A Literature Review and Future Research Direction on the Elderly Consumer
Hong, Eun-Pyo ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 73~82
This study intends to recognize the old as an independent consumer, and to examine the behavioral characteristics of the old through literature review. This study also tries to suggest the direction of study on the elderly consumers' behavior. It has been generally accepted that the elderly consumers are highly constricted in purchase behavior or in information process capacity by the decline of biological competence. But according to the literature review, this general viewpoint does not reflect the reality. The literatures say that the old consumers do not so much differ from the non-old consumers in behavioral characteristics. They rather seem to be more active consumers. Nevertheless, what they claim could be a fallacy due to the overspecialization of sample. And another direction of future research is to change the age boundary of the old. The existing studies were largely based on the distinction between the old and the non-old by the age of 60 or 65. It is possible that behavioral difference is diffused by the common purchasing patterns of cohort around the age of 60 or 65. Accordingly it would be a good attempt to widen the range of age group more than 10 years.
The Interelationship of the Consumer Behavior between Mother and Their Early Children
Kim, Duck-Soon ; Youh, Kyung-Yea ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 83~93
In order to adapt to the economic change with the rapid world change, the wise consumers should have positive cognizance of their roles and are requested to fulfil their duties as a consummer. Such capability of the consumer could be acquired from home, mass media and school, and specially the role of mother at home would have a great influence on their early children's consummer activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the interrelationship of the consumer behavior between mother and their children. As a result of this study, the mother with higher educational background could manage effectively the allowance of the children. The mother with older age had a great influence on the consumer's role of the children and high record of the execution. Employed mother had higher level of execution for the consumer's rights than their count part. Accordingly, the consumer behavior of the mother will have an influence on the children's consumer behavior. Such a result showed the meaningful statistic relations(r=3.6, p<.001) for the economy activity of the children the home management and economy life of the mother, and the purchasing activity of the children including the execution of the consumer's right. In their regard, there was the significant statistic relations(r=19, p<.05) between the children's pocket money and the housekeeping management of the mother. In the meantime, it showed that another changing factor concerned with the consumer behavior of the mother have little influence the children's allowance.

Positive relationships were found between satisfaction level and friend colleague neighborhood, and family relatives out of 6 information sources.
Survey on Consumer's Cognition for Management of Clothing Products
Kim, Yang-Weon ; Lee, Hae-Young ; Lee, Eun-Kyung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 115~120
To investigate the cognition of labeling system and its problems, problems in laundry, and consumer's dissatisfaction and to decrease problems in management of clothing products, total 476 subjects were surveyed in Taejon. The major results were as follows ; 1. The cognition of labeling system was understood by 93.1% of respondents, and 72.9% of them prefer to recognized labeling by figures and letters than by either of them. Most of respondents got the knowledge of labeling system from school. The most frequently experienced mislabeling was the label for management. 2. In cleaning, 60.4% of respondents made their decisions of the laundry method after seeing labeling system. When the label recommanded either of hand washing or dry cleaning, they usually laundered with hand washing after a few times of dry cleaning. The first consideration factor for laundry was fiber composition of textiles. 3. About 70% of respondents understood ironing, laundry, and drying mark on labeling system, and 53.8% understood fiber composition and bleaching. 4. More than 90% of respondents experienced dissatisfaction in handling clothing products. The reason of dissatisfaction was deformation and decoloring after laundry. Most of respondents experienced change of tactile sensation, too.
A Study on the Pattern for the Clean Room Garment of the Overall Type
Na, Mi-Hyang ; Jang, Kyung-Jin ; Lee, Yeun-Soon ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 121~131
This study was to design the clean room garment which fits for a body and adjusts well to the action. We examined the body's changes in action through a body measurment and made a sample of the clean room garment to which had adapted the body's changes in action and evaluated the function and the appearance compared with the existing the clean room garment. The followings were summery of the results : 1. Back intersyce breadth decreased, trunk length increased and the other parts were not change. At a posture of raising hands(
) in comparison with an upright posture(
). Back intersyce breadth, hip length and knee length increased and the other parts were a little change. At a bowing posture(
) in comparison with an upright posture(
). Back hip girth, knee length, hip length and leg length increased and the other parts were not change. At a working posture on a chair(
) in comparison with an upright posture(
). 2. The overall clean room garment was made increasing on the changes of part of a body through measuring and body measurement. 3. From the test of the function, it became known that the devised clean room garment was superior to the existing one in the parts of neck, shoulder, armpit and elbow at a working posture on a chair(
), in the parts of neck, shoulder, and armpit at a bowing posture(
), and the armpit at a posture of raising hands(
). The appearance was better on the whole. 4. From the examination of photographs, the waist line of the devised clean room garment was not so much pulled up as that of the existing one on moving. And when sitting down on a chair, the waist line of the existing one was pulled down while that of the devised one had no change. As above, we investigated the actual conditions of wearing the clean room garment and measured the body's changes according the various actions. So we applied these results to the devised clean room garment but we couldn't research the clean mom effect of it owing to not obtaining the measuring instrument. The aspect of ergonomics liked the feeling of wearing and fitted to the action must be given consideration to the clean room garment, and simultaneously the dust-resistant effect must be taken into consideration in order to improve the quality of the goods. Therefore, we think it should be continued the research on the dust-resistant effect, material, washing method, quality control, and size along with the aspect of ergonomics.
A Study on the Clothing Behavior of Elementary School Students in Connection with Sex-Role Identity and Home Enviornments
Jeon, Kyoung-Ran ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 133~144
Clothing is considered as a means of self-projection in the childhood and children show clear preference on their own favorite clothing on which their latent identity is reflected. Changing sex-role identity, in particular, in the modern complex society specially affects the clothing behavior of children. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clothing behavior of children in conjunction with sen-role identity and home environment variables. This study will provide fundamental information on the clothing behavior in the childhood and be of help in selecting appropriate clothing in accordance with the variation of sex-role identity. Necessary information for this study was obtained through a questionaire. 'Bem sex-role identity inventory' was used to investigate the effect of sex-role identity and the clothing behavior was studied in conjunction with the factors of conformity, dependence, aesthetics and interest. The subjects of investigation are composed of three hundred male and female elementary school students in the 5th and 6th grades. For the statistical analysis of the collected data, percentage(%), mean value(M), standard deviation(SD) and Pearson's correlation coefficient were calculated and t-test,
-test, and Duncan's multiple range test were performed. The results form this study are as follows : 1. Sex-role identity shows a little difference according to gender, order of a birth and standard of living. This small difference is shown to be statistically insignificant. 2. In clothing behavior in connection with the sex-role identity, statistically significant trend was not found in typical sex-role identity group. However, clothing behavior in modernistic sex-role identity group exhibits statistically significant results in the factors of dependence, aesthetics and interest at the level of P<.001. 3. As concerns the clothing behavior in connection with gender, boy students show statistically more significant tendency in aesthetics and interest than girls do. However, boy students show statistically more significant tendency in aesthetics than girls do in connection with the standard of living. Although the clothing behavior associated with the level of parents education, mother's age and existence of mother's job shows a little difference in mean values, statistically significant trend was not detected. 4. Clothing behavior of the children shows a meaningful correlation between the factors. 5. Through 3-dimensional variables analysis, it is found that there is no mutual interaction between gender, sex-role identity and standard of living on the clothing behavior. The results from MCA supplementary analysis reveal that there is difference according to the gender, sex-role identity and standard of living.
An Analysis of Children's Torso Using Photographic Anthropometry
Jeon, Eun-Kyung ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 145~155
The purpose of this study is to analyze the body type of children's, especially torso, and to provide the fundamental data for children's clothing construction which can reflect the characteristics of their bodies. The subjects for photographic measurements are 308 elementary school children aged from 6 to 8 living in Seoul and urban area. Anthropometric measurements were performed indirectly from the pictures of subjects. The data were analyzed statistically using SPSSWIN. The results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. Through one-way ANOVA, items for heights, breaths, weight reveals the significant differences according to ages and genders. 2. Through Pearson correlation, it turns out that there are high correlation between any items of heights, but there is no correlation for item of shoulder inclination with any other items. 3. Through factor analysis of principal component model, six factors were extracted which covers 83.6% of the whole information. The first factor represents the items of heights which relates with linearity. The second factor describes the items of breaths, depths, and weight in relation with laterality. The third factor were gathered with depths of front and back in relation with posture of side, which proves as important one to characterize the children's torso. The other factors represents the items of posture of neck, depths in neck, shoulder inclination, respectively. 4. Through one-way ANOVA in factor by group, and Scheffe multi comparison test for each group, the factor 1 that is related with linearity reveals the significant differences according to ages and genders.
Effect of Amylose and Amylopectin on the Texture of Mook
Kim, Hyang-Sook ; Ahn, Seung-Yo ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 157~166
Studies were carried out to investigate formation of Mook and its physical properties as well as the effects of amylose and amylopectin on the texture of Mook which were made from cowpea, mung bean, acorn, buckwheat, kidney bean, potato, rice, corn and wheat starches. Texture parameters of 10% starch gels were significantly different depending on the kind of starches. However, there were no significant differences in those of gels of starches commonly used for the preparation of mook. It was appeared that gel indices of cowpea, mung bean, acorn and buckwheat starch gels were in the range of 2.11-2.37, elastic limits were more than 0.60, gel strength coefficients were in the range of 700-1400 and brittlnesses were 0.23-0.62. It was also appeared that gel index and elastic limit were affected by amylopectin and gel strength coefficient and brittleness, by amylose, and that these two fractions were not able to form gel like Mook unless they were combined with proper proportion. Effect of addition of amylose from cereal and potato starches to cowpea starch or cowpea amylopectin were different from that of cowpea amylose. When cereal starches were supplemented by cowpea starches, gel strength coefficients and brittlenesses of their gels were increased, but gel indices and elastic limits were not changed. However, potato starch gel was improved to be similar to Mook with increasing of gel strength coefficient and appearance of brittleness by addition of cowpea amylose.
Characteristics of High-ratio Cakes Prepared with Isomaltooligosaccharide
Lee, Kyong-Ae ; Lee, Yoon-Jin ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 167~172
The effects of replacement of sucrose with isomaltooligosaccharide(IMO) on physical, sensory and textural characteristics of high-ratio cakes were investigated. As IMO level increased, the specific gravity of batter decreased and the moisture content of crumb increased. A higher degree of IMO replacement for sucrose made cakes softer and more moist. The 40% and 60% IMO replcement cakes showed good acceptability. The hardness, chewiness and gumminess measured by texture analyzer were decreased with increasing IMO level.
A Study on the Plan of Production Space in Farm Houses according to Farm Specialization
Park, Kyoung-Ok ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 173~185
This study intends to suggest the considerations in the planning of production space of rice farming houses, based on their needs on the space and machinery for rice production. The 30 rice farming houses, in a village in Chungbuk province, responded for this study. Larger stalls and new built storehouses for grain or machinery showed changes in attached buildings after 1970s. Despite of the broad use of machinery in rice terming, however, only 1 or 2 houses in a village own and run it, and the planning of storehouse for machinery has to be done respectively. The sort and location of attached houses depend on the scale of rice farming. And because the production activities in the riceplanting or harvesting period collide with household ones, the considerations on the planning of efficient activity-oriented production space are offered in this study.

Kim, In-Sook ; Eo, Jong-Seon ; Lee, Mee-Sook ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 6, issue 2, 1997, Pages 187~198
The purpose of this study is to find some directions for students' future and Home Economics Education. Juniors and Seniors majoring in Home Economics were selected from 4 Universities in Chungbuk Province and the questionnare survey was used. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Most of respondents were defined the H.E. as the academic subject, and 50.2% of them regarded H.E. as a necessary subject regardless of whether it is their major or not. 2. Though the most general motives of choosing H.E. as their major were recommendation of their parents/neighbors or their school record, they are satisfied with their major. 3. The strongest reason majoring in H.E. was that it is helpful to living, and some students didn't show any interest because H.E. was not considered as a realistic study. 4. Many respondents answered that male students have to learn H.E., and thought that H.E. Education is much influential to one's living. 5. 59.6% of respondents replied that cultural studies related to H.E. are opened at the universities, and 90.6% of them thought subjects related to H.E. should be opened as cultural studies. 6. After graduation, 48.3% of respondents will choose their jobs related to their major, and they prefer to be a teacher, a dietition and a fashion designer in its order. 7. 44.3% of respondents thought that H.E. is neglected and 50.7% of them answered that the research by industrial-educational cooperation is necessary. 8. Many students majoring in H.E. took an optimistic view about H.E.'s future as a study.
