Wear Patterns and Mechanisms of Cutting Tool in Cutting of Machinable Ceramics
Jang, Sung-Min ; Baek, Seung-Yub ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 1~6
When the ceramic material is being machined, micro crack and brittle fracture dominate the process of material removal. Generally, ceramics are very difficult-to-cut materials and machined using conventional method such as grinding and polishing. However, such processes are generally cost-expensive and have low material removal rate. Machinable ceramics used in this study contain BN powder to overcome these problem and for productivity elevation. This paper focuses on machinability evaluation during end mill process with CNC machining center in this study. Experiment for this purpose is performed for tool wear patterns and mechanism.

Lee, Gi-Chun ; Kim, Hyoung-Eui ; Kim, Jae-Hoon ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 7~14
Ultra high pressure system, which can be generally increased over 1,000bar, needs to have sealing mechanism to protect leakage and selection of the materials used in the intensifier. Components such as pressure vessel, hydraulic hose assembly, accumulator, hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic valve, pipe, etc., are tested under the impulse-pressure conditions. Components need to be tested under 1.5 to 3 times of rated pressure to check the tolerance even though rated pressure range of these components are not ultra high pressure. So, the ultra high pressure system needs to be equiped to test components. In this study, safety assessments of ultra high pressure system which are using failure analysis of components, changing the types of the control system, and finite element analysis with static condition, are investigated.

Kim, Kyu-Joong ; Lee, Keun-Oh ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 15~21
Regenerative Energy Storage System(ESS) is a system that saves regenerative energy which generated instantly in the regenerative braking of Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and disappear, and reuse the stored energy when EMU is in powering. Such system related to a research field of renewable energy which emerged concerning climate change and high oil prices. In the case of existing domestic rolling stock, about 25% to 30% of generated regenerative energy is restored to power source and is regarded as direct factor of raising catenary voltage. Such rapid change of catenary voltage is a cause of the failure of EMU's electronic equipment and lowering its reliability and is also a cause of train's fault occurred by tripping circuit breaker. In this paper, we intend to investigate the effect on blending characteristics of electric-braking and pneumatic-braking whether the regenerative energy storage system is used or not in urban transit DC 1,500V feeding system, while trains run. And we also intend to investigate its effect on stabilization of the blending, fluctuation of catenary voltage and various electric equipments.

Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 22~26
The ignitability(minimum ignition energy, MIE) of a suspended dust clouds is very important aspect of technical safety indices. This paper reported the experimental results dealing with the influence of discharge circuit on the MIE of a suspended dust clouds. The movement of a suspended dust clouds was also observed with the high speed camera. The Hartmann vertical-tube apparatus(MIKE-3) described in the international standard of IEC and Polypropylene (PP, 50% volume-average, D50:
) resin powders were used in this experiment. The following results were obtained: (1) the MIE of a suspended PP powder depended markedly on the discharge circuit; in other words, when a resistor was connected in series with the discharge sparking circuit(RC), the lowest value(31mJ) of MIE was obtained for a suspended PP powder comparison with the other circuits(C circuit; 370mJ or LC circuit; 71mJ). (2) the discharge duration time is more important than other factors with regard to MIE of a suspended PP powder.

Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 27~32
This study is to investigate and compare domestic hazardous toys with harmful substances with foreign toys so that we can find out management criteria for in cognitive infants. Actually, commercially used toys have been collected and tested to find out more effective management standard. it is tried to produce evaluation criteria of environmentally harmful substance but variety of product is needed for overcoming actual barrier due to lot of difficulty huge cost, time, objectiveness. Therefore, This study does not cover all the above. Establishment of evaluation criteria for product harmfulness made by Government or Local government should be continued to improve. Foreign reference material for toy product in Europe, USA, Japan have been investigated and domestic product have been collected and tested for containing heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalate in the study. All the test have been made in accordance with KSM ISO 2124 to measure heavy metal transfer into body. Toy product used for the study have been purchased in the real market and some of them contains harmful elements with over standard. Post management system such as RAPEX to control periodically should be established for plastic toy with low quality product.
A Study on Safety Accidents at Construction Work Sites of Railway
Bang, Myung-Seok ; Choi, Soo-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 33~38
Railway is one of popular transportation systems. Due to the safety and in time, the transportation by train is preferred to the others for a long time. However, accidents under railway construction get more serious problems than in case of the other system, because it is the largest mass transportation system. Especially, the railway construction is composed of different kinds of construction works such as civil, architect, electric and mechanic. It is closely/complicatedly connected with various workers, large machines and facilities, regulations etc. In this study the data on safety accidents are corrected during 6 years(2004~2009) and analyzed by time(year, month, week, day, a.m or p.m), place, field, type etc. Results shows that there exists remakable trends on accidents, so efficient treatments should be prepared considering this trend.

Kim, Doo-Hwan ; Baek, Kyung-Su ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 39~43
The surfacing of bridge-decks are object to secure trafficability and to protect bridge face from impact load of traffic volume and other external conditions. But the deformation of pavements and cracks happen due to the damage of the bridge-decks surfacing from the increase of the traffic, short maintenance period and continuous vibration of bridge. This test is to make the 3-type high performance concrete that has different mixing ratio and is added the blast furnace slag, fly ash and silica respectively, and to compare 3-type high performance concrete of normal high strength concrete of
strength through the static loading test and fatigue test. And test specimen is united floor slab and pavement for the durability of bridge.
Proposal on the Prediction Equation of Ultimate stress of External Tendon for the Prestressed Concrete Beams with External Tendons
Yoo, Sung-Won ; Ha, Heon-Jae ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 44~53
Recently, the external prestressed concrete structures are increasingly being built. The mechanical behavior of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendon is different from that of normal bonded PSC beams in that the increment of tendon stress was derived by whole member behavior. By this reason, the ultimate stress of external tendon is smaller than that of bonded tendon or internal unbonded tendon. However, in the domestic and abroad code, the equation of ultimate stress of external tendon is not suggested yet, and the equation of ultimate stress of internal unbonded tendon is used instead of that of external tendon. Therefore, in this paper, after effective variables of ultimate stress of external tendon were analyzed, the analytical equation of ultimate stress of external tendon was proposed. And the reasonable coefficients were proposed by statistical work of test results of 25 beam with external tendon. Finally, the practical proposed equation of ultimate stress of external tendon was proposed with analytical and statistical model. The equation of ACI-318 and AASHTO 1994 were not matched with test results and had no correlations, and the proposed equation was well matched with test results. So the proposed equation in this paper will be a effective basis for the evaluation of external tendons in analysis and design.
Effects of Bridge Bearings by Structure-Track Interaction for Continuous Bridge applied CWR with Rail Expansion Joint under Temperature Load
Chung, Jee-Seung ; Lee, Jong-Soon ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 54~61
The additional axial force of CWR(continuous welded rail) is occurred by structure-track interaction, in reverse, fixed supports of structure are applied the large load by that. Ratio of load which transferred on support through the bridge superstructure with one-side REJ by acceleration and braking load are stated in High-Speed Rail Design Criteria(2005). On the other hand the horizontal forces of support delivered to the load due to thermal loads has been no report about the criteria. Therefore, this study was performed the review of the reaction and displacement on support by structure-track interaction in a special bridge(composite brdiges, 45+55+55+45=200m) with REJ acting on the temperature load. As a result, because fixed support of a special bridge or a continuous bridge with REJ under the temperature load which is constant load has been acted the large lateral load by structure-track interaction, when determining the fixed bearing capacity of structure should be reflected in the results to secure the safety of structures was confirmed.

Journal of the Korean Society of Safety , volume 25, issue 5, 2010, Pages 62~68
The main purpose of this study was to examine relative effects on safety behaviors between global feedback and specific feedback at a construction site. Participants were 30 full-time workers at a construction site. Five safety related behaviors were identified as critical behaviors. An ABCB within-group design was adopted. After baseline (A), participants received global feedback on their average percentage of all five target safety behaviors (B). In the next phase, participants received specific feedback on the percentages of individual target behaviors (C). In the final phase, the global feedback condition was reintroduced (B). Results showed that both global feedback and specific feedback were effective in increasing the frequencies of safety behaviors and there were no differences in the effectiveness between the two types of feedbacks.
