Lee, Kang-Yi ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 3, 2007, Pages 455~463
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.3.455
The purpose of this study was to compare Korean mothers' and fathers' reactions to their children's negative emotions. The survey with questionnaire was performed with 179 mothers and 179 fathers of children aged three to five-years-old from three child care centers in Seoul and Kyoungki Province. Parental emotion-related practices regarding children's negative emotions were assessed with an adaptation of the CCNES-R(Cortes, 2002), and parental reactions were categorized as problem-focused, emotion-focused, expressive encouragement, emotion-teaching, punitive, parental distress and minimizing. The main results were as follows. First, Korean mothers and fathers, in general, used more positive reactions than negative reactions when their children showed negative emotions, in particular problem-focused reactions were mostly used. In addition, Korean mothers were significantly higher than fathers on problem-focused and emotion-teaching reactions. Second, Korean mothers' and fathers' reactions to their children's negative emotions were significantly different depending on the educational level of mothers, mothers' job and fathers' job. But there was no significant differences in parent's reactions according to children's sex and age. The findings in this study provide implication for an association between parent's reactions to children's negative emotions and parent's socioeconomic background.

Park, Byung-Kum ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 3, 2007, Pages 505~522
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.3.505
This study examined the effects of eco-system factors on adolescents' suicidal ideation and whether self-esteem and depression mediate in the process to provide theoretical basis for prevention and treatment for problems of adolescents who have suicidal ideation. 2,088 high school students were asked to complete self-administering questionnaires on eco-system factors and adolescents' suicidal ideation. Data were analyzed with frequencies, t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe ad-hoc test, correlation analysis using SPSS 12.0 program and AMOS 5.0 program. Study results were ; First, adolescents' suicidal ideation showed significant differences according to their gender, socio-economic financial status, family structure, and the type of school they attended. Second, self-esteem and depression were proved to have significant mediating effect. Child abuse victimization, subjective school achievement and influence of media coverage of celebrity suicide were most important variables which influenced adolescents' suicidal ideation. These results reinforce importance of understanding adolescents' suicidal ideation with eco-system perspective. Moreover, prevention programs for adolescents' suicide require differentiated strategies and tactics according to the target group characteristics.

DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.3.587
There are many students who modify their uniforms and wear fashion accessories to pursue their individualities. The objectives of this research were to identify school uniform modification and fashion accessory wearing behavior of high school students. The results were as follows; 1. High school students considered that the uniform was desirable because the uniform showed identity best, but many students complained that the uniform was uncomfortable in activity. The most accessory used for the uniform was the cellular phone handle. 2. The uniform modification behavior was highly distinguishable at the coeducational school, the vocational school, and the art or physical school. They modified their uniform to pursuit slim and individuality. The uniform modification was for the beauty aspect more rather than practical aspect of uniform, and was proportional to the degree of the appearance, and in case of pants, the length and width of the pants showed increasing trend compared to the past. They considered accessory wearing as a compensational expression of the most of students who were not actively behaving on the uniform modification.

A Study on Pobeckchuck in the Middle period of Chosun Dynasty(Second) - Focusing on the History of Chosun Dynasty
Lee, Eun-Kyung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 3, 2007, Pages 623~630
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.3.623
The remarkable fact regarding the History of Chosun Dynasty(from Jungjong- Youngjo) is that any slightest evidence can't be found that Pobeckchuck was used to measure clothes or various Pobecks. There remains the document that in the 22nd years of Myeonjong, Japan required that Pobeckchuck be used, but it couldn't be allowed because of the reason it was made in the former king. This fact raises the high possibility that Pobeckchuck could be the most trustworthy standardized ruler at that time, and in other point of view, it can be presumed that the measurement in the period of King Sejong continued to have been used until this time. It can be seen that the length of one Chuck of Pobeckchuck at this time must have been equivalent to 46. 73cm of Pobeckchuck of Samchuck in the period of Sejong. In the History of Sunjo Period, many records on Pobeckchuck can be found, which fact seemed to have rectified the measurement system which was disordered by military revolt, though the reason is not clear. Also a record can be found that in the period of Sunjo, Chinese envoy required the Sunjo Regime to use Pobeckchuck for the measurement of copper pillar, which record supports the fact that Pobeckchuck is the standardized ruler. Another record that in the 26th period of Youngjo, Pobeckchuck of Samchuck was corrected according to the Kyeongkukdaejeon shows that the length of Pobeckchuck was 46.80cm at that time. Also, the record which rectified many rulers with the comparison of Hwangjong-chuck, Ju-chuck, Joryeki-chuck, Yongjo-chuck, etc. with one another reveals that the rulers used in the period of Sejong continued to have been used unchanged until in the period of Youngjo.
Prevalence of Obesity, Food Habits, and Daily Nutrient Intakes of 4th Grade Elementary School Students in Daejeon
Wang, Soo-Gyoung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 3, 2007, Pages 631~642
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.3.631
This study was an investigation of obesity, food habits and daily nutrient intakes of the 4th grade elementary school students in daejeon. A total of 148 children(male:71, female:77) participated in the study. We classified the subjects into normal group and obese group according to the grade of obesity indices by body fat ratio(BFR), 70% of the male and 31% of the female were obese group. The average height, weight were
(normal group) for the male,
(normal group) for the female. Weight showed a noticeable increase in the obese group, but height was not statistically significant. In dietary habits, it wasn't statistically significant but male obese group showed statistically increase in terms of eating fast(p>0.05) and eating snacks before sleeping(p>0.01) and female obese group was higher in frequency of eating out a month than normal group. Energy intakes of obese group was more than normal group and the average intakes of Vit. A, folic acid, Ca, were below the RI. The average intakes of vit A, vit C, folic acid, Ca, were also below the RI in normal group. The average intakes of vit A, folic acid, Ca, Fe were below the RI in female. Especially in female the intake of Ca was only 53.6%(obese group), 56.4%(normal group) of RI. From these results, we knew prevalence of obesity in elementary school students were high and obese groups were high in energy intakes but low in essential nutrients. Therefore we have to try to prevent and treat childhood obesity. So nutrition education of balanced diet and good dietary habits is needed for elementary school students.
