Development Moodle Customization Guidelines and Supporting Tools

Open Source Softwares(OSS) are increasingly deployed in several domains, many educational organization have tried to deploy the OSS LMS(Learning Management System). For deploying OSS LMS, customization for specific environment is critical requirement. In this paper, we implemented the supporting environment to integrate the Moodle and school information system for user and course management. It is the most important customization requirement for introducing the Moodle to school. Also, we implemented supporting environment for the most important requirement so that we verified the usability of our guideline. We applied our environment to verify the efficiency of customization process.
Korean Learning Assistant System with Automatically Extracted Knowledge

Computer aided language learning has become popular. But the level of automation of constructing a Korean learning assistant system is not so high because a practical language learning system needs large scale knowledge resources, which is very hard to acquire. In this paper, we propose a Korean learning assistant system that utilizes easily obtainable knowledge resources like a corpus, web documents and a lexicon. Our system has three modules - problem solving, pronunciation marker and writing assistant. Automatic problem generator uses a corpus and a lexicon to make problems with one correct answer and three distracters, then verifies their suitability by utilizing frequency information from web documents. We analyze pronunciation rules for a pronunciation marker and recommend appropriate words and sentences in real-time by using data extracted from a corpus. In experiment, we evaluate 400 automatically generated problems, which show 89.9% problem suitability and 64.9% example suitability.
Super Resolution Algorithm Based on Edge Map Interpolation and Improved Fast Back Projection Method in Mobile Devices

Recently, as the prevalence of high-performance mobile devices and the application of the multimedia content are expanded, Super Resolution (SR) technique which reconstructs low resolution images to high resolution images is becoming important. And in the mobile devices, the development of the SR algorithm considering the operation quantity or memory is required because of using the restricted resources. In this paper, we propose a new single frame fast SR technique suitable for mobile devices. In order to prevent color distortion, we change RGB color domain to HSV color domain and process the brightness information V (Value) considering the characteristics of human visual perception. First, the low resolution image is enlarged by the improved fast back projection considering the noise elimination. And at the same time, the reliable edge map is extracted by using the LoG (Laplacian of Gaussian) filtering. Finally, the high definition picture is reconstructed by using the edge information and the improved back projection result. The proposed technique removes effectually the unnatural artefact which is generated during the super resolution restoration, and the edge information which can be lost is amended and emphasized. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than conventional back projection and interpolation methods.
A Novel Method for Automated Honeycomb Segmentation in HRCT Using Pathology-specific Morphological Analysis

Honeycombs are dense structures that small cysts, which generally have about 2~10 mm in diameter, are surrounded by the wall of fibrosis. When honeycomb is found in the patients, the incidence of acute exacerbation is generally very high. Thus, the observation and quantitative measurement of honeycomb are considered as a significant marker for clinical diagnosis. In this point of view, we propose an automatic segmentation method using morphological image processing and assessment of the degree of clustering techniques. Firstly, image noises were removed by the Gaussian filtering and then a morphological dilation method was applied to segment lung regions. Secondly, honeycomb cyst candidates were detected through the 8-neighborhood pixel exploration, and then non-cyst regions were removed using the region growing method and wall pattern testing. Lastly, final honeycomb regions were segmented through the extraction of dense regions which are consisted of two or more cysts using cluster analysis. The proposed method applied to 80 High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images and achieved a sensitivity of 89.4% and PPV (Positive Predictive Value) of 72.2%.
Detection of Artificial Caption using Temporal and Spatial Information in Video

The artificial captions appearing in videos include information that relates to the videos. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, many methods for caption extraction from videos have been studied. Most traditional methods of detecting caption region have used one frame. However video include not only spatial information but also temporal information. So we propose a method of detection caption region using temporal and spatial information. First, we make improved Text-Appearance-Map and detect continuous candidate regions through matching between candidate-regions. Second, we detect disappearing captions using disappearance test in candidate regions. In case of captions disappear, the caption regions are decided by a merging process which use temporal and spatial information. Final, we decide final caption regions through ANNs using edge direction histograms for verification. Our proposed method was experienced on many kinds of captions with a variety of sizes, shapes, positions and the experiment result was evaluated through Recall and Precision.
Gesture Spotting by Web-Camera in Arbitrary Two Positions and Fuzzy Garbage Model

Many research of hand gesture recognition based on vision system have been conducted which enable user operate various electronic devices more easily. 3D position calculation and meaningful gesture classification from similar gestures should be executed to recognize hand gesture accurately. A simple and cost effective method of 3D position calculation and gesture spotting (a task to recognize meaningful gesture from other similar meaningless gestures) is described in this paper. 3D position is achieved by calculation of two cameras relative position through pan/tilt module and a marker regardless with the placed position. Fuzzy garbage model is proposed to provide a variable reference value to decide whether the user gesture is the command gesture or not. The reference is achieved from fuzzy command gesture model and fuzzy garbage model which returns the score that shows the degree of belonging to command gesture and garbage gesture respectively. Two-stage user adaptation is proposed that off-line (batch) adaptation for inter-personal difference and on-line (incremental) adaptation for intra-difference to enhance the performance. Experiment is conducted for 5 different users. The recognition rate of command (discriminate command gesture) is more than 95% when only one command like meaningless gesture exists and more than 85% when the command is mixed with many other similar gestures.
