Modeling and Rendering of Clouds for Real-time Flight Simulation

Modeling and rendering of atmospheric phenomena such as clouds is one of most difficult research themes in the field of computer graphics, mainly due to its complexity, huge volume, ubiquitousness, etc. In this paper, we represent a system for real-time modeling and rendering of clouds, mainly aiming at the computer games and flight simulation applications. Our implementation generates various kinds of clouds including cirrus, stratus, and cumulus, through intuitive real-timeuser interactions. Then, additional details are automatically attached to them, using our own methods based on meta-balls or hierarchical spherical particles. After processing multiple scattering and anisotropic scattering, resulting particles are rendered into billboards, to finally achieve real-time processing.
Constant Time RMESH Algorithm for Computing Longest Common Substring and Maximal Repeat of String

Since string operations were applied to computational biology area, various data structures and algorithms for computing efficient string operations have been studied. The longest common substring problem is an operation to find the longest matching substring in more than two strings, and maximal repeat of string problem is an operation to find substrings repeated more than once in the given string. These operations are importantly used in the string processing area such as pattern matching and likelihood measurement. In this paper, we present algorithms to compute the longest common substring of two strings and to find the maximal repeat of string using three-dimensional
processors on RMESH(Reconfigurable MESH). Our algorithms have O(1) time complexity.
Prefetching Based Adaptive Media Playout for Seamless Media Streaming

Recently, with the advance of computing and networking technique, the high speed internet becomes widespread, however, it is still hard job to do streaming the media which requires high network bandwidth over the internet. Previous researches for streaming over the internet mainly proposed techniques that controls the QoS(Quality of Service) of the media in proportion to the network status. Though, this could be the solution for the service provider while the service user who wants constant QoS may not satisfy with variable QoS. In the paper, we propose a network adaptive prefetching technique, PAP, for guarantee of constant QoS. The PAP prefetches frames by increasing the frame transmission rate while the available network bandwidth is high. The PAP uses the prefetched frames to guarantee the QoS while the available network bandwidth is low and increases the playout interval to prevent buffer underflow. The experiment result shows that the proposed PAP could guarantee the constant QoS by prefetching the frames adaptively to the network bandwidth with the characteristic of video stream.
A Client Agent Framework for Dynamic Connection with Web Services

In order to connect web services, clients generally should use heavy frameworks such as .Net framework and Java run-time environment, which require high performance hardware resources like a personal computer. Therefore, it is impossible for sensor nodes to handle web services due to their limited resources. In this paper, a client agent framework is proposed for dynamically connecting web services in the client node with limited resources. A client agent, which is managed by the framework in other server, has full capability for connecting web services, while a real client has a simple connection module with the client agent. In this framework, a client agent is dynamically generated using the WSDL in the web service server. By using the framework, sensor nodes or mobile devices can enhance their functionalities and services by accessing web services with minimum resources.
Early Start Branch Prediction to Resolve Prediction Delay

Precise branch prediction is a critical factor in the IPC Improvement of modern microprocessor architectures. In addition to the branch prediction accuracy, branch prediction delay have a profound impact on overall system performance as well. However, it tends to be overlooked when the architects design the branch predictor. To tolerate branch prediction delay, this paper proposes Early Start Prediction (ESP) technique. The proposed solution dynamically identifies the start instruction of basic block, called as Basic Block Start Address (BB_SA), and the solution uses BB_SA when predicting the branch direction, instead of branch instruction address itself. The performance of the proposed scheme can be further improved by combining short interval hiding technique between BB_SA and branch instruction. The simulation result shows that the proposed solution hides prediction latency, with providing same level of prediction accuracy compared to the conventional predictors. Furthermore, the combination with short interval hiding technique provides a substantial IPC improvement of up to 10.1%, and the IPC is actually same with ideal branch predictor, regardless of branch predictor configurations, such as clock frequency, delay model, and PHT size.
An Efficient WLAN Device Power Control Technique for Streaming Multimedia Contents over Mobile IP Storage

Mobile IP storage has been proposed to overcome storage limitation in the flash memory and hard disks. It provides almost capacity-free space for mobile devices over wireless IP networks. However, battery lifetime of the mobile devices is reduced rapidly because of power consumption with continuous use of a WLAN device when multimedia contents are being streamed through the mobile IP storage. This paper proposes an energy-efficient WLAN device power control technique for streaming multimedia contents with the mobile IP storage. The proposed technique consists of a prefetch buffer input/output module, a WLAN device power control module, and a reconfigurable prefetch buffer module. Besides, it adaptively determines the size of the prefetch buffer according to a quality of the multimedia contents, and it dynamically controls the power mode of the WLAN device on the basis of power on-off operations while streaming the multimedia contents. We evaluate the performance of the proposed technique on a PXA270-based mobile device that employs the embedded linux 2.6.11, Intel iSCSI reference codes, and a WLAN device. Extensive experiments reveal that the proposed technique can save the energy consumption of the WLAN device up to 8.5 times with QVGA multimedia contents, as compared with no power control.
An Extended SNMP Scheme for a Digital Convergence Device with Control Functions

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a standard protocol for management of network devices, and it provides excellent features such as scalability, information management, authentication, encryption, and access control. However, SNMP has a structural weakness to fully support control functions for integrated management of digital convergence devices, and it has a limitation of message length in SNMP communication. In this paper, we present an extended SNMP scheme for integrated management of digital convergence devices with control functions. We modified the SNMP architecture by adding DDS (Device Driver Subsystem) to SNMP engine for controlling different devices and by defining CADM (Control Agent Driver Model), therefore we solved the ambiguity problem between `set` and `control` of SNMP. And the extended SNMP made it easy for SNMP applications to use various control functions. The extended SNMP can transport massive high-level information by adding three new SNMP commands which eliminate the limit of message length.
Location for a Car Crash and The Service System

The spread of wireless Internet technology development and applications with location information in the form of location-based services are becoming more diverse. In particular, where you recognize the location of objects such as people and things and to provide valuable services based on the ubiquitous and location-based services are emerging as an important service. The collision between the vehicle position measurement in this thesis and offers related service system. Used in the proposed system, the GPS PACKET with information about the location and time of collision for the vehicle crash, the vehicle consists of a NodeID. Cause a conflict between these data at the vehicle, the vehicle through the gateway from the server to decide whether to go on to determine that an emergency situation, Emergency Center, the location information and giving information about whether the conflict is measured. Also, for such an emergency, such as a family on the outside of the wireless terminal related to Wireless (PDA, Phone) is to let me know. The server to want to save the crash information to the database of configuration. Additionally, the proposed U-LBS system to verify the validity of the experiment was performed.
Video Adaptation Model for User-Centric Contents Delivery in Mobile Computing

Lately the usage of multimedia equipment with small LCD displays is rapidly increasing. Although many people use devices like this, videos intended for TV or HDTV are sent to these mobile devices. Therefore cases where it is hard for the user to view the desired scenes are growing more frequent. Currently, most services simply reduce the size of the content to fit the screen when they offer it for mobile devices. However, especially with sports broadcasts, there are many areas that cannot be seen very well because it was simply reduced in size. We therefore consider this weakness and are researching how to let the user choose an area of interest and then sending it to the user in a way that fits the device. In this paper, we address the problem of video delivery and personalization. For the delivered video content, we suggest the UP-SAM User Personalized Context-Aware Service Adaptation Middleware) model that uses the video content description and MPEG-21 multimedia framework.
Analysis of the Satisfaction and Effectiveness Awareness of Cyber Home Learning System for the Low-Income Bracket Children

Since 2005, Cyber home learning systems(CHLS) have been run with the purpose of clearing up the regional disparity and reducing the private education cost. At this point, it is necessary to have the analysis on the satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS. The goal of this paper is to suggest an evaluation model for satisfaction and pedagogical effectiveness of CHLS and to support the management of satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Our major contributions can be summarized as follows: First, we present an evaluation model of satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Second, we survey the satisfaction, effectiveness awareness and improvement facts from the students who divided according to their sex, residence area and classes and compare with suggesting evaluation models. This paper is to find the measurement of the satisfaction and effectiveness awareness of the CHLS for the low-income bracket children. Furthermore, we can use this model as a material to balance the education opportunity, which is the purpose of CHLS, and abolish the education differentials.
The Development of Intelligent On-line Quiz Authoring Tool based on Bayesian Inference Network

In this paper, we present an on-line quiz authoring software that helps teachers create an intelligent on-line quiz. It is designed to give each student appropriate diagnostic report using Bayesian inference networks that represent the relationships among knowledge-items. Once the authors design and edit quizzes in quiz authoring page, the authoring tool automatically produces a knowledge-model based on Bayesian inference network, on-line quizzes, and student report pages. It turns out that the on-line quizzes generated by this tool help students identify their weak parts of subject, make learning strategies for the next learning steps and carry out supplementary learning for their weak knowledge-items.
