatial domain and the feature and scaling factor of the matching window is selected by the frequency property in the frequency domain. For using frequency information we use local DWT and global DWT. We identified that the proposed technique has better peak noise to signal ratio (PSNR) than the fixed matching techniques with similar complexity.

Recently P2P is the most popular network service on Internet and is applied various areas such as streaming, file sharing and software distribution, but there are many security threats depending on vulnerabilities by P2P network environments. Conceptually P2P network is a overlay network based on Internet, and it has security concerns of itself as well as those of Internet environments. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerabilities and threats for domestic P2P services through various experiments and describe their risk analysis. We expect that this work contributes to new domestic P2P services in consideration of service qualities and security vulnerabilities.

In this paper, a BCD process based high-reliability 24-bit dual-port eFuse OTP Memory for PMICs is designed. We propose a comparison circuit at program-verify-read mode to test that the program datum is correct by using a dynamic pseudo NMOS logic circuit. The comparison result of the program datum with its read datum is outputted to PFb (pass fail bar) pin. Thus, the normal operation of the designed OTP memory can be verified easily by checking the PFb pin. Relation of Short Channel Effect and Scaling Theory for Double Gate MOSFET in Subthreshold Region

This paper has presented the influence of scaling theory on short channel effects of double gate(DG) MOSFET in subthreshold region. In the case of conventional MOSFET, to preserve constantly output characteristics,current and switching frequency have been analyzed based on scaling theory. To analyze the results of application of scaling theory for short channel effects of DGMOSFET, the changes of threshold voltage, drain induced barrier height and subthreshold swing have been observed according to scaling factor. The analytical potential distribution of Poisson equation already verified has been used. As a result, it has been observed that threshold voltage among short channel effects is grealty changed according to scaling factor. The best scaling theory for DGMOSFET has been explained as using modified scaling theory, applying weighting factor reflected the influence of two gates when scaling theory has been applied for channel length.

Performance of a video browser greatly depends on the performance of scene change detection for the efficient retrieval and storage of the video contents which are major data in a current contents management system. In this paper we propose a new scene change detection method using Mean Difference Histogram of each frame section which improves accuracy of scene change detection as well as reduces the frequency of miss detection and fault detection of gradual scene change which is one of critical problem of the conventional histogram-based techniques.
Virtual View-point Depth Image Synthesis System for CGH

In this paper, we propose Multi-view CGH Making System using method of generation of virtual view-point depth image. We acquire reliable depth image using TOF depth camera. We extract parameters of reference-view cameras. Once the position of camera of virtual view-point is defined, select optimal reference-view cameras considering position of it and distance between it and virtual view-point camera. Setting a reference-view camera whose position is reverse of primary reference-view camera as sub reference-view, we generate depth image of virtual view-point. And we compensate occlusion boundaries of virtual view-point depth image using depth image of sub reference-view. In this step, remaining hole boundaries are compensated with minimum values of neighborhood. And then, we generate final depth image of virtual view-point. Finally, using result of depth image from these steps, we generate CGH. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than conventional algorithms.
Skew Correction of Document Images using Edge

This paper proposes an algorithm detecting the skew of the degraded as well as the clear document images using edge and correcting it. The proposed algorithm detects edges in a character region selected by image complexity and generates projection histograms by projecting them to various directions. And then it detects the document skew by estimating the edge concentrations in the histograms and corrects the skewed document image. For the fast skew detection, the proposed algorithm uses downsampling and 3 step coarse-to-fine searching. In the skew detection of the clear and the degraded images, the maximum and the average detection errors in the proposed algorithm are about 50% of one in a conventional similar algorithm and the processing time is reduced to about 25%. In the non-uniform luminance images acquired by a mobile device, the conventional algorithm can't detect skews since it can't get valid binary images, while the proposed algorithm detect them with the average detection error of 0.1o or under.
Face classification and analysis based on geometrical feature of face

This paper proposes an algorithm to classify and analyze facial features such as eyebrow, eye, mouth and chin based on the geometric features of the face. As a preprocessing process to classify and analyze the facial features, the algorithm extracts the facial features such as eyebrow, eye, nose, mouth and chin. From the extracted facial features, it detects the shape and form information and the ratio of distance between the features and formulated them to evaluation functions to classify 12 eyebrows types, 3 eyes types, 9 mouth types and 4 chine types. Using these facial features, it analyzes a face. The face analysis algorithm contains the information about pixel distribution and gradient of each feature. In other words, the algorithm analyzes a face by comparing such information about the features.
A Frequency Characteristic Analysis of Digital Hologram in Fresnel Transform Domain

Since digital hologram includes an amount of data as can be seen at the process of digitization, it is necessary that the data representing digital hologram is reduced for storing, transmission, and processing. As the efforts that are to handle hologram with a type of digital information have been increased, various methods to compress digital hologram called by fringe pattern are groped. Suitable proposal is encoding of digital hologram. This paper analyzed the properties of digital hologram using tools of frequency transform, assuming that a generated digital hologram is a 2D image by introducing Fresnel Transform. The analysis results of digital hologram to be proposed in this paper are being expected to be used as the core techniques for an encoding of digital hologram.
High performance guest-host liquid crystal display mode using the charged particles

In this paper, we proposed the novel hybrid guest-host liquid crystal display using the negative charged black particles in order to improve the low contrast ratio. We designed patterned electrode in order to switch the charged particle to the opposite electrode and improved the electro-optical characteristics by optimize the mixture of guest materials. In Comparison with the Heilmeier Guest-Host mode, proposed hybrid guest-host structure showed 80% reduction of transmittance in dark state, and the performance was examined by comparing contrast ratio.

Due to development of visual media in various industrial sectors, the importance of image processing is increasing. Among the various image processing areas, edge detection is utilized widely for various fields such as object recognition, object segmentation, the medical and other industries. Edge includes the critical factors of images like size, direction and location. Then conventional methods such as Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and Laplacian are proposed to detect edge. However, edge detection property of these methods is declined when they are applied to the image which corrupted by AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise). Therefore, an algorithm using modified weighted filter is proposed in this paper and our method has excellent property on edge detection.
A Study on the Location Correction Algorithm considering effects of obstacles on location estimation system

The calibration method using the existing environmental characteristics is to correct taking advantage of the data that is followed Judgement on the environment. If a decision is not made on the environmental judgement, the use of traditional methods may increase rather than errors. In this paper, UWB-based localization system is utilized. We propose Location Correction Algorithm which is available on if you can not make a judgment about any circumstances for location estimation system. Reference Points was selected to observe the characteristics of the localization system. This paper searched the characteristics of the localization system in LOS environment and NLOS environment, and used data correcting the location information of the moving object by combining the two environmental characteristics. The Location Correction Algorithm is applied to the location measured from the location estimation system. This algorithm corrects for the location information of the object. As a result, the location accuracy improvement were observed.
Development of u-Lifecare Monitoring System Device

u-Life care device collect body bio formation, and classify and store them in exercise patterns. Afterwards, the devices send the data through bluetooth wireless communication to the smart phones which set Google Android operation system at regular intervals. The information is checked out through application. u-Life care device calculates calories spent a day after monitoring activity quantity with 3-axis acceleration sensor. The device judges the status of health through body data mining and consults tailored exercise treatment. When sending body data, the device sends them in smart phone through Blue Tooth wireless communication at once. So, as a strong point, the device doesn't need mobile gateway or home gateway used for sending to web server information sensed from exercise life care products.
A Routing Protocol with Fast-Recovery of Failures Using Backup Paths on MANETs

This paper proposes a new multipath-based routing protocol on MANETs with Fast-Recovery of failures. The proposed protocol establishes the primary and secondary paths between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of routes. The primary path is used to transmit messages, and the secondary path is used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to recover locally the route failure, the proposed protocol can reduce the number of packet loss and the amount of control packets for setting up new paths. The simulation result using QualNet simulator shows that the proposed protocol was about 10-20% higher than other protocols in terms of end-to-end message delivery ratio and the fault recovery time in case of link fault was about 3 times faster than the other protocols.
The Design and Implementation of a CSS based Location Aware System

Location-aware system is utilized in various fields such as Logistics, Home Network, Healthcare, Military and Transportation systems. In this paper, we designed and implemented a Location-aware system based on IEEE 802.15.4a CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) technology in variable environment. The CSS is possible to precision location awareness using RF signal. According to experimental result, the implemented system has recognition error less than 0.5m within 20m radius in space.
Optimal Measuring Point Selection Method of Indoor Temperature using CFD Analysis

This paper proposed the method to find out the optimal sensing point of temperature in test-bed with the sensor of temperature, such as real residence. We selected optimal locations by checking temperature change which was simulated by the means of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and the variation of air flow. We made 3-dimensional model of the testbed using DesignBuilder software, and ran the CFD. We selected the optimum temperature measurement location of 1.5 m height from the floor and low temperature variation. The experiments were conducted 30 temperature and humidity sensors in real place. After that, we confirmed the results of temperature change.

Since a migration method of the mobile agent is a factor that affects the overall performance of the entire distributed system, it is necessary to find efficient migration methods of the mobile agent within the sensor network and to collect and store data related to various components(server, sink and sensor node) of the sensor network, thereby providing consistent naming services. Accordingly, this paper presents design and implementation of MetaTable that is divided into MetaData where information on the sensor data server is stored and SubMetaData where various types of information on sink nodes and data on sensor nodes connected with the sink nodes is stored. Moreover, the paper also presented the implementation of forward migration of an active rule mobile agent applying the naming method based on RMI that used the meta_table and proposed the possibility of constructing efficient sensor network application environment. In this paper, for registration, release and retrieval methods suitable for new sensor network environment, we designed and implemented the naming agent by applying J2EE model based on RMI-IIOP(Internet Inter-ORB Protocol) technique.
