Implementation of a Fluxgate Sensor using Ferrite Ring Core

In this paper, we have presented an one-axis fluxgate magnetic sensor with ferrite core, excitation, and pick-up coil. This magnetometer is consist of a sensing element, driving circuits for excitation coil and signal processing for detecting second harmonic frequency component which is proportional to the DC magnetic to be measured. The sensor core is excited by a square waveform of voltage through 82 turns of the excitation coil. The second harmonic output of pick-up coil(150 turns) is measured by a FFT spectrum analyzer. This result is compared to output of PSD(phase sensitive detector) unit for detecting a second harmonic component. The measured sensitivity is about 50 V/T at driving frequency of 2 kHz. The nonlinearity of fluxgate magnetic sensor is calculated about 2.0%.
Performance of Differential Field Effect Transistors with Porous Gate Metal for Humidity Sensors

Differential field effect transistors with double gate metal for integrated humidity sensors have been fabricated and the drain current drift characteristics to relative humidity have been investigated. The aspect ratio was 250/50 for both transistors to get the current difference between the sensing device and non-sensing one. The normalized drain current of the fabricated humidity sensitive field effect transistors increases from 0.12 to 0.3, as relative humidity increases from 30% to 90%.
A study on the mechanical behavior of the optical fiber sensors embedded in the composite laminate

Tensile stress loaded on smart composite structures and thermal stress occurred during the during process of the smart composite materials with embedded optical fiber sensors affect directly the mechanical behavior of the embedded optical fiber sensors within the smart composite structures. Stress distribution within the optical fiber sensors varies with respect to the stacking sequence of the composite laminate and the coating conditions of the optical fibers. The cracks occurred within the composite laminate affect not only the fracture of the composite laminate but also the fracture of the optical fiber sensors embedded within the composite laminate. In this study, firstly, stress distribution of the optical fiber sensors embedded within the composite laminate which is subjected to the tensile and thermal stresses was analyzed using Finite Element Method. And, secondly, the effect of the stacking sequence of the composite laminate and the coating conditions of the optical fiber sensors on the stress distribution of the optical fiber sensors was investigated. Finally, the effect of the crack occurred within the smart composite laminate on the fracture behavior of the optical fiber sensors was also observed through the tensile test.
Hydrogen Gas Sensing Characteristics of Pd-SiC Schottky Diode

A Pd-SiC Schottky diode for detection of hydrogen gas operating at high temperature was explored. Hydrogen-sensing behaviors of Pd-SiC Schottky diode were analyzed as a function of hydrogen concentration and temperature by I-V and
-t methods under steady-state and transient conditions. The effect of hydrogen adsorption on the barrier height was investigated. Analysis of the steady-state kinetics using I-V method confirmed that the atomistic hydrogen adsorption process is responsible for the barrier height change in the diode.

An explosive gas recognition system using neural networks

In this paper, we have implemented a gas recognition system for classification and identification of explosive gases such as methane, propane, and butane using a sensor array and an artificial neural network. Such explosive gases which can be usually detected in the oil factory and LPG pipeline are very dangerous for a human being. We analyzed the characteristics of a multi-dimensional sensor signals obtained from the nine sensors using the principal component analysis(PCA) technique. Also, we implemented a gas pattern recognizer using a multi-layer neural network with error back propagation learning algorithm, which can classify and identify the sorts of gases and concentrations for each gas. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed gas recognition system is effective to identify the explosive gases. And also, we used DSP board(TMS320C31) to implement the proposed gas recognition system using the neural network for real time processing.
Assessment of Cutting Performance Using AE Sensor in Turning

The chips may be produced in the form of either broken chips or unbroken chips in turning process. The unbroken chips are dangerous to the operator and difficult to handle at high speed machining. The signal of Acoustic Emission is related to cutting conditions, tool materials, test conditions and tool geometry in turning. The relationship between AE signal and chip formation was experimentally investigated. The experimental results show that two types of chip formations are possible to classify from the statistical analysis of the amplitude of AE signal. The AE-sensor could be used to monitor the chip condition in turning.
Crystalline structure and electrical properties of PbSe thin films prepared using PLD method

. The measurement of Hall effect indicated that PbSe thin films were n-type semiconductors and that current-voltage characteristic curve exhibit the typical p-n junction phenomenon. In addition, electric conductivity of PbSe thin films was found somewhat higher than that of general semiconductors.
A study on the Fabrication and Characterization of Alumina Electrostatic Chuck for Silicon Wafer Processing

Alumina electrostatic chucks for silicon wafer process with wide range of electrical resistivity were fabricated by controlling the amount of
