Simulation of magnetostrictive Terfenol-D rod dynamics using a coupled FE-BEM

This paper describes the application of the coupled FE-BEM (finite element-boundary element method) for the numerical harmonic analysis of the linear dynamic behaviour of a magnetostrictive Terfenol-D rod in water. The magnetostrictive rod is three-dimensionally simulated to transduce applied electric current in a helical coil around the rod to mechanical displacement. The theoretical derivation of the magnetostrictive matrix equation is described in detail. The steady-state resonance response of the displacement is shown. In addition, the directivity pattern and the radiation impedance are also shown.
Fabrication of 3-dimensional magnetic sensor by anisotropic etching in TMAH

This paper will present an anisotropic etching in TMAH technique used in the fabrication of three-dimensional magnetic field vector sensor based on angled Hall plate structure. This sensor design relies on simultaneously detecting all magnetic field vector components using Hall plates that are imbedded into the silicon  sloped-surface of bulk micromachined cavity by the anisotropic etching of  silicon. The fabricated Hall elements has relatively improved sensitivity compare to convensional Hall elements for three-dimensional magnetic field sensing. The product sensitivity of 547V/AT at the supply current of 1.0mA was achived. The corresponding limit in the detection of magnrtic field is 0.07G that calculated by measured power spectral density(PSD) in magnetic sensor output.
On-Line Measurement of Solid Particles in Air Using a Quartz Crystal Microbalance

The measurement of solid particles suspended in air is conducted with a quartz crystal microbalance. The measurement system is connected to a personal computer and multiple sensors are utilized to make simultaneous measurement possible. In this paper, the detail of experimental setup is extensively explained for the possible future application of the system in other areas. It is found that the measurement system is suitable for an on-line continuous determination of the concentration of solid particles in air.
Microfabrication of the ISFET Cartridge by empolying Nozzle system

. A micro-reference electrode was achieved by employing a differential system with ISFETs/QRE (quasi-reference electrode)/REFET (reference field-effect transistor). Metal electrodes was deposited at both ends of blowing channel were used to check the presence of bubble in the microchannel. The pH-ISFET was inserted into the fabricated cartridge and the washing effect of the nozzle system in cartridge was invested.
Hydrocarbon Gas-sensing Properties of Catalytic Combustion Type Gas Sensor

Catalytic combustion type gas sensors were fabricated by using noble metal(Pt and Pd) added

. The fabricated sensor showed power consumption of 500 mW at the operating voltage of 1.75 V and high sensitivity of about 120 mV for butane, methane, or propane 100%LEL, respectively. The sensor properties also showed good linearity to hydrocarbon gas concentration variation, reproductivity and stability for relative humidity variation. And it showed high stability in butane ambient for 100 days.
Development of an Electric Field Sensor using Reflective Interference Type Optical Modulator

A reflective interference type optical modulator to compose the electric field sensor is proposed, and the performance and characteristics are theoretically analyzed. For the high sensitivity of the sensor, a method to improve the modulation index of the modulator is presented. The electric field sensor using
waveguide was fabricated and qualitatively investigated the characteristics by measuring the low frequency electric field. Even though the sensor showed very low modulation index of 5%, the electric filed strength of 5 V/cm was measured. The experimental results revealed the utilities of this type electric field sensor.
Reliability improvement of an ion-measuring system using FET sensor array

In general cases, compared with glass electrode, FET type electrolyte sensors have many advantages. But the drift, memory effect and the poor reproducibility of the FET type electrolyte sensor cause the decrease of the reliability in the measurement system. To improve the reliability, an ion-measuring system using FET type electrolyte sensor array with 8 sensors has been developed. Developed system employed the electronic switchs to connect a signal detecting circuit with 8 sensor array and the system can measure ion concentration of 4 different type electrolyte(
). The signal processing algorithm with insertion sorting method was adopted to enhance the reliability. We measured 3 different ion(
) to evaluate the performance of developed system. The results show that the designed signal processing algorithm can reduce the error range in comparison with a simple arithmetic mean and the developed system has a good reliability over the previous single channel sensor system.
Construction of Precision Measurement Interferometer for Standard Ball Diameter

We constructed an interferometer for precise measurement of the ball diameter, and measured the diameter of steel ball with a diameter of 78 mm. The interferometer was consisted of etalon to instal ball between two parallel plates and placed on the monolithic flexure to be moved parallel. The ball diameter was calculated from phase difference of one pair of signals interfered between the both sides of ball and two parallel plates, and the signals was observed by photodetectors with scanning the etalon. The results showed that the diameter of steel ball was 78.1893544 mm and measurement uncertainty of 29 nm in confidence level of 95.5%.
