Improving the Performance of Web Search using Query Types

The Web is rich with various sources of information. Due to the massive and heterogeneous web document collections, users want to find various types of target pages. Each type of information for Web search has designated queries. If a user query is not a designated query, then we cannot have good result documents. Different strategies are needed to utilize the goodness of each type of information for a search engine. If we know the property of information, then we can refine candidate pages and rank them delicately. Various experiments are conducted to show the properties of each type of information. Therefore, we show an appropriate combining formula to utilize the properties of each type of information. In addition, for a service finding task, we propose Service Link Information that utilizes the existence of mechanisms for a user interaction.
Automatic Document Classification Using Multiple Classifier Systems

Combining multiple classifiers to obtain improved performance over the individual classifier has been a widely used technique. The task of constructing a multiple classifier system(MCS) contains two different Issues how to generate a diverse set of base-level classifiers and how to combine their predictions. In this paper, we review the characteristics of existing multiple classifier systems : Bagging, Boosting, and Slaking. For document classification, we propose new MCSs such as Stacked Bagging, Stacked Boosting, Bagged Stacking, Boosted Stacking. These MCSs are a sort of hybrid MCSs that combine advantages of existing MCSs such as Bugging, Boosting, and Stacking. We conducted some experiments of document classification to evaluate the performances of the proposed schemes on MEDLINE, Usenet news, and Web document collections. The result of experiments demonstrate the superiority of our hybrid MCSs over the existing ones.
Automatic Classification of Web documents According to their Styles

A genre or a style is another view of documents different from a subject or a topic. The style is also a criterion to classify the documents. There have been several studies on detecting a style of textual documents. However, only a few of them dealt with web documents. In this paper we suggest sets of features to detect styles of web documents. Web documents are different from textual documents in that Dey contain URL and HTML tags within the pages. We introduce the features specific to web documents, which are extracted from URL and HTML tags. Experimental results enable us to evaluate their characteristics and performances
Sentence ion : Sentence Revision with Concept ion

Sentence ion is a simplification of a sentence preserving its communicative function. It accomplishes sentence revision and concept ion simultaneously. Sentence revision is a method that resolves the discrepancy between human`s thoughts and its expressed semantic in sentences. Concept ion is an expression of general ideas acquired from the common elements of concepts. Sentence ion selects the main constituents of given sentences and describes the upper concepts of them with detecting their semantic information. This enables sen fence revision and concept ion simultaneously. In this paper, a syntactic parser LGPI+ and an ontology OfN are utilized for sentence ion. Sentence abstracter SABOT makes use of LGPI+ and OfN. SABOT processes the result of parsing and selects the candidate words for sentence ion. This paper computes the sentence recall of the main sentences and the topic hit ratio of the selected sentences with the text understanding system using sentence ion. The sources are 58 paragraphs in 23 stories. As a result of it, the sentence recall is about .54 ～ 72% and the topic hit ratio is about 76 ～ 86%. This paper verified that sentence ion enables sentence revision that can select the topic sentences of a given text efficiently and concept ion that can improve the depth of text understanding.
Semantic Image Retrieval Using RDF Metadata Based on the Representation of Spatial Relationships

As the modern techniques have improved, people intend to store and manage the information on the web. Especially, it is the image data that is given a great deal of weight of the information because of the development of the scan and popularization of the digital camera and the cell-phone`s camera. However, most image retrieval systems are still based on the text annotations while many images are creating everyday on the web. In this paper, we suggest the new approach for the semantic image retrieval using the RDF metadata based on the representation of the spatial relationships. For the semantic image retrieval, firstly we define the new vocabularies to represent the spatial relationships between the objects in the image. Secondly, we write the metadata about the image using RDF and new vocabularies. Finally. we could expect more correct result in our image retrieval system.
Contend Base Image Retrieval using Color Feature of Central Region and Optimized Comparing Bin

In this paper, we proposed a content-based image retrieval using a color feature for central region and its optimized comparing bin method. Human`s visual characteristic is influenced by existent of central object. So we supposed that object is centrally located in image and then we extract color feature at central region. When the background of image is simple, the retrieval result can be bad affected by major color of background. Our method overcome this drawback as a result of the human visual characteristic. After we transform Image into HSV color space, we extract color feature from the quantized image with 16 level. The experimental results showed that the method using the eight high rank bin is better than using the 16 bin The case which extracts the feature with image`s central region was superior compare with the case which extracts the feature with the whole image about 5%.
XCRAB : A Content and Annotation-based Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval System

During recent years, a new framework, which aims to bring a unified and global approach in indexing, browsing and querying various digital multimedia data such as audio, video and image has been developed. This new system partitions each media stream into smaller units based on actual physical events. These physical events within oath media stream can then be effectively indexed for retrieval. In this paper, we present a new approach that exploits audio, image and video features to segment and analyze the audio-visual data. Integration of audio and visual analysis can overcome the weakness of previous approach that was based on the image or video analysis only. We Implement a web-based multi media data retrieval system called XCRAB and report on its experiment result.
CyberClass Avatar System using Task-Level Behavior Description Language

In spite of recent increase in the use of avatar systems in Web and Virtual Reality, there has not been a service that allows users to control directly the avatar behaviors. In addition, the conventional behavior control languages required a lot of complicated information for controlling the behaviors, so that users had difficulty using them. To apply written languages to a different task domain, moreover, it was necessary to modify or rewrite the languages. In this paper, for the avatar behavior control more simply define, “Task-Level Behavior Description Language,” which allows description the avatar behaviors in each task domain and “Motion Representation Language,” which enables writing detailed data for motion control. The system, developed in this paper, “included an Interpreter,” which automatically creates the Motion Representation Language, allowing users to easily control the avatar behaviors simply with the Behavior Description Language. The system was also applied to cyber classes, and the Task-level Behavior Description Language was compared with conventional languages to see how it was more effective in behavior description.
Design and Algorithm Implementation of a Distributed Information Retrieval System using Sequential Transferring Method(STM)

The distributed Information Retrieval System centrally controlled by mediator or meta search engine result in congestion of heavy traffic and int he problem of increment of cost for the reason of the design of complicated algorithm for central control and installation of hardware. So to figure out this problem, the way is needed that has independent retrieval functionality and can cooperate each other without dependency. In this paper, we overview a few works involved in distributed information retrieval system, then, implement algorithm and design the frame-work of distributed information retrieval system using sequential transferring method(STM) including multiple information retrieval system separated from central control. For this first of all, we present a web partition policy which devide and manage web logically and we present the sequential query processing way by means of illustration through changing numbered information retrieval system. Then, we also present 3-layered structure of framework and function and module of each layer suitable for information retrieval system. Last of ail, for effective implementation of STM algorithm we analysis module structure and present description of pseudocode of this, and show that the proposed STM algorithm works smoothly by demonstration of sequential query transfer process between servers.
Design and Implementation of Distribution in Distributed Object-Oriented Databases

This paper addresses the design and implementation of class distribution in distributed object-oriented databases. The proposed strategy of distribution consists of two-step design of fragments. One is class fragmentation and the other is allocation of fragments. In step of class fragmentation, we have defined partitioning algorithms to reflect the characteristics of object-oriented databases such as method, inheritance and composite-object. In step of allocation, we have defined the objective function for allocation considering system operating cost including storage, query processing and communication and implemented it using Genetic Algorithm.
RDF Document validator and N-Triple Generator for Creation mil Maintenance of Metadata

The quantity of business information like to be shared enterprise information and business catalog quickly increased because of activating e-commerce. Necessary of metadata management which is using RDF was required. RDF metadata management does not have to be restricted by RDF/RDFS knowledges, has to describe web resources and has to support metadata validation. But research which supports this is not enough. In this paper we enable to create and manage RDF/RDFS document using various interfaces, change from metadata to N-Triple and verify metadata validation.
