Jeon, Eun-Kyung ; Kwon, Sook-Hee ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 2, 1999, Pages 313~325
This study aimed to classify the data of children's bodies into several clusters by principal component scores that were extracted through the factor analysis in the former study, and to describe the distribution and body characteristics of the clusters. The sample was 308 elementary school children aged from 6 to 8 and the anthropometric measurements were performed indirectly from the photographs of the subjects, which was the same as the first analysis. The data were analysed statistically using SPSSWIN Ver. 8.0. Through the statistical analysis, 3 clusters were obtained from the data. The first cluster distributed more in the children aged 7 and 8 than in the children aged 6. The somatotype of this group was the tallest among the three groups, and they were the most developed group compared to the two other groups in lateral component as well as in linear component. The second cluster group wasn't well developed in lateral components, and had lowest level in Rohrer Index, so this group had thin figures compared to the other groups. The third cluster revealed dominant distribution in the group aged 6, and the group had the least developed linear components but higher level in Rohrer Index. Each cluster group revealed peculiar somatotype that was dominant in one group but rarely in other cluster groups. Lateral views of these characteristics were showed using the average of the measurements of clusters.

Lee, Eun-Kyung ; Kim, Yang-Weon ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 2, 1999, Pages 327~337
Primitive men's primordial formative activity derives from incarnation contained in intensive vitality and strong creativity mind. The trend of modern fashion requiring the boundless imagination can be called that it, just, itself, has something in common with basic spiritual activity that primitive men had. What is concerning how modern fashion designers have developed formative language through enchanting primitive art is as follows. 1. The nature's mysterious power appears to be transformed into personified image. The incarnation for acquiring beauty, power, prestige of genius appears in the form of personification, making use of mask in modern fashion. 2. As for primitive men, the whole universe has a potentiality as a symbol. The symbolism of primitive art based on religion and myth appears in modern art as the form of presenting oppositional objects together in one space. 3. Primitive art is the purest form and the most unpolluted. This shows the natural quality being assimilated into nature, which is expressed in modern fashion as intensity, free-spirit, simplicity, etc. 4. The primitive men's anxiety to the outside world appears as impulse. The geometrical form of primitive art occurred in the shape of impulse appears in expressional form of modern fashion. 5. The real existence in primitive art inducing real materials and objects, in themselves, into formative world appears in modern art in the way of expression such as repetition, enlargement, exact reproduction.

This research was to identify the relationships between sex role attitude and the preference of fashion advertising formatted by sex role expression, and to examine the relationships among sex role attitude and sociographic variables. This research has been done for 618 university students and working group who are living in Cheongju and Seoul. For data analysis, descriptive analysis, ANOVA, and t-test were used. The results are the following: 1. In the view of the preference of fashion advertising, the stereotypical fashion advertising has more point than the androgynous fashion advertising. 2. The advertising formation preference showed a little difference significantly by sex role attitude. The group with conservative sex role preferred the stereotypical fashion advertising. The group with open-minded sex role preferred the androgynous fashion advertising. 3. Women preferred the androgynous advertising. As the aged, they preferred the stereotypical fashion advertising and have the conservative sex role. University students have more intention to buy with an androgynous fashion commercial than working group have and they have the open-minded about sex. The group subscribed the fashion magazine has more preference for androgynous fashion advertising, as they have more open-minded sex role than other group not subscribed the fashion magazine. This results imply that the androgynous formatted advertizing is still hard to get the influence of a general market promotion because most consumers have a low androgynous fashion advertizing preference. The preference of the fashion advertizing which expressed a sex role showed significant differences as social demographics, and a sex-role attitude. Therefore, the market segment and advertising strategies which are based on sex role and consumer characteristics would be very effective.

A Study on the Television Viewing Behavior of Koreans: Focusing on the Dynamics of Coviewing among Family Members
Kim, Beam-Jong ; Kim, Jin-Ho ; Kim, In-Sook ; Lee, Min-Goo ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 2, 1999, Pages 399~417
Viewers have always switched channels and they have selected by turning away from the TV and returning to the set when the content seemed more amusing. Also, people usually watch television with their family members and thus the experience of viewing is embedded uniquely in ongoing processes of family interaction. In other words, people develop patterns and habits through the act of viewing together. As viewing with family members is the most frequent mode of media exposure, the context of family viewing needs to be thoroughly examined if we are to understand the family's use of television. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the dynamic nature of television viewing behavior. With the people meter's second-by-second viewing information, first we analyze who, when, and why viewers change channels. The ensuing reduction of advertising impact due to zapping will be investigated as well. Then the focus will be shifted to the dynamic interaction of coviewing among family members. In order to further explore the in-depth nature of television viewing, actual viewing information should be cross-analyzed with respect to both demographic and psychographic variables. In this study we surveyed individual characteristics such as television watching patterns, program type preference, attitude toward commercials, channel control intensity, and personalities. We have demonstrated that the results of an meticulus analysis of survey data provide valuable insights into the dynamics of television viewing among family members.
