Performance Analysis of DS/CDMA with Phase Error Using Hybrid SC/MRC Diversity
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 355~362
In this paper, we analyzed the DS/CDMA System with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity, as a method to achieve a good performance by reducing the complexity of system, when PLL gain value was revised a phase gulf among branches to make perfect coherent receive signal. The channel is a multipath Nakagami-m fading channel, we consider user(K), processor gain(N), number of paths(Lp) in DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity. We found that PLL gain values exist to make perfect coherent receive signal. We verified that DS/CDMA system with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity can improve performance when the proper PLL gain values is used in the system. As a result, we verified that the upper limit of PLL gain value is 5dB to make perfect coherent receive signal in the DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity.
A study on the Web Form System for Separating Design from Business Logic on Web Project
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 363~369
The Web-based project is seriously not efficient area at software engineering. In order to develop a Web-based system, UI(User Interface) designers usually first design display layout and then business logic developers bring to complete the coding of the display layout source. In the case of maintenance, it goes through the same process. This kinds of Web-based software development method were proposed by the various methods same as the tag library of JSP. But there are many problems to apply them and they are low productive comparing to the C/S based software development method. WFS(Web Form System), which is suggested on this thesis, separates UI design from business logic on a Web project and offers the better environment to develop Web-based software. Eventually WFS will improve the productivity to develop Web-based software.

Design of a High Performance Two-Step SOVA Decoder
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 384~389
A new two-step soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) decoder architecture is presented. A significant reduction in the decoding latency can be achieved through the use of the dual-port RAM in the survivor memory structure of the trace-back unit. The system complexity can be lowered due to the determination of the absolute value of the path metric differences inside the add-compare-select (ACS) unit. The proposed SOVA architecture was verified successfully by the functional simulation of Verilog HDL modeling and the FPGA prototyping. The SOVA decoder achieves a data rate very close to that of the conventional Viterbi Algorithm (VA) decoder and the resource consumption of the realized SOVA decoder is only one and a half times larger than that of the conventional VA decoder.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 390~394
It is very important to simulate various mobile communication channels for the reliable system design and performance tests. Therefore, a new method is proposed in this paper to improve the conventional one for the purpose of the efficient channel simulation having various characteristics. A newly proposed method can simulate any narrow band channel very efficiently from the given Doppler power spectrum model. Also, it has many simulation advantages considering the variety of wireless channel conditions since parameters related with channel characteristics, such as a signal power, signal to noise ratio, direct signal power ratio, etc., can be easily changed according to various propagation environments to be tested.
Reverse Link Interference Bounds in CDMA Cellular Systems
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 395~402
The capacity of a CDMA cellular system is determined by the amount of interference, therefore the exact estimation of interference is important to evaluate the system performance. In this paper, we propose an approximated equation which calculates reverse link other cell interference in the CDMA cellular systems. The equation using Riemann-Zeta function has a property that it is useful in case of any radio propagation loss exponents. And we compare calculation results with simulation results in other to verify it's usefulness. The upper bound of system capacity calculated with the proposed approximated equation gives almost alike result with the simulation. The proposed interference bound is useful to calculate system capacity and to evaluate some algorithm in a hierarchical cellular system which must be considered various propagation exponents.
A Study on The Design of Satellite Transponder for SS/TDMA systems
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 403~410
Design issues of multi-beam satellite transponders have been actively studied. Multi-beam satellite transponders can be used in the first SS/TDMA system for satellite interactive multi-media services in Korea. To be used in SS/TDMA systems, a satellite transponder must have either base-band OBP(On-board Processor) or MSM(Microwave Switching Matrix) on-board switch those are capable to provide inter-connections to many earth stations in different beam coverages or different frequencies, i.e., Ka and Ku band. The use of MSM is considered proper due to a substantial developing cost and the required high techniques in base-band OBP. In this paper, we present a designed scheme of transponder being optimally suitable to the targeted SS/TDMA satellite systems, also analysis the performance.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 437~447
We propose the methods to design the finite impulse response (FIR) and the infinite impulse response (IIR) lattice filters using Schur algorithm through the spectral factorization of the covariance matrix by circulant matrix factorization (CMF). Circulant matrix factorization is also very powerful tool used fur spectral factorization of the covariance polynomial in matrix domain to obtain the minimum phase polynomial without the polynomial root finding problem. Schur algorithm is the method for a fast Cholesky factorization of Toeplitz matrix, which easily determines the lattice filter parameters. Examples for the case of the FIR Inter and for the case of the IIR filter are included, and performance of our method check by comparing of our method and another methods (polynomial root finding and cepstral deconvolution).

Implementation of the mobility for Location Searching in Broadband Intelligence Wireless ATM Networks
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 461~467
This paper proposes the method of mobility implementation for location searching in the intelligence wireless ATM networks that expand and apply standard broadband signaling capabilities, and analyze the performance based on the numerical algorithm. The existing B-ISDN UNI protocol stack demands the location search mechanism to determine the location of mobile terminal in the wireless ATM networks because it use single protocol through the fixed PTP interface or PTM interface that don't support terminal mobility. The proposed method make possible the dynamic mobility at a part of wireless access by minimizing the signaling load without a falling-off in system performance by using the intelligence network technology according to the expansion of ATM and B-ISDN signaling integration based on the fixed networks. We implemented the performance analysis by MFC modeling based on numerical algorithm, and realized the efficiency of expenses by carrying out the comparative signaling performance evaluation to measure the relative gains of location search service in the intelligence wireless ATM system. The obtained results have the flexibility to operate in the public B-ISDN network environment without a change of existing B-ISDN/ATM NNI signaling reference to support the wireless ATM access system, and can easily expand to correspond to terminal mobility and various multimedia services in the next broadband PCS.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 468~473
In this paper, for enhancement of property on a-Si:H TFTs We measure interface characteristics of ferroelectrics thin film and a-Si:H thin film. First, SrTiO
thin film is deposited bye-beam evaporation. Deposited films are annealed for 1 hour in N2 ambient at
. Dielectric characteristics of deposited SrTiO
films are very good because dielectric constant shows 50∼100 and breakdown electric field are 1 ∼ 1.5 MV/cm. a-SiN:H,a-Si:H(n-type a-Si:H) are deposited onto SrTiO
film to make MFNS(Meta1/ferroelectric/a-SiN:H/a-Si:H) by PECVD. After the C-V measurement for interface characteristics, MFNS structure shows no difference with MNS(Metal/a-SiN:H/a-Si:H) structure in C-V characteristics but the insulator capacitance value of MFNS structure is much higher than the MNS because of high dielectric constant of ferroelectric.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 506~512
The edge detection has been so far under a lot of studies on its methods, as a very important part of image recognition. Never the less the correct detection of the edge has been yet a difficult problem because of the various scopes of detection according to the applied field. One of those problems to be solved is the edge detection in images with noise. This paper presents an efficient method which removes noise and detect edge in the same framework based on fuzzy logic. The method consists of two steps. First, an efficient filtering is applied to eliminate the noise from original image. The filtering is performed by utilizing fuzzy MIN-MAX operator in three directions such as vertical, horizontal and diagonal angle of 3
3 mask. Second, edges are detected by using extended fuzzy Shanon Function.

Lee, Gye-Ho ; Han, Seung-jo ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 532~543
In this paper, we proposed structure of a reversible discrete-time cellular neural network (DTCNN) for labeling digital images to protect copylight. First, we present the concept and the structure of reversible DTCNN, which can be used to generate 2D binary pseudo-random images sequences. We presented some, output examples of different kinds of reversible DTCNNs to show their complex behaviors. Then both the original image and the copyright label, which is often another binary image, are used to generate a binary random key image. The key image is then used to scramble the original image. Since the reversibility of a reversible DTCNN, the same reversible DTCNN can recover the copyright label from a labeled image. Due to the high speed of a DTCNN chip, our method can be used to label image sequences, e.g., video sequences, in real time. Computer simulation results are presented.

Customized programmable interrupt controller, 8259, has 8 interrupt channels. Therefore, in the case of more external interrupt channels are needed, designers must expand by cascading the 8259. And this, 8259 device, have some inconvenience of interfacing the microprocessor in motor controls. In this paper, the expanded interrupt controller with 14 sufficient interrupt input channels for motor controls is designed using VHDL on the purpose of interfacing the microprocessor to the interrupt controller more compatibly and increasing the device utilization of FPGA/CPLD designed another peripherals. The interrupt controller model and each function blocks is proposed and illustrated. Simulation result are presented to estimate the designed interrupt controller
Tracking Moving Object using Hierarchical Search Method
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 7, issue 3, 2003, Pages 568~576
This paper proposes a moving object tracking algorithm by using hierarchical search method in dynamic scenes. Proposed algorithm is based on two main steps: generation step of initial model from different pictures, and tracking step of moving object under the time-yawing scenes. With a series of this procedure, tracking process is not only stable under far distance circumstance with respect to the previous frame but also reliable under shape variation from the 3-dimensional(3D) motion and camera sway, and consequently, by correcting position of moving object, tracking time is relatively reduced. Partial Hausdorff distance is also utilized as an estimation function to determine the similarity between model and moving object. In order to testify the performance of proposed method, the extraction and tracking performance have tested using some kinds of moving car in dynamic scenes. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm provides higher performance. Namely, matching order is 28.21 times on average, and considering the processing time per frame, it is 53.21ms/frame. Computation result between the tracking position and that of currently real with respect to the root-mean-square(rms) is 1.148. In the occasion of different vehicle in terms of size, color and shape, tracking performance is 98.66%. In such case as background-dependence due to the analogy to road is 95.33%, and total average is 97%.
