Variable Control in Inductive Inference for Engineering Education

The variable control in the inductive inference for the confirmation and verification when the experimental data are collected is studied by applying the principle of probability inference. The control in engineering experiments is to protect any effect by of intervening variable except primary independent variable on the dependent variable. By the special condition the possibility for developing a phenomenon will be maximized; otherwise, by the extraneous condition the possibility for developing a phenomenon will be minimized. By doing so, the control may provide insurance for the causal relationship between the certain prior event (independent variable) and the post-event (the dependent variable). Some experiments by using both elliptical trainer and tread mill under the variable control are performed in order to find the relations between the energy expenditure, the respiratory exchange ratio (RER), and the heart rate (HR) against the exercise speed.
A Case Study on Practical Engineering Education: Medicine Vending Machine

The purpose of this research is to introduce a case study on application of practical engineering. Topic of the study is a medicine vending machine which consists of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), DC motor, switch, photo sensor and so on. In order to design and manufacture of the device, a lot of subjects which have learned during school year are reviewed and practiced. Especially, not only internal process but mechanical mechanism can be understood by organizing hardware and software of all parts. Also, several ideas like user made supply or exact counting are suggested for high performance. From this case study, students can increase their originality and adaptability for related industry. Also, the technique can be initiated industry if needed.
A Study on the Educational Effect from a Case of Application Development to Prevent Loss of One's Belongings

Rapidly developing mobile internet technology and extensive service of smart phones have led to growing use of mobile applications. It is natural that software developers and IT-related students develop a variety of applications that can be used for everyday life. The present paper reports a case of developing such an application that was developed in a capstone design course of Department of Computer Science at Namseoul University. This so-called 'Application for Prevention of Loss of One's Belongings' was designed to let students learn a set of tools based on Android operation system. This app can prevent smart phone users from losing their belongings using an alarm. The educational effect from the process of developing this application is also discussed.
A Study on the Implementation of Wireless Searching Robot through the Capstone design courses

In this study, there is a modeling for the procedure and operational method of the project based capstone design and related products which are a certificate of graduate qualification, and those results were evaluated by self-review and the performance assessment. Processing of research based on wireless searching robot is described according to the model. Before one semester by the end of to the assessment, the design thesis of capstone results was fixed to 18 groups with two people in each group. 13 teams out of 18 teams are satisfied the criteria of evaluation, and they all got a grade over 60 points and the other teams are not qualified at the first stage of final judgment. The total team mean average is 71.79. The research based on wireless searching robot was earned the highest average point among the other teams which is 96.1.

Intelligence Fusion cluster is a interdisciplinary program which consists of school of electrical, electronics, and communication, school of computer science and engineering, school of architecture and architectural engineering, and department of industrial design engineering. To make an effective management plan for intelligence fusion cluster, we surveyed students and faculty members who belong to the cluster. A management plan was derived based on this survey. The plan was presented in two ways: by curriculum improvement and research vitalization.
Implementation of Line Scan Camera based Training Equipment for Technical Training of Automated Visual Inspection System

The automated visual inspection system (machine vision system) for quality assurance is important factory automation equipment in the manufacturing industries, such as display, semiconductor, etc. There is a lot of demand for the machine vision engineers. However, there are no technical training courses for machine vision technologies in vocational schools, colleges and universities. In this paper, we present the implementation of line scan camera based equipment for technical training of the automated visual inspection system. The training system consists of the X-Y stage which is widely used in machine vision industries and its variable image resolution are set to
. Additionally, this training system can attach the industrial illumination, either the direct illuminator or coaxial illuminator, for verifying the effect of illuminations. This means that the trainee can have a practical training in various equipment conditions and the training system is similar to the automated visual inspection system in industries.
Flow Experience through PLC Practice

It is known that the ability and habit to "flow" could be one of the important indices to evaluate one's life. And the flow experience of university students who are in the important time transferring from the adolescence to the initial adult period will give an important effect firstly to study one's major and map out one's career path, finally to spread out the high quality life. This study investigated the university students who are in School of Mechatronic Engineering to experience the flow in the learning of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) practice. For this, the flow condition was arranged. And in order to experience the flow in the learning of PLC, lecture plan was established, studying environment was changed and level of difficulty was controlled. Then the implications of the flow were explored by a 5-point Likert scale survey performed to 90 students.
Case Study on Engineering Clinic Operation Based on Industry Needs

A case study on engineering clinic operation based on industry needs is introduced. Engineering clinic is a course that students and professor solve bottleneck techniques provided from an industry. The industry presents the bottleneck techniques to the professor and the professor plans a course that the students learn how to solve them, and the students train field adaptability by solving them. From the course evaluation of the engineering clinic, the students give high scores to the awareness of the course objectives, the performance period, the smooth communication, the application and understanding of major, the problem solving skill, the cooperation ability, the opportunity of carrier choice, and the course recommendation. Two semesters give higher satisfaction to the students than one semester because two semesters are long enough to solve the bottleneck techniques provided from the industry. It gives good opportunity that the students get a job through completing the course.
Analysis of the Effectiveness of KOREATECH IPP Program: Focusing on the Main Operation of 2013

KOREATECH has introduced a long-term co-op program called IPP (Industry Professional Practice) to address problems in engineering education of Korea since 2012. In order to evaluate and improve the IPP program, the IPP Center of KOREATECH has developed a comprehensive performance evaluation scheme on the basis of the Kirkpatrick's four stage performance evaluation model for training programs. This study aimed to analyze student questionnaire survey data from the IPP performance evaluation scheme, which was acquired before and after IPP terms in 2013 and measured students' perceptions on the five aspects of major competencies, non-major competencies, perception of and satisfaction with the IPP program and attitudes to occupation. The findings showed that the IPP program was effective to a certain degree at enhancing non-major competencies and attitudes to occupation of students. Participating students were quite satisfied with their jobs and companies. In the last part, several directions for improving the effectiveness of the IPP program were discussed.
Operation and Analysis of field-oriented training to enforce the field education

Nowadays, technologies are changing so fast as due to the advancement of industrial structure, and those situations require the change in the curriculum and educational method of vocational high schools. To satisfy those requirements, field-oriented training program was designed and operated. In this research, we evaluated and analyzed short medium and long term field-oriented training program operated by KOREATECH Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) in 2013. Evaluation results shows that the satisfaction about field-oriented training is very high, and we propose improvement scheme in order that the field-oriented training can be established as a proper program to cope with the changing industry and technologies.
