Song, Jichung ; Hwang, Seongyeon ; Lee, Byungwook ; Eom, Dongmyung ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 1~16
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.001
Objectives : Nomenclature for medical terminology is the most important point in traditional medical standardization. For example, standard Romanized nomenclature for acupuncture points, herbal medicines, prescriptions and classic books have been achieaved. However, studies on standard Romanized nomenclature for persons who was involved in traditional medicine are rare. Methods : Following up all articles in Journal of Korean Medical Classics[J. KMC], which have Romanized name for persons and analyzing problems of those. Results : There were several methods to write in Romanized character even to an unique and replaceable name. Conclusions : Romanized nomenclature for persons' name who were involved in traditional medicine as a terminology must have unique expression. So we suggest that authors to write articles have to use unique Romanized nomenclature for persons who were involved in traditional medicine and persons had lived in a certain country should be written in Romanized characters with their own languages.

Kim, Sang-Hyun ; Jang, Woo-Chang ; Baik, You-Sang ; Lyu, Jeong-Ah ; Jeong, Chang-Hyun ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 33~45
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.033
Objectives : Through the study on Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方), it would be expected to analyze Dokyeok(毒疫)'s characteristic and to comprehend how the changes in viewpoints of epidemic febrile disease were made. Methods : It has been done to analyze the original text of Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方), and to compare the theory of Onbyeongjobyeon(溫病條辨) associated with the signature symptom of Dokyeok(毒疫). Results : Heo Jun(許浚) experienced a specific epidemic disease called 'Dokyeok(毒疫)', on which he made observations and analyzed its features and wrote Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方). In Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方), 'Dokyeok(毒疫)' is characterized by rash[疹], its pathogenesis is warm temperature, thus its treatment principle is removing interior and exterior heat. The book's pragmatic perspective is highly appreciated, as HeoJun improved and solidified existing medical knowledge up to date. In addition, Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方) is significant in that it differentiated between macula[癍疹] and rash[疹], much earlier than the febrile disease school of the Qing dynasty. Conclusions : Between Byeokyeoksinbang(辟疫神方) and Onbyeongjobyeon(溫病條辨), there are differences in treatments and patterns of rash[疹]. Based on this, it will be able to compare each disease that is written in two books. And a study on comparing the development between epidemic febrile disease[瘟疫學] of the Joseon dynasty and febrile disease[溫病學] of the Qing dynasty will be carried out with a follow-up study.

A Study on Constitution Therapy Based on Hyeong-Gi Concept
Jeong, Hui-Seok ; Kim, Do-Hoon ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 67~85
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.067
Objectives : To find appropriate constitutional therapy by understanding Hyeong and Gi from the perspective that "Gi is inner position, and Hyeong is outer position, and Yang converts to Gi, Eum makes Hyeong(氣裏形表, 陽化氣 陰成形)". Methods : 1. Defined Hyeong(形)and Gi(氣)and studied Wonhyeong(圓形) and Banghyeong(方形), the shapes that are formed as a result of Gi-movement. 2. Used 'Hyeong-Gi' concept to analyze physiological and pathological phenomena; classifies parts of the body into Sasang by extrapolating from WonBang concept; and studied Sasangchejil. 3. Based on the above 1 and 2, studied medical direction of Sasangchejil written in Hwangjenaegyeongsomun Tongcheon Results : 1. Wonhyeong is the result of Yang(陽) movement, whereas Banghyeong is the result of Eum (陰) movement. 2. Hyeong(body) can be classified into Won(圓, circle) and Bang(方, square) or more specifically into Won of Won, Bang of Won, Won of Bang, Bang of Bang. Each corresponds to Taeyang(太陽), Soyang(少陽), Taeeum(太陰), and Soeum(少陰). 3. The constitutional therapy can be formulated by refering to "Tongcheon(通天)" and by taking into consideration that each Sasang constitution has a bias toward Mok(木), Hwa(火,) Gum(金), Su(水). Conclusions : Basic treatment for round shaped people needs to be focused on a cure of Boeum(補陰) and Bojeong(補精), whereas for angular shaped people, treatment should be about Bogi(補氣) and Boyang(補陽). Treatment for Taeyangin(太陽人) should be about strengthening Ganeum(肝陰) and reducing Paeyang(肺陽) and for Soyangin(少陽人), the treatment needs to be strengthening Sineum(腎陰) and diminish Biyang(脾陽). Taeeumin(太陰人) should receive a cure that reinforces Pyeyang(肺陽) and brings Ganeum(肝陰) down, whereas Soeumin(少陰人) should have a cure that strengthens Gi and increases Yang.
History of Symptom Discrimination based on Theory of Triple Energizers(三焦) before Tang Dynasty(唐代)
Jo, Hak-Jun ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 87~102
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.087
Objectives : I intended to find out the origin and development of symptom discrimination based on theory of triple energizers before Tang Dynasty(唐代). Methods : I extracted the topic-related contents from books in this era. After arraying them in a chronological order, I analyzed the materials. Results : The author in Zhong Zang Jing(中藏經) first mentioned that symptom of Huo Luan(霍亂) was deeply related with triple energizers. Ge Hong(葛洪) did not only come out with some symptoms and mechanisms for Shang Han(傷寒) and Za Bing(雜病), but also applied them to their usages for herb medicine. Chao Yuan Fang(巢元方) suggested its symptoms were more closely related with Shang Han and Za Bing than before. For the first time, Chao subdivided its symptoms to both cold-heat and weakness-strength sides. Sun Sai Miao(孫思邈) supplemented its discrimination invented by Chao(巢元方), adding more symptoms and prescriptions for triple energizers. Wang Tao(王燾) showed more prescriptions for triple energizers than before, and initially designed the discrimination for Huo Luan, diabetes(消渴), and epidemic Wen Bing(溫病). Conclusions : Before Tang dynasty, the symptom discrimination based on theory of triple energizers had been originated and developed for the purpose of repairing Za Bing, not just treating Wen Bing.
A Study on the Way of addition and subtraction in Sosokmyeongtang - Based on Euilimchwalyo and Dongeuibogam -
Song, Jichung ; Park, Jinho ; Eom, Dongmyung ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 103~114
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.103
Objectives : The publication year(1608) of Euilinchwalyo is very closed to the year(1610) of Dongeuibogam, so several researches indicate that Dongeuibogam was influenced by Euilimchwalyo. We, authors have recently focused on the way to quote books in Dongeuibogam and found particular aspects in the way of quotation between Euilimchwalyo and Dongeuibogam. Methods : 1. Comparing the contents of Sosokmyeongtang in quotation books between Euilimchwalyo and Dongeuibogam. 2. Tracing the origin of Sosokmyeongtang and comparing chief virtue, consist of herbal medicine, way of dose and making and the method of addition and subtraction in Sosokmyeongtang. Results : Beijiqianjiyaofang was the origin book that recorded Sosokmyeongtang but there was no methods of addition and subtraction. After Jin and Yuan dynasty, the books, which had Sosokmyeongtang, started to record the methods of addition and subtraction in Sosokmyeongtang. However, even though Euilinchwalyo also recorfed the methods of addition and subtraction in Sosokmyeongtang such as other medical books, Dongeuibogam didn't keep that way to document up. Conclusions : The fact that Dongeuibogam was influenced by Euilimchwalyo means 2 ways. The first is that Dongeuibogam was influenced by Euilimchwalyo directly. The second is that Heo Jun, who wrote Dongeuibogam, tried not to duplcate or follow Euilimchwalyo somehow.

Yang, Young-Kyu ; Jung, Hyuk-Sang ; Baik, You-Sang ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 115~145
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.115
Objectives : In Huangdineijing(黃帝內經), there are many uncertain terms to express body structures, for example, Yuk(肉, flesh). The purpose of this study is to define the meaning of Yuk(肉, flesh) and relevant terminologies. Methods : To define the meaning and origin of Yuk(肉) character and relevant terminologies, examples in Huangdineijing(黃帝內經), Seolmunhaeja(說文解字) and other important references are investigated. Results : Yuk(肉) character has etymologically meant meat, and afterwards it has got meaning of flesh. In the main two terms derived from Yuk, Giyuk(肌肉) means flesh, and Bunyuk(分肉) means muscles in anatomical knowledges. Also Yuk has been the most important etymological word that means body, among the five parts of body[五體], Geun(筋, tedndon and ligament), Maek(脈, blood vessel), Yuk(肉 flesh), Pi(皮, skin) and Gol(骨, bone) to contribute to making basic meanings of those characters. Conclusions : It is necessary to make clear the definitions of many Korean medical terminologies especially in anatomical knowledges to be helpful for systematic management of terminologies.

Ahn, Jin-Hee ; Jeong, Chang-Hyun ; Jang, Woo-Chang ; Baik, You-Sang ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 147~162
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.147
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate splenic constipation syndrome(脾約證) in Shanghanlun by comparing 179 & 247 provisions. Methods : Including Shanghanlun, several texts which contain Cheng Wu-ji, Wan Mi-zhai, Qian Huang, Zhu Gong, Fang You-zhi, Yu Jia-yan, Zhang Lu, Cheng Ying-mao, Zhang Xi-ju, Chen Xiu-yuan, Wu Qian, Xu Ling-tai, You Zai-jing, Zhu Dan-xi's opinion about the splenic constipation syndrome were chosen and comparative consideration was carried out. Results & Conclusions : The following conclusions could be drawn. 247 provisions in Shanghanlun is different from 179 provisions because the beginning of the each splenic constipation syndrome is different. The difference between 179 & 247 provisions are proved by comparing Mild Purgative Decoction which is used Taiyangyangming splenic constipation syndrome and Fructus Cannabis Pill which is used Dorsal pedal pulse splenic constipation syndrome. Cheng Wu-ji's opinion that 179 & 247 provisions is different is meaningful because he is first investigated the different beginning of the splenic constipation syndrome. Several annotator's opinion which oppose Cheng Wu-ji is majority and they set a high value on Jangbu(臟腑) factor. Several annotator's opinion which agree Cheng Wu-ji is minority and they set a high value on splenic constipation syndrome also begins from Taiyangbing. The concept of overlapping of Taiyangyangming is different from the concept of Taiyangyangming. Consequently 179 & 247 provisions has to be distinguished.
A Study on Analyzing the relationship of formulae with Comparing the components of formulae
Jang, Heewon ; Song, Jichung ; Eom, Dongmyung ;
Journal of Korean Medical classics, volume 28, issue 2, 2015, Pages 163~181
DOI : 10.14369/skmc.2015.28.2.163
Objectives : In order to select the key factors of formulae and to identify the relationship of formulae with comparing these factors. Methods : We selected the five key factors that the source, the name of formula, the efficacy, the constituent herbs, and the capacity of herbs. When we compared between two formulae with five key factors, there was 32 cases. So we investigated the example which is corresponded to each cases and analyzed the relationship of formulae. Results : Among the 32 cases, analyzed two formulae was same in 8 cases, altered from same formula in different ways in 14 cases, and different with each other in 20 cases. Conclusions : These five key factors play a decisive role to comparing formulae and analyzing the relationship of them. So these factors and the relationship of formulae would be considerated to construct formula ontology.
