Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 405~417
In this paper, since we currently using surveillance system of analog type bring about waste of resource and efficiency deterioration problems, we describe new solution that design and implementation to the digital surveillance system of new type applying compression techniques and encoding techniques of image data using MPEG-2 international standard. Also, we proposed fast motion estimation algorithm requires much less than the convectional digital surveillance camera system. In this paper a fast motion estimation algorithm is proposed the MPEG-2 video encoding. This algorithm is based on a hybrid use of the block matching technique and gradient technique. Also, we describe a method of moving object extraction directly using MPEG-2 video data. Since proposed method is very simple and requires much less computational power than the conventional object detection methods. In this paper we don't use specific H/W and this system is possible only software encoding, decoding and transmission real-time for image data.
Performance Analysis of Pilot Symbol Assisted Trellis-Coded 8PSK with Timing Recovery Circuits on the Frequency-Nonselective Rayleigh Fading Channel
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 419~425
In land mobile communications, multipath fading is one of the key factors which affect the system performance. Some extensive studies have been carried out to improve the degraded performance under this fading channels. The PSAM channel compensation method using channel fading estimation is widely used and TCM is a combined coding and modulation technique that has been shown to provide significant coding gain without increasing the transmission bandwidth. In this paper, we analyze the performance of PSA-TC-8PSK which combines PSAM and TCM over frequency nonselective fading channels. To estimate channel fading, Wiener filter which minimizes error variance is used as compensation method and we analyze the affects on the system performance of the number of filter taps, period of the pilot symbol frame, and the Doppler frequency. In addition, we consider the symbol timing recovery circuit which can be implemented in the full-digital method and analyze the effects of symbol timing error on the system performance.
Web-based 3D Face Modeling System
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 427~433
This paper proposes a web-based 3 dimensional face modeling system that makes a realistic facial model efficiently without any 30 scanner or camera that uses in the traditional methods. Without expensive image-input equipments, we can easily create 3B models only using front and side images. The system is available to make 3D facial models as we connect to the facial modeling server on the WWW which is independent from specific platforms and softwares. This system will be implemented using Java 3D API, which includes the functions and conveniences of developed graphic libraries. It is a Client/server architecture which consists of user connection module and 3D facial model creating module. Clients connect with the facial modeling server, input two facial photographic images, detects the feature points, and then create a 3D facial model modifying generic facial model with the points according to the procedures using only the web browser.

Nam, Ock-woo ; Kim, Jae-hyung ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 435~441
In this paper, we proposed adaptive MMSE receiver, which use channel equalizer to eliminate the interference due to multi-path fading and adaptive filter to eliminate the multiple access interference. The unique features of proposed receiver schemes are as following. We use pilot channel to estimate the channel coefficients exactly and guard symbols which are inserted periodically to estimate channel coefficients exactly without interference from user signals. The length of channel equalizer also can be reduced with the help of guard symbols. Especially utilizing adaptive code-matched filter(AMMSE) when the user population is high and SNR is not low we accepts excellent performance improvement.

This paper is simulation research to improve speech recognition rates under the noisy environment. We examines recognition ratio based on frequency-weighted HMM together with spectral subtraction. As results, frequency-weighted HMM with scaling coefficients is trained as a minimum error classification criterion, and is presents a higher recognition rates in noisy condition than a conventional method. Furthermore, spectral subtraction method gives 11 to 28% improvements for this frequency-weighted HMM in low SNR, and gives recognition rates of 81.7% at 6dB SNR of noisy speech.

Design of Downlink Beamformer for High-quality.High-speed Wireless Multimedia Services
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 459~464
We propose a transmit beamforming algerian for array antenna in FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) environments. The proposed method estimates the directions and spectra of the users, and constructs the spatial covariance matrix of the interferences at the downlink frequency. The weights are computed by that covariance matrix and desired user's direction vector Simulations are performed under Rayleigh fading environments. The proposed method don't need the data feedback, has the enhanced performance in BER (Bit Error Rate).
A Study on QoS for Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm in Wireless ATM
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 465~474
In the network with small cell radius, a mobile terminal which has large mobility should perform frequent handover. This requires that handover mechanism must be done fastly. The currently existing method for handover uses an algorithm in which the bandwidth corresponding to the adjacent cells is supposed to be allocated. However, this method leads to the problem of requiring bandwidth allocation for many-unknown cells, due to the lack of information toward moving direction in mobile terminal. In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm for solving those problem above, based on both path rerouting handover and soft handover mechanism with wireless ATM. As for the QoS, it has been shown that proposed algorithm shows better performance than that with static bandwidth allocation algorithm.
A Study on Optimization of Networking Mechanism of Distributed List
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 475~482
In this paper, I describe the implementation of the distributed lists based on socket and on RMI(Remote Method Invocation). First, I describe and implement an interface of distributed list based on socket using object stream in a distributed environment, when encapsulating the message in the distributed list. Second, the major purpose to implement a distributed list in RMI is to compare advantages and disadvantages with other networking mechanisms by implementing complicated applications. The major advantage in using RMI is to implement simply the programs without using application-level protocol. In terms of program efficiency, the applications using HMI can degrade the performance due to many TCP/IP connections generated every update. TCP/IP connection requires much less cost than RMI. Even though RMI has the mechanism processing many method calls using a sing]e network connection, RMI is less efficient than the direct use of socket. However, RMI makes it possible to communicate beyond firewall using HTTP proxying mechanism. Consequently, I present a modeling of networking mechanism in finding out optimization solution by comparing and analyzing the two systems.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 493~501
As a web technology is generalized, the IT environment has been changed into an e-business system. An e business system requires web interface technology that can be integrated in a database and be applied to a server-side programming. Traditionally, a CGI technology has been used a web interface. But the CGI technology has many difficulties in connection and delay in processing. So, it is necessary to introduce a new methods as ISAPI Extension and JDBC. These methods provide advantages as reduce of memory and fast process. This paper proposes a comparing study on the JDBC-ODBC Bridge and the ISAPI Extension method. It will suggest more efficient technology with these methods for a web interface development.
A Development of Monitoring System for Automatic Environmental Control
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 503~516
At present, environmental control system of greenhouses related with industrial automation in the korea is composed of on/off-type control machine using a timer in facilities requiring intensive labor. This system, however, makes it difficult for us to find out any status of environmental control system in greenhouses when we are situated in a remote area or at midnight. In this paper we improved a system to monitor status for manual and automatic control by means of PC by replacing an existing on/off-type controller with a display panel, It also attempts to implement DB for information on corps and to provide a user with the efficiency of getting information for plants.
A Design of Radix-2 SRT Floating-Point Divider Unit using ]Redundant Binary Number System
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 517~524
This paper describes a design of radix-2 SRT divider unit, which supports IEEE-754 floating-point standard, using redundant binary number system (RBNS). With the RBNS, the partial quotient decision logic can operate about 20-% faster, as well as can be implemented with a simple hardware when compared to the conventional methods based on two's complement arithmetic. By using a new redundant binary adder proposed in this paper, the mantissa divider is efficiently implemented, thus resulting in about 20% smaller area than other works. The divider unit supports double precision format, five exceptions and four rounding modes. It was verified with Verilog HDL and Verilog-XL.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 543~551
This paper is concerned with optimization of a motor torque to drive Parking Sign system. It needs to minimize powers for stand alone operation and requires the optimized parameters in order to move the plates in the minimum torque. The operation can be represented as a complicated non-linear equation which is difficult to solve by general optimization techniques. In this paper, the dynamic equations of the system are derived, also the suitable Genetic Algorithm is designed to solve the equations. Computer simulation shows the availability of this method.
The Hardware Implementation of Chua's Oscillator
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 553~561
Chua's oscillator is a simple electronic circuit which exhibits a variety of bifurcation phenomena and attractors, It consist of two capacitors, an inductor, two linear resistors, and a nonlinear resistor. When the circuit exhibits chaotic signals, the nonlinear resistor of Chua's oscillator may have six different voltage - current characteristics. In this paper, the design methodology for practical implementation of the nonlinear resistors which have all these characteristics is described. In addition, the effectivness of result is shown by not only the computer simulation but also the experimental test.
Development of a frequency-to-voltage transducer in a motor
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 563~572
A conventional motor in a crane has a taco generator to feed back the number of turns to a main controller. The taco generator is contacted to a motor shaft through the coupling. Errors in a crane have often occurred because the coupling has worn out while the motor is turning. In this paper, we design the device of the frequency to voltage transducer in a motor. The device is composed of a rotary encoder, a speed measurement using PIC16F84 controller, a display, and a direction-decision block. The rotation of a motor is recognized by the rotary encoder and microcontroller counts the number of turns of a motor. The emergency signal is generated if the frequency goes over or below the speed limit of a motor. And the device can acknowledge the rotation direction of the motor after 6。 rotation. The simulation results and the test for a implemented device have shown that the transducer of a frequency to a voltage can replace a taco generator in a crane.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 573~579
The technology for characteristic analysis of device for high integration is changing rapidly. Therefore to understand characteristics of high -integrated device by computer simulation and fabricate the device having such characteristics became one of very important subjects. As devices become smaller from submicron to nanometer, we have investigated MOSFET built on an epitaxial layer(EPI) of a heavily-doped ground plane by TCAD(Technology Computer Aided Design) to develop optimum device structure. We analyzed and compared the EPI device characteristics such as impact ionization, electric field and I-V curve with those of lightly doped drain(LDD) MOSFET. Also, we presented that TCAD simulator is suitable for device simulation and the scaling theory is suitable at nano structure device.

A Study on Document Retrieval of Web Using Relevance Feedback
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 597~604
In conventional boolean retrieval systems, document ranking is not supported and similarity coefficients cannot be computed between queries and documents. The MMM, Paice and P-norm models have been proposed in the past to support the ranking facility for boolean retrieval systems. They have common properties of interpreting boolean operators softly. In this paper we propose a new soft evaluation method for Information retrieval using query splitting relevance feedback model. We also show through performance comparison that query splitting relevance feedback(QSRF) is more efficient and effective than MMM, Paice and P-norm.
Quality estimate function of the program module
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 5, issue 3, 2001, Pages 605~611
In order to offer the service information of high-quality, we should develop the software of high-Quality. We need the united estimate method, because existing developed quality measurements individually measure attributes using the different viewpoint. Therefor, this paper propose the model that able to include many method of measurements. Our model selects the ratio scales and calculates the relative significance of them by using rough logic. Then, in order to measure the quality of module, it integrates the significance of scales and the measured value of them by using fuzzy integral. Finally, we analyze the correlation between the existing scales with our measurement and validate our model through statistical technique.
