Investigation of meteor burst communication paths on a close range
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 171~176
Meteor Burst Communication can provide effective and economical means of communication where long distance VHF NLOS(None Line of sight) data transmission is needed; often ranges more than 1200 km. It has been, however, so far considered unsuitable for distance as short as 700km application because of phenomenal decrease in burst durations, which leads to decreation of total duty rate of the system. This paper introduce experimental characteristics of very shot distance MB(Meteor Hurst) path. Also the occurring rate and average length measured on 50km paths between kyongsan-city to Andong-city shows that Meter Burst communication is useful communication system in mountain and valley communication.
Performance Evaluation of Speech Recognition Using the Reconstructed Feature Parameter with Voiced-Unvoiced Measure
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 177~182
In this study, we research the robust speech recognition for the syllables and phoneme units with the feature parameter including the voiced-unvoiced measures for the confusable words. In order to make it possible, we propose the measure representing the voiced-unvoiced degree by using the HPS(Harmonic Product Spectrum) information, used on pitch detection. We proposed this measures with the sharpnes, peak count and height measure of HPS. We reconstructed the feature parameter including this measures, then we performs the speech recognition experiments and compared with the typical feature parameters under the CVC type confusable syllables DB.

Analysis and design of a FSK Demodulator with Digital Phase Locked Loop
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 194~200
In this paper, FSK(Frequency Shift Keying) demodulator which is widely used for FH-SS system is designed and the experimental results are analyzed. The performance of the ADPLL(All-digital Phase-Locked-Loop), which is the main part of the demodulator circuit, is analyzed by the computer program. Using Maxplus-II tool provided by altera. co., ltd, each part of the ADPLL is designed and all of them is integrated into EPM7064SLC44-10 chip. And the simulation results are compared with the characteristics of the implemented circuits for analysis. There is about 2
difference in time constant of the PLL. This difference is not critical in the demodulator. And the experimental results show that the transmitted data is well demodulated when the phase difference between the FSK modulated signal and the reference signal is about 180 degree.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 201~207
A multi-hop ad-hoc network can be formed out of Bluetooth capable devices through the use of scatternets. Many topologies can be deployed for scatternet; the most commonly proposed topology in the literature are tree structure and ring structure. We analyze the performance between tree formation algorithm and ring formation algorithm. We then present quantative result that compare the expected traffic performance between Blutooth ring scatternet and Bluetooth tree scatternet. The simulation results showes that Ring structure of scatterent have good performance than Tree structure over mobile environments.

Implementation and Verification of TCP Congestion Control Algorithm using SDL
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 214~227
Developing an application, it is difficult to catch an exact requirement with the conventional text-based method. It has also problems in verification and analysis at each developing stage. Therefore, if an adjustment is required with an error and change of requirement, a bad effect happen in the whole system. In this case, it also affect adversely on the developing cost and period. Meanwhile, if an analysis or verification is performed, the possibility of an error frequency reduces. Thus, not only is it easier to correct the error but also add an new requirement. This thesis embody a TCP/IP congestion control algorithm with SDL which provides automatically graphic interface, verification and analysis to each developing stage. Using SDL gave a clear representation embodiment in each developing stage and easiness of adjustment due to changing requirements or correcting errors. In addition, the stages of protocol have been certified in a simulation by verification of MSC and the results showed a possibility of developing a better TCP/IP protocol.
Implementation of QoS-awared MAC Protocol for Home Networks
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 228~238
We believe that existing wire solutions such as HomePNA2.0 using phone lines and HomePlug using power line and wireless solution such as HomeRF are the most promising solutions, because of its cost-effectiveness. However, MAC protocols of these solutions provide only Class of Service(CoS) using priority mechanism like HomePNA and HomePlug or consider only voice among real-time traffics like HomeRF. For these reasons, we perceive the needs of the new MAC protocol which is no new wire solution and provides guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for not only voice but also video and audio. In light of this, we present the design and software implementation of a new MAC protocol for Home Networks. Our evaluation results of software implementation verify that proposed MAC protocol can provide low delay, low loss, and low jitter to real-time traffic by reserving bandwidth.
Design and Implementation of a Forwarding Server for Using the Logical URL
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 239~249
A lot many WWW sites are come into the world more and more as Web is considered as the unified Internet information tool. The location of each site or resource is usually specified by a physical URL, which is often too long to remember and tends to raise difficulty to show the aim of the site intuitively by seeing it. Since any person or organization can get his/her own domain name easily, it is more desirable to use a logical URL with the domain name which can be chosen more compact to remember and meaningful to represent the ultimate intention of the site. This paper presents an implementation of a URL forwarding server which forwards a URL to another, so that a WWW site can use a logical URL instead of a physical one. The server consists of a domain mapper which uses the redirection transaction of the HTTP protocol, and a name server based on the HIND. The paper shows how the interaction between the domain mapper and the name sever can make forwarding possible and describes its implementation in detail. Experimental results shows that the overhead incurred by URL forwarding is negligible compared to the typical delay of current Internet traffic condition.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 250~254
A film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) device for 2 GHz radio frequency (RF) bandpass filter application is presented. This FBAR device consists of an aluminum nitride (AlN) film sandwiched between top(Al) and bottom(Au) electrodes and an acoustic multilayer reflector of a silicon dioxide/tungsten (SiO2/W). The A/N film deposited using a RF sputtering was observed to have small columnar grains with a strongly preferred orientation towards c axis. In addition to a high quality factor (4300), a large return loss of 37.19 dB was obtained.
ZnO Film Deposition on Aluminum Bottom Electrode for FBAR Filter Applications and Effects of Deposition Temperature on ZnO Crystal Growth
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 255~262
In this paper, an investigation on the ZnO film deposition using radio-frequency magnetic sputtering techniques on aluminum bottom electrode for film bulk acoustic wave resonator (FBAR) filter applications and the temperature effects on the ZnO film growth is presented. The investigation on how much impact the actual process temperature may have on the crystal growth is more meaningful if it is considered that the piezoelectricity property of ZnO films plays a dominant role in determining the resonance characteristics of FBAR devices and the piezoelectricity is determined by the degree of the c-axis preferred orientation of the deposited ZnO films. In this experiment, it was found that the growth of ZnO crystals has a strong dependence on the deposition temperature ranged from room temperature to
regardless of the RF powers applied and there exist 3 temperature regions divided by 2 critical temperatures according to the degree of the c-axis preferred orientation. Overall, below
, ZnO deposition results in columnar grains with a highly preferred c-axis orientation. With this ZnO film, a multilayered FBAR structure could be realized successfully.
Analysis of Double Gate MOSFET characteristics for High speed operation
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 263~268
In this paper, we have investigated double gate (DG) MOSFET structure, which has main gate (NG) and two side gates (SG). We know that optimum side gate voltage for each side gate length is about 3V in the main gate 50nm. Also, we know that optimum side gate length for each for main gate length is about 70nm. DG MOSFET shows a small threshold voltage roll-off. From the I-V characteristics, we obtained IDsat=550
at VMG=VDS=1.5V and VSG=3.0V for DG MOSFET with the main gate length of 50nm and the side gate length of 70nm. The subthreshold slope is 86.2㎷/decade, transconductance is 114
and DIBL (Drain Induced Barrier Lowering) is 43.37㎷. Then, we have investigated the advantage of this structure for the application to multi-input NAND gate logic. Then, we have obtained very high cut-off frequency of 41.4GHz in the DG MOSFET
A Study on SONOS Non-volatile Semiconductor Memory Devices for a Low Voltage Flash Memory
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 269~275
Polysilicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon(SONOS) transistors were fabricated by using 0.35
complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS) process technology to realize a low voltage programmable flash memory. The thickness of the tunnel oxide, the nitride, and the blocking oxide were 2.4nm, 4.0nm, and 2.5nm, respectively, and the cell area of the SONOS memory was 1.32
. The SONOS device revealed a maximum memory window of 1.76V with a switching time of 50ms at 10V programming, as a result of the scaling effect of the nitride. In spite of scaling of nitride thickness, memory window of 0.5V was maintained at the end of 10 years, and the endurance level was at least 105 program/erase cycles. Over-erase, which was shown seriously in floating gate device, was not shown in SONOS device.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 276~283
In this paper, a 2-stage power amplifier(PA) for IMT-2000 handset has been designed and fabricated using SiGe HBT, which has excellent frequency characteristics and linearity, to reduce size and weight instead of existing linearization techniques. DC I-V characteristics and S-parameter of SiGe HBT were simulated by Agilent circuit simulator(ADS), with large signal Gummel-Poon nonlinear circuit model. Then the output and interstage matching circuits were designed to satisfy the high power condition and the high gain condition, respectively. The experimental results showed output power of 27.1dBm and ACLR of 20dB, PAE of 34%, and linear power gain of 18.9dB over frequency ranges from 1920MHz to 1980MHz.
The Initial Value Setting-Up Method for Extending the Range of the Optimal Step Parameter under LMS Algorithm
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 284~292
In this paper, we carried out the numerical examination of the initial value setting-up method to extend the range of optimal step parameter in a adaptive system which is controlled by LMS algorithm. For initial value setting-up methods, the general method which select the initial value randomly and the other method which applies the approximate value obtained from the direct method to initial value, were used. And then, we compared to the ranges of step parameter setting, the convergence speeds of mean-square-error, and the stabilities during the convergence process when the initial values were applied to the optimal directivity synthesis problem. According to the numerical simulation results, the initial value setting-up method by means of the direct method provides wider range for the step parameter, more efficient capability for convergence and stability, and more error correction ability than the general method.

XML Schema Model of Great Staff Music Score using the Integration Method
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 302~313
Currently, DTD(Document Type Definition) Definition of Music score has been widely studied according to applications, and the methods of automatic transformation from defined DTD to XML Schema is in progress. In addition, studies of structure of DTD definition are focused on the expression of music information by individual format. In this paper, expression method of the music information by continuous string values is suggested using the fact that measure is basically a component of score, and XML Schema is also modelled. In addition, mechanism extracting the music information from XML instance which was expressed using the proposed method is presented. As a result, XML Schema taking the continuous string values could be defined, instance obtained by the proposed method results in increasing efficiency by simplicity of XPATH and reduction of search step compared to previous method. In addition, it is possible for human to make direct expression, and it is known that the instance size decreases.
Performance Analysis for Digital Watermarking on the Wavelet Transform Domain
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 314~321
Recently, many studies about digital watermarking have been doing, and their purpose is to protect copyright of multimedia data. In this paper, the performances of digital watermarkings, in order to hide information of copyright into digital images, are analyzed. The watermarks embedded in subbands on wavelet transform domain are transformed by the processing such as image compression, and the degree of the transformation in each subband depend on its statistical characteristics. That says, we must consider the characteristics of subbands for better watermarking.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2003, Pages 344~352
An effective algorithm for implementation of which detects moving object from image sequences. predicts the direction of it. and drives the camera in real time is proposed. In static camera, for robust motion detection from a dynamic background scene, the proposed algorithm performs statistical modeling of moving objects and background, and trains the statistical modeling of moving objects and background, and trains the statistical feature of background with the initial parts of sequence which have no moving objects. Active camera moving objects are segmented by following procedure, an improved order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is used. The proposed algorithm shows robust object tracking results in the environment of static or active camera. It can be used for the unmanned surveillance system, traffic monitoring system, and autonomous vehicle.
