A Study on Conformance Testing Method to Verify the BioAPI Based System Module

Recently the biometric recognition technology is intensively studied and the standardization of the technology has been highly demanded for its commercialization. Currently many blometric recognition products are being developed based on the BioAPl(Biometric Application Program-ming Interface) specification. However, the reliable testing tools (or scenarios) to evaluate performance and conformance of the products are not shown yet. In this paper, a conformance testing method is presented, which verifies a biometric recognition system to meet the requirements of the BioAPl standard. Two different testing procedures are used in the proposed method. The first procedure evaluates that each functions offered in the BioAPl specification are correctly implemented and that the functions are actually used in the system. Through the Procedure, a BSP(Biometric Service Provider) system is executed on the framework of the BioAPl functions. It requires selection of parameters and prece-dent functions that should be executed first. The second procedure evaluates the abilities of module management, handling operations and ver-ification process by the analysis of the test cases. It tests the correctness of the system operation when a testing scenario is given. The proposed testing method is applied on a fingerprint verification BSP using the sample BSP provided by the BioAPl consortium. The experimental results shows the benefits of the proposed testing method.
A Study on Object Segmentation Using Snake Algorithm in Disparity Space

Object segmentation is a challenging Problem when the background is cluttered and the objects are overlapped one another. Recent develop-ment using snake algorithms proposed to segment objects from a 2-D Image presents a higher possibilityfor getting better contours. However, the performance of those snake algorithms degrades rapidly when the background is cluttered and objects are overlapped one another, Moreover, the initial snake point placement is another difficulty to be resolved. Here, we propose a novel snake algorithm for object segmentation using disparity information taken from a set of stereo images. By applying our newly designed snake energy function defined in the disparity space, our algorithmeffectively circumvents the limitations found in the previous methods. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been verified by computer simulation using various stereo image sets. The experiment results have exhibited a better performance over the well-known snake algorithm in terms of segmentation accuracy.
An Image Contrast Enhancement Method Using Brightness Preseving on the Linear Approximation CDF

In this paper, we have proposed an image contrast control method using brightness preserving on the FPD(Flat Panel Display). The proposed method can be easily applied to the FPD required real-time processing, since hardware complexity is greatly reduced using linear approximation method of CDF(Cumulative Density Function). For effective processing of the proposed algorithm, we have utilized the sample value of CDF and Barrel Shift. Visual test and standard deviation of their histogram have been introduced to evaluate the resultant output images of the pro-posed method and the original ones.
An XML-based Multimedia News Management System

With recent progress of related multimedia computing technologies, it is necessay to retrieve diverse types of multimedia data based on multi-media content and their relationships. However, different from alphanumeric data, it is difficult to provide relevant multimedia information, be-cause multimedia contents and their relationships are implied in multimedia data. Therefore, in case of a multimedia news service system that is a representative multimedia application, most of new services provide relevant news about text articles and retrieval of multimedia news such as video news or image news are provided independently. In this paper, we present an XML-based multimedia news management system, which provides integrating, retrieval, and delivery of relevant multimedia news. Our data model composed of media object, relationship object, and view object represents diverse types of multimedia news content and semantically related multimedia news. In addition, a proposed view mechanism makes it possible to customize multimedia news, and therefore provides multimedia news efficiently.
Design and Implementation of Navigation-Aid for 3D Virtual Environment using Topic Map

Users in 3D virtual environment get limited information which contains mostly images. It is the main reason for users getting lost during their Navigation. Various studies of Navigation-Aid have been done in order to solve this problem. In this study, we applied Topic Maps, which is one of semantic Web techniques, to the navigation in a 3D virtual environment. Topic Maps construct semantic linking maps through defining the relations between topics. Experiments in which Topic Map based Navigation-Aid was applied have shown that the Navigation-Aid was effective when the subjects find a detailed target rather than a highly represented one. Also, offering information around the target helped the users to find the target when they navigated without having specific targets.
A Fast Universal Video Distribution Protocol For Video-On-Demand Systems

The performance of video-on-demand(VOD) systems is known to be mainly dependent on a scheduling mechanism which they employ. Broadcast-based scheduling schemes have attracted a lot of attention as an efficient way of distributing popular videos to very large client populations. The main motivations of broadcasting scheduling mechanisms are that they scale up extremely well and they have very modest bandwidth requirements. This paper studies this issue and proposes a new broadcasting scheduling mechanism, named fast universal video dis-tribution(FUVD). FUVD scheme dynamically constructs a video broadcasting schedule in response to client requests, and broadcasts video seg-ments according to this schedule. This paper also evaluates the performance of FUVD on the basis of a simulation approach. The simulation results indicate that FUVD protocol shows a superior performance over UD, CBHD, and NPB in terms of the average response time.
Robust Watermarking for Digital Images in Geometric Distortions Using FP-ICA of Secant Method

This paper proposes a digital image watermarking which is robust to geometric distortions using an independent component analysis(ICA) of fixed-point(FP) algorithm based on secant method. The FP algorithm of secant method is applied for better performance in a separation time and rate, and ICA is applied to reject the prior knowledges for original image, key, and watermark such as locations and size, etc. The proposed method embeds the watermark into the spatial domain of original image The proposed watermarking technique has been applied to lena, key, and two watermarks(text and Gaussian noise) respectively. The simulation results show that the proposed method has higher speed and better rate for extracting the original images than the FP algorithm of Newton method. And the proposed method has a watermarking which is robust to geometric distortions such as resizing, rotation, and cropping. Especially, the watermark of images with Gaussian noise has better extraction performance than the watermark with text since Gaussian noise has lower correlation coefficient than the text to the original and key images. The watermarking of ICA doesn`t require the prior knowledge for the original images.
A Logical Model of Collision Response for Simulation of the Virtual Environment

In this paper, we model the downward collision of a falling object to the base. We aim to provide maximum diversity of response to physical. collision. To this end, the primary design concern of the model is to unfold the collision phenomenon in a logical and natural manner, detailed enough to construct an immersive virtual environment. To achieve these requirements, first we determine domains for the characteristic of the material of the falling objects, and select the dominant force of the collision. We formulate the collision phenomena with combination of primitive attributes and their relationships. The formulated function evaluates the results of the collision in qualitative aspects as well as in quantitative aspects. Between the collision issues, `Collision Detection` and `Collision Response`, this paper focuses on Collision Response issue.
An Implementation of Intelligent Game Characters using Neural Networks

In this paper, we propose a scheme to implement intelligent game characters based on neural networks. Neural networks that implement in-telligent game character receive the action of an opponent character and the distance between them, decide intelligent character`s action, and output the decision. The neural networks are trained by reinforcement learning using the scores acquired by the actions of two characters as reinforcement values. To show the usefulness of the proposed scheme, a simple fighting action game is implemented and various experiments are performed. Experimental results show that proposed intelligent characters can learn the rule of the game. The proposed scheme can be ap-plied to massively multiple online games as well as fighting action games.
Evolutionary Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithms for Uniform Distributed Pareto Optimal Solutions

Evolutionary a1gorithms are well-suited for multi-objective optimization problems involving several, often conflicting objectives. Pareto-based evolutionary algorithms, in particular, have shown better performance than other multi-objective evolutionary algorithms in comparison. However, generalized evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithms have a weak point, in which the distribution of solutions are not uni-formly distributed onto Pareto optimal front. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary a1gorithm for multi-objective optimization which uses seed individuals in order to overcome weakness of algorithms Published. Seed individual means a solution which is not located in the crowded region on Pareto front. And the idea of our algorithm uses seed individuals for reproducing individuals for next generation. Thus, proposed a1go-rithm takes advantage of local searching effect because new individuals are produced near the seed individual with high probability, and is able to produce comparatively uniform distributed pareto optimal solutions. Simulation results on five testbed problems show that the proposed algo-rithm could produce uniform distributed solutions onto pareto optimal front, and is able to show better convergence compared to NSGA-II on all testbed problems except multi-modal problem.
An Efficient kNN Algorithm

This paper proposes an algorithm to enhance the execution time of kNN in the document classification. The proposed algorithm is to enhance the execution time by minimizing the computing cost of the similarity between two documents by using the list of
pairs, while the conventional kNN uses the iist of
pairs. The 1ist of
pairs can be obtained by applying the matrix transposition to the list of
pairs at the training phase of the document classification. This paper analyzed the proposed algorithm in the time complexity and compared it with the conventional kNN. And it compared the proposed algorithm with the conventional kNN by using routers-21578 data experimentally. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms kNN about
in terms of the ex-ecution time.
Fuzzy Rule Generation and Optimization for the Intelligent Diagnosis System of Diseases associated with Acute Abdominal Pain Based on Fuzzy Relational Products

This paper describes knowledge base optimization of an intelligent diagnosis system based on fuzzy relational products(IDS-DAAP) for the diseases with acute abdominal Pain. The knowledge base of IDS-DAAP is composed of the fuzzy rules and the fuzzy membership functions. The author here proposes an advanced intelligent diagnosis system (A-lDS-DAAP) in which the fuzzy rule generation algorithm is applied. Comparing with previous IDS-DAAP and IDS-DAAP-NN, a modified approach with A-IDS-DAAP shows that it improves the diagnosis rate and reduces the time to diagnose.

An Implementation of K-Means Algorithm Improving Cluster Centroids Decision Methodologies

K-Means algorithm is a non-hierarchical (plat) and reassignment techniques and iterates algorithm steps on the basis of K cluster centroids until the clustering results converge into K clusters. In its nature, K-Means algorithm has characteristics which make different results depending on the initial and new centroids. In this paper, we propose the modified K-Means algorithm which improves the initial and new centroids decision methodologies. By evaluating the performance of two algorithms using the 16 weighting scheme of SMART system, the modified algorithm showed
better results on recall and F-measure than those of K-Means algorithm, and the document clustering results are quite improved.

Multi-modal Biometrics System Based on Face and Signature by SVM Decision Rule

In this paper, we propose a multi-modal biometrics system based on face and signature recognition system. Here, the face recognition system is designed by fuzzy LDA, and the signature recognition system is implemented with the LDA and segment matching methods. To effectively aggregate two systems, we obtain statistical distribution models based on matching values for genuine and impostor, respectively. And then, the final verification is Performed by the support vector machine. From the various experiments, we find that the proposed method shows high recognition rates comparing with the conventional methods.
