Major Issues in Internet Interconnection and Policy Directions in Korea

This paper discusses current internet interconnection issues according to radical changes of internet traffic pattern. In this context, the recovery of network investment cost for network provider becomes hot issue. For recovery issues of investment cost, there are many disputes among stake holders. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate this issues in the context of internet interconnection. Also, it is important to develop the current regulation about internet interconnection under traffic changing environments. This paper selects four issues to deal with and analyzes the present situations and problems about these issues, and provides alternatives for internet interconnection corresponding to these four issues.
Structural Modification of Crossed Planar Monopole Antenna for ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz Dual Band Characteristics

This study presents the structure design of antenna to have the dual band characteristics in a desired frequency band through the structural modification of an antenna structure. For the experiment, a wideband crossed planar monopole antenna was used. The target frequency band was set to ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz. To give the properties, an additional antenna element was added to the crossed planar monopole antenna, which is a main body of the antenna. And then structural adjustment parameter was set to change the length(shape) of the antenna. Various simulations were conducted to find the dual band characteristics in the desired frequency band. The simulations brought forth the antenna bandwidth above the normal values for ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz. The structural adjustment parameter introduced in this study for structural modification of an antenna can be useful in developing an antenna featured with dual band(multiband) characteristics.
Design of CPW-fed Slot Antenna for Harmonic Suppression

In this paper, a design method for a CPW-fed slot antenna for harmonic suppression is studied. The structure of the proposed slot antenna is a rectangular slot antenna appended with stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) at both ends of the slot symmetrically. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the length and width of the SIRs on the input reflection coefficient. The optimized harmonic-suppressed slot antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 42 mm by 30 mm. The slot length of the proposed harmonic-suppressed slot antenna is reduced to 33.3% compared to that of a conventional rectangular slot antenna owing to the appended SIRs. Experiment results show that the antenna has a desired impedance characteristic with a frequency band of 2.39-2.49 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and a measured gain of 2.5 dBi at 2.45 GHz.
A Formation Control Scheme for Mobile Robots Using a Fuzzy Compensated PID Controller

In this paper, a fuzzy compensated PID control system is proposed for formation control of mobile robots. The control system consists of a kinematic controller based on the leader-follower approach and a dynamic controller to handle dynamics effects of mobile robots. To maintain the desired formation of mobile robots, the dynamic controller is equipped with a PID controller; however, the PID controller has poor performance in nonlinear and changing environments. In order to improve these problem, we applied the additional fuzzy compensator. Finally, the proposed control system has been evaluated through computer simulation to demonstrate the improved results.
A Meta-learning Approach for Building Multi-classifier Systems in a GA-based Inductive Learning Environment

The paper proposes a meta-learning approach for building multi-classifier systems in a GA-based inductive learning environment. In our meta-learning approach, a classifier consists of a general classifier and a meta-classifier. We obtain a meta-classifier from classification results of its general classifier by applying a learning algorithm to them. The role of the meta-classifier is to evaluate the classification result of its general classifier and decide whether to participate into a final decision-making process or not. The classification system draws a decision by combining classification results that are evaluated as correct ones by meta-classifiers. We present empirical results that evaluate the effect of our meta-learning approach on the performance of multi-classifier systems.

The common way to obtain a stereoscopic image of a subject at a distance is to place two cameras on the parallel axis rather than crossing axis. To find the IAD and maximum focal length, left and right images are obtained by varying the IAD of cameras and the focal length of the camera lens and the depth budget for the obtained images is analyzed through post production. Then, the database for IAD and focal length of the camera lens with the depth range that does not cause visual fatigue and visual discomfort are developed. These data are used to design fuzzy control and deduce the IAD and focal length of the camera lens to shoot a subject at a distance, and the function of the fuzzy control is confirmed through the actual shooting within the range of deduced IAD and focal length of the camera lens.
Performance analysis of BTB-TDMA considering asymmetry of propagation delays in UANets

A Block-Time-Bounded Time Division Multiple Access (BTB-TDMA) medium access control protocol, which estimates the propagation delay of nodes according to their location and moving velocity information, has been proposed for underwater acoustic networks. BTB-TDMA provides nodes with their transmission schedules by a time block that is a time unit, newly designed for BTB-TDMA. In this paper, we investigate how the receiver collision, that is induced by the asymmetry between node's uplink and downlink propagation delay due to its mobility, affects the performance of BTB-TDMA. To do this, we analytically obtain the collision rate, the channel access delay, and the channel utilization by considering the asymmetry of propagation delay. Then, simulations are extensively performed with respect to the length of a time block by varying the number of nodes, the network range, and the node's velocity. Thus, the simulation results can suggest performance criteria to determine the optimal length of a time block which minimizes the collision rate and concurrently maximizes the channel access delay and the channel utilization.
Target Speech Detection Using Gaussian Mixture Model of Frequency Bandwise Power Ratio for GSC-Based Beamforming

Noise reduction is necessary to compensate for the degradation of recognition performance by various types of noises. Among many noise reduction techniques using microphone array, generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) has been widely applied to reduce nonstationary noises. The performance of GSC is directly affected by its adaptation mode controller (AMC). That is, accurate target speech detection is essential to guarantee the sufficient noise reduction in pure noise intervals and the less distortion in target speech intervals. Thus, this paper proposes an improved AMC design technique in which the power ratio of the output of fixed beamforming to that of blocking matrix is calculated frequency bandwise and probabilistically modeled by mixture Gaussians for each class. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional AMCs in receiver operating curves (ROC) and output SNRs.
Performance Analysis of M-ary UWB System using MHP Pulses in the Presence of Timing Jitter

In this paper, we propose and analyze a M-ary transmission scheme in time hopping ultra-wide band(UWB) system using mutually orthogonal modified Hermite polynomial(MHP) pulses. The proposed M-ary transmission scheme employs the orthogonal property between different ordered pulses and N data bits make the M-ary signals by linear combination of M MHP pluses. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed system has better performance and higher data rate than conventional M-ary UWB system. We derive the general form of correlation function for MHP pulses and analyze bit error rate(BER) performance over additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) with the presence of timing jitter. We show that the proposed system has the improved BER performance and robustness to timing jitter and low power spectrum density compared with conventional M-ary UWB system.

Recently, multi-user massive MIMO (MU-Massive MIMO) network has attracted a lot of attention as a technology to accommodate explosively increasing mobile data traffic. A Tabu Search Algorithm for Router Node Placement in Wireless Mesh Networks

This paper proposes a Tabu search algorithm to maximize the connectivity between the router nodes and the client nodes in wireless mesh networks. As the number of the router nodes and the client nodes in the networks increases, the amount of calculation for finding the solution would be too much increased. To obtain the optimal solution within a reasonable computation time for a high-density network, we propose a Tabu search algorithm to obtain the optimal solution for maximizing the connectivity. In order to make a search more efficient, we propose some efficient neighborhood generating operations of the Tabu search algorithm. We evaluate those performances through some experiments in terms of the maximum number of the connectivity and the execution time of the proposed algorithm. The comparison results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other existing algorithms.

Heterogeneous cellular networks support various wireless environments for mobile service. Recently, data services as well as voice services are exponentially increased in cellular networks and the technical transition of LTE-A and IEEE 802.16m so that more base stations are requested to provide suitable service. Base stations consume most of energy in cellular networks, and the energy saving is needed for the base station. In this paper, we propose a saving power scheme by the dynamic energy management. In this paper we consider the simulation evaluations of handover for the low powered base station.

Recently, due to an explosive growth of the internet traffic, the limitations of a current framework for a mobility management have been focused. The current centralized mobility management is prone to several problems and limitations: suboptimal routing, low scalability, signaling overhead, and a single point of failure. To overcome these problems and limitations, IETF is working about the distributed mobility management scheme that the centralized mobility functions of HA(Home Agents) are distributed to networks edges such as access routers. These distributions of mobility functions overcome the limitations of the centralized mobility managements and go with the trend of flat networks e.g. more simple network architecture. This paper analyzes the distributed mobility management based on Proxy Mobile IPv6 and demonstrates the performance superiority.
On-line Signature Recognition Using Statistical Feature Based Artificial Neural Network

In this paper, we propose an on-line signature recognition algorithm using fingertip point in the air from the depth image acquired by Kinect. We use ten statistical features for each X, Y, Z axis to react to changes in Shifting and Scaling of the signature trajectories in three-dimensional space. Artificial Neural Network is a machine learning algorithm used as a tool to solve the complex classification problem in pattern recognition. We implement the proposed algorithm to actual on-line signature recognition system. In experiment, we verify the proposed method is successful to classify 4 different on-line signatures.

A Large-Scale 3D Visualization System for Port Container Terminal Simulation

In this paper, we propose a 3D visualization system that expresses the simulation results of port container operation monitoring and planning in terms of the movements of the surrounding environment including static and dynamic objects. It also enables us to objectively evaluate the operation model by way of animating the actual port operations. With XML-based design of object states, the port simulator visualization system (PSVS) that we propose has been implemented so as to maximize the interoperability with the existing port operation simulation (CATOS), and express the realtime animation of large-scale objects. The design method of PSVS system is explained, and its validity is experimentally examined.
Study on the Methods of Enhancing the Quality of DIBR-based Multiview Intermediate Images using Depth Expansion and Mesh Construction

In this research, we conducted an experiment on evaluating the extending depth information method and surface reconstruction method and the interaction of these two methods in order to enhance the final intermediate view images, which are acquired using DIBR (Depth-Image-Based Rendering) method. We evaluated the experimental control groups using the Microsoft's "Ballet" and "Break Dancer" data sets with three different hole-filling algorithms. The result revealed that the quality was improved the most by applying both extending depth information and surface reconstruction method as compared to the previous point clouds only. In addition, it found that the quality of the intermediate images was improved vastly by only applying extending depth information when using no hole-filling algorithm.
Performance Analysis of Block Write Operation of File Systems on Linux Environment

Linux environment that is commonly used at embedded systems supports various file systems as Ext2, FAT, NTFS, etc. The file system that is equiped on the embedded system is mostly implemented on mini hard disk or flash memory. The types of the file system of the system make an effect on the performance of a application programs. The factors of file system performance on a same media are block read, block write and block free time. On these factors, block read and block free time are not so different according to the type of file systems. This paper evaluates the performance benchmark of file systems supported by linux about block allocation and write performance. The results obtained from various experiments shows the characteristics of each file system.

This paper proposes the BDAS(Big Data analysis Scheme) design that extracts the real time shared information from SNS and Web, analyzes the extracted data rapidly for customers, and makes an on-line marketing strategy efficiently. First, the BDAS collects the data shared in SNS and Web. Second, it provides the result of visualization by analyzing the semantics of the collected data as positive or negative. Therefore, because the BDAS ensures an average 90% accuracy in judging the semantics about the shared SNA and Web data, it can judge customer's propensity accurately and be used for on-line marketing strategy efficiently.
Active-RC Channel Selection Filter with 40MHz Bandwidth and Improved Linearity

This paper proposes 5-MS/s 10-bit digital-to-analog converter(DAC) with the improved linearity. The proposed DAC consists of a 10-bit R-2R-based DAC, an output buffer using a differential voltage amplifier with rail-to-rail input range, and a band-gap reference circuit for the bias voltage. The linearity of the 10-bit R-2R DAC is improved as the resistor of 2R is implemented by including the turn-on resistance of an inverter for a switch. The output voltage range of the DAC is determined to be
from an rail-to-rail output voltage range of the R-2R DAC using a differential voltage amplifier in the output buffer. The proposed DAC is implemented using a 1-poly 8-metal 130nm CMOS process with 1.2-V supply. The measured dynamic performance of the implemented DAC are the ENOB of 9.4 bit, SNDR of 58 dB, and SFDR of 63 dBc. The measured DNL and INL are less than +/-0.35 LSB. Analysis of Subthreshold Swing Mechanism by Device Parameter of Asymmetric Double Gate MOSFET

This paper has analyzed how conduction path and electron concentration for the device parameters such as oxide thickness, channel doping, and top and bottom gate voltage influence on subthreshold swing of asymmetric double gate MOSFET. Compared with symmetric and asymmetric double gate MOSFET, asymmetric double gate MOSFET has the advantage that the factors to be able to control the short channel effects increase since top and bottom gate oxide thickness and voltages can be set differently. Therefore the conduction path and electron concentration for top and bottom gate oxide thickness and voltages are investigated, and it is found the optimum conditions that the degradation of subthreshold swing, severe short channel effects, can reduce. To obtain the analytical subthreshold swing, the analytical potential distribution is derived from Possion's equation. As a result, conduction path and electron concentration are greatly changed for device parameters, and subthreshold swing is influenced by conduction path and electron concentration of top and bottom.
Analysis of Tunneling Current for Bottom Gate Voltage of Sub-10 nm Asymmetric Double Gate MOSFET

This paper analyzed the deviation of tunneling current for bottom gate voltage of sub-10 nm asymmetric double gate MOSFET. The asymmetric double gate MOSFET among multi gate MOSFET developed to reduce the short channel effects has the advantage to increase the facts to be able to control the channel current, compared with symmetric double gate MOSFET. The increase of off current is, however, inescapable if aymmetric double gate MOSFET has the channel length of sub-10 nm. The influence of tunneling current was investigated in this study as the portion of tunneling current for off current was calculated. The tunneling current was obtained by the WKB(Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin) approximation and analytical potential distribution derived from Poisson equation. As a results, the tunneling current was greatly influenced by bottom gate voltage in sub-10 nm asymmetric double gate MOSFET. Especially it showed the great deviation for channel length, top and bottom gate oxide thickness, and channel thickness.
Low Area Hardware Design of Efficient SAO for HEVC Encoder

This paper proposes a hardware architecture for an efficient SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset) with low area for HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder. SAO is a newly adopted technique in HEVC as part of the in-loop filter. SAO reduces mean sample distortion by adding offsets to reconstructed samples. The existing SAO requires a great deal of computational and processing time for UHD(Ultra High Definition) video due to sample by sample processing. To reduce SAO processing time, the proposed SAO hardware architecture processes four samples simultaneously, and is implemented with a 2-step pipelined architecture. In addition, to reduce hardware area, it has a single architecture for both luma and chroma components and also uses optimized and common operators. The proposed SAO hardware architecture is designed using Verilog HDL(Hardware Description Language), and has a total of 190k gates in TSMC
CMOS standard cell library. At 200MHz, it can support 4K UHD video encoding at 60fps in real time, but operates at a maximum of 250MHz.
Hardware Design of High Performance HEVC Deblocking Filter for UHD Videos

This paper proposes a hardware architecture for high performance Deblocking filter(DBF) in High Efficiency Video Coding for UHD(Ultra High Definition) videos. This proposed hardware architecture which has less processing time has a 4-stage pipelined architecture with two filters and parallel boundary strength module. Also, the proposed filter can be used in low-voltage design by using clock gating architecture in 4-stage pipeline. The segmented memory architecture solves the hazard issue that arises when single port SRAM is accessed. The proposed order of filtering shortens the delay time that arises when storing data into the single port SRAM at the pre-processing stage. The DBF hardware proposed in this paper was designed with Verilog HDL, and was implemented with 22k logic gates as a result of synthesis using TSMC 0.18um CMOS standard cell library. Furthermore, the dynamic frequency can process UHD 8k(
) samples@60fps using a frequency of 150MHz with an 8K resolution and maximum dynamic frequency is 285MHz. Result from analysis shows that the proposed DBF hardware architecture operation cycle for one process coding unit has improved by 32% over the previous one.
Design of Communication Board for Communication Network of Nuclear Safety Class Control Equipment

This paper suggest the safety class communication board in order to design the safety network of the nuclear safety class controller. The reactor protection system use the digitized networks because from analog system to digital system. The communication board shall be provided to pass the required performance and test of the safety class in the digital network used in the nuclear safety class. Communication protocol is composed of physical layer(PHY), data link layer(MAC: Medium Access Control), the application layer in the OSI 7 layer only. The data link layer data package for the cyber security has changed. CRC32 were used for data quality and the using one way communication, not requests and not responses for receiving data, does not affect the nuclear safety system. It has been designed in accordance with requirements, design, verification and procedure for the approving the nuclear safety class. For hardware verification such as electromagnetic test, aging test, inspection, burn-in test, seismic test and environmental test in was performed. FPGA firmware to verify compliance with the life-cycle of IEEE 1074 was performed by the component testing and integration testing.
Pattern Analysis of Personalized ECG Signal by Q, R, S Peak Variability

Several algorithms have been developed to classify arrhythmia which rely on specific ECG(Electrocardiogram) database. Nevertheless personalized difference of ECG signal exist, performance degradation occurs because of carrying out diagnosis by general classification rule. Most methods require accurate detection of P-QRS-T point, higher computational cost and larger processing time. But it is difficult to detect the P and T wave signal because of person's individual difference. Therefore it is necessary to classify the pattern by analyzing personalized ECG signal and extracting minimal feature. Thus, QRS pattern Analysis of personalized ECG Signal by Q, R, S peak variability is presented in this paper. For this purpose, we detected R wave through the preprocessing method and extract eight feature by amplitude and phase variability. Also, we classified nine pattern in realtime through peak and morphology variability. PVC, PAC, Normal, LBBB, RBBB, Paced beat arrhythmia is evaluated by using 43 record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate the average of 93.72% in QRS pattern detection classification.
Rectification of Document Image on Smartphone Using MSER-b Binarization

The smartphone with camera can easily generate an image instead of a scanner. However the document image through a smartphone can have distortions related rotation or perspective. In this paper, we proposed a method to generate the document image in that distortions are reduced from the captured document image through a smartphone. For this, the original document image through a smartphone is preprocessed using the MSER-b technique to reduce the light effect. Then, the text area contour is extracted using the characteristics of the document image. Lastly, rotation or perspective distortions are reduced using the extracted text area contour. For experiments, the proposed method is compared two other products. Through experiments, we show that the distortions within the captured document image through smartphone can be effectively reduced.

This study analyze Online class's current condition in Smart era. And suggest better operation model based on Internet Architecture. This study focuses the condition of e-learning operation model in University online class. Especially, 'Time Check Idea' that using for attendance on e-learning class has some side effects. So this study would applied 'Qualitative Check Idea Concept' on e-learning class. Question Based System, QBS is example model. QBS is leading a Learner's participation in e-class by Making Quiz. These quizs are shared with other students and refer to studing contents. Practically operating Qualitative Concept model QBS on university e-class, we can seek for the effectiveness of Qualitative e-learning model QBS.

This paper looks into the measurement of modeling ability in different fields like science, mathematics, operations research and management science and emulates the ideas to system analysis and design where modeling is a very useful skill. An assessment tool was designed to measure the graphical modeling ability in systems analysis and design. It was administered to 92 students and submitted to 10 MIS experts and tested statistically for its reliability and validity.
A Study on Median Filter using Directional Mask in Salt & Pepper Noise Environments

In these digital times, the image signal processing is being used in various areas like vehicle recognition, security, and robotics. Generally, the image deterioration occurs by salt & pepper noise in the procedures of image transmission, storage, and processing. Methods to remove this noise are SMF, CWMF, and SWMF and these methods have few unsatisfactory noise reduction characteristics in salt & pepper noise environment. Therefore, in order to mitigate salt & pepper noise which is added in the image, this study suggested an algorithm which subdivides the masks in the image into four areas and processes using non-noise pixel numbers in each area. Additionally, in order to prove the excellence of the proposed algorithm, relevant performances were compared with existing methods using PSNR.
A Study on Modified Spatial Weighted Filter in Mixed Noise Environments

In recent image processing, active researches have been made along with rapid development in digital times. However, it is know that the image degradation occurs due to various external factors in the processes of image data processing, transmission and storage, and the main reason of image degradation is due to the noise. Typical methods to remove the noise are CWMF(center weighted median filter), A-TMF(alpha-trimmed mean filter) and AWMF(adaptive weighted median filter) and these methods have a little bit lacking noise reduction characteristics in mixed noise environments. Therefore, in order to remove the mixed noise, image restoration filter processing algorithm was suggested in this paper which processes by applying the median value of the mask and space weighted value after noise judgment. And for the objective judgment, it was compared with existing methods and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) was used as a judgment standard.
A Development of 3D Penetration Analysis Program for Survivability Analysis of Combat System : Focused on Tank Model

Survivability is avoidance and tolerance ability of combat systems for accomplishing mission in battle field. Therefore, the combat system has to protect or minimize any damage from threats. For this reason, many modeling and simulation based studies which analyze vulnerability of the combat system by threats, are in progress to improve survivability of the combat system. In this paper, we developed a 3D penetration analysis program for survivability analysis of combat system. To do this, we applied the penetration analysis equation to threat and protection performance of tank. Also we implemented simple tank models based on 3D CAD, and tested the developed program using the implemented tank models. As a result, we verified the developed program that is possible to analyze penetration by threat and protection performance of tank and to visualize its result, based on scenarios.
