According to the evolution of the Internet and wireless mobile communication technology, techniques for mobile databases and wireless web services are issued for them. Recently, these changes of geographic application environment increase the needs for development of new GIS database system for the web services and embedded system. In this paper, we proposed a Jana-based web database systems that can be used in the web-based GIS and mobile databases. This proposed system has been implemented using the Java to be displayed easily into the portable computing devices and Java-based web application servers and using OpenGIS for web data interoperability. Also, it can efficiently process web-based spatial queries by developing a spatial query processor including schema manager and a spatial object storage module.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 11~22
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.011
As random access memory chip gets cheaper, it becomes affordable to realize main memory-based database systems. Consequently, reducing cache misses emerges as the most important issue in current main memory databases, in which CPU speeds have been increasing at 60% per year, compared to the memory speeds at 10% per you. In this paper, we design and implement a main-memory database system for real-time mobile GIS. Our system is composed of 5 modules： the interface manager provides the interface for PDA users； the memory data manager controls spatial and non-spatial data in main-memory using virtual memory techniques； the query manager processes spatial and non-spatial query : the index manager manages the MR-tree index for spatial data and the T-tree index for non-spatial index : the GIS server interface provides the interface with disk-based GIS. The MR-tree proposed propagates node splits upward only if one of the internal nodes on the insertion path has empty space. Thus, the internal nodes of the MR-tree are almost 100% full. Our experimental study shows that the two-dimensional MR-tree performs search up to 2.4 times faster than the ordinary R-tree. To use virtual memory techniques, the memory data manager uses page tables for spatial data, non- spatial data, T-tree and MR-tree. And, it uses indirect addressing techniques for fast reloading from disk.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 23~30
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.023
In order to approximate the spatial query result size we partition the input rectangles into subsets and estimate the query result size based on the partitioned spatial area. In this paper we examine query result size estimation in skewed data. We examine the existing spatial partitioning techniques such as equi-area and equi-count partitioning, which are analogous to the equi-width and equi-height histograms used in relational databases, and examine the other partitioning techniques based on spatial indexing. In this paper we propose a new spatial partitioning technique based on the Hilbert space filling curve. We present a detailed experimental evaluation comparing the proposed technique and the existing techniques using synthetic as well as real-life datasets. The experiments showed that the proposed partitioning technique based on the Hilbert space filling curve achieves better query result size estimation than the existing techniques for space query size, bucket numbers, skewed data, and spatial data size.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 31~38
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.031
This paper is about to implement a system for ground water safety evaluation. Since ground water quality is affected from the contamination source of surface water, one can estimate the magnitude of affection and the source themselves. This paper suggests a method to evaluate the spatial relationship of ground water and its contamination sources, using“contain”and“distance”operators in GIS. The research area is the Kunsan City in Chonbuk province, and are 75th wells those are located between the 4th alluvium land types. The results of measured chemical factors and results of related evaluation of these wells are stored and represented in ZEUS 2000 GIS DBMS, and an interface for searching and studying, is implemented by using ZEUS/SQLX, ZEUS/COM, and Visual Basic 6.0 programming languages. After this research, the spatial relationship between hydro-geological geo-objects and ground water is verified and a efficient evaluation system using GIS is suggested. It is the topic of further study that tries to calibrate the suggested evaluation model by applying it to wider area.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 39~50
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.039
GML proposed to offer interoperability of geography information is specifying various dynamic object schema for application in the wireless environment. These GML dynamic object schema supports the expression of moving objects that the position and shape change consecutively over time, so practical use of GML is increased in location-based service that provides various application services based on location information of moving objects. In particular, the conventional query languages about GML have been studied with priority given to the integration of geographic information, the support of spatial operations, and etc. However, it lacks the support for moving objects queries. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the moving objects query language that supports moving objects queries for GML documents by extension of XQuery that is standard in query language. Also, data model, algebra operation and various moving objects operators for the proposed query language are designed, and we apply the proposed query language to tornado government organization system to show that the proposed query language can be used effectively in various location-based service.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 51~60
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.051
In open GIS environment, a GIS client can access spatial data in different types of GIS sowers with the same Interfaces. This means that open GIS components software ensures the interoperability throughout the heterogeneous GIS servers. The user response time, however, tends to be increased, if the client makes use of the standard interfaces for data accesses that can ensure interoperability. This is because the format of spatial data accessed from a specific GIS server must be transformed into common format, such as Rowset in OLE/DB, which is compatible with the standard interfaces. In this paper, we develop efficient techniques for data buffering in GIS client to reduce the response time. We design the buffer management method, which Is based on the space partitioning, and Integrate buffer management components into MapBase, an open GIS component software. And we also, show that buffer management proposed in this paper yields significant performance improvement in GIS client.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 61~68
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.061
Now, the representative researching trends of view managements for improving the query processing in multi-database system are focused on the materialized view mechanism and the signature view index mechanism. But when we compare with both mechanisms, the former mechanism`s access time is faster than one of the latter`s, and needs large space. The latter mechanism needs small space and the access time is slower than one of the former. These mechanisms are trade-off each other. Therefore, in case of query process using the view management, we are to improve the system performance and to reduce the access cost of disk input and output by suggesting a new mechanism mixing both the materialized view mechanism and the signature view index mechanism. We suggested that the structure of metadata and the algorithm about the new mired mechanism.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 69~82
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.069
A moving object has a special feature that it`s spatial location, shape and size are changed as time goes. These changes of the object accompany the continuous movement that is called the trajectory. In this paper, we propose an index structure that users can retrieve the trajectory of a moving object with the access of a page. We also propose the multi-complex query that is a new query type for trajectory retrieval. In order to prove the excellence of our method, we compare and analyze the performance for query time and storage space through experiments in various environments. It is shown that our method outperforms the existing index structures when processing spatio-temporal trajectory queries on moving objects.
An Adaptive Materialized Query Selection Method in a Mediator System
Joo, Kil-Hong ; Lee, Won-Suk ;
The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 83~94
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.083
Recent researches which purport to Integrate distributed information have been concentrated on developing efficient mediator systems that not only provide a high degree of autonomy for local users but also support the flexible integration of required functions for global users. However, there has been little attention on how to evaluate a global query in a mediator. A global query is transformed into a set of its sub-queries and each sub-query is the unit of evaluation in a remote server. Therefore, it is possible to speed up the execution of a global query if the previous results of frequently evaluated sub-queries are materialized in a mediator. Since the Integration schema of a mediator can be incrementally modified and the evaluation frequency of a global query can also be continuously varied, query usage should be carefully monitored to determine the optimized set of materialized sub-queries. Furthermore, as the number of sub-queries increases, the optimization process itself may take too long, so that the optimized set Identified by a long optimization process nay become obsolete due to the recent change of query usage. This paper proposes the adaptive selection of materialized sub-queries such that available storage in a mediator can be highly utilized at any time. In order to differentiate the recent usage of a query from the past, the accumulated usage frequency of a query decays as time goes by.

This paper proposes an efficient remote video evaluation system that is matched well with personalized characteristics of students using information filtering based on user profile. For making a question in forms of video, a key frame extraction method based on coordinate, size and color information is proposed. And Question-mating intervals are extracted using gray-level histogram difference and time window. Also, question-making method that combined category-based system with keyword-based system is used for efficient evaluation. Therefore, students can enhance their study achievement through both supplementing their inferior area and preserving their interest area.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 105~114
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.105
In this paper, we propose a collaboration method of diverse agents each others in multi-agent model and describe a node migration algorithm of Mobile-Agent (MA) using by the metadata of Naming-Agent (NA). Collaboration work of multi-agent assures stability of agent system and provides reliability of information retrieval on the distributed environment. NA, an important part of multi-agent, identifies each agents and series the unique name of each agents, and each agent references the specified object using by its name. Also, NA integrates and manages naming service by agents classification such as Client-Push-Agent (CPA), Server-Push-Agent (SPA), and System-Monitoring-Agent (SMA) based on its characteristic. And, NA provides the location list of mobile nodes to specified MA. Therefore, when MA does move through the nodes, it is needed to improve the efficiency of node migration by specified priority according to hit_count, hit_ratio, node processing and network traffic time. Therefore, in this paper, for the integrated naming service, we design Naming Agent and show the structure of metadata which constructed with fields such as hit_count, hit_ratio, total_count of documents, and so on. And, this paper presents the flow of creation and updating of metadata and the method of node migration with hit_count through the collaboration of multi-agent.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 115~122
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.115
Software system modeling has a goal for finding and solving system`s problems by describing and analyzing system model in formal notations. Petri nets, as graphical formalism, have been used in describing and analyzing the software systems such as parallel systems, real-time system, and protocols. In the analysis of Petri nets, general system properties such as deadlock and liveness are analyzed by the reachability analysis. On the other side, specific properties such as functional requirements and constraints are checked by model-checking. However, since these analysis methods are based on enumeration of ail possible states, there nay be state explosion problem, which means that system states exponentially increase as the size of system is larger. In this paper, we propose a new method for mechanically checking system properties with avoiding state explosion problem. At first, system properties are described in property nets then the system model and the property net are composed and analyzed. In the compositional analysis, system parts irrelevant to the specific property are reduced to minimize the analysis domain of the system. And it is possible to mechanically check whether a specific property is satisfied or not.

Defense software has short of interoperability due to the vertical development method which is dependent heavily on application area and development environments. In order to prevent from lack of reusability and operability in application domain software development technology needs component concept and makes shift to the trend of domestic software component industry. This paper covers the research topics such as domain analysis and component architecture to improve and extend reusability and inter-operability for defense information system by two approaches, i.e. CBW (Command Based Work flow) analysis and UML components identification.

The next generation of web applications will need to be larger, more complex, and flexible Agent-oriented systems have great potential for these e-commerce applications. Agents can dynamically discover and compose e-services and mediate interactions. Development of software agents with CBD (Component Based Development) has proved to be successful in increasing speed to market of development Projects, lowering the development cost and providing better qualify. In this thesis, we propose a systemic development process for software agents using component and UML (Unified Modeling Language). We suggest a etA (e-business Agent) CBD reference architecture for layer the related components through identification and classification of general agent and e-business agent. We also propose the ebA-CBD process that is a guideline to consider the best features of existing agent oriented software engineering methodologies, while grounding agent-oriented concepts in the same underlying semantic framework used by UML. We first developed the agent components specification and modeled it with Goal, Role, Interaction, and Architecture Model. Based on this, we developed e-CPIMAS (e-Commerce Product Information Mailing Agent System) as a case study that provides the product information`s mailing service according to proposed process formality. We finally describe how these concepts may assist in increasing the efficiency reusability, productivity and quality to develop the business application and e-business agent.

DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.153
Software development methodology using object-oriented analysis and design techniques for improving productivity and maintainability has acquired a substantial acceptance in both academia and industry as a fundamental paradigm. Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) is widely used in both academia and industry because it provides high unability and rapid application development. EJB supports object-oriented paradigm, but there are several things to consider when designing detail model of object-oriented model or implementing object-oriented model with EJB model. One of them is inheritance problem. In this paper, we classify the types of class inheritance which is shown upon in object-oriented model into three types and identify the problems which can happen when implementing the inheritance mechanism with EJB model. And this paper proposes three patterns for realizing the inheritance in EJB. Moreover, applicable patterns and guidelines for each object-oriented inheritance types for the proposed patterns are suggested.

Park, Ju-Seok ; Chong, Ki-Won ;
The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 163~172
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.163
In the software development project applying object-oriented development methodology, the research on the UCP(Use Case Point) as a method to estimate development effort is being carried on. The existing research proposes the linear model calculating the development effort that multiplies an invariant on AUCP(Adjusted Use Case Point) which applied technical and environmental factors. However, the statistical model that estimates the development effort using AUCP and UUCP(Unadjusted Use Case Point) is not being studied. The irrelevant relationship of the linear regression model, whose development period is increasing tremendously as the software size increases, is confirmed. Moreover, during the UCP calculating process, there can be errors in FP by applying the TCF(Technical Complexity Factor) and EF(Environmental Factor). This paper presents a non-linear regression model, that does not consider the TCF and EF, and that estimate the development effort from UUCP directly by utilizing the exponential function. An exponential function is selected among the linear, logarithm, polynomial, power, and exponential model via statistical evaluations of the models mentioned above.

DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.173
The research to estimate development effort of software has been progress. But, it is not easy gain that testing data for estimating of development effort. Also, if we get the testing data, it is important that analysis testing data. In this paper, we study the data analysis of software development effort using the 789 software development projects which developed in the 1990`s. Software development scale and software development team site are various. Using the characteristic of factor, we have to study characteristic of data and we estimate the development effort step by step. First, we prove the difference of development effort with the 789 project data according to development type, development environment, the development language etc. Also, we execute the crosstabs analysis that team site and function point.

Choi, Seong-Man ; Yoo, Cheol-Jung ; Chang, Ok-Bae ;
The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 183~194
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.183
The existing management job of research expenses has been divided into three parts： budget planning, budget draw-up, and exact settlement of budget. However, it caused some problems. Under this current circumstance it is required to obtain research expenses steadily, to operate efficiently and to use them clearly to solve such problems. As a result of a study on data warehouse development process of existing system integration company (Inmon, IBM) to reflect current trend described above, data warehouse development process of Inmon uses systematic and gradual access as a classical development cycle method. It causes overlap and feedback to the previous step in the process of each step Is requested. And another problem that it is difficult to toil what function refers and corrects data because functions and data are separated during performing development process at data warehouse development process of IBM is caused. Integrated management data warehouse development process of research expenses in the enterprise environment which applies UML at planning and analysis step, design step and implement and test step is suggested in this paper. Information retrieval agent uses existing budget plan DB, budget draw-up DB and budget settlement DB to find out information that a user wants to know. Information retrieval agent collects and saves information at integration database and information integration agent extracts, transports, transforms and loads the data. Information integration agent reduces a user`s efforts to access to a number of information sources and check each of them. It also screens out data that a user may not need. As a result, integrated management data warehouse development process of research expenses in the enterprise environment reflects a user`s requirements as much as possible and provides various types of information to make a decision which is needed to establish the policy of research expense management. It helps an end user approach his/her desired analysis information quickly and get various data from the comprehensive viewpoint rather than the fragmentary viewpoint. Furthermore, as it integrated three systems into one, it is possible to share data, to integrate the system, to reduce operating expenses and to simplify supporting environment for the decision making.

This paper describes the development of a window manager based on the real time operating system, Qplus-p, for small internet appliance. Current window managers for small internet appliance are originally developed for desktop environment and then modified for embedded systems. So they have inadequate functions for small internet appliances and do not perfectly support Hangul. The Qplus-P window manager adds the Hangul processing function to Matchbox window manager, a royalty-free window manager for small Internet appliance and provides a new Hangul input method called Amikey. Input mode can be changed automatically from Hangul mode to English mode and vice versa by Amikey. In addition, Qplus-P window manager provides Hangul supported basic applications such as web browser, e-mail client, MP3 player. We developed the window manager by porting open sources to target system after adding Hangul supported functions to them.

A new research of geographic information system has been focused on an open architecture, interoperability and extensibility in their design. In order to process huge data, multidimensional data and heterogeneous geographic format data, these research move away from monolithic system to open structure system managing application layer and user interface layer. Nowadays, many developers have used CORBA middleware for the OGIS systems. However, CORBA middleware has some problems that support only a point-to-point communication and takes a long time to transfer sever data to client. Thus, in this paper, we propose a method on modifying a point-to-point communication and implement the efficient communication method. The proposed method that transfer data from sever to client in one connection support a group communication and reduce a transfer time delay.

The KIPS Transactions:PartD, volume 11D, issue 1, 2004, Pages 211~218
DOI : 10.3745/KIPSTD.2004.11D.1.211
Compared with the desktop, the MIDP on J2ME has many limitations on memory capacity, screen size, networking ability and processing speed. In addition, screens vary with device providers in size, and service platforms vary with mobile service providers. These factors require additional functions to server and cause overheads of the server. On this paper, we propose the wav to reduce overheads of the server and to overcome disadvantages of the J2ME clients, with the server that provides the service of data in XML document type and the client on MIDP that is developed including the kXML parser.

Confidence interval estimators for proportions using normal approximation have been commonly used for coverage analysis of simulation output even though alternative approximate estimators of confidence intervals for proportions were proposed. This is -because the normal approximation was easier to use in practice than the other approximate estimators. Computing technology has no problem with dealing these alternative estimators. Recently, one of the approximation methods for coverage analysis which is based on arcsin transformation has been used for estimating proportion and for controlling the required precision in . In this paper, we compare three approximate interval estimators, based on a normal distribution approximation, an arcsin transformation and an F-distribution approximation, of a single proportion. Three estimators were applied to sequential coverage analysis of steady-state means, in simulations of the M/M/1/
queueing systems on a single processor and multiple processors.

The National Education Information System (NEIS), one of ERP systems developed by Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development, has been utilized in primary and secondary schools. In this paper, we considered the NEIS should be used not only for educational administration affairs, but also for a lifelong management of National Human Resource. The current School Information Management System (SIMS) is unsatisfactory due to the insufficiency of actual field suitability and user`s conveniency. For solving such problems, the system rebuilding or revision should be accompanied by. As a guideline of revision and supplement of the SIMS, we suggest an application useful in both schools and clinics by the integrating healthcare management information of people. For this, we propose a lifelong healthcare information management by integrating Student Health Records of the NEIS with Electronic Medical Records of doctors` offices. The healthcare information is designed and represented in XML. We applied different XSL style-sheets to XML documents in order to offer a view suitable for demands of schools and clinics. The healthcare information can be managed and utilized efficiently by using the view. We ascertained that the lifelong Healthcare Information Management System is an improvement to overcome the inefficiency of healthcare information management and the connection inadequacy between schools and medical institutions, and is desirable for a lifelong management of the National Human Resource.
