Stability Analysis of Counterbalanced Forklift Trucks

Forklift truck is a very convenient transportation vehicle and widely used in industries. However, a lot of overturn accidents occur during operation because of poor understanding on the stability of forklift trucks. The stability of a forklift is defined by the minimum slope of the ramp where a forklift truck overturns. According to the KS BISO 22915-2 code, the stability is determined from the four kinds of stability tests. The equations for the stability of a forklift truck were proposed already in several published literatures and the equations can be used conveniently to estimate the stability and examine the effects of design parameters in forklift trucks. However, because the detail derivation procedure was omitted, it is very difficult to examine the accuracy of the proposed equations and to modify the equations for other types of forklift trucks. In this paper the stability equations were derived again with detail derivations for the four kinds of stability tests. And the effects of acceleration or centrifugal forces were also additionally included in the equations and minor corrections were also made.
Analysis of Deterioration Characteristics for Connection Factor used in Grounding System

This paper describes the analysis of deterioration characteristics for connection factor used in grounding system. The connection method of grounding system is specified in IEC standard. In order to analyze the deterioration characteristics for connection factor, deterioration test was carried out when the connection factor was buried in salt water and underground. The test connection factors were C-type sleeve, clamp, and exothermic welding. As a consequence, most of the connection factor was corroded, and the electrical resistance decreased after deterioration. The analytical results can be used to establish the safety of grounding system.
Analysis of Hazardous Heavy Metal in Colored Materials of Playground Facility for Children

The content of hazardous heavy metal of materials used in playground facility for children was investigated using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyses, In order to examine the content of hazardous heavy metals according to the material color, four colors, i.e., green, red, yellow and blue, were categorized on the materials used. The highest lead content is observed in the yellow plastic samples. The yellow samples with relatively high lead content show that the chrome content is also high. This can explained that lead chromate, so-called chromium yellow, is normally used as a main pigment to express the yellow color. Therefore, it is concluded that hazardous heavy metal detected in the materials of playground facility for children is due to the pigments used for coloring. Based on above findings, the relationship between the color of materials used in playground facility for children and the content of hazardous heavy metal is discussed.

A Study on Shear Connector Performance Estimation for Plan Extension of RC Apartment Structures

Nowadays, remodeling cases for some apartment like Hyundai through the support of government are reported. Conventionally, balcony and aisle are extended for additional private area or balcony which is supported by new frame is extended. In extension work at site, dowel bar is conventionally inserted in old concrete slab for connection with old and new slab, however, an examination for structural safety is rarely performed prior to construction, if ever, vertical load is only considered for structural analysis. When conventionally connected structures are exposed to earthquake, the old and new structures have individual earthquake behavior with different mode, which may lead the elimination of resistance to earthquake in new structures. As of this reason, new detailing connection system which can have light weight and sufficient ductility performance is developed for application to domestic extension works. Additionally, user manual and specification are also developed for fertilization of application for the developed technology.
The Survey of the Current Situation for System Scaffolding in the Domestic Construction Site(II)

It is a tendency for enterprises in the domestic construction field to harness the system scaffolding with an aim to securing safety, despite slight increase in terms of the construction cost. Nevertheless, given that putting the system into service in reality is not accurately surveyed by far and that safety standards and methods for safe work therewith are not yet established, hazardous factors involving the system scaffolding remain latent leaving unrecognized. In this regard, the current study attempts to understand the status of implementation and use of the system scaffolding in the local construction sites as for the year 2009 and the year 2013 through questionnaire surveying and in-depth interviewing, while further proposing, based on the result thereof, ways for activating introduction of the system scaffolding in an effective and systematic manner.
Effect of Boundary Condition on Buckling Characteristics of Pipe Supports

Recently, a lot more disasters in the temporary structures happen because the stabilities of the temporary structures are disregarded by the reduction of the unit cost, using defective materials, the existing materials and so on. Pipe supports, which are one of the temporary structures, are basically used for the most constructing works such as buildings, bridges, plants and so on. In the most sites, adequate support installations of the pipe supports have not been performed although the presence of the guideline legally and institutionally. In this study, therefore, the collapse accidents of the pipe supports were investigated on the basis of theoretical analysis as well as the buckling tests by simulating the site support condition. Both the theocratical analysis and test results show that the buckling load in the fixed ends is at least 4 times larger than one in the pinned ends. This results will be utilized for safety assurance as well as accident prevention the in the field application.
Effect of Horizontal Connection and Slope on Buckling Characteristics of Single Pipe

The number of collapse accidents relevant to form support since 2003 is 30 on the basis of statistical data from Ministry of Employment and Labor,. Total number of casualty was 138 (47 for deaths and 91 for injuries). The accident severity rate was high because the 4.6 casualties per one accident were occurred averagely although the incident rate was relatively low. Especially, one of form support members, the pipe supports have not been equipped adequately so that the accidents could have happened. In this regard, this study performed buckling test related to the effect of horizontal connection and slope in the single pipe which is one of typical pipe supports. The buckling load, which was estimated from the single pipe with the horizontal connectors theoretically and experimentally, was increased as more than 2 times compared to the buckling load obtained from the pipe supports without the connector. The buckling load was reduced as more than 26%, 34% slope of the single pipe comparing with 5% and 10% slope, respectively. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide the guideline for installation and the maintenance of the pipe supports legally and institutionally to prevent the collapse accidents of the pipe supports.
Study on Prevention of Drowsiness Driving using Electrocardiography(LF/HF) Index

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the index of Electrocardiography(LF/HF) and the occurrence of drowsiness driving while driving in a simulated situation. Participants were 31 undergraduate students with an experience in driving and they participated 30 minutes driving under enough sleep condition and 1 hour under the sleep deprivation condition. The Euro Truck Simulator II was used for driving simulation task and ECG and perceived drowsiness of each participants were measured during two driving conditions. Perceived sleepiness recorded by the checklist every 10 minutes and ECG data extracted before and after 15 seconds of every 10 minutes to verify the relationship between two variables. The results showed that the level of perceived sleepiness under sleep deprivation condition was higher than that under the enough sleep condition, and the level of LF/HF under sleep deprivation condition was lower than that under the enough sleep condition. In addition, the result of analysis of repeated measure ANOVA for ECG indicated that authentic sleepiness revealed in 20 minutes after the start of driving under the sleep deprivation condition. However, the result of perceived drowsiness indicated that authentic sleepiness revealed in 30 minutes after the start of driving. These result suggest that the time difference between biological and perceived response on drowsiness may be exist. Finally, the significant negative correlation between the LF/HF level and perceived drowsiness was observed. These findings suggest that ECG(LF/HF) can be an possible index to measure drowsiness driving.
A Study on the Evaluatioin Methods for the Rear Safety Zone of Portable Guided Missile

Recoilless weapons, which lead strong back blast and impulse noise more than 160 dB, have been used in compliance with the regulation of the safety zone for the safe operations. However, the safety zone regulations for the newly developed weapons should be prepared since the existing guidelines do not provide any information concerning the reason for the safety zone. In this study, the outdoor launch tests were performed to collect the data such as noise, pressure and temperature of the back blast. An assessment method using data obtained from launch tests has been proposed to determine the safety zone. The safety zone has been determined with consideration for the following criteria: Impulse noise, temperature and pressure of the back blast and blast angle. As a results, new safety zones for them have been established for the recoilless weapon developed by ADD (Agency for Defense Development). We expect that this research can be used as a guideline for establishing a new safety zone regulation of similar weapon to be developed.
Development of Accident Model by Traffic Violation Type in Korea 4-legged Circular Intersections

This study deals with the traffic accident of circular intersections. The purpose of the study is to develop the accident models by traffic violation type. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to analyzing various factors that influence traffic accident and developing such the optimal models as Poisson and Negative binomial regression models. The main results are the followings. First, 4 negative binomial models which were statistically significant were developed. This was because the over-dispersion coefficients had a value greater than 1.96. Second, the common variables in these models were not adopted. The specific variables by model were analyzed to be traffic volume, conflicting ratio, number of circulatory lane, width of circulatory lane, number of traffic island by access road, number of reduction facility, feature of central island and crosswalk.
The Study on Improved Disaster Management System in Case of Large-scale Mass Casualties

When accidents that relate to a large numbers of people occur, such as disasters involving group tours by ship or aircraft, or large-scale chemical leakages, it is very important to know the personal identification of victims and to determine their locations and status. It is true that there will be serious damage or injury to people who engaged especially when information does not transfer properly or people get inaccurate one. In this study, therefore, we analysed the disaster response management system for rescued people of the Sewo ferry sinking accident. Based on the analysis we proposed to improve the real-time disaster management system with ICT(Information & Communication Technology).

In Korea for 20 years(1993-2012), total number and average annual number of oil spills were 6,608 cases and total volume and average annual volume of oils spilt were
, respectively. The annual number of oil spills and annual amount of oil spilt tended to decrease with the lapse of year in Korea. As oil transportation worldwide continues to increase, many communities are at risk of oil spill disasters and must anticipate and prepare for them. Factors that influence oil spill consequences are myriad and rage from the biophysical to the social. In this paper, we analysed the emergency response systems and recovery apparatuses for oil spill accident in marine and proposed a developed oil diffusion apparatus which can be used to initial response stage by crew, and to extend golden times. This system can be minimized casualties for rescued people in disaster.
