Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 883~898
This study was to find out the demand for the education of elder marital couples to improve their relationship. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Marital satisfaction was affected by four elements such as confidence and affinity, mutual respect, communication, and cohesion. Each element showed significant differences by the socio-demographic variables. Out of these variables, age, academic career, health, occupation, and salary showed significant difference in all 4 elements affecting the marital satisfaction. 2. The couples with shorter marriage period, with religion, and belonging to a nuclear family, and doing social activities were recognized the necessity of education highly. 3. The higher the confidence and affinity, and cohesion between couple, the higher the demand for education program. The lower the score of communication between couple, they participated more often in the educational program. For the improvement of confidence and affinity between couple, the educational program with partners is necessary.
A study on the perception and expectation of Parent about Kindergarten Education
Shin, Kui-Soon ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 899~913
The purpose of the study is to analyze the perception and expectation made by parents, regarding the goal, methods and management of kindergarten education. The study is designed to identify social needs for the early childhood education and to produce some important information necessary for the development of education programs for kindergarteners and for the management of a kindergarten. As subjects of the study, 623 mothers of kindergartens were sampled from kindergartens. The researcher constructed a questionnaire of multiple-choice type for surveying opinions of the subjects, based on the analysis of curriculum materials published by Korean Ministry of Education. In data analysis, frequency of response on each item of the questionnaire was tabulated, and chi-square test was applied for testing the difference between independent samples. The results of the study are summarized as followings: First, parents feel kindergarten education necessary because 'interaction with peers' itself must be an important condition for socialization of younger children. For an 'ideal personality' to be pursued in kindergarten education, parents place 'moral personality' in the first priority.' And for educational objective of kindergarten they select 'development of cooperative attitude' as the most important one. Second, 'play method' is emphasized by parents as the most desirable educational method for kindergartener. Third, they think it is necessary for parents to participate in the management of kindergarten. And they also feel that parents of kindergartener should be educated on the early childhood education. Fourth, parents emphasize that the early childhood education should be integrated into a public educational system in order to provide equal educational opportunity for all preschoolers.
A Study of Accreditation of Child Care Centers and Liberation of Child Care Service Tuition based on the Perspective of Economics
Song, Seung-Min ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 915~924
In this study, two controversial Child Care Policies will be discussed based on the perspective of Economics: Accreditation of Child Care Centers and Liberation of Child Care Service Tuition. Liberation of Child Care Service Tuition is to provide parents and children with exact quality which they want at a differentiated price. Accreditation of Child Care Center is to enhance the quality of child care service by evaluating the quality of centers and grading centers into three classes. This study concludes that success or failure of the policies mostly depend on the investment capability of the government to increase the supply of child care centers. Employing these two policies requires the child care rate more than certain level and more financial investment from the government since the responsibility of providing child care services relies mostly on the government in Korea.

Chyung, Yun-Joo ; Lee, Ju-Lie ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 947~959
This study examined (1) whether romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection perceived by college students is related to their psychological adjustment indicated by hostility/aggression, dependency, negative self-esteem, negative self-competence, emotional unresponsiveness, emotional instability, and negative world view; (2) whether parents' behavioral control in childhood and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control perceived by college students are related to their psychological adjustment; (3) how parents' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection in childhood perceived by college students are related with each other; and (4) how romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection perceived by college students are related with each other. The subjects were 163 college students enrolled in universities located in Seoul or Kyungki-do in Korea. The results indicated that college students' perceptions of their romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection are related to their psychological adjustment, that college students' perceptions of their parents' behavioral control and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control are related to their psychological adjustment, and that college students' perceptions of parents' behavioral control are related to their perceptions of parents' hostility/aggression, indifference, and rejection and the results were the same for the romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection.
Comparative Study on English Proficiency of Children of ESL(English as a Second Language) & EFL(English as Foreign Language) Learning Programs
Yoon, Eu-Gene ; Chong, Young-Sook ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 961~972
The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement of English proficiency of children in the ESL and EFL learning style classrooms through the experiment method. The results of this research are as follows: first, the scores of listening and speaking and the perception of alphabets in the ESL program are higher than that in the EFL program. This means that learning in the ESL style classroom is the better way to improve English skills than in the EFL style classroom, which is common in Korea. Second, there is no difference in the English listening and speaking skills and the perception of the English alphabets between the two gender groups in the ESL & EFL style classrooms. These results suggest that the target language may be used in the English classrooms by the teachers and the students with the materials, books, and equipment are English. Teachers are expected to be in charge of playing decisive roles as demonstrators of speech, models and correctors of pronunciation and providers of materials including TV, VCR, CD players, and cassette recorders, etc.
A study on the impulsive purchase behavior of college consumers
Kim, Hyo-Jung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 973~983
This study examined the practice of the impulsive purchase and the factors influencing it among college consumers. The data were collected from 481 college students in Busan and Gyeongnam areas through a self-administered questionnaire. Frequencies, Cronbach's alpha, factor analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted by SPSS Windows. The results from this study were as follows: First, the level of the impulsive purchase of college consumers was not that high. Second, as a result of regression analysis for the group of the high level of impulsive purchase, the allowance amount, price-discount factor, credit card use, psychological factor, and attitudes towards money (ostentatious way, and symbol of success), affected the impulsive purchase. These results suggest that consumer education regarding values about money and strategies to resist impulsive purchase should be conducted at home and in school.
A Study of Impulse-Buying and Psychological Characteristics of Female College students by Body Cathexis and Clothing Attitude
Park, Jeong-Eun ; Jeong, Su-Jin ; Kang, Kyung-Ja ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 985~994
The objective of this study was to investigate differences in clothing behavior and individual characteristics of female college students by their body cathexis and clothing attitude. The college students selected by random sampling were classified into four groups by their body cathexis and clothing attitude: positive congruity(positive body cathexis and clothing attitude, G1), positive incongruity(negative body cathexis and positive clothing attitude, G2), negative congruity(negative body cathexis and clothing attitude, G3), negative incongruity(positive body cathexis and negative clothing attitude, G4). The results were as follows: G1 was high in both public and personal self-esteem and self-image, extroverted, refined and impulsive. G2 were fashion opinion leaders, highly uneasy about society, highly impulsive, modem, peculiar, creative and introspective. G3 was highly uneasy about society, low in self-esteem, and less impulsive. G4 was low in both public self-esteem and fashion innovation, and avoided impulsive buying.

Kim, Jeam-Hae ; Lee, Young-Ju ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 995~1006
The purpose of this study was to investigate the wearing sensation and satisfaction of high school girls' winter uniform jackets according to the fabrics and the shapes. The fabrics were divided into four parts of stretch and non-stretch woven fabrics. The shapes were divided into two parts of tight and general types. The results were as followings: 1. In the aspect of the appearance evaluation for the uniform jackets, silhouette and length item showed significant differences in fabric and shape. The non-stretch woven fabric and tight type was more satisfying than the stretch fabric and general type because its silhouette and length were shorter and fitter than the stretch one and general type. The jackets of non-stretch woven fabric of tight type were evaluated as the thinnest in the silhouette and were evaluated as the shortest in the length. Conversely, the jackets of stretch woven fabric of general type were evaluated as the thickest and longest. 2. As for the wearing sensation of school uniform jacket, all test items showed significant differences in fabric and shape. The stretch fabric and general type was more satisfying than the non-stretch woven fabric and tight type because the jacket of stretch fabric and general type was felt more comfortable in activities, and wearing. Accordingly, the appearance evaluation for uniforms' jacket is in sharp contrast with that of wearing sensation.

The survey was conducted on 600(male 297, female 303) high school students located in Choongnam and Jeollabukdo province. The statistical analysis was done with SPSS 11.0 for Windows Program to calculate percentile, mean and standard deviation. Also, the significance of the data was verified by Factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan' multiple range test. The results of this research were as follows: The results of analysing the factors to the response attitude toward appearance emerged four factors (sexual attractiveness, fashion pursuit, self-expression, aesthetic, and modesty). Gender had significant effects on the awareness of gender equality and clothing attitude of high school students. Gender equality awareness of high school students had an effects on clothing attitude. A group with high awareness score of gender equality showed high score in clothing attitude, fashion pursuit, self-expression, and aesthetic. A group with low awareness of gender equality, however, showed high in clothing attitude, sexual attractiveness and modesty.
Customer Orientation and Sales Training
Park, Kwang-Hee ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 1017~1025
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship between customer orientation and sales training. Data were obtained from 297 apparel salespeople working at six department stores in Daegu. Statistics used for data analysis were frequency, factor analysis, correlation, and t-test. The respondents were classified into 3 groups; high, medium, and low customer-oriented groups based on the mean score of customer orientation, and the high and the low were compared in training contents and educational methods. Based on factor analysis, four factors were extracted from 27 items of training content. Two of four factors were significantly correlated with customer orientation. The regression analysis showed that customer service and duration of work had significant effects on customer orientation. Also, the results were found that there were significant differences between the high and the low customer-oriented group in training contents which salespeople want to have in the future. However, there were not significant differences between the two groups in educational methods.

Third, the result of the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to the vital statistics was different with scholarship, job, and employer. Forth, the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to sex role stereotype was different with 'pursuit of fashion,' 'pursuit of sense,' 'secession of sex role.' Especially, 'pursuit of fashion' and 'pursuit of sense' was importantly understood with the factor of feminization in men's fashion in Androginy type.
Effect of Aging on Physicochemical and Pasting Properties of Nonwaxy Rice Flour and its Starch
Kim, Wan-Soo ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 1037~1046
Using three consecutive years' harvested rices and their starches isolated from rice flours by alkaline method, it was found that no significant aging effect on rice flour and starch was observed based on following results. Proximate data of flours or starches showed in similarity, except high level of crude fat in rice flour and rice starch harvested in 2002. In SEM, the surface of aged rice flour had slightly layered shape due to possible abrasion during storage, and that of aged starch showed more smooth and less rigid polygonal shape. X-ray diffraction patterns of flours and starches were all A type, and crystallinity of rice starch harvested in 2000 had the smallest. From tristimulus colorimetry (Hunterlab Color), total color difference (
E) calculated from L, a, and b gave less color difference with the darkest in 2002 harvested one among flours and the lightest in 2001 one among starches. WBCs of both 2002 rice flour and starch were the lowest among samples studied. At 80
, swelling power and solubility of rice starches harvested in 2000, 2001 and 2002 were 14.35, 9.75; 14.04, 9.6; and 12.49, 8.82, respectively. The highest peak viscosities measured by RVA were shown both in 2001 rice flour and in its starch. Starch and milled rice flour harvested in 2000 had higher hydrolytic
-amylase, compared to other flour and starch samples.
The life style and dwelling preferences of the university students
LIM, Hi-Kyung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 14, issue 6, 2005, Pages 1047~1058
The objective of this research is an investigation and analysis of life style and preference trend for dwelling for 450 university students. The major findings are as follows: (1) The life style is classified into 3 categories according to the priority of fashion and privacy, brand and social relationship, and family and domesticity. Women give priority to fashion and privacy as well as family and domesticity than men do. (2) Dwelling awareness is grouped into 3; one for pursuing the value of asset, another with the inclination to residential transition and the other for preferring for a detached house. Women have a stronger inclination to the economical value of house and prefers to live in the big city than men do. (3) As a factor affecting the dwelling preference, men give priority to the exterior condition such as environment, but women do the interior condition like the size of house. Men and Women showed various preferences for housing style such as detached house, villa, apartment and commercial complex dwelling, which is accord with the present housing style.
