Trend Analysis of Research Using Evaluation Tools of Languages Abilities for Young Children: Based on Early Children Education Journals registered with the Korea Research Foundation
Youn, Jin-Ju ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 677~690
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.677
This study has a goal to read a trend of language research by analysing evaluation tools and methods that researchers have used for assessing young children's language abilities. Thus the study has chosen 237 language ability evaluation methods out of 121 young child's language ability evaluation researches. The treatises were selected from 4 types of early childhood education journals registered on the Korea Research Foundation. The data analysis was employed for processing the frequency and percentage of the collected data. The results were as follows: First, of single age groups the subject group most selected was five-year-olders and of mixed-age groups the subject group most selected was from three to five, and the number of subjects in researches were mostly below fifty children. The researches were sorted into an 'experimental/ investigational researching' type that has been frequently re-utilized by others, an 'interview type' using a data collection method, and a 'difference verification' type using a data analysis method which has been used in majority of studies. Second, the number of treaties that required data analysis has increased since 1996. Concludingly, the analysis of young child's language ability evaluation tools shows that the purposes of many researches were concentrated on studying children's knowledge about language, children's language functions such as speaking, reading, writing and listening, while evaluation contents were focused on speaking and writing.
The Perception about Science Education of Preservice Early Childhood Teachers' - Focused on Their Science Teaching Efficacy, Goals and Methods -
Kim, Ji-Young ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 691~697
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.691
This study investigates how well pre-teachers in preschools aware the importance of science teaching methods, goals and efficacy, and how different the pre-teachers recognize the importance of methods and goals in science teaching according to the levels of their science teaching efficacy. The subjects were 207 pre-service preschool teachers in Chonnam University and Chonbuk University. The data were collected by using three questionnaires("Science teaching efficacy", "Science teaching goal" and "Science teaching method"). The data were analyzed by a t-test and descriptive statistic. The results are as follows: first, the efficacy levels of the pre-teachers are higher than the average. The pre-teachers perceive a 'process-oriented' goal more importantly than a 'content-oriented' goal in early science education. Also, they recognize science teaching methods as being significant in the order of an 'interactive' approach, an 'activity-discovery' approach and a 'knowledge-transmission' approach. Second, the pre-teachers with high teaching efficacy recognize a 'process-oriented' goal as being more important than those with low teaching efficacy do.

Hwang, Hae-Shin ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 699~710
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.699
The study purposes to explore the effects of individual characteristics and home environments of children on their bilingual language aquisition, that is, to examine whether their English language competency is different from their Korean language competency depending on those variables. Thus English or Korean language competency of children who had had early exposure in English learning were studied in terms of child's individual characteristics such as age, gender, exposure period to English, intelligence, and experiences of visiting English-speaking countries, and home environments such as parental age, educational level, income level, their perceived English competency, their perceived significance of English and Korean language, and the frequency of using English at home. 72 children who went to English kindergarten were tested with Peabody Pictures Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) in Korean version and in English version respectively. The results show that child's intelligence and experiences of visiting English-speaking countries influence their Korean language competency. Also child's age, exposure period to English and experiences of visiting English-speaking countries influence their English language competency. Moreover their mother's educational background, father's English fluency, mothers' English fluency, and the frequency of using English at home influence child's English language competency, whereas any variables did not influence child's Korean language competency. Accordingly, child's English and Korean language competencies are related to each other.

Koo, Eun-Mi ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 711~722
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.711
The purpose of this study was to analyzed child care teachers' health state and a relationship between health promoting lifestyle and job stress of child care teachers. The subjects were 101 child care teachers in Busan. They responded to 'health state open ended question', 'health promoting lifestyle scale', and 'job stress scale'. For the analysis of the data, M(SD), frequencies, t-test, Pearson's correlation were run by using SPSS WIN computer program. The major findings of this study were as follows; First, the most uncomfortable symptoms of child care teacher's physical health state was respiratory organs and the main cause was classroom ventilation and dust. The most uncomfortable symptoms of child care teacher's mental health state was tension and the main cause was children's safety. Second, the mean scores of the variables were as follows : the mean score of health promoting lifestyle was 2.54. The highest sub factor of health promoting lifestyle was 'positive self recognition' and the lowest one was 'exercising'. The mean score of job stress was 2.80 and the highest sub factor was 'administration services'. They desire for a healthy life, but in reality, they are unsatisfied with their current health state and they are not able to practice certain actions actively to promote their health. Third, health promoting lifestyle was negatively correlated with job stress. The result of this study can be used as the basic data for reducing day care teacher's job stress, development of a program to promote day care teacher's health and improving day care teachers working environment.

Choi, Young-Won ; Lee, Eun-Hee ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 783~800
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.783
This study examined the evaluation on the consumers' voluntary anti-sites on on-line from the people concerned, such as the people of an enterprise, a consumer organization, and the consumer. We collected the data using in-depth interview of qualitative analysis. The in-depth interviews were carried out for about two hours in each respondent. Total 15 respondents, 5 in each part of three parts such as an enterprise, a consumer organization, and the consumer, were answered a interview. The data was analysed by content analysis method. As the result of this study, the people concerned to enterprises answered that anti-sites helped the enterprises through the objective and the constructive criticism. The consumers participating in the anti-sites also answered that the existence of anti-sites helped the companies to know the complaint and the dissatisfaction with their goods or services. We suggest the followings for the desirable consumers' voluntary anti-sites through this study. First, the companies need to recognize that the anti-sites help the companies because the anti-sites give the companies the information of improving the product and the corporate management. Second, people concerned to the consumer organizations need to take a neutral role so that the consumer members of anti-sites demand a proper compensation to the companies and receive the reasonable compensation. Third, the anti-sites' managers should give information to the consumer members of the anti-sites continuously, operate the anti-sites actively such as answering a question and managing their members. Fourth, the consumer members of anti-sites should have active attitude in participating in an anti-sites from exchanging various information to uploading their information.

Kim, Jeong-Ha ; Na, Mi-Hyang ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 801~811
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.801
This study attempts to propose a pattern design of snug fitting midi briefs for women. Each briefs made of two kinds of fabric, cotton 40's and cotton 40's spandex, was produced for the research in a different shrinkage rate. The result of wearing test of the briefs-sold-in-the-market (BSM) and the briefs-specially-made-for-this-research (BSMR) were as follows: BSMR showed a higher mark than that of BSM in the sense of close fit on the torso, comfortableness, sense of being tight, satisfaction and beauty. In particular, the back design line of BSM gave a lower satisfaction to test wearers, while that of BSMR gave a more comfortableness to them, making their hip comfortably being wrapped by making smoother the angle of the straight line linking sidelines with clutch part, and making sidelines into curve. In a forward research, further studies about grading and other patterns but midi pattern of briefs would be examined.

Accordingly, a questionnaire survey was conducted to analyze clothes elderly women prefer and present design. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained : First, The style of outfit that elderly women preferred when they went out was a tailored collar jacket and a straight slacks suit. On the assumption that they buy a jacket, however, they preferred a peter pan collar jacket, while they did not like a tailored collar jacket. Second, They liked light and bright pink and yellow colors as color of clothes for spring season, but they preferred grey color most in buying suit actually. For autumn season, they preferred beige, brown or grey colors most. With regard to materials for suit, they liked wool solid fabrics with stretch. As for a blouse, they preferred a single color most. There were significant difference between preference suit design and Assumption of buying suit design.
Relationship between Body Satisfaction and Appearance Enhancement Behavior of College Students
Cho, Hye-Ran ; Choi, Jong-Myoumg ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 825~835
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.825
The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between body satisfaction and appearance enhancement behavior of college students. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 234 college students in Cheong-ju area, Korea. Frequency, descriptive analysis,
and t-tests were used for data analysis. Male students were generally satisfied with their height but not with their weight, while female students were not satisfied with their height and weight. There were significant gender differences in satisfaction with their skin color: male students were mostly satisfied with their skin color other than female students. The body satisfaction degree of college students depended on gender: the male students showed more satisfaction with their physical condition than the female students. Of the college student's improving-appearance behaviors such as face-lifting by plastic surgery, make-up by cosmetics and skin care, their preferable choice depended on their gender. When purchasing clothes, they considered if the clothes could cover their defects of their body line and improve their physical appearance. The levels of body satisfaction were significantly different according to their appearance enhancement behaviors.
Salt Intake Behavior and Blood Pressure: the effect of taste sensitivity and preference
Kim, Jin-Hee ; Choi, Man-Kyu ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 837~848
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.837
The literature suggested that a small reduction in overall blood pressure can have a large effect on overall prevalence of hypertension, and therefore, the affect of taste preferences of the population on salt intake should be considered for long-term blood pressure intervention programs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of salt taste preference and salt taste sensitivity on salt intake behavior as risk factors for high blood pressure. We collected information on blood pressure, diet and lifestyle behaviors, salt taste preference and salt taste sensitivity from 540 respondents from Suseo-dong, Seoul. Salt taste sensitivity was assessed by administering a 1% NaCl solution to the subject's tongue and measuring the perceived intensity on 10 level scale. Salt intake behavior was classified into 3 categories: frequency of high-sodium foods, practice of salt-reducing behavior and frequency of vegetable and fruit intake. Salt taste preference showed a significant relation to the subjects' blood pressure, i.e. subjects with a higher salt preference had higher blood pressure. Salt taste sensitivity did not show a significant relation to blood pressure. However, there was a positive correlation between salt taste preference and salt taste sensitivity. Among the 3 indicators used to measure salt intake behavior, the practice of salt-reducing behavior remained significantly correlated to blood pressure. Moreover, salt-reducing behavior and salt taste preference showed a significant correlation, i.e. people who do not like salty foods tend to practice more salt-reducing behavior, leading to reduced levels in blood pressure. In a population, a small reduction in overall blood pressure can have large effects in overall prevalence of hypertension, in contrast to clinical studies where achievement of an individual's normal blood pressure is emphasized. Therefore, taste preference of the population should be considered for long-term blood pressure intervention programs.
Comparison of the Estimations of Body Fat by Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis(BIA) and Anthropometric Measurements of Elementary School Students in Daejeon
Wang, Soo-Gyoung ; Lee, Na-Young ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 849~854
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.849
Body fat proportion is a major issue in health. The prevalence of obesity in childhood has been increasing on thesedays. A series of indirect estimates of body fat have been developed. There are hydrodensitometry, BIA and anthropometry equation for body fat. Hydrodensitometry has been regarded as a common criterion method. BIA made it possible to analyze body fat mass more related to hydrodensitometry than anthropometry. The purpose of this unvestigation were to compare body fat and other body composition between boys & girls and to know which anthropometry equation for body fat was most closely associated with BIA in boys & girls respectively. The subjects were 148 4th grade elementary school students(male:70, female:78). They underwent BIA(InBody 3.0, Biospace Korea)to determine body fat and other body composition. Anthropometric measurements were taken of height, weight, skinfolds and circumferences. The results obtained are summarized as follow: 1) Weight, BMI and Rohrer index were
for boys and
for girls. 2) Total body fat and percent body fat determined by BIA were
for the boys group and
for girls. 3) Mean triceps skinfold thickness was
in girls and mean WHR was
in female and the values were significantly different by sex. 4) Correlational nanlyses showed that estimation of body fat by BIA measurement seemed to be closely associated with Rohere index(boys r=0.854, girls r=0.909). Kim's equation was highly correlated with the body fat in girls(r=0.910) but less correlated in boys(r=0.710). We need to develop specific anthropometric equations based on age and sex to determine body fat for children.

Choi, Mock-Wha ; Byun, Hea-Ryung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 855~875
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.855
The purpose of this study is to suggest a guideline for outdoor play settings in child care centers. From March to July, 2005, data were collected from 223 directors at child care centers through a structured questionnaire, field measurement survey and non-participatory observation in seventeen child care centers in Seoul and Daejeon. The statistical methods for analysing data were frequency, percentage, mean,
and F-test. The results showed as follows: 1)the existing outdoor playground area in child care centers should be expanded more than
per child. 2) Outdoor play facilities should be equipped with two structured play sets, a play facility for unstructured play and an adventure facility to make child's various activities possible and to promote child development. 3)flooring materials for outdoor playground should be required to use more than three kinds such as solid coverings (cf. asphalt, standard concrete), wood, lawn, soil or sands. 4)to let children enjoy various activities, outdoor playground area should be composed of various play facilities like indoor play gyms and should be independent but have good connections between play facilities depending on characteristics of play activities. 5)Play spaces of outdoor playground should be composed of physical play space, unstructured and dramatized play space, rest space, space for nature and adventure space. In addition, appropriate play equipments should be provided in respective play space.

Park, Ju-Hyun ; Park, Ok-Lyun ; Jung, Yun-Ji ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 877~884
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.877
Today the number of economically independent women are increasing in Korea, they have a tendency to pay more attention to their appearance in their social life. Female university students show a high tendency of that kind, especially when they prepare for their job interviews. They purchase beauty products, visit beauty salons and skin care centers to improve their looks. Above all, their interest in nail art is amazingly increasing for maintaining their self-image. This study thus aims at surveying the relationship between college woman's life style and their interest in nail care, by analysing life styles of college women pursuing up-to-date style. The results show that an 'egoistic' type has a high interest in and a high frequency of using a nail care center, and 'egoistic' type's demand for the nail service is equal to or quite higher than 'appearance-oriented' type's. That means that the 'egoistic' type seems to pay much attention to how they look, because they think their neat appearance help to accomplish their ego.
A Study on the Relevant Factors of the Psychological Expecter Effects of Make-up according to Body Cathexis and Make-up Attitude
Choi, Su-Koung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 16, issue 4, 2007, Pages 885~897
DOI : 10.5934/KJHE.2007.16.4.885
The women selected by random sampling were classified into four groups according to their body cathexis and make-up attitude in order to investigate influences in psychological expecter effects of make-up. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The result are as follows. Cluster was classified into four groups: positive congruity(G1), positive incongruity(G2), negative congruity(G3), negative incongruity(G4). The make-up behaviors were found to be very influential factors, and so were desires and clothing values in some degree. But, the psychological expecter effects of make-up according to body cathexis and make-up attitude of adult women showed a difference in subordinate factors of desire, clothing value, and make-up behavior in view of their peculiarities classified in detail.
