Yu, Myung-han ; Kim, Sangkyung ;
KIPS Transactions on Software and Data Engineering, volume 4, issue 9, 2015, Pages 331~336
DOI : 10.3745/KTSDE.2015.4.9.331
On the IoT-based sensor networks, users or sensor nodes must perform a Service Discovery (SD) procedure before access to the wanted service. Current approach uses a center-concentrated Resource Directory (RD) servers or P2P technique, but these can cause a point-of-failure or flooding of SD messages. In this paper, we proposes an improved SWoT SD approach for CoAP-based sensor networks, which integrates Social Web of Things (SWoT) concept to current CoAP-based SD approach that makes up for weak points of existing systems. This new approach can perform a function like a keyword or location-based search originated from SNS, which can enhances the usability. Finally, we implemented a real system to evaluate.

Due to the rapid development of IoT(Internet of Things) technology, traditional taxis are connected through dispatchers and location systems. Typically, modern taxis have embedded with GPS(Global Positioning System), which aims for obtaining the route information. By analyzing the frequency of taxi trip events, we can find the frequent route for a given query time. However, a scalability problem would occur when we convert the raw location data of taxi trip events into the analyzed frequency information due to the volume of location data. For this problem, we propose a NoSQL based top-K query system for taxi trip events. First, we analyze raw taxi trip events and extract frequencies of all routes. Then, we store the frequency information into hash-based index structure of MongoDB which is a document-oriented NoSQL database. Efficient top-K query processing for frequent route is done with the top of the MongoDB. We validate the efficiency of our algorithms by using real taxi trip events of New York City.

Massive data occurred in a manufacturing place is able to fulfill very important roll to improve the manufacturing process. Domestic manufacturing business has been making an multilateral effort to react the change of manufacturing circumstance, but it undergoes many difficulties due to technical weakness. Coatings is a type of paint. It protect products by forming a film layer on the products and assigns various properties to those. The research of coatings is one of the fields studied actively in the polymer industry. The importance of the coatings in various industries is more increased. However, the industry still performs a mixing process in dependence on operator's experiences. In this paper, we propose a design for realtime monitoring system and data analysis verification TA to improve the manufacturing process using HW-SW integrated framework. Analysis results from the proposed framework are able to improve the coatings formulation process by collecting more quantitative reference data for work and providing it to work place. In particular, the framework may reduce the deterioration and loss cost which are caused by absence of a standard data as a accurate formulation criteria. It also may suggest a counterplan regarding errors which can be occurred in the future by deriving a standard calibration equation from the analysis using R and Design of Experiments about an error data generated in the mixing step.

Lee, Ki-Hoon ;
KIPS Transactions on Software and Data Engineering, volume 4, issue 9, 2015, Pages 371~376
DOI : 10.3745/KTSDE.2015.4.9.371
The Internet of Things (IoT) significantly increases the amount of data. Database compression is important for big data because it can reduce costs for storage systems and save I/O bandwidth. However, it could show low performance for write-intensive workloads such as OLTP due to the updates of compressed pages. In this paper, we present practical guidelines for the performance improvement of database compression. Especially, we propose the SELECTIVE strategy, which compresses only tables whose space savings are close to the expected space savings calculated by the compressed page size. Experimental results using the TPC-C benchmark and MySQL show that the strategy can achieve 1.1 times better performance than the uncompressed counterpart with 17.3% space savings.

KIPS Transactions on Software and Data Engineering, volume 4, issue 9, 2015, Pages 377~384
DOI : 10.3745/KTSDE.2015.4.9.377
In this paper we propose a visualization tool for distortion-free time-series matching. Supporting distortion-free is a very important factor in time-series matching to get more accurate matching results. In this paper, we visualize the result of time-series matching, which removes various time-series distortions such as noise, offset translation, amplitude scaling, and linear trend by using moving average, normalization, linear detrending transformations, respectively. The proposed visualization tool works as a client-server model. The client sends a user-selected time-series, of which distortions are removed, to the server and visualizes the matching results. The server efficiently performs the distortion-free time-series matching on the multi-dimensional R*-tree index. By visualizing the matching result as five different charts, we can more easily and more intuitively understand the matching result.

KIPS Transactions on Software and Data Engineering, volume 4, issue 9, 2015, Pages 385~392
DOI : 10.3745/KTSDE.2015.4.9.385
In IoT(Internet of Things), it is important for wireless networks to communicate data created among resource-constrained wireless nodes, where time synchronization is needed for meaningful data creation and transmission. Time Synchronization by flooding is one of the mostly used protocols for WSN(Wireless Sensor Networks). Even though this type of scheme has some advantages over other types (i.e. a simple algorithm and independency of topology and so on), too many data transmission is required, leading to large power consumption. So, reducing transmission data is an important issue for energy efficiency in this kind of networks. In this paper, a new Flooding-based time synchronization protocol is proposed to use energy efficiently by reducing a transmitted traffic. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with an representative scheme, FTSP(Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol) by simulation. The results are shown that the proposed scheme is better than FTSP.

Kinect sensors have the ability to recognize the behavior and voice of the user. Due to its low-cost and high accessibility, Kinect sensors have been used in various fields, including healthcare, education and so on. In this paper, we propose to use Kinect in piano education. Specifically, the proposed method first recognizes the coordinate values of user's posture, compares them with coordinate values of teacher's posture and provide real-time feedbacks to the user. This enables user to keep the correct posture even when he is learning piano without a teacher. However, since the piano education is a long process, it is difficult to achieve the correct posture as a teacher immediately. Thus, we propose a user-oriented method to measure the error tolerance rate. The proposed method is the first feedback based piano education system that uses Kinect sensors.

In order to delivery of the correct information in IoT environment, it is important to deduce collected information according to a user's situation and to create a new information. In this paper, we propose a control access scheme of information through context-aware to protect sensitive information in IoT environment. It focuses on the access rights management to grant access in consideration of the user's situation, and constrains(access control policy) the access of the data stored in network of unauthorized users. To this end, after analysis of the existing research 'CP-ABE-based on context information access control scheme', then include dynamic conditions in the range of status information, finally we propose a access control policy reflecting the extended multi-dimensional context attribute. Proposed in this paper, access control policy considering the dynamic conditions is designed to suit for IoT sensor fusion environment. Therefore, comparing the existing studies, there are advantages it make a possible to ensure the variety and accuracy of data, and to extend the existing context properties.

As Internet of Things (IoT) is recently serviced in several fields, the reliability and safety issues for IoT embedded systems are emerged. During the development of embedded systems, it is not easy to build the virtual execution environment and to test the developing version. Therefore, it is difficult to ensure its reliability due to lack of unit testing. In this paper, we propose a log-based unit testing framework for embedded software, which performs on real target board by extracting information of function execution. And, according to execution paths, duplicated logs are eliminated to keep a minimal log size. As a result, during system testing, testers can efficiently decide whether the executed paths of each function are correctly performed or not.

The Sensor Registry System(SRS) provides sensor metadata to a user for instant use and seamless interpretation of sensor data in a heterogeneous sensor network environment. The existing sensor registry system cannot provide sensor metadata in case that the network connection is not available or is unstable. To resolve the problem, this paper proposes an extension of sensor registry system using network coverage information. The extended system sends a set of sensor metadata to the user by using network coverage open data (mobile vendors, signal strength, communication type). The extended SRS proposed in this paper supports a safer sensor metadata provision than the existing SRS, and it thus improves the quality of application services.
