Fundamental Study on the Production of TiFe Hydrogen Alloy by the Reduction-Diffusion Process

For comparison, we used Ca and Mg as reducers to produce TiFe hydrogen stroage alloy from Fe and TiO
by the Reduction-Diffusion process. The results obtained were as follow. \circled1 Ca was found to be effective both for reduction and diffusion processes. Moreover, Ca oxide was easily removed in an NH
Cl solution after the reaction. \circled2 In the case of using Ca as a reducer, the Reduction-Diffusion process is considered to take place in the foiling three steps. First, TiO
is reduced to Ti by Ca over 100
. Second, the atomic Ti drifts in the Ca melt and meets Fe particles. Finally, the atomic Ti diffuses in to the Fe particles. \circled3 In the case of using Mg as a reducer, We found that the reduction reaction of TiO
went well. But the reduced Ti scarcely diffused into Fe particles. This was probably because no Mg melt was formed due to the high vapor pressure of Mg.
A Study on the Mechanism and Countermeasure of Electrostatic Discharge in Insulating Oil by Streaming Electrification

In this paper, it is studied the electrostatic discharge In Insulating oil for the purpose of the technical control of the streaming electrification resulted from the interface between an insulating liquid and a solid. The streaming current increases exponentially with flow rate and In region of lower than 50［
］but decreases at higher than the same temperature. The phenomena of electrostatic discharge appear at an interface between measuring tank and insulating oil when the seven sheets of gauzes are inserted in electrification apparatus. And those of partial or surface discharge are shown when eight sheets are inserted.
A Methodology of the Static Analysis for Scaffolding Structure

Accidents, especially fatal accidents in construction work are being not reduced, but increased, despite of more concerns of related authority and companies themselves. It is investigated that major reasons of which these accident increase are caused to set up wrong temporary structures : scaffolding with insufficient components or safety guards. Approximately 50% of falling accident, one of three major accidents； falling collapsing of structures or soil, accidents from heavy equipments, are due to defects of temporary structures. Therefore, technical standards for these temporary structures made by the ministry of labour in 1984, should be promptly revised because of its insufficient considerations for structural concepts. A method to effectively ensure the construction safety are shown through an experimental method, mathematical analysis structural planning against overturning and collapsing of scaffold-ing components, consideration of safety factor in loading, formulations of safety structure against falling or dropping from schaffolding.
A Study on the Techniques of Simulation Test in Automotive Braking System

In this study, the method of deciding simulation test conditions is developed by computer program compared to actual vehicle test as accurately as possible. These results of analytical test conditions are conformed by simulation test using the brake dynamometer by comparison with test results of actual vehicle. Results of simulation test by these analytical results show good agreement with the vehicle test results. The analytical simulation test conditions provide the input data to brake dynamometer which follows : - each test inertia corresponding to braking deceleration - test condition of input control : brake line pressure - test condition of output control : braking torque
A Development of Fire Protective Coating Based on Soluble Alkali Silicate

To increase fire proofing characteristics of protective coating based on soluble alkali silicate, silicate coatings were studied on thermal properties, IR spectroscopy, solubility and intumescence. Intumescence and solubility of the samples were dependent on the strength of cationic cross-links between polysilicate particles. The degree of intumescence and solubility decrease K-silicate > Na-silicate > Li-silicate in the order. Especially Si
crystalline regions were found to exist in Potassium silicate sample. Mixture of two kinds of silicate, for example, Lithium silicate when added to sodium silicate or potassium silicate was find to significantly reduce efflorescence and increase water resistance. This appears to be a result of stronger crosslinking between polysilicate particles by the small lithium cation.
Estimation of Flash Points of Pure Flammable Liquids -I. Alcohols-

The flash points of flammable liquids are a fundamental and important property relative to fire and explosion hazards. A new estimation method, based on statistics (mutiple regression analysis), is being developed for the prediction of flash points of pure flammable liquids by means of computer simulation. This method has been applied to alcohol liquids. The proposed method has proved to be the general method for predicting the flash points of alcohol liquids.
Extraction of Chromium (Vl) Son in Waste Water through the Liquid Surfactant Membrane with Open-Type Perforated Reciprocating-Plate Column

The objective of this study was to investigate the extraction of chromium(Vl) ion in waste water through the liquid surfactant membrane with open-type Perforated Reciprocating-Plate Column. Extraction experiments were conducted to measure the effect of flow characteristics of continuous and dispersed phase and stroke velocity, sodium hydroxide concentraction in internal aqueous phase, sulfuric acid concentraction in outer phase, and residence time distribution and measured extraction velocity. The result of experiments showed that extraction velocity of chromium ion was maximum when stroke velocity was 180 1/min and dispersion phase velocity was 30m11min, continuous phase velocity was 20m1/min. Extraction velocity of chromium ion increased with increasing difference of hydrogen ion concentraction of dispersion and continuous phase and column stage decreased.
A Study on the Crack Initiation from Double Edge Notch Tips by Ultrasonic Testing

This study was done by ultrasonic testing. The proves used in this study were 5Z10
10A70. The useful fatigue life of structural components is determined by the sum of the elapsed load cycles required to initiate a fatigue crack and to propagate the crack from subcritical size to critical dimensions. Thus, to predict the service life of many steel structures and to establish safe inspection intervals, an understanding of the Fatigue Crack Initiation and Fatigue Crack Propagation behavior in the steel is required. In the present study, the Fatigue Crack Initiation Life in SPS 5A steel was investigated by testing specimens having widely varying notch acuities. The variation in the notch acuity covered the range from notch root raidus 0.5mm to 2.5mm, and Fatigue Crack Initiation Life data were obtained in that range.
Development of Fire and Explosion Index Estimation Program for Risk Assessment in Chemical Processes

Recently, a large amount of flammable or explosive materials have been handled or stored in chemical industries. H the equipments fail or the materials release in consequence of operation errors, fire and explosion could occur to them. Thus, risk assessment using quantification of risks is very important when design of processes and modifications of installed processes are performed. The purpose of this study is to develop the program for fire and explosion index in order to quantify the expected damage of fire and explosion incidents in chemical plants, to identify equipment that would be likely to contribute to the creation or escalation of an incident, to comunicate the potential fire and explosion risk to management and to account of damage cost.
A Study on the Influence Residual Stresses on Fatigue Crack Growth Behaviors in the Butt Welded Plate

In this study, the purpose is to investigate the influence of initial residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behaviors after the distribution of initial residual stresses Is measured when the crack is growing from the compressive residual stresses field to the tensile residual stress field. Also, the Influence of the variation of residual stress distribution on the fatigue crack growth behaviors at the crack tip is studied when the initial crack li applied on base metal, weld metal and HAZ respectively.

A Comparative Study on the Methods of Consequence Estimation in Fire and Explosion Hazards

Many methods to assess hazards caused by the risks increased with the growth of petrochemical industry. The manual of International Atomic Energy Agency which was much more applied to quantitative analysis of the real situation and the CPQRA is introduced to verify the theoretical background of this manual. Than other methods, as a result, we can see that this manual, which is simple to use and requires a little information, shows similar results to those of calculation by numerical formula. Also, the program code of this manual was materialized and if it is possible to obtain adequate parameters to our circumstance, the manual will be quite useful in early risk analysis.
Ergonomic Design of Standard Wheelchair for Korean Adults

This study discusses a possible ergonomics application for adult wheelchair design in consideration of anthropometry, physical load, control ability, posture, subjective analysis, security and so on. Korean normal adults who ever used wheelchairs are examined. And anthropometric data and basic data to make standard wheelchair are provided.
