Design of a Miniature Broadband Dime Antenna
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 11~17
In this paper, A miniature broad-band dime antenna is designed. This antenna consists of two stacked circular patches that create two cylindrical slots resonating at two slightly different frequencies, fed by a strategically positioned coaxial prove. To increase the bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna, a configuration of stacked type is used. Furthermore, to reduce the size of microstrip patch antenna and obtain a double resonant behavior, two shorting-walls are used. Experimental results show that the antenna bandwidth is about 26% centered at 5.8㎓ and are close agreement with the calculation results by HFSS 7.0 software.

With the derived nonlinear modeling function of SSPA, We analysed the PSD characteristics of in-band and out-band output powers of SSPA EVM measurement results of distorted constellation signals with the input power levels of SSPA. The results of paper can be applied to find the SSPA linearly with optimum bias currents and determine the SSPA input backoff bias for AGC control circuits of SSPA.
An Efficient Method to Obtain Wind Speed Gradient with Low PRF Radar
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 28~33
The measurement of wind speed gradient is very important for the detection of hazardous wind shear conditions since they are characterized by the abrupt shift of wind velocity and direction. These weather conditions usually imply high wind speed which requires a high PRF radar for the measurement. However, the measurement of a large absolute wind velocity is not necessary to obtain wind speed gradient. In this paper, a method was proposed to obtain wind speed gradient with a simple low PRF radar which may be very useful for the purpose of practical applications.

Performance improvement of XCP-OFDM system using cross-handed circular polarization in frequency offset environments
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 49~56
An OFDM system using cross-handed circular Polarization(XCP-OFDM) is newly proposed in his paper. The proposed XCP-OFDM system divides the subchannels into a right-handed circular polarization(RHP channel and a left-handed circular polarization(LHCP) channel that alternate each other. Therefore, the overlaps between subcarriers in XCP-OFDM system can be reduced to a great extend compared to the conventional OFDM system. By this reason, it can improve the orthogonality and reduce the inter-channel interference due to frequency offset. In this paper, it can be seen that the proposed XCP-OFDM system shows robust against frequency offset.

Performance Evaluation of Short-cut Tunneling Schemes in Optimized Path Method over Mobile IP Networks
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 65~73
In this paper, we propose a tunnel establishment scheme using Next Hop Resolution Protocol over mobile IP networks, which consist of LAN-based IP networks and ATM-based IP networks. As a basic idea, we use the shortest path algorithm to establish a short-cut tunnel between HA and FA. Also, we classify methods for establishing a short-cut tunnel into four cases considering the locations of HA, FA, CN and MN. To confirm the advantages of our schemes, which deliver packets using short-cut tunnel in optimized path method over mobile IP networks, we performed mathematical analysis and simulation, compared proposed schemes with existing IP routing method in terms of transmission delay between CN and MN. The simulation results show that our scheme have superior performance to that of existing IP routing mechanism, because the store-and-forward delay which occurred in IP routing mechanism is considerably reduced in short-cut tunnel over ATM networks.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 74~79
In this study, embodied supervisory system that apply motion detection technique to small web camera and detects watch picture. Motion detection technique that use pixel value of car image that use in existing need memory to store background image. Also, there is sensitive shortcoming at increase of execution time by data process of pixel unit and noise. Suggested technique that compare extracting motion information by block unit to do to have complexion that solve this shortcoming and is strong at noise. Because motion information by block compares block characteristic value of image without need frame memory, store characteristic cost by block of image. Also, can get effect that reduce influence about noise and is less sensitive to flicker etc.. of camera more than motion detection that use pixel value in process that find characteristic value by block unit.
Character Extraction of Car License Plates using RGB Color Information and Fuzzy Binarization
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 80~87
In this paper we proposed the novel feature extraction method that is able to extract the individual characters from the license plate area of the car image more precisely by using the RGB color information and the fuzzy binarization newly proposed. The proposed method, first, extracts from the original image the areas that the pixels with the colors around the green are concentrated on as the candidate areas of the license plate, and selects the area with the most intensive distribution of pixels with the white color among the candidate areas as the license plate area. Second the noises of the license plate area should be removed by using 3
3 Sobel masking, and the fuzzy binarization method are proposed and applied to the license plate area to generate the binarized image of the license plate area. Lastly, the application of the contour tracking algorithm to the binarized area extracts the individual characters from the license plate area. The experiment on a variety of the real car images showed that the proposed method generates the higher rate of success for character extraction than the previous methods.
A Two-step Disk Scheduling Scheme for Deadline Guarantee of Multimedia on Demand Server
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 88~95
The previous disk scheduling schemes for best-effort applications do not guarantee the real-time requirement of multimedia objects and the real-time disk scheduling schemes do not satisfy throughput of multimedia server. So, this paper propose a two-step disk scheduling scheme to satisfy the requirement of best-effort as well as soft real-time applications. This scheme is based on the round robin algorithm that imposes different weights on the best-effort task and the real-time one. The experiment results on the Linux kernel have shown that both best-effort tasks and real-time tasks could get fair service.

Experimental Design of S box and G function strong with attacks in SEED-type cipher
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 123~136
In this paper, complexity and regularity of polynomial multiplication over
are defined by using Hamming weight of rows and columns of the matrix ever GF(2) which represents polynomial multiplication. It is shown experimentally that in order to construct the block cipher robust against differential cryptanalysis, polynomial multiplication of substitution layer and the permutation layer should have high complexity and high regularity. With result of the experiment, a way of constituting S box and G function is suggested in the block cipher whose structure is similar to SEED, which is KOREA standard of 128-bit block cipher. S box can be formed with a nonlinear function and an affine transform. Nonlinear function must be strong with differential attack and linear attack, and it consists of an inverse number over
which has neither a fixed pout, whose input and output are the same except 0 and 1, nor an opposite fixed number, whose output is one`s complement of the input. Affine transform can be constituted so that the input/output correlation can be the lowest and there can be no fixed point or opposite fixed point. G function undergoes linear transform with 4 S-box outputs using the matrix of 4
. The components in the matrix of linear transformation have high complexity and high regularity. Furthermore, G function can be constituted so that MDS(Maximum Distance Separable) code can be formed, SAC(Strict Avalanche Criterion) can be met, and there can be no weak input where a fixed point an opposite fixed point, and output can be two`s complement of input. The primitive polynomials of nonlinear function affine transform and linear transformation are different each other. The S box and G function suggested in this paper can be used as a constituent of the block cipher with high security, in that they are strong with differential attack and linear attack with no weak input and they are excellent at diffusion.
Platform Design for Optimal Migration Cost of Mobile Agents
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 137~149
A new software paradigm is required on the development of network and various service requirements. With this, many studies on a mobile agent have been made. For the execution of the mobile agent, migration is the most important factor that influences the performance of the mobile agent. In this paper we propose the method that leads to high migration efficiency in order to improve the performance. The features of our migration technique are as follows. First, the migration technique creates the dynamic itinerary that appropriately copes with the network conditions and the platform changes to improve the agent execution efficiency. Second, it perfecters an executed code to reduce the amount of the mobile data and reduces the execution time by instantiating the agent in advance. Third, it improves the execution efficiency by using the checkpoint-based recovery method that does not execute the agent again and recovers the process states even though the errors take place. Though the simulation we compare the proposed method with the existing methods. The simulation result shows that the proposed method outperform the existing methods in terms of migration.

Park, Young-Shig ; Park, Heyk-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 170~178
In this work a high speed 8-error correcting Reed-Solomon decoder is designed using the modified Euclid algorithm. Decoding algorithm of Reed-Solomon codes consists of four steps, those are, compute syndromes, find error-location polynomials, decide error-locations, and determine error values. The decoding speed is increased and the latency is reduced by using the parallel architecture in the syndrome generator and a faster clock speed in the modified Euclid algorithm block. In addition. the error locator polynomial in Chien search block is separated into even and odd terms to increase the overall speed of the decoder. All the functionalities of the decoder are verified first through C++ programs. Verilog is used for hardware description, and then the decoder is synthesized with a
CMOS TML library. The functionalities of the chip is also verified through test vectors. The clock speed of the chip is 250MHz, and the maximum data rate is 1Gbps.
The Grid Pattern Segmentation Using Hybrid Method
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 179~184
This paper presents an image segmentation algorithm to obtain the 3D body shape data that the grid pattern and the body contour lute in the background image are extracted using the new proposed hybrid method. The body contour line is extracted based on maximum biased anisotropic recognition(MaxBAR) algorithm which recognizes the most strong and robust edges in the image since the normal derivative at the edges is large, while the tangential derivatives can be small. The grid patterns within body contour lines are extracted by grid pattern detection (GPD). The body contour lilies and the grid patterns are combined. The consecutive run test based on heuristic method is used to link the disconnected line and reduce noise line. This proposed segmentation method is more effective than the conventional method which uses a gradient and a laplacian operator, verified with application two conventional method.
The Fabric Drape Property Measurement Using A Circularity
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 185~191
This article is concerned with cloth wearing system issues arising in the computer graphics. In particular, we study the issues of fabric drape properties for representing cloth wearing system. The convex points based on distance function are calculated to represent useful fabric drape properties. The information such as perimeter area, max and min point among convex point, the average distance between convex points are extracted. A strategy of a circularity based on the perimeter and area is considered for fabric drape property measurement. By experimental result, the circularity is most powerful factor to represent the drape property among the several characteristics. The measured drape properties will contribute to cloth wearing system development.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 192~199
As the construction site becomes larger, more complex and more special, the information of construction is expanded in quantity and specialized in quality. Therefore the computing system is necessary to effectively manage the construction schedule management. At present, main office at construction site bring in the computing system to perform the schedule management, so the data input and access for schedule management is performed by engineer on foot between construction site and main office. Therefore in this paper, we arrange wireless communication system between construction site and main of office and develop application program for data input and access of schedule management immediately using PDA at construction site. Through the our system we can improve the schedule management at construction site, and we can look forward to reduction of manpower, equipments, time, and money in whole construction.
XML Schema Definition and Translation of Electronic Navigational Chart
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 1, 2004, Pages 200~212
Electronic Navigational Chart is a sophisticated digital chart which contains navigational information such as coastline, depth of water, and nautical mark. It contains high levels of textual, spatial and graphical data, and rapidly replaces traditional paper charts. Although Electronic Navigational Chart has been successfully applied to the navigation of ships, the specific data format, S-57, requires some specialized systems. Furthermore its usage may be limited to specific domains and experts with restrictions. To overcome these limitations resulting from the specific data format, S-57, of Electronic Navigational Chart, more general data format such as XML will be preferred. If Electronic Navigational Chart is transformed into the form of XML, it can be easily accessed and exchanged on the internet. Therefore it may be used for more users and applications. In this paper, we propose an XML. Schema to equivalently represent XML for the S-57 format of Electronic Navigational Chart and develop a program translating the S-57 Electronic Navigational chart to XML document according to the proposed XML schema.
