Design and Implementation of the Spatial Data Cache Based on Agents for Providing Mobile Map Services

Mobile clients like a PDA need a cache and a spatial index to search and access map data efficiently. When a server transmits spatial objects to a mobile client which has a low storage capacity, some of them can be duplicated in a cache of the mobile client. Moreover, the cost for strong added data in the cache and reconfiguring spatial index is very high in the mobile client with low computing power. The scheme for processing duplicated objects and disturbing tasks of the mobile client which has low computing power is needed. In this paper, we classify the method for storing duplicated objects and present the scheme for the both caching objects and reconfiguring a spatial index of cached objects using the clipping technique. We propose the caching system based on an agent in order to distribute the overhead of a mobile client as well as to provide efficiently map services. We design and implement it, and evaluate the performance.
Design and Implementation of a Main-memory Storage System for Real-time Retrievals

Main Memory storage system can increase the performance of the system by assigning enough slack time to real-time transactions. Due to its high response time of main memory devices, main memory resident data management systems have been used for location management of personal mobile clients to cope with urgent location related operations. In this paper we have developed a multi-threaded main memory storage system as a core component of real-time retrieval system to handle a huge amount of readers and writers of main memory resident data. The storage system is implemented as an embedded component which is working with the help of a disk resident database system. It uses multi-threaded executions and utilizes latches for its concurrency control rather than complex locking method. It only saves most recent data on main memory and data synchronization is done only when disk resident database asks for update transactions. Concurrency Control and Recovery Methods for Multi-Dimensional Index Structures

In this paper, we propose an enhanced concurrency control algorithm that maximizes the concurrency of multi-dimensional index structures. The factors that deteriorate the concurrency of index structures are node splits and minimum bounding region (MBR) updates in multi-dimensional index structures. The proposed concurrency control algorithm introduces PLC(Partial Lock Coupling) technique to avoid lock coupling during MBR updates. Also, a new MBR update method that allows searchers to access nodes where MBR updates are being performed is proposed. To reduce the performance degradation by node splits the proposed algorithm holds exclusive latches not during whole split time but only during physical node split time that occupies the small part of a whole split process. For performance evaluation, we implement the proposed concurrency control algorithm and one of the existing link technique-based algorithms on MIDAS-3 that is a storage system of a BADA-4 DBMS. We show through various experiments that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm in terms of throughput and response time. Also, we propose a recovery protocol for our proposed concurrency control algorithm. The recovery protocol is designed to assure high concurrency and fast recovery.
Design of Three Dimensional Spatial Topological Relational Operators

As Geographic Information Systems represent three dimensional topological information, The Systems provide accurate and delicate services for users. In order to execute three dimensional topological operations, a dimensional transformation and heterogeneous spatial models should be used. However, the existing systems that use the dimensional transformation and the heterogeneous models, is not only difficult to operate the spatial operators, but also happened to support non-interoperability. Therefore, in order to solve the problems, we proposed three dimensional spatial object models that supported two dimensional object models and implemented them to show validity of the proposed models. When designing the three dimensional topological operators, we used 3DE-9IM which extended DE-9IM to support three dimensional concepts, and implemented operators on the component environment with object oriented concepts. The proposed three dimensional spatial object models and topological operators can support interoperability between systems, and execute spatial queries efficiently on three dimensional spatial objects.
A Query Processing Model based on the XML View in Relational Databases

This paper addresses the query processing component of a wrapper system for a relational database model based on the XML view in integrating databases. The schema of a relational database is represented as XML Schema that is proposed by W3C. Users submit a query using the XML query language XQuery over the XML Schema. The wrapper system to be developed supports an user-defined XML view. XQuery is also used as the view definition language. In this environment, this paper suggests a new XML query processing model. We propose the composition algorithm of an XML view with an user query, the translation algorithm of XQuery into SQL, and the XML template construction algorithm for generating XML documents.
Design and Implementation of A Distributed Information Integration System based on Metadata Registry

The mediator-based system integrates heterogeneous information systems with the flexible manner. But it does not give much attention on the query optimization issues, especially for the query reusing. The other thing is that it does not use standardized metadata for schema matching. To improve this two issues, we propose mediator-based Distributed Information Integration System (DIIS) which uses query caching regarding performance and uses ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry in terms of standardization. The DIIS is designed to provide decision-making support, which logically integrates the distributed heterogeneous business information systems based on the Web environment. We designed the system in the aspect of three-layer expression formula architecture using the layered pattern to improve the system reusability and to facilitate the system maintenance. The functionality and flow of core components of three-layer architecture are expressed in terms of process line diagrams and assembly line diagrams of Eriksson Penker Extension Model (EPEM), a methodology of an extension of UML. For the implementation, Supply Chain Management (SCM) domain is used. And we used the Web-based environment for user interface. The DIIS supports functions of query caching and query reusability through Query Function Manager (QFM) and Query Function Repository (QFR) such that it enhances the query processing speed and query reusability by caching the frequently used queries and optimizing the query cost. The DIIS solves the diverse heterogeneity problems by mapping MetaData Registry (MDR) based on ISO/IEC 11179 and Schema Repository (SCR).
A 3-Layered Information Integration System based on MDRs End Ontology

To share and standardize information, especially in the database environments, MDR (Metadata Registry) can be used to integrate various heterogeneous databases within a particular domain. But due to the discrepancies of data element representation between organizations, global information integration is not so easy. And users who are searching integrated information on the Web have limitation to obtain schema information for the underlying source databases. To solve those problems, in this paper, we present a 3-layered Information Integration System (LI2S) based on MDRs and Ontology. The purpose of proposed architecture is to define information integration model, which combine both of the nature of MDRs standard specification and functionality of ontology for the concept and relation. Adopting agent technology to the proposed model plays a key role to support the hierarchical and independent information integration architecture. Ontology is used as for a role of semantic network from which it extracts concept from the user query and the establishment of relationship between MDRs for the data element. (MDR and Knowledge Base are used as for the solution of discrepancies of data element representation between MDRs. Based on this architectural concept, LI2S was designed and implemented.
A Protein Sequence Prediction Method by Mining Sequence Data

A protein, which is a linear polymer of amino acids, is one of the most important bio-molecules composing biological structures and regulating bio-chemical reactions. Since the characteristics and functions of proteins are determined by their amino acid sequences in principle, protein sequence determination is the starting point of protein function study. This paper proposes a protein sequence prediction method based on data mining techniques, which can overcome the limitation of previous bio-chemical sequencing methods. After applying multiple proteases to acquire overlapped protein fragments, we can identify candidate fragment sequences by comparing fragment mass values with peptide databases. We propose a method to construct multi-partite graph and search maximal paths to determine the protein sequence by assembling proper candidate sequences. In addition, experimental results based on the SWISS-PROT database showing the validity of the proposed method is presented.
A Study of Standard eBook Contents Conversion

Many countries have established eBook standards adequate to their environments. In USA, OEB PS is announced for distribution and display of eBooks, in Japan, JepaX is announced for storage and exchange, and in Korea, EBKS is made for clear exchange of eBook contents. These diverse objectives lead to different content structures. These variety of content structure will cause a problem in exchanging them. To correctly exchange eBook contents, the content structure should be considered. So, In this paper, we study conversion methods of standard eBooks contents based on Korean eBook standard, with contemplating content structure. To convert contents properly, the mapping relations should be clearly defined. For this, we consider standard's structure and extension mechanisms, and use path notations and namespaces for precise description. Moreover, through analysis of each mapping relationships, we classify conversion cases into automatic, semi-automatic, and manual conversions. Finally we write up conversion scripts and experiment with them.
Sparse Web Data Analysis Using MCMC Missing Value Imputation and PCA Plot-based SOM

The knowledge discovery from web has been studied in many researches. There are some difficulties using web log for training data on efficient information predictive models. In this paper, we studied on the method to eliminate sparseness from web log data and to perform web user clustering. Using missing value imputation by Bayesian inference of MCMC, the sparseness of web data is removed. And web user clustering is performed using self organizing maps based on 3-D plot by principal component. Finally, using KDD Cup data, our experimental results were shown the problem solving process and the performance evaluation.
A Study of Similarity Measures on Multidimensional Data Sequences Using Semantic Information

One-dimensional time-series data have been studied in various database applications such as data mining and data warehousing. However, in the current complex business environment, multidimensional data sequences (MDS') become increasingly important in addition to one-dimensional time-series data. For example, a video stream can be modeled as an MDS in the multidimensional space with respect to color and texture attributes. In this paper, we propose the effective similarity measures on which the similar pattern retrieval is based. An MDS is partitioned into segments, each of which is represented by various geometric and semantic features. The similarity measures are defined on the basis of these segments. Using the measures, irrelevant segments are pruned from a database with respect to a given query. Both data sequences and query sequences are partitioned into segments, and the query processing is based upon the comparison of the features between data and query segments, instead of scanning all data elements of entire sequences.

Design and Implementation of the Data Broadcasting System using Data Piping

In this paper, we propose a prototype system of digital data broadcasting system based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. This prototype system uses data piping as a mechanism for delivery of arbitrary user-defined data inserted directly into the payload part of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. This data type includes URL or HTML content. After the contents are inserted into the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, they can be delivered through the broadcasting to the DTV set-top receiver. The 75 packets received in real-time during the TV broadcast are used to start display or switch content. This prototype system describes how to achieve common design goals and integrating digital TV and web pages based on the ATSC data broadcasting standard. The prototype system can be used to display digital data contents - HTML, images-on existing TV or digital TV set-tops.
A Robust Image Watermarking Algorithm and System Architecture for Semi-fingerprinting

In this paper, we propose a new watermarking method based on spread spectrum and a semi-fingerprinting system architecture that can be built using our robust watermarking method. Especially, we describe a method that extends the application area of watermarking technology to more practical application domains by applying the watermarking technology that has been focused mainly on copyright protection to fingerprinting area. Our proposed watermarking scheme uses the method that inserts more data by using random number shifting method. We improved the reliability of acquired data with 20-bits CRC code and 60-bits inserted information. In addition, we designed the system architecture based on the recommendation of cIDf (content ID forum) in order to apply the system on the semi-fingerprinting area.
Design and Implementation of Mobile Survey System

The possession rate of residential telephones tend to decrease as mobile phones are widely spread. There is also a decrease in the access rate of the qualified respondents due to the low rate of phone book registration and that of house owner's presence at home. Such a change in telephone survey environment calls for another survey-channel which makes good use of new telecommunication services. In this paper, a mobile survey system was designed and performed by the use of SMS (Short Message Service) which is a kind of mobile data communication service. The system draws the sample by using random digit sampling based on 'quota allocation', and sends the SMS to the sample according to the arranged scheduler. Then, the survey-panel which received the SMS connects to the responding server by pressing the 'send' button (which is connected by the callback number), responding to the question. As a result, the responding value is stored in the database and is analyzed in real-time. This system is distinguished from other research methodologies for its simplicity in data collection, its inexpensive research price, and the innovatively low research time.
Mobile Agent Based Discovery Mechanism for Pure P2P Environments

Recently the rapid growth of Internet and the construction of high speed networks make many kinds of multimedia services possible. But most of current multimedia services are designed being by client/server model, which incurs high load of central server. In order to solve this problem, we propose a peer-to-peer network-based discovery mechanism for multimedia services. In the proposed scheme, mobile agents that have autonomy and mobility are used to search the location of resources. Use of mobile agents can solve the loss problem of the search result that occurs when the network is unsettled in pure peer-to-peer network. It also supports interoperability in heterogeneous system environments. In the proposed scheme, each host maintains the location information of resources which are locally requested or recently requested by other hosts. So, the proposed scheme has faster response time than the pre-existing mechanisms in pure peer-to-peer network environments.
A Design and Implementation of Web Based Remote Control System for Three-Dimensional Stereo Camera

In this paper, a web based remote control system located at too dangerous field to access for the worker. The system was designed and implemented for three-dimensional stereo camera connected to web server which can be controlled easily by client side person working in the safe monitoring room. The user in the client side can control the vergence/focus control and zoom-in/out and pan/tilt functions through an user interface. The user interface for remote control environment was designed and implemented with Java applet mechanism, and was tested the operation result of the system.
Development of HTMLtoVTML Conversion Agent using Embedded Text and Priori Structural Knowledge

This paper presents a new agent which convert HTML contents to VXML contents automatically for voice services via web. In this paper, I propose an interactive hybrid sequential contents selection method to select desired contents fast and robustly from known web pages. It uses real time structural features as well as embedded text and/or priori structural knowledge such as link symbol position. To verify its effectiveness, a full agent system is implemented and tested. The method reflects user intention more accurately than conventional selections using structural features and is more robust to variations of HTML programming techniques. The agent is fast and has less computational burden than methods use XML or XHTML conversion as intermediate stage.
Developing XML Hub System based on SOAP

SOAP is a protocol used for information exchange in distributed computing environment and defines mechanisms for message transferring between distributed system and remote procedure call/response process. This SOAP is able to be used independently on operating systems and program languages because it is a protocol using text-based XML. Therefore ebXML that is a standard for E-Commerce adopts SOAP for message exchange. In this paper, we developed XML Hub System based on SOAP By this in Hub System we can more easily exchange messages for B2B. Accordingly we can manage and integrate a lots of business partners.
