Delay characteristics and Throughput analysis on Network offered Multi-media service
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 289~295
Traffic analysis during past years used the Poisson distribution or Markov model, assuming an exponential distribution of packet queue arrival. Recent studies, however, have shown aperiodic and burst characteristics of network traffics. Such characteristics of data traffic enable the scalability of network, QoS, optimized design, when we analyze new traffic model having a self-similar characteristic. This paper analyzes the self-similar characteristics of a small-scale mixed traffic in a network simulation, the real WAN delay time, TCP packet size, and the total network usage.
The Evaluation for Reliability Characteristics of MOS Devices with Different Gate Materials by Plasma Etching Process
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 297~305
It is observed that the initial properties and degradation characteristics on plasma of n/p-MOSFET with polycide and poly-Si as different gate materials under F-N stress and hot electron stress are affected by metal AR(Antenna Ratio) during plasma process. Compared to that of MOS devices with poly-Si gate material, reliability properties on plasma of MOS devices with polycide gate material are improved. This can be explained by that fluorine of tungsten polycide process diffuses through poly-Si into gate oxide and results in additional oxide thickness. The fact that MOS devices with polycide gate material can reduce damages of plasma process shows possibility that polycide gate material can be used as gate material for next generation MOS devices.
Predictive Traffic Control Scheme of ABR Service
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 307~312
Asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) is flexible to support the various multimedia communication services such as data, voice, and image by applying asynchronous time-sharing and statistical multiplexing techniques to the existing data communication. ATM service is categorized to CBR, VBR, UBR, and ABR according to characteristics of the traffic and a required service qualities. Among them, ABR service guarantees a minimal bandwidth and can transmit cells at a maximum transmission rate within the available bandwidth. To minimize the cell losses in transmission and switching, a feedback information in ATM network is used to control the traffic. In this paper, predictive control algorithms are proposed for the feedback information. When the feedback information takes a long propagation delay to the backward nodes, ATM switch can experience a congestion situation from the queue length increases, and a high queue length fluctuations in time. The control algorithms proposed in this paper provides predictive control model using slop changes of the queue length function and previous data of the queue lengths. Simulation shows the effectiveness result of the proposed control algorithms.
An enhanced VS/VD switching algorithm to support fairly ABR service in ATM
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 313~322
The ATM Forum has been focusing on flow control mechanism for ABR traffic management. The goal of this activity is to efficiently manage the leftover network bandwidth and fairly distribute it among contending ABR VC so that communication links can be optimally utilized. ABR traffic is difficult to predict traffic shape because it has bursts and variable behavior. Also it's sensitive to lose but not to delay. This behavior makes difficult to UPC function in network and cause of congestion in switch, thus performance is degraded. To resolve this problem, various flow control mechanism has been worked in the ATM Forum. Especially, the rate-based flow control mechanism for ABR traffic has been standardized in the ATM Forum, Sept. 1994. Thus, various flow control mechanism has been working which likes EFCI, ER, VS/VD. VS/VD control is superior than existed ER control because it isolate different networks from each other. In this paper, we propose an expanded VS/VD flow control algorithm and compare with existed VS/VD flow control algorithm. Simulation result shows that this algorithm improve a problem in aspect of delay and fairness.
A Compensation Mechanism of Cell Delay Variation for the Satellite TDMA/ATM Network
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 323~336
In order to achieve the deployment of B-ISDN services in a short time, B-ISDN is being combined with terrestrial ATM network and satellite network which covers a widespread service range. This paper analyzes and investigates several previously existent CDV compensation methods in order to compensate CDV arising from interfacing satellite TDMA and ATM. Specifically to supplement the problems of timestamp and cell number counting methods, new Partial Timestamp mechanism for CDV compensation is proposed. The CDV compensating efficiency of the proposed mechanism is analyzed and evaluated by simulations. It goes to show that Partial timestamps mechanism has many advantages in the aspect of the CDV compensation.

The measurement of the ground complex dielectric constant by using the dipole antennas
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 357~363
The received field strength is varied with the electrical characteristics of the reflection medium in the case of the line-of-sight. To obtain the electrical characteristics of medium, the relationship between reflection coefficients and complex dielectric constants of the medium is derived, and a equation of circle which is related to reflection coefficient and ratio of transmitted power to received one is represented. A algorithm is proposed, which is to predict the electrical characteristics of the medium by using the received field strength.
A Study on the Antenna Characteristic Variation according to Ground Plane Size of Print Type Antenna
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 365~370
In this dissertation, in order to analyze the ground plane size which will affect the antenna characteristic, the appropriate antenna was designed and produced in compliance with the needs that the existing antenna should be improved, and then the optimum ground plane size was calculated. It was proved it affected the radiation characteristic greatly but didn't affect the impedance characteristic nearly when ground plane size of the existing folded slot antenna was enlarged with using the copper e cut in some size. Though it require the complicate procedure by the strict design in order to calculate exactly, if it is made of the antenna of the appropriate size that the effect of ground plane can be taken no account, it can be made easily.
A Study on Pathological Pattern Detection using Neural Network on X-Ray Chest Image
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 371~378
In this study, we proposed pathological pattern detection system for X-ray chest image using artificial neural network. In a physical examination, radiologists have checked on the chest image projected the view box by a magnifying glass and found out what the disease is. Here, the detection of X-ray fluoroscopy is tedious and time-consuming for human doing. Lowering of efficiency for chest diagnosis is caused by lots mistakes of radiologist because of detecting the micro pathology from the film of small size. So, we proposed the method for disease detection using artificial neural network and digital image processing on a X-ray chest image. This method composes the function of image sampling, median filter, image equalizer used neural network and pattern recognition used neural network. We confirm this method has improved the problem of a conventional method.
A Study on Extracting Characteristics of High Impedance Fault-Current Based on Chaotic Analysis.
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 379~388
Previous studies on high impedance faults assumed that the erratic behavior of fault current would be random. In this paper, we prove that the nature of the high impedance faults is indeed a deterministic chaos, not a random motion. Algorithms for estimating Lyapunov spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent are applied to various fault currents in order to evaluate the orbital instability peculiar to deterministic chaos dynamically, and fractal dimensions of fault currents, which represent geometrical self-similarity are calculated. In addition, qualitative analysis such as phase planes, Poincare maps obtained from fault currents indicate that the irregular behavior is described by strange attractor.
Adaptive Watermarking Using Wavelet Transform & Spread Spectrum Method
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 389~395
Digital Watermarking is a research area which aims at hiding secret information in digital multimedia content such as images, audio, and video. In this paper, we propose a new watermarking method with visually recognizable symbols into the digital images using wavelet transform, spread spectrum method and multilevel threshold value in considering the wavelet coefficients. The information of watermark can be extracted by subtracting wavelet coefficients with the original image and the watermarked image. The results of this experiment show that the proposed algorithm was superior to other similar watermarking algorithms. We showed Watermarking algorithm in JPEG lossy compression, resizing, LSB(Least Significant Bit) masking, and filtering.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 397~406
Genetic algorithm is used as a means of search, optimization md machine learning, its structure is simple but it is applied to various areas. And it is about an active and effective controller which can flexibly prepare for changeable circumstances. For this study, research about an action base system evolving by itself is also being considered. There is to have a problem that depended entirely on heuristic knowledge of expert forming membership function and control rule for fuzzy controller design. In this paper, for forming the fuzzy control to perform self-organization, we tuned the membership function to the most optimal using a genetic algorithm(GA) and improved the control efficiency by the self-correction and generation of control rules.
Performance Improvement of Tree Structured Subband Filtering
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 407~416
Adaptive digital filtering and noise cancelling technique using a tree structured filter bank are presented to reduce a undesirable aliasing due to the decimation of filtered output and improve the performance in terms of mean-square error and the convergence speed using a aliasing canceller. A signal is split into two subband by analysis filter bank and decimated by decimator and reconstructed by interpolation technique and synthesis filter bank. A variable step-size LMS algorithm is used to improve the convergence speed in case of existing the measurement noise in desired input of filter. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed subband structure in this paper is superior to conventional subband filter structure in terms of mean-square error and convergence speed.
Design and performance of a CE-CPSK modulated digital delay locked tracking loop
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 417~426
In this paper, CE-CPSK(Constant Envelope Continuous Phase Shift Keying) modulated DS/SS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) transceiver with 908 MHz carrier frequency and 1.5 MHz PN clock rate is proposed. To overcome the effect of nun-linear power amplifier, CE-CPSK modulation method which has the constant envelope and continuous phase characteristics is proposed. To analyze the DS/SS receiver performance with respect to code tracking loop, multipath fading channel is characterized as a two-ray Rayleigh fading channel. To compensate the demerit of analog delay locked loop, digital delay locked loop is employed for code tracking loop. Simulation and experimental examination has been carried out in AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) and Rayleigh fading channel environment in order to prove validity of the proposed method.

A Mechanism for Protecting a Mobile Agent's Communication
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 435~442
In the world of mobile agents, security aspects are extensively being discussed, with strong emphasis on how agents can be protected against malicious hosts and vice versa. This paper discusses methods for protecting an agent's route information from being misused by sites on route interested in gaining insight into the profile of the agent's owner or in obstructing the owner's original goal. Our methods provide visited sites with just a minimum of route information, but on the other hand allow sites to detect modifying attacks of preceding sites. Though, under noncolluding attacks, all methods presented provide a similar level of protection, the performance and the points of time differ when an attack can be detected.

An Implementation of an ENC Representation System which meets S-52 presentation specification and S-57 transfer standards
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 469~478
On the advent of digital era, ECDIS has emerged as a new navigation aid that should result in significant benefits to safe navigation. More than simply a graphics display, ECDIS is a new concept navigation system capable of providing integrated information of geographical and texual data. As an official vector data for ECDIS, ENC consists of spatial and feature data to describe objects in form of points, lines and areas. IHO published International Standards for ENC, such as S-52(Specification for Chart Content and Display Aspects of ECDIS) and S-57(IHO Transfer Standard for Digital Hydrographic Data). This paper deals with the implementation of an ENC representation system which meets S-52 presentation specification and S-57 transfer standards by analyzing S-57 data structures and converting them to an appropriate internal data structures and representing them onto screen adopting S-52 presentation specification.
A Study on the Sterilizer Using the Microwave
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 479~485
In this study, the chamber size was designed and manufactured so as to make a resonance with microwaves in sterilizing moisture-contained food by making good use of microwaves. When the green-pea jelly which was made and sterilized for experimental usage with no addition of an antiseptic was left in the room temperature for 1 minute, 2 minutes or 3 minutes respectively, resulted in delaying more greatly the procession of change in quality of food for almost 7 to 15 days than in unsterilized food. As a result of experiment conducted above, it is considered to produce good results of decreasing the resource waste and environmental pollution, by lengthening the period of preservation and circulation of food.
Slip Compensation for Rotor Time Constant Variation of Induction Motor Drives
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 487~492
This paper presents a novel method of slip-compensation for rotor time constant variation in indirect field orientation control of induction motor drives. In field oriented control due to variation of rotor time constant, decoupling between the flux and torque components of stator current is lost and hence, the performance of operation of the machine deteriorates. To solve the problem, the q-axis is aligned to reference frame without phase difference by comparing the real flux component with the reference flux component. Then to compensate the slip, PI controller is used. The proposed method keeps a constant slip by compensating the gain of direct slip frequency when the rotor resistance of induction motor varies. To prove the validations of the proposed algorithm in the paper, computer simulations and experiments are executed.
A evaluation of internal radial direction's distribution of MHD generator using shock tube
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 493~503
There are two types of generators in the MHD generation : linear type Faraday and disk type hall generator. In this paper, it is experimented disk type hall generator. Disk type generator is driven by shock tube that compresses working gas isentropically in a very short time. As a working gas, helium gas seeded with cesium is used. it is difficult to confirm the whole condition thorough oかy experiment because the things happened in MHD generator is very complex. Furthermore we can't how exactly what happen at the inside of generator's channel because the time of generation is very short and working gas flows out very high speed. Expecially it is almost impossible to measure the things occurred in the boundary layer using MHD generation experimental equipment driven shock uk. With above reasons, to know certainly how the several values happened inside disk MHD generator charge, some graphs were drawn linearly through calculation using measured experimental data. For the more, other calculated results which can't be obtained by only experiment are considered in this paper. And these calculated results are compared to experiment data how exactly done the calculation.
Design of a Time-Multiplexing CNN Chip
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 4, issue 2, 2000, Pages 505~516
Cellular Neural Networks(CNN) is a nonlinear information-processing system that has a locally connected characteristic and is widely used in the real-time high speed image processing. In this paper, a practical system approach of time-multiplexing CNN implementations suitable for processing large and complex images using small CNN arrays is presented and
CNN hardware is designed for the processing of a large image. While previous implementations are mostly suitable for black and white applications because of the thresholded outputs, our approach is especially suitable for applications in gray image processing due to the analog nature of the state node. CNN chip is designed using a 0.65
2P2M(double poly, double metal) N-Well CMOS process technology. It contains about 15,400 devices on an area of about
md. The designed
CNN is tested for the edge detection of a large image input and it's performance is verified.
