Survey on Network Protocols for Energy Network Infrastructure based on Smart Utility Networks

As an energy network infrastructure, which is capable of integrating energy related services such as AMR/AMI, Smart Grid, and Smart Water Grid, the Smart Utility Network (SUN) enables a paradigm shift from user-oriented networks to device-oriented networks. The SUN has some similarities to sensor networks in application and network requirements. Therefore it is required to investigate and analyze thoroughly existing related work in advance to design new network protocols for SUN. In this paper we analyze service requirements and design considerations for SUN and then present a design guideline of new network protocols for SUN by investigating existing low power protocols, data aggregation methods, and in-network storages.
Design and Implementation of Multi-Agent System for Load Shedding in Microgrid

In an islanded operation mode of a microgrid, load shedding is used to balance between the power supplied and the power demanded. The conventional load-shedding schemes have considered that a load uses a continuous range of values to present its load demand. However, in reality, some loads use integer and discrete values. We design a multi-agent system for the load shedding with consideration of the discrete characteristic of load demands. Besides, we define a control architecture, functionalities of agents, and interactions among agents for implementation of the system. Through experiments in various test scenarios, we show the feasibility and performance of the system.
Econometric Study on Forecasting Demand Response in Smart Grid

Cournot model is one of representative models among many game theoretic approaches available for analyzing competitive market models. Recent years have witnessed various kinds of attempts to model competitive electricity markets using the Cournot model. Cournot model is appropriate for oligopoly market which is one characteristic of electric power industry requiring huge amount of capital investment. When we use Cournot model for the application to electricity market, it is prerequisite to assume the downward sloping demand curve in the right direction. Generators in oligopoly market could try to maximize their profit by exercising the market power like physical or economic withholding. However advanced electricity markets also have demand side bidding which makes it possible for the demand to respond to the high market price by reducing their consumption. Considering this kind of demand reaction, Generators couldn't abuse their market power. Instead, they try to find out an equilibrium point which is optimal for both sides, generators and demand. This paper suggest a quantitative analysis between market variables based on econometrics for estimating demand responses in smart grid environment.
A Study for the Methodology of Analyzing the Operation Behavior of Thermal Energy Grids with Connecting Operation

A simulation methodology and corresponding program based on it is to be discussed for analyzing the effects of the networking operation of existing DHC system in connection with CHP system on-site. The practical simulation for arbitrary areas with various building compositions is carried out for the analysis of operational features in both systems, and the various aspects of thermal energy grids with connecting operation are highlighted through the detailed assessment of predicted results. The intrinsic operational features of CHP prime movers, gas engine, gas turbine etc., are effectively implemented by realizing the performance data, i.e. actual operation efficiency in the full and part loads range. For the sake of simplicity, a simple mathematical correlation model is proposed for simulating various aspects of change effectively on the existing DHC system side due to the connecting operation, instead of performing cycle simulations separately. The empirical correlations are developed using the hourly based annual operation data for a branch of the Korean District Heating Corporation (KDHC) and are implicit in relation between main operation parameters such as fuel consumption by use, heat and power production. In the simulation, a variety of system configurations are able to be considered according to any combination of the probable CHP prime-movers, absorption or turbo type cooling chillers of every kind and capacity. From the analysis of the thermal network operation simulations, it is found that the newly proposed methodology of mathematical correlation for modelling of the existing DHC system functions effectively in reflecting the operational variations due to thermal energy grids with connecting operation. The effects of intrinsic features of CHP prime-movers, e.g. the different ratio of heat and power production, various combinations of different types of chillers (i.e. absorption and turbo types) on the overall system operation are discussed in detail with the consideration of operation schemes and corresponding simulation algorithms.
A Database Design Method for Wind Power Plant SCADA System based on IEC61400-25

In this paper, a database method for Wind Power Plant SCADA system based on IEC61400-25 was designed. To manage big data, which is produced by the introduction of international standards and large/grouping of wind power plant, database should be systematically designed. As identify the characteristics of the wind power data and reflect the requirements of a user, it would be decreasing the waste of data space and managing efficiently the system. As a result, it is expected to reduce cost and effort in development and maintenance of Wind Power Plant.
Design of SCADA System for a Large-Scale Offshore Wind Farm

In recent years, many researchers and developers have been interested in renewable energy all over the world. Particularly, the development of wind power is being processed actively due to its high economic efficiency. A few years ago, Korean government has started the research for building a large-scale offshore wind farm in domestic west-southern area. Current domestic SCADA technology level for operating wind farm is very low compared with foreign SCADA technology level. In this paper, we found IT issues and solutions for developing SCADA system. Based on these solutions, we designed SCADA system for a large-scale offshore wind farm.
Study on Development Method of MDMS for AMI Operation based on Common Information Model

In the development of MDMS(Meter Data Management System) based on CIM(Common Information Model), which is international standard in information model and data exchange on power system, the two focused issues are the effective management of data collected in a shorter time period and the way to integrate services supporting legacy system to use the AMI(AMI, Advanced Metering Infrastructure) data. In this paper, we propose MDMS implementation methods and functions in AMI environment which are differ from existing AMR system environments in that the methods support bi-directional service infrastructure. The proposed MDMS in this paper has two unique features, one is the secure of interoperability by utilizing the CIM and ESB, the other is the improvement of field application by implementing system module based on components. On an implementation of smart grid, the result of proposed methods is expected to contribute to the efficient development and operation of CIM-based power system.
Study on WAMAC System Architecture Design, Including PMU Data Verification System

PMU based power grid monitoring and control system, WAMAC (Wide Area Monitoring And Control) system is required system design for accurate power data without error and loss through a system-wide. In the paper, we propose system design that measured data from PMU transmitted without loss to PDC and DSM server. and we propose a method to verify the real-time "data has been transmitted accurately". Verification system has been designed to reflect the WAMAC system. Therefore the WAMAC can enhance the reliability of the analysis of the data, and it can monitor lossless real-time trend data.
Efficient H.264/AVC Video Scrambling Methods for Digital Rights Management

This paper describes efficient H.264/AVC video scrambling methods for digital rights management. The proposed scrambling methods are to scramble level and suffix in entropy encoding and MVD in motion estimation of the H.264 video compression process. Other scrambling methods have been proposed but they degrade the compression efficiency or make it difficult to achieve real-time processing due to the large amount of computational efforts. Since the proposed scrambling methods resolve the drawbacks of other approaches, they do not cause image distortion and the original compression efficiency is maintained. We verified our scrambling methods and evaluated the performance by conducting several experiments with H.264 reference program. Finally, we implemented video player system using USB dongle in order to apply the proposed scrambling/descrambling methods to H.264 video compression.
: Low-Cost Global Mobility Management Scheme in Proxy Mobile IPv6 Networks

This paper specifies a low-cost global mobility management architecture and protocol procedure called LC-
, which is based on Proxy Mobile IPv6. In LC-
, mobility management is performed by the network entity. The benefit is the elimination of the wireless link data delivery tunnel overhead between a mobile node and the access router. To compare with the well-known Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 mobility management protocol and GPMIP, the location update, packet delivery, and total cost functions generated by a mobile node during its average domain residence time are formulated for each protocol based on Fluid-flow mobility model. Then, the impacts of various system parameters on the cost functions are analyzed. The analytical results indicate that the proposed global mobility management protocol can guarantee lower total costs.
Analytical Approach of Global Mobility Support Schemes in IP-based Heterogeneous Mobile Networks

Mobility management of the mobile nodes and provision of seamless handover is crucial to an efficient support for the global roaming of the mobile nodes in next-generation wireless networks. Mobile IPv6 and mobility management in extended IP layer, which highly depend on traffic characteristics and user mobility models, were proposed by the IETF. Therefore, to evaluate the in-depth performance about these factors is important. Generally, the performance of IPv6-based mobility management protocol is evaluated through simulation. This paper shows the correlation between network parameters and performance metrics through numerical results, which is investigated how influence handoff latency and packet loss. And this paper uses mathematical analysis of the system parameters, such as the subnet residence time, the packet arrival rate and delay in wireless connection through the analytical framework which evaluate the performance of IPv6-based mobility management protocol.
Design and Evaluation of Fast-Handover Mechanism Between Hetrogeneous Networks Considering the Location Management in PMIPv6

As the wireless Internet become more widely accessible, variety of Internet services can be used without limitation of location. However, existing mobility management methods such as MIP and PMIP of IETF requires the load of heavy protocol stack on the mobile nodes or the addition of components such as LMA and MAG. In this paper, we proposed the location management technique in the PMIPv6 and Fast Handover technique. according to the moving pattern of the node, the location management technique proposed in order to adjust the paging area dynamically. The Fast Handover technique applied MIH technology and it reduced the handover signal processing time between heterogeneous network. The location management cost in the environment which the node moves in order to evaluate this and handover delay time was calculate. The proposal technique was efficiently more evaluated than PMIPv6 with the smallest 29% and maximum 83%.
The Investment of Information Security and Real Option

Although many companies acknowledge the necessity of investment of information security, it is difficult to grasp a tangible effect and to calculate a scale of damage from the security incident. Consequently, companies are under the reality that it is not easy to make an investment decision for information security and to calculate the investment scale. For the investment decision making, although there are several traditional techniques of investment analysis, the investment of information security, comparing to other tangible assets, has limitations in using traditional techniques due to the highly uncertain investment effects. In this study, the traditional technique of investment analysis will be described, and the application method of analytic technique for Real Option, which is developed from the evaluation technique of highly uncertain financial futures and options, will be suggested.
