Design of the Kernel Hardening Function in the Linux Network Module
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 961~969
A panic state is often caused by careless computer control. It could be also caused by a kernel programmer's mistake. It can make a big problem in computer system when it happens a lot. When a panic occurs, the process of the panic state has to be checked, then if it can be restored, operating system restores it, but if not, operating system runs the panic function to stop the system in the kernel hardening O.S. To decide recovery of the process, the type of the panic for the present process should be checked. 1'he value type and the address type have to restore the process. If the system process is in a panic state, the system should be designed to shutdown hardening function In the Linux operating system. So it has to decide whether the process should be restored or not before going to the panic state.
Analysis of Channel Estimation Algorithms in a RAKE Receiver with MRC
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 970~976
In this paper, we analyze channel estimation algorithms in a RAKE receiver with MRC. There are 3 popular channel estimation algorithms, which are WMSA(Weighted Multi-Slot Averaging) algorithm, EGE(Equal Gain Estimation) algorithm, SSE(Symbol-to-Symbol Estimation) algorithm. We analyze asynchronous IMT-2000(3GPP) which employ 3 different channel estimation algorithms by HP-ADS(Advanced Design System) simulation tool. We used lakes fading channel model for the analysis. from simulation results, we could observe that the performance of WMSA algorithm is better than others in low Doppler effect(3Km/h). However, in the case of high Doppler effect(120km1h), the EGE algorithm is more efficient. In this case the simple estimator with EGE algorithm seems to be more useful.
A Study on Multi-Pulse Speech Coding Method by using Individual Pitch Pulses
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 977~982
In this paper, I propose a new method of Multi-Pulse Coding(IP-MPC) use individual pitch pulses in order to accommodate the changes in each pitch interval and reduce pitch errors. The extraction rate of individual pitch pulses was 85% for female voice and 96% for male voice respectively. 1 evaluate the MPC by using pitch information of autocorrelation method and the IP-MPC by using individual pitch pulses. As a result, I knew that synthesis speech of the IP-MPC was better in speech quality than synthesis speech of the MPC.
Performance Degradation of OFDM System owing to Channel Estimation Error
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 983~987
Pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) can be used for the channel estimation. However, imperfect channel estimates degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance. I derive the exact BER of 16-level quadrature amplitude modulated (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with PSAM in time dispersive Rayleigh fading channels. In real system, there is 2.5 dB penalty in
for the same BER relative to ideal system with perfect channel estimation.
A Study on Interference Effects in OFDM System
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 988~994
In this paper we analyze the effects of frequency offset, doppler spread, sampling and oscillator phase noise in mobile channels on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)system, Since this kind of distortions cause subcarrier interference which can be seen as additional noise, performance of OFDM system is degraded. We show the limitation of maximum carrier frequency offset and doppler frequency to maintain designated SNR, and analyze characteristics of the performance of OFDM systems considering the oscillator phase noise.

A Network Time Server using CPS
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1004~1009
Precise time synchronization is a main technology in high-speed communications, parallel and distributed processing systems, Internet information industry and electronic commerce. Synchronized clocks are useful for many leasers. Often a distributed system is designed to realize some synchronized behavior, especially in real-time processing in factories, aircraft, space vehicles, and military applications. Nowadays, time synchronization has been compulsory thing as distributed processing and network operations are generalized. A network time server obtains, keeps accurate and precise time by synchronizing its local clock to standard reference time source and distributes time information through standard time synchronization protocol. This paper describes design issues and implementation of a network time server for time synchronization especially based on a clock model. The system uses GPS (Global Positioning System) as a standard reference time source and offers UTC (universal Time coordinated) through NTP (Network Time protocol). Implementation result and performance analysis are also presented.
Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication System with FSMC Model in Nakagami-m Fading Channel
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1010~1019
In this paper, we represent Nakagami-m fading channel as finite-State Markov Channel (FSMC) and analyze the performance of wireless communication system with varying the fading channel condition. In FSMC model, the received signal's SNR is divided into finite intervals and these intervals are formed into Markov chain states. Each state is modeled by a BSC and the transition probability is dependent upon the physical characterization of the channel. The steady state probability and average symbol error rate of each state and transition probability are derived by numerical analysis and FSMC model is formed with these values. We found that various fading channels can be represented with FSMC by changing state transition index. In fast fading environment in which state transition index is large, the channel can be viewed as i.i.d. channel and on the contrary, in slow fading channel where state transition index is small, the channel can be represented by simple FSMC model in which transitions occur between just adjacent states. And we applied the proposed FSMC model to analyze the coding gain of random error correcting code on various fading channels via computer simulation.

Information Retrieval Using Natural Language for Multimedia Information Management Database System
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1035~1041
Currently users are tend to use multimedia data types in their applications. Main features of multimedia data types are large amount of data compared to conventional data types. In this reason, it's hard to load data into main memory and to search. That is the cause of occur disk input and output frequently, and decrease the system performance. In this paper, we describe to have fast and efficient access to multimedia data using index technique. Index method presented by paper consists of two parts : one is index file part for keywords and the other is posting file part for the list of file names. Of course, we use keyword. But user is not charge of memory for the keywords. Users just use natural language to insert, delete and search data what he or she wants. Internally, System makes keywords from natural language to get access to multimedia data. It provides convenience to users. Using this study to develop one's application for multimedia, one may have a chance for advanced performance of a system and getting a result speedily.

The Structured Grid Pattern Calibration Based On Triangulation Method
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1074~1079
So far, many sensors such as a structured grid pattern generator, a laser, and CCD camera to obtain 3D information have been used, but most of algorithms for a calibration are inefficient since a huge memory and experiment time are required. In this paper, the calibration algorithm of a structured grid pattern based on triangulation method is introduced to calculate 3D information in the real world. The beams generated from structured grid pattern generator established horizontally with the CCD camera are projected on the calibration plat. A CCD camera measures the intersection plane of a projected beam and an object plane. The 3D information is calculated using measured and calibration datum. This proposed method in this paper has advantages such as a memory saving and an efficient experimental time since the 3D information is obtained simply the triangulation method.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1080~1088
In this paper, the interesting moving objects tracking algorithm using color information on Multi-Video camera against variance of intensity, shape and background is proposed. Moving objects are detected by using difference image method and integral projection method to background image and objects image only with hue area, after converting RGB color coordination of image which is input from multi-video camera into HSI color coordination. Hue information of the detected moving area are segmented to 24 levels from
. It is used to the feature parameter of the moving objects that are three segmented hue levels with the highest distribution and difference among three segmented hue levels. To examine propriety of the proposed method, human images with variance of intensity and shape and human images with variance of intensity, shape and background are targeted for moving objects. As surveillance results of the interesting human, hue distribution level variation of the detected interesting human at each camera is under 2 level, and it is confirmed that the interesting human is tracked and surveilled by using feature parameters at cameras, automatically.
Genetic Algorithm Using-Floating Point Representation for Steiner Tree
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1089~1095
The genetic algorithms have been used to take a near optimal solution because The generation of the optimal Steiner tree from a given network is NP-hard problem,. The chromosomes in genetic algorithm are represented with the floating point representation instead of the existing binary string for solving this problem. A spanning tree was obtained from a given network using Prim's algorithm. Then, the new Steiner point was computed using genetic algorithm with the chromosomes in the floating point representation, and it was added to the tree for approaching the result. After repeating these evolving steps, the near optimal Steiner tree was obtained. Using this method, the tree is quickly and exactly approached to the near optimal Steiner tree compared with the existing genetic algorithms using binary string.
Real 3-D Shape Restoration using Lookup Table
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1096~1101
The 3-D shape use to effect of movie, animation, industrial design, medical treatment service, education, engineering etc.... But it's not easy to make 3-D shape from the information of 2-D image. There are two methods in restoring 3-D video image through 2-D image; First the method of using a laser; Secondly the method of acquiring 3-D image through stereo vision. Instead of doing two methods with many difficulties, I figure out the method of simple 3-D image in this research paper. We present here a simple and efficient method, called direct calibration, which doesn't require any equations at all. The direct calibration procedure builds a lookup table(LUT) linking image and 3-D coordinates by a real 3-D triangulation system. The LUT is built by measuring the image coordinates of a grid of known 3-D points, and recording both image and world coordinates for each point; the depth values of all other visible points are obtained by interpolation.
Matching Algorithms using the Union and Division
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1102~1107
Fingerprint Recognition System is made up of Off-line treatment and On-line treatment; the one is registering all the information of there trieving features which are retrieved in the digitalized fingerprint getting out of the analog fingerprint through the fingerprint acquisition device and the other is the treatment making the decision whether the users are approved to be accessed to the system or not with matching them with the fingerprint features which are retrieved and database from the input fingerprint when the users are approaching the system to use. In matching between On-line and Off-line treatment, the most important thing is which features we are going to use as the standard. Therefore, we have been using “Delta” and “Core” as this standard until now, but there might have been some deficits not to exist in every person when we set them up as the standards. In order to handle the users who do not have those features, we are still using the matching method which enables us to make up of the spanning tree or the triangulation with the relations of the spanned feature. However, there are some overheads of the time on these methods and it is not sure whether they make the correct matching or not. Therefore, I would like to represent the more correct matching algorism in this paper which has not only better matching rate but also lower mismatching rate compared to the present matching algorism by selecting the line segment connecting two minutiae on the same ridge and furrow structures as the reference point.
An Implementation of (Ab)(Cl) Set Unification
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1108~1113
‘Set’ is a tool that is used frequently in designing computer programs. Because of the reason, ‘set constraints languages’ have been developed recently. In this research, we introduce ‘(Ab)(Cl) set unification’ problem and implement it using the ‘set equation rewriting in Prolog’. In this research we shows that the set unification, that is considered to be difficult to be implemented in procedural languages, ran be implemented easily using the non-deterministic control structure and the list data structure in logic language like Prolog. Our research uses the Ciao Prolog with GNU GPL, this is compared with other existing implementations which used expensive commercial Prolog, so anyone can use the result freely. Currently the result is being used for implementing a set constraint language.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1120~1128
In this paper, we has designed and implemented Up-converter for K-band with high IMD3 performance using balanced power amplifier. It is consisted of PA module and, Local Oscillator module with reject Filter, mixer module and If block, and Up-converter has a local loop path to decide whether it operate or not and has the sensing port to inspect output power level. According to the power budget of designed Up-converter, K-band balanced power amplifier was fabricated by commercial MMIC. Measurement results of up-converter show about 40dB Gain, PldB of 29dBm and OIP3 was 38.25dBm, that is good performance compared to power budgets. We has adjusted gate voltage of MMIC to control more than 30 dB gain. This up-converter was used in transceiver for PTP and PTMP, and applied to digital communication system that use QAM and QPSK modulation.

Effect of Cross Phase Modulation on Channel Compensation in 320 Gbps Intensity Modulation / Direct Detection WDM Transmission Systems
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 8, issue 5, 2004, Pages 1134~1140
In this paper, we investigated the effect of cross phase modulation(XPM) on compensation for WDM channel distortion due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation and XPM as a function of fiber dispersion coefficient and modulation format in 320 Gbps WDM systems. The considered WDM transmission system is based on mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) compensation method, which has highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber(HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the mid-way of total transmission line. We confirmed that the maximum channel input power resulting 1 dB eye opening penalty is reduced due to XPM effect on channel distortion, even if MSSI method was applied to WDM system. But, we confirmed that the effect of XPM on channel distortion becomes decrease as fiber dispersion coefficient of WDM system becomes larger. Futhermore, we confirmed that NRZ is better than RZ as a modulation format for similarly compensating overall WDM channels in WDM system with large fiber dispersion coefficient in order to minimize the effect of the XPM on channel distortion.
