Design and Implementation of the Smart Clicker for Active Learning

Clickers that are personal response systems are a technology used to promote active learning and most research on the benefits of using clickers has shown that students become engaged and enjoy using them. But, existing clickers consisting of hardware devices and aggregation software provide simple response and aggregation function and it costs a lot. In this paper, in order to resolve the limitation of the existing clickers, we've designed and implemented the Smart Clicker consisting of a smartphone application for students and a web application & a MFC program for professors. Students can answer professor's questions with O/X or numbers or text and even ask questions with text messaging by using Smart Clicker in the classroom. Professors can see students' answers or questions immediately and check up students' response participation rate on the web page. Besides, the Smart Clicker will help professors actively engage students during the entire class period and gauge their level of understanding of the material being presented, and provide prompt feedback to student questions. As a result, we expect that quality of education will be increased.
Teaching Assistant System using Computer Vision

In this paper, a teaching assistant system using computer vision is presented. Using the proposed system, lecturers can utilize various lecture contents such as lecture notes and related video clips easily and seamlessly. In order to do transition between different lecture contents and control multimedia contents, lecturers just draw pre-defined symbols on the board without pausing the class. In the proposed teaching assistant system, a feature descriptor, so called shape context, is used for recognizing the pre-defined symbols successfully.
Case Study on the Development and Use of Technical Training Contents using Virtual Reality

As the IT technology evolves, virtual reality technology has been developed so fast. Studies of virtual reality technology in various fields have been conducted. There are lots of applications of virtual reality such as education, military, medical, arts, entertainment, and so on. In this research, we applied virtual reality technology to the technical education, and developed various kinds of educational contents using virtual reality. We classified virtual contents into several categories and analyzed the properties and effects, and verified the educational effects of virtual training through the case analysis.
A Case Study on Vocational Education & Training for the Youth Employment Enhancement : Focused on Analysis of Performance Indicator in Youth Employment Academy

Youth employment academy program focuses on resolving the job mismatch of youth unemployment through industry oriented human resource development for which company oriented capacity building program for graduate-to-be and graduate is supported. One of the major characteristics of this program is to use the M-to-M model with common skills for companies of same type of business. The operation organization in youth employment academy is supposed to be evaluated by the final employment rate after 1 year and 6 months since start of the program. So performance indicator for the operation organization was developed which means a kind of mid-term evaluation. In this research, the validity of the performance indicator is discussed. The correlations between the performance indicator and the performance evaluation, between the performance evaluation and the final employment rate, and between the performance indicator and the final employment rate are analyzed.
The Roles of IPP Professor for Successful Operations of IPP System : Based on KOREATECH Case Study

In this paper, we suggest the roles of IPP (Industry Professional Practice) professor that are necessary for efficient and systematic operation and management of IPP system, which has been implemented by KOREATECH recently under the goal of nurturing industry-oriented talents with practical skills, based on the analysis of actual operational practices of advanced overseas universities and the IPP experiences for 2 years. The roles of IPP professor are largely divided into the following three: IPP manager; student career counselor; educator of IPP educational program. During the initial stage of IPP system, the role of IPP manager is most significant. However, as the system is systematically managed and operated, the role of IPP manager gradually decreases, and the role of career counselor becomes more important. Since IPP system is an educational program that gives credits, IPP professor should also perform the role of educator, including designing experiential learning curriculum and evaluation on educational goal accomplishment.
A Study on Korean Dual System: K-Dual System

In this paper, we proposed a new Korean Dual system, K-Dual System, and discussed the concepts and details about three sub-models of the system, IPP, W3 and corporate university models. Propose K-Dual system is a new and unique educational model that combines academic study and industrial work in order to solve the various problems of existing work-study parallel educational systems in Korea. K-Dual System has two tracks, Academic and Vocational tracks. Academic track has a long-term field experience training program, IPP program. On the other hands, Vocational track can be divided into two sub-models and those are
and corporate university. Finally, we summarized several key points for the successful setup and operation of K-Dual system.
A Study of Communication Education of Engineering Undergraduates

The purpose of this study is to propose education program development models for improving communication competencies of engineering undergraduates in Korea based on practical research with empirical data on engineering undergraduates communication abilities. This study can help many universities to develop communication curriculum for undergraduates in engineering. Because of practical research on 355 engineering undergraduates empirical data, this study can provide new guideline of teaching communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Future research could examine and develop more possibilities and limitations of these studies through expansion of research to the many universities and students.
Online Education System for Work Based Learning Dual System

The vicious cycle of over-education has been made. That is, higher education enrollment rate is high, but university graduate employment rate is low. To eliminate this cycle and relieve youth unemployment and young people to enter the labor market early, dual education and training system is needed. This dual system can support working and learning in parallel. So, worker can get the opportunity pre-employment and post-learning and improve his/her job skills. Recent MOOC (Massive Open On-line Course), a new form of online education system, has emerged. MOOC combines education, entertainment and social networking, and emphasize the interaction between faculty and student and between students. The educational contents of MOOC are available free of charge. Using newly changed online education environments we can effectively provide knowledge and skills. In technology and engineering education hands-on training is necessary. In order to support work based learning dual system for worker to work and learn in parallel, we should build the multi-learning system to combine the online education and campus hands-on practice.
Design of Driver License Simulation Model Using 3D Graphics

Recently the construction of simulation environment is an important issue in all fields. In case of the training for operating machines such as airplanes or spaceships which cause a huge cost, simulators could be helpful to reduce the costs and training efforts by simulating real situations. When people get a driver's license, too many trainees have to wait for their turns because of the limited number of cars and the small space of training sites. To solve this problem, we have designed and developed the basic design for the simulators. We suggest the Computer 3D Simulation Model for a driver's practice. The concept of this simulator is from a 3D Racing-game which suits for a driving exercise. We provide users with handle-controlled simulation settings to let users feel reality as if they drive in real through this simulator. We also use a 'force-feedback' system which gives handle vibration when users collide against obstacles or exceed lanes. Users can be absorbed in the simulation program and feel the sense of the real. This paper is the study about modeling the driving exercise model of 'computer 3D simulation', and producing and utilizing the simulator through this modeling.
Teaching differential equations based on pseudo-STEM

In this paper we investigate the history of the education based on STEM which is one of the topics of teaching method of Mathematics and Science oriented to the student, Hand-on education be applying partly to college education and the case of the education of the subject "Mathematics and Science for Engineering" of Japan's college. The educational method based on STEM make the student to recognize by themselves the necessity of the mathematics in the study of the technological and engineering problem, and furthermore draw a conclusion which is the proper method to change from passive to positive the study attitude for the mathematics. But it is more or less unreasonable to apply directly to college education with not physical fusion but chemical fusion of S (science), T (technology), E (engineering) and M (mathematics). Therefore we make themselves to find T and E considered at graduation works. We propose Pseudo-STEM teaching method linking this recognition obtained through self-activity to the mathematics subject.
