A Study on Materialism of University Students
Song, Soon ; Shin, Hyoun-Shill ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 223~235
The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of the materialism of university students. The data were collected for 331 university students. The data were analyzed by the package of SPSS program. The methods of analyses included basic descriptive categorical analysis (frequencies, means, percentages) as well as t-test, one way ANOVA, and multiple regressions. To summarize major findings from the analysis: (1) A significant difference was found in the materialism of university students by the socio-economic variables such as the amount of pocket money. (2) A significant difference was found in the materialism of university students by more self-esteem than life satisfaction. (3) A significant difference was found in the materialism of university students by parent's materialism and competitive achievement pressure. (4) According to the multiple regression analysis, it was found that the materialism of university students was influenced by the order of self-esteem, parent's materialism and competitive achievement pressure.
Differences in Attitudes and Behaviors toward Money of the College Students after and before IMF Economic Crisis
Kim, Jung-Hoon ; Dong, Hwan-Suk ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 237~247
The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes and behaviors toward money among college students after and before IMF economic crisis. The subject of investigation consists of 389 students in the year of 1995 and 112 students in the year of 2000 in Wonkwang university. The major findings are as follows: 1) The exploratory factor analysis of money attitudes and behaviors scale drew four factors such as; power, obsession, money management and pleasure. 2) Male students have a tendency more likely than females not only to look upon money as power but also to have an obsession before IMF economic crisis. But gender differences were disappeared after. 3) In comparison of the before and after IMF economic crisis, the behavior value in reference to money is generally increased. The social power and the cognitive attitude like an obsessional increased smaller than that of a practical such as money management or pleasure. The pleasure is raised the largest. 4) The level of attitudes and behavior for money management is raised the most for female students while, the value of the pleasure has the greatest increase for male students rate.
Pro-environmental Consumer and Environmentally Conscious Citizen Behavior Tendency of University Students in Cheongju
Kim, In-Sook ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 249~262
This paper was written to find the tendency of pro-environmental consumer behavior and environmentally conscious citizen behavior of university students. The difference between two behavioral tendencies were existed and variables influenced on those tendencies each other. The results were as follows: 1. The pro-environmental consumer behavior of university students was consisted of five tendencies, such as practice in life, environment preservation, environment consideration, patience in uncomfortableness and diversity in circumstances. 2. The environmentally conscious citizen behavior of University students were consisted of four tendencies, such as environment contamination, self-centered, resource economy, pollution reduction. 3. The pro-environmental consumer behavior tendencies of university students were inconsistent with those of environmentally conscious citizen behavior. 4. The variables influenced on those tendencies were sex, concern in environment problem and living condition.
A Research on the Preference to Textiles for Shirts of College Students
Kim, Hee-Sook ; Na, Mi-Hee ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 263~271
This research was designed to investigate the preference to textiles for shirts of college students. 105 subjects majored in fashion design were surveyed and SPSS WIN 11.0 program was used for statistical analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Design was the primary factor in purchasing a clothing and college students considered color and texture as important factors for clothing materials. 2. There were significant differences in preference to textiles for winter shirts, especially grade and resident area. 3. College students preferred plain wool two and two check foremost as a textile for spring and fall. 4. Plain cotton poplin was the most preferred material for summer. 5. Twill cotton drill was the most preferred textile for winter. 6. Textiles for winter were thicker and heavier than others and natural fiber were preferred such as cotton and wool. 7. Plain weave was preferred for spring. fall and summer, and twill weave for winter. 8. College students preferred plain texture foremost and blue shaded light color was preferred for spring. fall and summer and brown shaded dark color was for winter.

Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 273~285
Three materials for sport underwear were manufactured by order for study, and among them, suitable material in order to perform an experiment on the effect of wearing was adopted. The results are as follows: The result of wearing an experimental clothes for sports manufactured as a foundation-type underwear for sports showed that if the same compositional materials were applied, laminating material had higher rate than that of others in the amount of sweat. Concerning relative humidity in clothes and the amount of sweat absorbed in clothes among the two kinds of materials which were produced by laminate, material 2(nylon+modal) was statistically exerts higher influence on the amount of sweat. The humidity in clothes keeps the optimal condition of 59.8%, and breast part showed the highest relative humidity. The material 2(nylon+modal) showed the highest comfortableness, the sense of warmth, humidity and voluminousness, and the sense of pressure. Follow-up survey revealed that in case of material 2, higher amount of sweat than that of the group objects in its early phase, and the amount of sweat varies from individuals. The temperature in clothes of folded parts of experimental clothes and maximum surface temperature was equivalent to that of average skin. With the lapse of time, the weight decreased of 11.03% in maximum, and 3.12% in minimum. The amount of change in the girth was greater in part of body frame than that of limbs, and especially, navel and waist part showed high decrease, and upper breast, breast and the largest part of abdomen showed relatively low decrease. The above experiment revealed that materials for suitable to the underwear for sports for loss of weight by an exercise should be made of doubled-nylon and modal, along with the laminate processing, which heightens the amount of sweat. Thus, wearing an experimental wear gave satisfaction in the view of the beauty of appearance as it did not discharge flowing secretion to the outside at the time of exercise.
Creative Method of Post-modernism Expressed in Modern Fashion
Lee, Eun-Kyung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 287~299
Post-modernism exists with different shapes in overall cultural phenomena. Among the creative methods of composing post-modernism, there are representation, parody, plural coding, trans avant-garde etc. Summing up the influence of creative method of post-modernism on modem fashion led to the following results. 1. The phenomenon appears that value and valuelessness are easily reversed, and things with historical and traditional meanings are being ignored. 2. The boundary between higher culture and public culture is being disorganized, and mixed imitation phenomenon ignoring the differences between male and female is emerging 3. The mental and historial aspects in fashion pattern are highly thought of and the trend to understand human body from the various angles emerges. 4. In the consumer-oriented society, it appears in the form of meanings to achieve the self-achievement in individual life, to express one's idea and desire in the esthetical point of views. 5. It shows that through arranging the striking things and the distorted things, it takes the compromised method of re-appreciating the existing ideas. The phenomena in the post-modernism occurring in fashion design forced the concept of the uniformed existing fashion to be changed, creating a various fashions. That can just be called the dehumanization trend in the era of post-modernism, which is the most important formative feature in modern fashion.
Cognizance of Size and Preference Design of Hats of College Students
Lee, Jin-Hee ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 301~306
The purpose of this research is to provide basic data by which more suitable hats manufacturing can be possible. The method for this research was to ask male and female college students what their favorite design and size are by the questionnaire. Data were collected from 383 college students in Seoul, Iksan. Statistical tests such as descriptive analysis, Crosstabs, F-test, Duncan test, were used to analyze the data. The conclusion which gotten through this process is that, first of all, their favorite design is Apollo cap, and there is no difference between male and female college students. Then, It also appeared that most of them didn't know their own hat size, but responded that their hats are suitable for their heads, it means that they are contented with their hats. Yet, those positive responses are, in some part, due to the insufficiency of the questions that can point out negative responses.

Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 11, issue 3, 2002, Pages 307~319
We studied on the development of clothing pressure measurement system for wear comfort of foundations(girdle, brassiere, all-in-one). Measurements of clothing pressure were made on subjects wearing girdles, brassieres, all-in-ones of several type(material, size) using by CPMS(clothing pressure measurement system: Tech-Storm. Co). Wearing experiments have been carried out using nine women in the twenties and six women in the forties. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The clothing pressure applied by girdle was higher in the hard type than the soft type by
, also recorded a high clothing pressure at points of waist band line and thigh lateral. 2. Clothing pressure of brassiere with wire was high at the point of underbust line and shoulder strap. Pressure for 40s showed higher than 20s by
. 3. The pressures of abdominal part applied by both of girdle and all-in-one were much greater than those of girdle or all-in-one. 4. We demonstrated the adaptability and conformity of the CPMS by inquiring into the clothing pressure of various foundations.
