A Study on the School Violence in the Elementary Schools in Korea
Kim, Sun-Ae ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 3, 1999, Pages 437~451
This paper tries to find out the prevalence of the school violence among the elementary school children and explores variables to explain the violence based on the various victimization theories including the life style theory. One out of ten respondents reported that they had at least one experience of victimization. Bullying was found out to be the most frequent type of the school violence. The school violence experience are shown to have no statistical significant relationship with the life style of respondents, the family background, and the academic achievements, but to have relatively high correlation to delinquency propensity. This may indicate that both offender and victim of the school violence could be recruited from the same group.

Hyun, Wha-Jin ; Lee, Joung-Won ; Kwak, Chung-Sil ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 3, 1999, Pages 477~486
This study was performed to investigate the variation in dietary fiber and fat intakes, and the contribution of food groups to dietary fiber and fat consumption in relation to age and to examine the relationship between dietary fiber and fat intakes in 337 urban adults aged 20-49 year. Dietary intakes were evaluated with one-day 24-hour recall and two-day dietary record method. Significantly higher intakes of fat in males and saturated fatty acid, monounsaturated fatty acid, polyunsaturated fatty acid, and cholesterol in females were associated with younger age. The ratio of fat to the total energy intake slightly exceeded 20% at 20s and 30s in both males and females. The main source of dietary fiber was vegetables in all age groups of males and 30s of females, but grains in 20s and 40s of females. The main source of fat was meats in all age groups of males and 40s of females, but grains in 20s and 30s in females. The main source of cholesterol was eggs in both males and females. Dietary fiber intake was positively correlated with all fat-related parameters except cholesterol in 20s and 40s and was positively related with fat in 30s of males. For females dietary fiber intake was positively correlated with polyunsaturated fatty acid in 20s and with monounsaturated fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acid in 40s. These findings show that there is considerable variation in intake of dietary fiber and fat in relation to age among adults and suggest that these factors should be considered at interventions aimed toward improvement of nutritional status.

Application of Electronic Retailing in Apparel
Won, Myung-Sim ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 3, 1999, Pages 511~524
This research examines 13 Korean Web sites and 15 foreign Web Sites to explore how companies present apparel products by both layout of graphics and information at the Web sites. The results show that most Web sites display tiny icons next to the item's text description. Clicking on these icons takes the customers to another web page, where the full size photograph of the item appears. The results also revealed that most web sites offer shopping bag function and payment options such as on-line and credit cards. The results indicate that Web sites are constantly evolving and following functions such as virtual dressing room, FAQ, the links, E-Cash payment, currency converter and multilingual sites are becoming standards in the near future.

Yun, Jee-Yun ; Kweon, Soo-Ae ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 3, 1999, Pages 551~563

Tightness and uncomfortability for each slacks were measured to be expressed 5point-likert type. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. At the research for measuring uncomfortability, measures of slim types and straight types of thigh circumference, crotch length B and C, and the body movement such as sitting down on the chair, sitting down with their body curling like a ball, and getting down on their knees were higher in slim types than in straight types. 2. Only crotch length C had different measures between these two types in tightness. 3. In uncomfortability, each of them had different measures among three kinds of crotch length and two types of thigh circumference had different measures among three kinds of crotch length. Four kinds of movement had different measures among three kinds of crotch length in uncomfortability. While uncomfortability of crotch length B was the highest one, that of crotch length A was the lowest one. 4. In tightness, each of them had different measures among three kinds of crotch length. While tightness of crotch length C was the highest one, that of crotch length A was the lowest one. Four kinds of movement had different measures among three kinds of crotch length in tightness.

Kim, Hye-Kyung ; Jung, Sung-Il ;
Korean Journal of Human Ecology, volume 8, issue 3, 1999, Pages 565~577
In this world of globalism, achieving the winning position in the competitive international market is essential in the area of fashion industry. For this reason, we should accomplish this task by adapting our own traditional beauty to the modern fashion design through the modernization of the Korean traditional style. Therefore, this study attempted to analyze the fashion design works of the active Korean fashion designer, Sul Yoon-Hyung, focusing on the subject how she incorporated the modern fashion design with the traditional motives. In order to study this research subject, both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used to collect and analyse the textile motives used in the designer's works found from the major fashion magazines, Bazaar, Vogue, Marie Claire, ELLE, WWD, and Fashion Today during the last seven years(1993-1999). The collected research data, 68 works, was counted and analyzed in terms of the categories of Korean traditional motives they were adapted from, the application techniques, and the aesthetic characteristics. As a result of the study, it was found that Sul Yoon-Hyung has adapted different kinds of Korean traditional motives including motives borrowed from the nature such as flowers and animals, geometrical forms, and Chinese letters with different specific symbolic meanings for each motif and many different techniques were utilized to apply these motives. It was apparent to note that the Korean traditional motives were successfully incorporated into her fashion design works expressing the beauty of oriental grace, naturalism, sophistication, and above all, the modern sense.
