In communication systems, there are various types of microstrip antenna that can be used for many applications. This paper mainly focuses on the simple design of inset fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna to operate at frequency of 2.45 GHz for wireless communication. The study involves using HFSS simulator to design the antenna dimensions and to determine its performance. This antenna is based on a thickness of 1.6mm Teflon substrate with a dielectric constant of approximately 2.2, on one side of the substrate and another side has a ground plane. After simulation, the antenna performance characteristics such as return loss, VSWR, gain, radiation pattern are obtained.
A Study on Estimation of Beat Frequency in a Water Level Measurement Radar

A water level measurement radar estimates beat frequencies to extract the corresponding water level information for water resource management. Therefore, it is required to maintain the high degree of reliability and accuracy in beat frequency estimates. However, Beat spectra of water surface return echoes can have very widely varying shapes according to system frequency linearity, measurement environments and weather conditions. Therefore, serious problems may arise in maintaining the reliability and accuracy of the conventional level estimation method. Therefore, in this paper, high resolution spectrum estimates are analyzed for improvement of the conventional method. These methods show that the more accurate level measurement can be possible on the condition that SNR is higher than a certain required threshold. However, if SNR is too low, the conventional method shows that estimates are more reliable than the suggested method though absolute errors are too large.
Miniaturization of Inductive Resonator for Implementation of Wireless Power Transfer Technology Using Resonant Inductive Coupling

A novel inductive resonator for the implementation of wireless power transfer using resonant inductive coupling is presented. The proposed inductive resonator is much smaller than the helix shape resonator suggested by MIT research team but operates the same resonant frequency with comparable wireless power transfer efficiency. The proposed inductive resonator is a spiral shape (
), which is 97 % smaller than the helix shape (
). The wireless power transfer efficiency is less than 9 % when compared to the helix shape resonator. With the reduce size and comparable efficiency, this novel inductive resonator can be used in practical application of wireless power transfer.
Phase noise spectrum distribution design of remote controller using BPSK mode

The phase noise spectrum distribution for remote controller using the BPSK mode and low data rate of 50 kbps was designed and proposed in this paper. In case of applying the BPSK that transmission performance is superior to FSK method, the performance degradations due to phase noise are generated. To minimize the phase noise effect, it is important to dispatch the digital signal in channel environment with required phase noise characteristics. To provide the terminal design technique and the proper channel environment with required phase noise characteristics, the phase noise spectrum distribution was designed for required phase noise characteristics. By analyzing the phase noise effects for damping factor and noise bandwidth of the carrier recovery circuit, the phase noise spectrum design that consider the damping factor and noise bandwidth was performed. Based on the IESS-308 standards, also, the phase noise effects was analyzed. The phase noise spectrum design techniques and phase noise spectrum that is suitable to remote controller were proposed.
Formation Control of Mobile Robots using PID Controller with Neural Networks

In this paper, a PID controller with interpolated gains by use of neural networks is proposed for the formation control problem that following robots track a leading robot with constant distances and angles when there are changes in the mass of the following robot. The whole control system is composed of a kinematic controller and a dynamic controller considering the robot dynamics. The dynamic controller is the PID controller with varying gains, and the proper gains are obtained for some representative masses of the follower robot by the genetic algorithm. Neural networks is trained using the genetic algorithm with the gain data obtained in the previous step. The trained neural network determines optimal PID gains for a random mass of following robot. Simulation studies show that for arbitrary masses of the tracking robot, the PID controller with interpolated gains by the trained neural network has better tracking performance than that of the PID controller with fixed gains.
Impact of Sea Surface Scattering on Performance of QPSK

Time-variant sea surface causes a forward scattering and Doppler spreading in received signal on underwater acoustic communication system. This results in time-varying amplitude, frequency and phase variation of the received signal. In such a way the channel coherence bandwidth and fading feature also change with time. Consequently, the system performance is degraded and high-speed coherent digital communication is disrupted. In this paper, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) performance is examined in two different sea surface conditions. The impact of sea surface scattering on performance is analyzed on basis of the channel impulse response and temporal coherence using linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. The impulse response and the temporal coherence of the rough sea surface condition were more unstable and less than that of the calm sea surface condition, respectively. By relating these with time variant envelope, amplitude and phase of received signal, it was found that the bit error rate (BER) of QPSK are closely related to time variation of sea surface state.

In this thesis, we use one by one each of the analog switch and a high-speed DAC instead of the DAC that two or more are used in transmitting and receiving antennas multiple systems, maintaining the advantages of the existing method, reducing design costs, physical to provide a method that can reduce the data converters from MIMO system can improve the economic efficiency and the size reduction of a basis.
A Systematic Demapping Algorithm for Three-Dimensional Signal Transmission

In this paper, a systematic demapping algorithm for three-dimensional (3-D) lattice signal constellations is presented. The algorithm consists of decision of an octant, computation of a distance from the origin, and determination of the coordinates of a symbol. Since the algorithm can be extended systematically, it is applicable to the larger lattice constellations. To verify the algorithm, 3-D signal transmission systems with field programmable gate array (FPGA) and
are implemented. And they are exploited to carry out computer simulation. As a result, both hardware and software based systems produce almost the same symbol error rates (SERs) in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. In addition, the hardware based system implemented with an FPGA generates waveforms of 3-D signals and recovers the original binary sequences perfectly. Those results confirm that the algorithm and the implemented 3-D transmission system operate correctly.
Experimental Outdoor Visible Light Data Communication Systems with Optical Filter

An experimental outdoor optical wireless data communication system with an optical filter in the presence of sunlight or artificial light is presented. For the efficient blocking of light noise outdoors, we employ an optical filter made of microlouver film on the top of the photo diode. This filter is designed to block any light noise incident from an angle higher than
on the assumption that light noise does not face the photo diode horizontally. Outdoor experiments daytime with the optical filtering have been conducted. The experimental results demonstrate that the optical filter effectively blocks nearly all light noise incident from the specified angle or higher and more than 90% of the transmitted data packets are successfully received. The proposed outdoor visible light data communication can thus facilitate a practical free space outdoor optical wireless data transmission.
High Efficiency Power Amplifier Based on Digital Pre-Distortion

The PAPR of the input signal is increased due to OFDMA signal in a mobile communication system. High efficiency of a power amplifier, which accounts for power consumption, is a very important key technology. Digital Pre-Distortion techniques were used to improve the linearity of the power amplifier. The Asymmetric Doherty scheme was used to improve the efficiency of the power amplifier. In this paper, we propose a new structure of Asymmetric Doherty. Drive power amplifier part is separated as main path and peak path, and phase shifter is employed to improve power combine characteristics of the Doherty Amplifier. Also, envelope tracking technology for drive gate bais in drive peak amplifier is used to improve efficiency.
Study on the energy savings in the mobile communication repeater using a power factor correction circuit

In this paper, the energy saving on mobile communication repeater is studied. DB(Dual Band) small repeater, which is currently used in the field for indoor coverage, is adopted as a test unit. For reducing the power consumption, PFC (Power Factor Correction) is included on SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supply) of the DB small repeater. The test results show that approximately 38.9% of the power consumption is reduced comparing with the repeater without PFC. It means that approximately 230.43kWh per unit can be saved annually.
Low Complexity Frequency Offset Estimation Using Partial Correlation

In wireless communication systems, a frequency offset exist at the received signal due to the transmitter-receiver oscillator mismatch and Doppler effect in mobile environments. Those offsets rotate the received signal's phase and degrade the receiver performance. Hence, estimation and compensation of the frequency offset is crucial at the receiver. This paper proposes a new frequency offset estimation technique based on partial correlation. The proposed method requires less computational complexity than that of the conventional method. In addition, since the proposed one can estimate a wide range of frequency offset without estimation accuracy loss, the application of the method is desirable for the communication environments that have a large frequency offset. In order to verify the performance of our proposed scheme, a series of computer simulations have been carried out and compared against those of the conventional method.

In this paper we researched development methods and design of a Car Rear-view Camera System based on the Binary CDMA technology - new technology of wireless personal area network developed by Korea - that makes free installation without wired cables restriction and reduces installation costs and technology royalties.
LP-MAC Technique in association with Low Power operation in unmanned remote wireless network

Because of the limited power resource, we need a reliable low-power media access control technique suitable for unmaned remote sensor operation condition for the unmanned sensor processor to perform the task in the remote wireless network situation. Therefore CSMA/CA and X-MAC is generally considered to effectively transmit the signal in the low-power wireless network. In this paper, we propose the more efficient low-power LP-MAC Technique which consumes the minimum power and transmits the data faster in condition that the mobile nodes' joining to and leaving from the network which consists of the fixed nodes is fluid. The fixed nodes operate in an asynchronous mode to perform the network self-configuration and transmit data faster to the mobile node which is frequently join and leave the network. When the mobile node leaves the network, the network's operation mode will be synchronous mode to achieve the minimum power consumption, thus the minimum power operation becomes possible.
Automatic Detection of Vehicle Area Rectangle and Traffic Volume Measurement through Vehicle Sub-Shadow Accumulation

There are various high-performance algorithms in the area of the existing VDSs (vehicle detection systems). However, they requires a large amount of computational time-complexity and their systems generally are very expensive and consumes high-power. This paper proposes real-time traffic information detection algorithm that can be applied to low-cost, low-power, and open development platform such as Android. This algorithm uses a vehicle's sub-shadow to set ROI(region of interest) and to count vehicles using a location of the sub-shadow and the vehicle. The proposed algorithm is able to count the vehicles per each roads and each directions separately. The experiment result show that the detection rate for going-up vehicles is 94.1% and that for going-down vehicles is 97.1%. These results are close to or surpasses 95%, the detection rate of commercial loop detectors.
A Design and Implementation of Smartphone-Based AAC System

Smartphone have become the very important devices in our daily life and provide various roles on impairment and communications of developmental disabilities, acquired neurogenic disorders and autisms. Due to the growth of the technology, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) also meets needs and wants, including user customization, configurable layouts and registration of new core vocabulary for individual users. This paper describes the research conducted to design the smartphone-based AAC system. This AAC comprises of a form of communication types such as picture communication boards and sophisticated computer and mobile based devices that can speak in the phrases and sentences for their users. We deployed our AAC system on various sports situations using smartphone systems and also provided user customization method for AAC user's disability levels.

Relation of Conduction Path and Subthreshold Swing for Doping Profile of Asymmetric Double Gate MOSFET

This paper has analyzed the relation of conduction path and subthreshold swing for doping profile in channel of asymmetric double gate(DG) MOSFET. Since the channel size of asymmetric DGMOSFET is greatly small and number of impurity is few, the high doping channel is analyzed. The analytical potential distribution is derived from Possion's equation, and Gaussian distribution function is used as doping profile. The conduction path and subthreshold swing are derived from this analytical potential distribution, and those are investigated for variables of doping profile, projected range and standard projected deviation, according to the change of channel length and thickness. As a result, subthreshold swing is reduced when conduction path is approaching to top gate, and that is increased with a decrease of channel length and a increase of channel thickness due to short channel effects.
Hand shape recognition based on geometric feature using the convex-hull

In this paper, we propose a new hand shape recognition algorithm based on the geometric features using the convex-hull from the depth image acquired by Kinect system. Kinect is a camera providing a depth image and user's skeleton information and used for detecting hand region. In the proposed algorithm, hand region is detected in a depth image acquired by Kinect and convex-hull of the region is found. Boundary points caused by noise and unnecessary points for recognition are eliminated in the convex-hull that changes depending on hand shape. Hand shape is recognized by the sum of internal angle of a polygon that is matched with convex-hull reconstructed with selected boundary points. Through experiments, we confirm that proposed algorithm shows high recognition rate not only for five models but also those cases rotated.
Document Image Binarization Technique using MSER

Document image binarization is largely used as previous stage of document recognition. And the result of document recognition is much affected from the result of document image binarization. There were many studies to binarize document images. The results of previous studies for document image binarization is varied according to the state of document images. In this paper, we propose a technique for document image binarization using MSER that is applied to extract objects from an image. At first, raw MSER objects are extracted from a document image. Because the raw MSER objects cannot be used for document image binarization, the extracted raw MSER objects are modified. Then the final MSER objects are used for document image binarization with the contrast image that is extracted from the document image. Experimental results show that the proposed technique is useful for document image binarization.
Mobile monitoring system of the Dual LED marine lantern

Advances in IT technology and modernization of AtoN(Aids to Navigation) facility has increased the unmanned operation of AtoN. However, in AtoN facilities, accessibility is low and it is not able to perform maintenance on the bad weather at the time. In connection with this, in this paper, by applying the protocol of the enhanced dual LED marine lantern, we implemented the short-range monitoring system for a mobile terminal. System implemented in this paper can be carried out confirm the operation status, inspection or control of the dual LED marine lantern at a short distance. Also, it is possible to reduce maintenance costs and prevent accidents during inspection of AtoN. At the same time, it enables the operation test easily without disassembling the product, effective AtoN operation is possible. We tested the system that has been implemented using prototype of the LED marine lantern and confirmed state informations and controlled the behavior of the system in real time.
Mesh Routing Algorithm for TDMA Based Low-power and Ad-hoc Networks

Many routing protocols have been proposed for low-power and ad-hoc networks to deliver command or data among nodes and recently, various researches are carried out about networking scheme considering reliability and scalability. In low-power networking technology, the performance of network layer is closely connected with the operation of data link layer and mesh routing mechanisms based on TDMA MAC are considered for reliability and scalability. This paper proposes mesh routing algorithm utilizing the characteristics of TDMA MAC and topological addressing in TDMA based low-power and ad-hoc networks and implementation results are presented.
Understanding of Technologies and Research Trends of Wireless Body Area Networks

Recently, with the increasing of the interest in the integration of medical technology and information communication technology, researches on WBAN (Wireless Body Area Networks) that try to apply sensor network to the human body have been processed actively. The existing sensor network technology has the potential to be used in WBAN, but it has some limitations also. In particular, because the sensors are likely to communicate through each part of the body, it has a very different network environment from the sensor network that uses a free space. Therefore, researches on WBAN have a variety area of study that slightly different from the conventional sensor networks and take into account the characteristics of the body. In this study, we investigate the environmental characteristics of WBAN that are separated from the conventional sensor network, and the research trends of WBAN systematically by using the technique of SLR (Systematic Literature Review) from 2001 around when the concept of WBAN has been introduced. The investigation includes the classification of research and the researcher's features. And the survey results and the outlook for further study are summarized.
A Study on Edge Detection Algorithm in Salt & Pepper Noise Environments

Edge detection for such as image, lane and object recognition is important image processing method. And some traditional method for this, there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Laplacian, LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian) and so on. Characteristics of these methods are insufficient in the salt & pepper noise added image. In order to improve such a problem of conventional methods, in this paper, we proposed an algorithm applying the weighted mask for detecting an edge by setting the local mask centered on the adjacent of the central pixel if central pixel of the mask is non-noise, it is intactly set by element of estimated mask, after calculating estimated mask if it is noise.
Density Minimization for the Assignment of P-color Points

The problem studied in this paper is the channel routing problem to assign points with p colors on the upper row of the channel to points on the lower row in order to minimize its density. The case that the points on the upper row has an identical color or only two colors is studied in [1, 2]. This paper generalizes that to the points with p colors. First, we consider the problem to determine whether there is an assignment with density less than or equal to d, when an arbitrary d is given. We show that the problem is solved in O(p(n+m)log(n+m)) time. Using this result, we resolve the problem to fine an assignment with a minimum density.

Academia and industry, and government have attempted a number of changes and efforts for the employment of university graduated students and they have also promoted various projects and plans to suggest a better way. But the graduates employment rate is still left as serious social problem. To solve this problem, we seek to propose convergence education plan to enhance the employment rate of foreign language department that is relatively low unlike other departments. This proposal will make a new paradigm in education - Creativity, Difference, Locality, and Convergence. Based on these paradigms, it is expected to overcome the limitation of labor market.
Status and trends of standard patents in European Telecommunications Standards Institute

Patent information, which is generated under a specific, objective rule for a prolonged period of time, has the properties of technology, right, and management. Because of these characteristics of patents, patent analysis is used to identify R&D capacities and performances, and management strategies of a given nation or enterprise. In this paper, we analyze LTE essential patents which are key IPRs for implementing standardized LTE technology and major weapons in a global patent war. Also, we discuss the status of standard patent data, main applicants and standardization trends based on declared in ETSI standard patents. Especially, we analyzed 15,073 patents data which are possible to analyze patent information.
A Study on Image Restoration Filter in Mixed Noise Environments

Image signal related technology has been developing via various display equipment development and popularization of contents. However, errors occur in these image contents due to addition of excess noise from several cause during the process of general image signal data processing, transmission and storage. In terms of noise added to the image content, there are various types in accordance with cause of occurrence and form, and it is typically impulse noise, gaussian noise and complex noise which is composed of two types of overlapping noise. In this paper, complex algorithm is suggested in order to lessen the effect of mixed noise added to the image content by putting it through noise judgement process and categorizing each into impulse and gaussian noise and processing them separately. And in order to demonstrate the superiority of the suggested algorithm, PSIN(peak signal to noise ratio) was used as the standard of judgement.
Development of Mobile Healthcare System Using ECG Measurement

With the increased attention about health care and management of heart diseases, ubiquitous healthcare services and related devices have been actively developed recently. In this paper we developed a mobile healthcare system which consists of smartphone and patch-type ECG measuring device. This system is capable of monitoring, storing, and sending bio signals such as ECG, heart rate, heart rate variability as well as exercise management functions through heart rate zones. With monitoring bio signal continuously by mobile healthcare system and wearable device like us, people can prevent chronic disease and maintain good health. Here we report our implementation results on real platforms.
Efficacy of Gene Transfer and Expression of Novel Recombinant Baculovirus Vector

Novel baculovirus vector systems recombined with coding genes of polyhedron promoter, vesicular stomatitis virus G (VSVG), polyA, cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter, enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP), and protein transduction domain (PTD) were constructed. These recombinant baculovirus vector systems were applied into human foreskin fibroblast cells and compared the effects of gene transfer and gene expression of these recombinant baculovirus vector systems with control vector system. From this study, it showed that these novel recombinant baculovirus vector systems were superior efficacy to control vector system in view of gene transfer and gene expression.

In this study, we studied the effect of
gamma-radiation on the FBGs written in photo-sensitive and commercial Ge-doped single-mode optical fibers. The FBGs were exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 17.8 kGy at the dose rate of 300 Gy/min. According to the experimental data and analysis results, the lowest Bragg wavelength shift (18 pm) was obtained by a grating written in photosensitive fiber without
-loading. Also, we confirmed that the H2 loading process has considerably more influence on the Bragg wavelength shift change under gamma radiation than
contents in the fiber core.
Performance Analysis of the Optoelectronic Oscillator using the Direct Modulation Laser

The performance analysis of optoelectronic oscillator(OEO) based on a directly modulated semiconductor laser was theoretically achieved. First, the analysis was performed on the open response of the key components that constitute the OEO loop. Using the results, we simulated the open-loop characteristics of the OEO loop. By combining oscillation conditions of loop oscillator in addition to the open-loop magnitude and phase responses, theoretical performance analysis such as OEO's oscillation frequency, spurious tones and phase noise was successfully completed.
The effect comparison using saturation tone signals for optical wavelength division multiplexing communications

Three methods for gain saturation tone application were compared for optical wavelength division multiplexing transmission using more than 32 channels. The methods are to use high power distributed feedback laser diodes, to use amplified light sources, and lastly to use one saturation tone and several WDM light sources. 1532.3 nm, 1545.7 nm, and 1558.2 nm for the wavelength dependency of the saturation tone were also compared. As a result, the effect of amplified spontaneous emission noise caused by an amplifier was very slight. long wavelength for a saturation tone caused 1 dB gain reduction and its reason was analyzed.
The study of the stereo X-ray system for automated X-ray inspection system using 3D-reconstruction shape information

As most the scanning systems developed until now provide radiation scan plane images of the inspected objects, there has been a limitation in judging exactly the shape of the objects inside a logistics container exactly with only 2-D radiation image information. As a radiation image is just the density information of the scanned object, the direct application of general stereo image processing techniques is inefficient. So we propose that a new volume-based 3-D reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show the proposed new volume based reconstruction technique can provide more efficient visualization for X-ray inspection. For validation of the proposed shape reconstruction algorithm using volume, 15 samples were scanned and reconstructed to restore the shape using an X-ray stereo inspection system. Reconstruction results of the objects show a high degree of accuracy compared to the width (2.56%), height (6.15%) and depth (7.12%) of the measured value for a real object respectively. In addition, using a K-Mean clustering algorithm a detection efficiency of 97% is achieved. The results of the reconstructed shape information using the volume based shape reconstruction algorithm provide the depth information of the inspected object with stereo X-ray inspection. Depth information used as an identifier for an automated search is possible and additional studies will proceed to retrieve an X-ray inspection system that can greatly improve the efficiency of an inspection.
Investigation on the component separation of magnetic signal generated from a ferro-magnetic vessel

This paper investigated the separation of magnetic signal from a ferro-magnetic object. The magnetic signals were ILM(induced longitudinal magnetization) and IVM(induced vertical magnetization), which were induced by earth magnetic field and PLM(permanent longitudinal magnetization) and PVM(permanent vertical magnetization), which were due to a permanent magnetization of the object, respectively. Magnetic signal separation was based on the fact that magnetization vector could be analyzed according to longitudinal and vertical directions. Also the influence of non-uniform magnetic field from a rectangular coil on the separation was examined. A military vessel with a size close to rectangular coil has more errors on the magnetic signal separation.
