Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 571~585
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.571
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of playfulness, play support beliefs and parenting stress on intimate parenting in the mothers of young children by maternal employment. In order to achieve this, 405 mothers of young children, aged 3-5 years old, participated in a self-reported survey. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics using SPSS 19.0 and structural equation modeling and multigroup analysis using AMOS 21.0. The results of this study showed that the mothers' support beliefs and parenting stress mediated both playfulness and intimate parenting irrespective of maternal employment. Interestingly, the unemployed mothers' playfulness had direct effects on intimate parenting whereas the playfulness of the employed mothers did not. Lastly, the effects of the mothers' play support beliefs, playfulness, and parenting stress on intimate parenting did not differ between employed and unemployed mothers.

Effect of Personality Traits of the Middle Aged on Quality of Life: Mediated by Self-Concepts and Moderated by Subjective Socio-Economic Variables
Shin, Hakgene ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 633~652
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.633
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of personality traits of the middle aged on quality of life while mediated by self-concepts such as self-efficacy and self-derogation, as well as while moderated by subjective socio-economic variables such as economic status, social activities and employment. To verify the conceptual causality model and moderating effects of contextual variables, we analysed 353 cases out of purposively collected 400 cases from a medium sized city. As results, first, conscientiousness of personality traits positively affected quality of life of the middle aged while mediated by self-concepts. Second, neuroticism of personality traits negatively affected quality of life while mediated by self-concepts. Third, agreeableness of personality traits did not eventually affect quality of life, although affected negatively on self-efficacy and positively on self-derogation. Fourth, socio-economic variables such as economic status, social activities and employment moderated various paths in the model, which indicated dynamics of internal variables were affected by contextual variables.
Extracting Method of the Space Shapes between Clothing and the Human Body - Focusing on the Mold Bra for Small-breasted Women -
Lee, Hyun Young ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 653~663
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.653
In the design of stereoscopic clothing items, the 3D shapes of the space between clothing and body (SCB; Space shape between Clothing and Body) can be very important clues to improve the fit for various body shapes. Therefore, this research suggests a method for extracting the shape of SCB using the mold bra cup as an example. The SCBs were extracted from two kinds of 3D images, a small-breasted women's nude breast images and bra-wearing images. The the mold bra cups were compressed by wearing, and the outer and lower part of the SCBs could not be obtained because of the movement of the breast volume in the bras. Therefore, the SCBs could not be applied to the design of the mold bra cups directly. However, the suggested method can be useful when it is applied to stiffer clothing items and body parts whose shapes are not changed easily, such as a helmet or other body protectors.

Kim, Soyoung ; Hong, Kyunghi ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 665~680
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.665
The purpose of this study was to develop the construction process of orthopedic compression garments (OCG) for balancing of the left and right lumbar muscle power and strength to prevent low back pain. One male subject having low back pain was involved for investigating of the lumbar muscle power. EMG (Telemyo DTS2, Noraxon, U.S.A) was measured with/ without 3 types of waist assistant belt around the waist area of the subject. Based on the electromyogram value of left and right body, OCG were constructed as follows. Firstly, stretchable t-shirts type with supportive waist belt was selected for the convenience of wearing and laundering the OCG. The design lines of the front and back waist parts were created depending on the anatomy of the torso. Secondly, 3D pattern was developed using 3D Clo, RapidForm XOR, 2C-AN, and Yuka CAD program to increase the fit of the OCG. Finally, stretchable power-net was layered as linings in two ways, a single lining and double layered linings, and evaluated measuring lumbar muscle EMG by five subjects with low back pain. As the results, they were effective to balance the left and right lumbar muscle power and strength. Also the OCG with the double layered power-net lining was superior to the one layered lining in terms of fit and comfort.

Kiｍ, Sun Young ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 681~695
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.681
This study has the purpose to find basic materials for development of kindergarten's uniform and suggest the improvement of its design based on the survey results from Suncheon area in Jeollanam-do of Korea. Such study methods were conducted as literature review, survey with direct visit, interview, and photographing of dresses regarding the kindergarten uniform. The following are research results. First, kindergarten teachers presented a positive opinion about the necessity for children to wear the uniform. In selection of design, they regarded the activity as most important factor. Kindergartens applying active wear compatible as townwear also accounted for 57.1%, which is more than half. Second, the formal wear, in the winter season was found to consist with jacket or knit cardigan, knit vest, shirts, skirts or pants, and necktie. For color, most of them are in dark tone, which need to be brighter. For pattern, they are in plain color, which needs to have various patterns. As to the cloth material, such problems should be improved as warmth retentivity in consideration of seasonal nature, moisture retentivity, breathability, color retentivity when washing, and harmless to human body. Third, active wear is mostly the casual sportswear type. But it has no characteristic unique to kindergarten in design and needs to be altered for differentiated design. Especially, it is simply divided into winter wear and summer wear in kind. Therefore, it is required to have differentiation for seasonal characteristic and diversity in number of item and improvement in terms of cloth material.

DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.721
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary behavior and late-night eating habit of university students in Daejeon. Questionnaires were collected from 432 students and statistically analyzed according to residence type. One thirds of students took meals irregularly and skipped breakfast because of no time. Both Relative self-boarding and dormitory boarding group skipped breakfast more frequently than home group(p<0.01). The carbonated drink was most frequently chosen during late-night eating. The most favorite alcoholic beverage was soju and 54.7% of students drank soju 1~2 times per week near campus. Almost half of them took late-night foods 1~2 times per week at home(51.8%), near campus(25.8%), near home(15.6%), down town(6.9%). The percentage of late-night eating near campus was higher in dormitory boarding group than both home group and relative self-boarding group(p<0.001). Late-night foods were selected based on taste in 1~2 man won and enjoyed with 2~3 friends until 12 pm. The more in relative self-boarding group chose late-night foods based on taste than both home and dormitory boarding group(p<0.05). The main intake method for late-night foods was delivery. The results of this study suggest that nutritional education is required for relative self-boarding group to change dietary behavior and to select proper late-night foods for their health.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease. In the past years, numbers of children with atopic dermatitis has increased all over the world. Objective of this study was to evaluate awareness of students in atopy-friendly elementary schools about environmentally-friendly grown agricultural products and their practice levels for dietary guidelines. This study was conducted by using a questionnaire on 116 students from three atopy-friendly schools in Jin-an, Jeong-eup, and Gwang-ju and 124 students from general elementary schools. According to the results, the numbers of children who suffer from atopic dermatitis between atopy-friendly schools and general schools were not significantly different. Among, students with atopic dermatitis, more students in atopy-friendly school, compared to general school, restricted foods. Since different school feeding services have been provided, students in atopy-friendly schools generally get more information about the environmentally-friendly agricultural products through nutrition education. However, most results did not show differences in knowledge levels and practice levels for dietary guidelines for children between students in atopy-friendly schools and general schools about environmentally-friendly produces. However, students in atopy-friendly schools less frequently eat cookies, soda drinks, or fast foods. In conclusion, appropriate program for nutrition education should be provided to elementary school students with atopic dermatitis.
The Study of Nutrient Intakes, Blood Lipids and Bone Density According to Obesity Degree Among University Students in Jeonbuk
Chang, Hye-Soon ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 23, issue 4, 2014, Pages 743~757
DOI : 10.5934/kjhe.2014.23.4.743
The purpose of this study was to compare nutrient intakes, blood lipids and bone density of male(n=69) and female(n=71) according to the obesity index by %Fat. The average energy intakes of obesity group was higher than normal group in male & female(p<0.001). The protein and fat intakes among three energy nutrients for male were higher than normal group(p<0.05~0.01), and carbohydrate intake of obesity group in female was higher than the other groups. TG, TC/HDL, blood glucose, blood pressure in male were higher than female(p<0.01~0.001), but HDL in male was lower than female. TC/HDL and diastolic blood pressure of obesity group were higher than normal group in male(p<0.05), but had not significant in female. Blood glucose in male was higher than female(p<0.001). T-score of forearm(=-1.26) and calcaneus(=0.42) for female were lower than male(=-0.63, 0.83), and T-score of calcaneus for obesity group(=1.03) in female was higher than normal group(=0.10). The T-score of forearm for obesity group in female was higher than the other group, but was not significant. These results suggest that ratio among three energy nutrients was kept balance for obesity group, especially, fat must be reduced in male than female, carbohydrate will be reduced in female than male to prevent obesity. Nutritional education for treatment obesity to prevent hyperlipidemia and arteriosclerosis is important for male too. T-score of forearm was lower than calcaneus in female, so exercise with arm than leg would be required to accumulate calcium in bone and to increase muscle to prevent osteoporosis.
