한국문헌자동화목록법(KORMARC)에 관한 연구
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 3~13
This paper represents a summary of the major features of the format and description rules for old books of KORMARC proposed for National Central Library in 1992 by the Korean Society for Information Management.
Design of a hypermedia system for effective searching and browsing
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 15~30
Hypermedia system supports associative linking concept for multimedia information using link and node concept, and overcomes the limitations of database system and text retrieval system in some application areas. This study shows the design and implementation of a hypermedia system which supports text, graphics, image and voice /sound information. This system has been designed to integrate the browsing and searching functions of the hypermedia system for efficient multimedia information retrieval and user-interface. To demonstrate the function and capability of the system, an application was made in the area of Bible and related information.
A study on evaluating effectiveness of fuzzy information retrieval system
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 31~52
This study compared the retrieval effectiveness of conventional Boolean and fuzzy set retrieval strategies through a retrieval experiment. The recall ratio of fuzzy set retrieval is 75%, higher than the 60% of Boolean retrieval. On the other hand, the precision ratio of fuzzy set retrieval is 69%, a little bit lower than the 73% of Boolean retrieval.
Fussy operator analyses to imporve retrieval effectiveness of the fuzzy set model
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 53~63
The conventional fuzzy set model has been criticized as a retrieval model because the MIN and MAX operators have the properties adverse to effective calculation of document values. Since the first introduction of fuzzy set theory a variety of fuzzy operators have been developed, which can replace the MIN and MAX operators. We analyze their behavioral aspects of generating document values, and propose the enhanced fuzzy set model based on a class of fuzzy operators called positively compensatory operators. We also show through performance experiments that the proposed fuzzy set model provides higher retrieval effectiveness.
Author co-citation mapping and changes of intellectual structure in a subject area : with reference to Korean history
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 65~96
This research fulfills two objectives of the study relating to the analysis of changing intellectual structure and its development of Korean history during 1980s: 1) investigation of intellectural structures of two successive time periods using author co-citation study analysis: 2) validation of the results of author co-citation analysis using assessments of experts collected from scholarly reviews and direct data drawn from the researchers in the area of Korean history. Three approaches to multivariate analysis as multi-dimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and factor analysis are used to display the inter-author relationships in the author similarity matrix.
An experiment in automatic indexing with korean texts : a comparison of syntactico-statistical and manual methods
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 97~124
This study was undertaken in order to develop practical automatic indexing techniques suitable for Korean natural language texts. It has taken a modest step toward this goal by developing an automatic syntactico-statistical indexing method and evaluating the method by comparing the resutls with manual indexing. For this experimental study, the Korean text database was constructed manually based on 300 abstracts covering business subject. The experimental results showed that the performance of the automatic syntactico-statistical indexing system was comparable to that of other studies which have compared automatic indexing with manual indexing.
Korean mainstream medical papers published in the 1980s
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 10, issue 1, 1993, Pages 125~167
A review of literature discussing the status and impact of mainstream Korean research revealed that there have been few studies carried out to investigate the status of Korean mainstream medical research and that we need to know exact status of Korean medical papers published in mainstream journals. Accordingly, a study is undertaken to measure mainstream medical publication output by authors at Korean institutions and its growth during the 1980s as recorded in MEDLINE. EMBASE and SCI. For comparison purpose, a measurement of mainstream publication output of chemistry, a scientific field which showed the best mainstream performance, is also made. The database searching is limited to SCI for chemistry records.
