Sasang Constitutional Medicine and Incurable Disease
Park, Gae-Su ; Song, Il-Byung ;
Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 1~6
1.Objects of Research This research is purposed to find methods of treatment on serious diseases, through summarizing etiology, classification and treatment on serious diseases proposed in Sasang constitutional medicine 2.Methods of Research It was researched as bibliologically with Dong-mu's chief medical writings such as
Dongyi Soose Bowon(東醫壽世保元)
Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)
3.Results and Conclusions 1. The principle of treatment in the previous medicine is to treat each disease by 'Assisting-Good Qi' and 'Removig-Bad Qi'. but The principle of treatment in Sasang Constitutional medicine is to manage incurable disease by helping 'Essential Qi of each constitution(體質正氣)' 2. Incurable disease is classified into a chronic disease by 'Nature(性氣)' and a acute disease by 'Emotion(情慾)'. Both diseases became serious through 'Noi-Ok(牢獄)' and 'Wi-Gyoung(危傾)'. A chronic disease is much in the middle years of life and become senile disease. A acute disease is much in the young years of life and make patients die young. 3. prognoses of incurable disease are different from degree of Inherent vitality(命脈實數) and term of disease. The case in which Inherent vitality is exhausted is thought that is unable to treat. 4. The prevention of incurable disease Is more important the treatment of one in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. but if incurable disease is caught, Medicine(醫藥) and management(調養) must be used together for treatment of incurable disease. Medicine is more important in the level of 'Noi-Ok(牢獄)' and management is more important in the level of 'Wi-Gyoung(危傾)'. 5. Therefore, incurable disease should be treated by method that 'Essential Qi of each constitution(體質正氣)' is recovered and declination is removed through 'controlling mind(治心) and correcting Qi(正氣), so then the state of 'Golden mean(中庸)' is reached.

Purpose The goal of this study tried to provide aging and life span in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods It was researched Master Dong-Mu's documentary records about aging and the life span represented by
Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chobongyun
Dongyi Soose Bowon
published in 1901. Results & conclusion 1. A principal of regimen according to Sasang Constitutional Medicine isn't medicational method but non-medicational method. There are control mind and upright oneself. 2. Dong-Mu's the views of the span of life represented by 'Inherent vitality' that a term means health promoting and forecasting length of the life. He also emphasizied a natural power of recovery from damaged vitality. 3. Greed is reduced one's lifetime. It is originated by bias for 'joy-anger -sorrow-pleasure'. The other example is 'Liquor-Sex-Property- Authority'. 4. The way of prolonging lifetime what managed small visceral intestines through constitutional upright oneself. This is found on pathology, care of health and constitutional 'Knowledge and Deed'.
A Supplementary Study for Sasangin Identifing
Lee, Eui-Ju ;
Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 17~32
Objectives ; A Supplementary Study for Sasangin Identifing is based on Chapter Pathophysiology Part V of [Donggyi Soose Bowon Chobonguan]. And I try to explain that with Sasang Constitutional Theory. After all I want this study given the basis of 'The Guideline of Sasangin's Diagnosis & Treatment(GSDT)'. Methods ; First, I divid
into 4 cartegories (Normal Condition, Abnormal Condition, good or bad Condition, Better or Worse Condition). And then each symtom is analyzed by Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM). Conclusions; I am sure that it gives the first step toward Indentifying Sasangin of [Donggyi Soose Bowon]. All of Sasangin Identifing Supplementary are analyzed by SCM. They are divided the identifing for Sasangin classification and Sasangin diagnosis of the disease. And this study will give the basis of ‘GSDT’.
The study on the formative process of Soyangin prescription
Park, Seong-Sik ; Bae, Hyo-Sang ;
Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 33~51
1. Purpose This study is intended to catch the expasion of theory of Sasang Constitutional Medicine through comparision DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and DongyiSooseBowon Gabobon. 2. Method I compared the Soyangin's prescription and medications of DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with those of DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and Dongyisoosebowon Gabobon. 3. Result and conclusion 1) Soyangin's Medications of the same kind in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopann's are thirty-two; like Bangpoong(防風), Hyeunggye(荊芥), Sangjihwang(生地黃), sukgo(石膏), etc. And these medications are the principle in Soyangin's disease. 2) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopanbon's are Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). Chopanbon's Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯) is more rational and effective prescription. 3) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's are eleven; Bangpoongtongseungsan(防風通聖散), chengumdojuksan(千金導赤散), etc. These prescriptions are similar in the structure. 4) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Gabobon's prescriptions and Chopanbon's are five; Hyungbangpaedoksan(荊防敗毒散), Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). etc. These Prescriptions make a change in the structure from Gabobon's to Chopanbon's. As this we know that Dongmu(東武) selected Sasang Constitutional prescription and medication in detail as he has the more experience of treatment.

Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 74~84
The purpose of study is 584 patients who had been treated in the Oriental Medical Hospital at Dong Eui Medical Center during 1 year from February 2001 to January 2002. We proceeded the judgment of Sasang constitution by 'Questiinaire of Sasang Constitution Classification(I)' and 'Questiinaire of Sasang Constitution Classification II(QSCCII)'. The following conclusion were made in comparison with Sasang Constitution and Questiinaire about disease and style of symptoms. 1. The subject of 'increase of the weight of a body(gain weight), cough, nasal discharge(rhinorrhea), stuffed nose, sweatier, more like fat food, more like salty food', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Taeum group is more than of Soeum group and Soyang group. 2. The subject of 'the complextion is bad, anorexia, indigestion, nervousness, sonitus', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soeum group is more than of Taeum group and Soyang group. 3. The subject of 'urodynia, otic discharge', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soyang group is more than of Taeum group and Soeum group.

Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 132~145
The purpose of this study is to examine the toxic effects caused by xanthine oxidase/hypoxanthine(XO/HX) and the effects of herbal extracts such as Cheongsimyeonjatang(CYT) on the treatment of the toxic effects. For this purpose, experiments with the cultured hippocampal cells from new born mice were done. The results of these experiments were as follows. 1. XO/HX, a oxygen radical-generating system, decreased the survival rates of the cultured cells on MTT assay and NR assay, protein synthesis, and amounts of neurofilaments. 2. CYT have the efficacy of increasing protein synthesis decreased by XO/HX. 3. CYT have the efficacy. of increasing the amount of neurofilaments decreased by XO/HX. From the above results, it is suggested that Cheongsimyeonjatang (CYT) have marked efficacy as a protection for the damages caused by the XO/HX-mediated oxidative stress.

Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 153~159
Parkinson's disease(PD) is characterized by chronic progress of mesencephalic dopaminergic neuronal death. Diagnostic criteria for PD require at least two of three motor sign: tremor, rigidity, or bradykinesia. Levodopa and the dopamine agonists are considerd first-line drug therapy. In the book ‘dongyi soose bowon(東醫壽世保元)’, Soyangin Gihwangbeakho-tang(地黃白虎湯) is used at Soyangin Interior-overheated-disease. This case is patient who is 69 years old lady, suffered by the tremor of jaw and a slight rigidity, bradykinesia etc. This patient was classified as Soyangin by features, somatotype and emotional patterns. She improved in the tremor of jaw and others with Gihwangbeakho-tang for 67days. The result revealed that Soyangin-Gihwangbeakho-tang was effected on the tremor of jaw and others with Parkinson's disease patient.

Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 174~180
The jaundice means hyperbilirubinemia that it happens bilirubin is contained for much in the blood for the disorder of formation and evaluation about bilirubin. The dry nut is one of the representative medicine which made use of Tae eum in bokchang bujong byung(태음인의 복창부종병) and that is marked use of removing the obstruction of tae eum in, by removing the damping heat(습열) and that is to depend on not the circle of medicine but the food The diet cure of a dry nut might be profound in meaning because the jaundice, the disorder of liver and gall, can be considered in relation to Tae eum in bokchang bujong byung(태음인의 복창부종병) I make a report in the basis of the reliably remedial value about application of a diet cure that a dry not is used to the patient coming to my hospital for the jaundice of ruing his health in eating and drinking
A Case Report of The Interior Disease of Taeyangin
Lee, Sang-Yong ; Jung, Sung-Min ; Cha, Jae-Deog ; Kim, Kyung-Sok ;
Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, volume 14, issue 3, 2002, Pages 181~187
The Interior Disease of Taeyangin(太陽人裏病證) is typical syndrome in the Taeyangin pathology taking nausea, vomiting and dyspepsia. However, The Interior Disease of Taeyangin is difficult to classify because Taeyangin patients are relatively few and published studies about Taeyangin pathology are rare. This patient was a 69-year-old man who had nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia and epigastric pain and had been diagnosed and treated as Gastric ulcer before. We classified this patient as The Interior Disease of Taeyangin and prescribed Mihudeungsikjangtang(??藤植腸湯). We experienced the good effect of Mihudeungsikjangtang on The Interior Disease of Taeyangin. We report the healing process and the result of treatment in this study.
