A Study of Document Ranking Algorithms in a P-norm Retrieval System
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 16, issue 1, 1999, Pages 7~30
This study is to develop effective document ranking algorithms in the P-norm retrieval system which can be implemented to the Boolean retrieval system without major difficulties by using non-statistical term weights based on document structure. Also, it is to enhance the performance by introducing the rank adjustment process which rearranges the ranks of retrieved documents according to the similarity between the top ranked documents and the rest of them. Of the non-statistical term weight algorithms, this study uses field weight and term pair distance weight. In the rank adjustment process, five retrieval experiments were performed, ranging between the case of using one record for the similarity measurement and the case of using first five records. It is proved that non-statistical term weights are highly effective and the rank adjustment process enhance the performance further.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 16, issue 1, 1999, Pages 69~87
This paper analyzes the implementation of a Knowledge Management System, which helps an organization to share information. Beginning with an overview of the theoretical concepts and types of Knowledge Management System, this paper goes on to describe related information technologies in detail. This paper then proceeds to evaluate the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy's (KIEP) Research Management System as a model, analyzing the purpose, system framework and operation. This study then concludes that in general existing information technologies are sufficient for an organization to build an efficient Knowledge Management System. However, the majority of individuals are currently not fully aware of the importance of sharing individual knowledge and information throughout an organization. Until this reluctance and ignorance is overcome the process of expanding the Knowledge Management System will be a slow and arduous endeavor.

The Publication Output and Contribution Rate of SCI Korean Medical Papers: 1990-1995
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 16, issue 1, 1999, Pages 137~156
The DIALOG's SCISearch database was searched, and the number of SCI Korean medical papers in each medical specialty was measured by document type and by publication year for the 1990-1995 period. The growth of SCI Korean medical papers was examined during this period. The percentage contribution of Korean medical papers to SCI database. and the SCI(mainstream) publication productivity ratio were analyzed for each medical specialty. The data obtained in this study for the early 1990s was compared with the data representing the 1980s. In addition, the fame research methodology was applied to the SCI Korean chemistry papers, and the result was compared with medicine. Meta-Analysis of Domestic ST Database Evaluation
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 16, issue 1, 1999, Pages 157~174
This investigation used meta-analysis to examine the quality of data of domestic ST(Science & Technical) databases. Analyses measured the quality of data itself, determined whether these databases have any critical errors in terms of accuracy, completeness, and consistency by conducting the data retrieval experiments. The purpose of this study was to diagnose the science & technical databases and to find out the problems of them and also to provide possible suggestions for their improvements. The researcher concluded the results by mentioning the three research questions.
