A Study on Fire Risk Assessment by the Consideration of Individual Evacuating Path Line

In this study, we provided an index for the quantitative and systematic performance based fire risk assessment. A complex cinema was adopted for the fire scenario and the fire simulation was carried out by using FDS. Also evacuation time was calculated by using SIMULEX. We obtained a big different fire risk assessment result by the focus on the between space basis and the time basis. As a result of this study, performance based fire risk assessment should be performed on the basis of individual evacuee's path line.
Failure Probability Evaluation of Pressure Tube using the Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics

In order to evaluate the integrity of Zr-2.5Nb pressure tubes, probabilistic fracture mechanics(PFM) approach was employed. Failure assessment diagram(FAD), plastic collapses, and critical crack lengths(CCL) were used for evaluating the failure probability as failure criteria. The Kr-FAD as failure assessment diagram was used because fracture of pressure tubes occurred in brittle manner due to hydrogen embrittlement of material by deuterium fluence. The probabilistic integrity evaluation observed AECL procedures and used fracture toughness parameters of EPRI and recently announced theory. In conclusion, the probabilistic approach using the Kr-FAD made it possible to determine major failure criterion in the pressure tube integrity evaluation.
A Numerical Method for One-dimensional Inverse Heat Conduction Problem Using Laplace Transform

An numerical method to estimate thermal diffusivity has been developed for one-dimensional unsteady heat conduction problem, when the temperatures are know at two positions in a semi-infinite body. Using the closed form solution which has already derived an explicit solution for the inverse problem for one-dimensional transient heat conduction using Laplace transform technique, we first estimate the surface temperature. The thermal diffusivity can be estimated by using the estimated surface temperature and measured temperatures, which include some uncertainties. The estimated surface heat flux and thermal diffusivity are found to be in good agreement with those of the experimented conditions. This method will be extended to the simultaneous measurement of thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity.
Development and Characteristics of Detector for Open of Current Transformer Secondary Terminal

Instrument transformers are a safe measurement device designed to measure high voltage and large current. A current transformer(CT) is a type of instrument transformer designed to provide a current in its secondary winding proportional to the current flowing in its primary. It is commonly used in metering and protective relaying in the electrical power industry where it facilitates the safe measurement of large current. But, care must be taken that the secondary of a current transformer is not disconnected from its load while current is flowing in the primary, as this will produce a dangerously high voltage across the open secondary, and may permanently affect the accuracy of the transformer. Especially, industrial disaster such as an electric shock and/or a burn accident occurs occasionally by disregard of warning or attention. In this paper, we developed the detector for open of current transformer secondary terminal, and which was tested by the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute. Test results show that Current Transformer secondary Open Detector(CTOD) interrupted within one second electronically when the 2nd terminal of current transformer opened.
Analysis for the Thermal Properties of the Electrical Wire according to Overload and Disconnection

According to the statistical analysis on the electrical fire of 2005 years, most of electrical fire is generated from short circuit(4,985 cases), overcurrent(755 cases) leakage current(391 cases), poor contact(378 cases), disconnection(36 cases) on the electrical wiring device. The researches for the fire hazard about normal electric wiring have already been progressing in the advanced country such as USA and Japan, but Comparative study of the disconnection has not been conducted. Therefore, in this paper, we have simulated the thermal analysis for electrical wire according to deteriorating time in a normal state and disconnection with electrical wire using the electrical-thermal finite element method(Flux 3D). This paper acquire basis data of electricity fire signal by disconnection and wish to help for electrical fire cause diagnosis business.

In this article, we conducted the injection of the dilution gas at the manifold between booster pump and dry pump compared with the typical method that the dilution gas was injected into inlet port of booster pump using computer simulation. According to the result, we can flow further more purge gas for safety without any change of the condition in the process chamber, which means that the higher capacity pump is not required for safety in some cases.
The Measurement and Estimation of Lower Flash Points for n-Propanol+Acetic acid and n-Propanol+n-Propionic Systems

Flash points for the flammable binary systems, n-propanol+acetic acid and n-propanol+n-propionic acid, were measured by Cleveland open cup tester. The Raoult's law, the van Laar equation and the UNIQUAC equation were used for predicting flash points and were compared with experimentally-derived data. The calculated values based on the van Laar and UNIQUAC equations were found to be better than those based on the Raoult's law. And the predictive curve of the flash point prediction model based on the UNIQUAC equation described the experimentally-derived data more effectively than was the case when the prediction model was based upon the the van Laar equation.

Lack of understanding of the process chemistry and thermodynamics are the major reasons that can is lead to thermal runaway reaction in the chemical reaction process. The evaluation of reaction factors and thermal behavior in neutralization process of pigment plant are described in this paper. The experiments were performed in the C 80 calorimeter, and Thermal Screening Unit(
). The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of thermal stability in terms of safety reliability to be practical applications. It suggested that we be proposed safe operating conditions and securities for accident prevention through this study.
Improvement Index and Characteristic for the Safety Management Level of Domestic Construction Companies

In order to present basic data for the balancing improvement of safety management level in domestic construction companies the improvement index and characteristic of safety management level are offered by comparing the year 2006's safety level with the year 2001's one. The companies under concern are classified into 51 large scale companies and 61 middle and small scale ones. The safety management level of both head office and construction sites is improved for all companies without regard to the scale. Specially, the improvement index of middle and small scale companies shows the higher rate than large ones and head office higher than construction sites.
Finite Element Analysis for the Effects on the Stiffness of the Embankment and Sandmat on the Deformation Property and the Safety of Road Embankment

Effects on the stiffness of the embankment and sandmat on the construction safety of road embankment was investigated in this study by the numerical experiments using FEM. Two points was mainly focused in this study especially. First the deformation characteristics by the change of the stiffness of sand mat and embankment was investigated by the analyzing the consolidation settlement at the center of the embankment and the lateral displacement at the toe of the embankment. And, the effect of the stiffness on the stress distribution characteristics was also investigated in this study. Furthermore, slope stability analysis was carried out to gain the safe factor by change the stiffness of the sandmat and the embankment. The objective of the study is supplying the result of the numerical experiments for the geotechnical engineers who use the FEM for the safety design of the soil structures. As a result, the stiffness of the superstructures greatly affects on the deformation characteristics both in consolidation settlement and lateral displacement. However, it can be aware that it is not dominants to the stress distribution in the aspect that the no changes in the residual excess pore water pressure. Therefore, the decision of the stiffness has to be carried out deliberately considering not only the consolidation the magnitude of the settlement and the lateral displacement, but the slope stability.
An Analysis of Human Error Mode and Type in the Railway Accidents and Incidents

Human error is one of the major contributors to the railway accidents or incidents. In order to develop an effective countermeasure to remove or reduce human errors, a systematic analysis should be preferentially performed to identify their causes, characteristics, and types of human error induced in accidents or incidents. This paper introduces a case study for human error analysis of the railway accidents and incidents. For the case study, more than 1,000 domestic railway accidents or incidents that happened during the year of 2004 have been investigated and a detailed error analysis was performed on the selected 90 cases, which were obviously caused by human error. This paper presents a classification structure for human error analysis, and summarizes the analysis results such as causes of the events, error modes and types, related worker, and task type.
A Study to Revitalize of the Honorary Industrial Safety Inspector System - In Construction Industry -

The purpose of this study is to put forward revitalization of the Honorary Industrial Safety Inspector System by using the survey(2006.05) of the Honorary Industrial Safety Inspector in the Construction Industry. It can be summarized to develop the system as the following: 1) If there are neither labor union nor representative of workers in a company, workers must elect the representative of workers at first and then recommendation of the honorary industrial safety inspector by the representative of workers, 2) It should regulated in the industrial safety and health act about the tenure of the representative of workers and the process of election, 3) Prohibition the honorary industrial safety inspector as the employer members in the Industrial Safety and Health Committee and exclusion of both main office supervisor and subcontract-company supervisor from the appointment of the honorary industrial safety inspector, 4) Measures to realize the prohibitive regulation of unfavorable treatment on the grounds that the inspector has performed legitimate activities as an Honorary Industrial Safety Inspector, 5) Statutory regulation of the educations' hours(primary education & professional education), 6) Specification of the professional education and increase of the frequency, 7) Support of the government(the Ministry of Labor) to revitalize the honorary industrial safety inspector system, 8) Put in a statutory form the regular hours to carry out the work of the honorary industrial safety inspector in the workplace.
A Study on the Analysis and the Improvement of the Safety and Health Consciousness between the Regular Employees and Non-regular Employees

This study is perform to improve the current point at issue of the non-regular employees, comparing the safety and health consciousness of between the regular employees and non-regular employees in manufacturing factory. The investigation is carried out using the statistical analysis. The study presents that most of the non-regular employees answer in the negative the current job satisfaction, work load, work risk, concern on the safety and health, education, occupational safety and health system than the regular employees. For the improvement of these problems, the government's safety and health policy should be changed and acknowledgement of the employer and employee on the safety and health should be improved.
Musculoskeletal Stress Disorder Problems at a Chicken Farm

The objective of this study was to find the musculoskeletal stress problems at chicken farms in Korea. One typical chicken farm was surveyed in this study. NLE(NIOSH Lifting Equation), REBA(Rapid Entire Body Assessment), and OWAS(Ovako Working Analysis System) were used to evaluate the extent of the musculoskeletal stress. It was found that there were some tasks which required fast innovation. It was also found that the RWL (Recommended Weight of Lift) was 4.6Kg. that was lower than weights which were handled by these workers.
An Effective Procedure for Development of Industrial Safety Signs Corresponding to International Criteria

Usually pictograms embedded in safety signs are such final means to transmit hazard information that the importance of them cannot be emphasized too much. Nevertheless, in Korea, few people are interested in safety signs and their functions so that evaluation of safety signs are seldom committed nor safety signs draw workers' attention to fulfill their functions. Therefore this research aimed to standardize the procedure for developing safety signs in order not only to give practical help to industrial workers but to match them international standards, and to develop a few examples through the suggested standard procedure. As results, a procedure for developing industrial safety signs was developed by combining both ANSI Z535.3 and ISO 9186 with a special emphasis on action inducibility as the former emphasized as well as comprehensibility as the latter suggested. According to test results with undergraduate students as well as industrial workers on a few signs developed through the suggested procedure, action inducibility was higher whereas confusion rate was lower than expected on one hand, and it could be concluded that the procedure would supply results that can be satisfied on the other hand.
A Brief History and National Safety Regulation on the Weapons of Mass Destruction Including Biological Agents

A bioterrorism attack is the deliberate release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs(agents) used to cause illness or death in people, animals, or plant. These agents are found in nature, but it is possible that they could be changed to increase their ability to cause disease, make them resistant to current medicines, or to increase their ability to be spread into the environment. Terrorists may use biological agents because these agents can be extremely difficult to detect and do not cause illness for several days. Some bioterrorism agents, like smallpox virus, can spread from person to person, like anthrax, can not. From these agents, we discussed the characteristics of biological agents and national safety regulation on the weapons of mass destruction including bioterrorism.
A Study on the Damage of Fireball by the Butane-Can Explosion

There have been 3E problems of energy, economy and environment since the earth has its history. Especially, as the industrial society is highly developing, human need in daily life has also changed drastically. With the introduction of 40 hour working week system, more households enjoy picnics on weekends. More gas accidents take place on Saturdays and on Sundays than any other days of week. Consequently, this study tries to find out the influence of flame caused by the explosion of butane canister on the adjacent combustibles and people by simulating relevant quantity of TNT. In addition, the damage estimation was conducted by using API regulations. If the scale of the radiation heat is known by calculating the distance of flame influence from the explosion site, the damage from the site can be easily estimated. And the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structures and people into the PROBIT model. According to the pro bit analyze, the spot which is 50cm away from the flame has 97% of the damage probability by the first-degree burn, 8% of the damage probability by the second-degree burn and 4% of the death probability by the fire.
