Web Interface Agent based on Learning using Information Extraction
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 5~22
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.005
Users usually search for the required information via search engines which contain locations of the information. However. as the amount of data gets large, the result of the search is often not the information that users actually want. In this paper a web guide is proposed in order to resolve this problem. The web guide uses case-based learning method which stores and utilizes cases based on the keywords of user's action and agent's visit. The proposed agent system learns the user's visiting actions following the input of the data to be searched, and then helps rapid searches of the data wanted.
Design and implementation of smart card-based multi-authentication mechanism for digital contents delivery
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 23~46
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.023
With explosively increasing digital contents, library and Information center should have a new role between knowledge providers and knowledge users as information brokering organization. Electronic transaction system should be required for performing this brokering service since economic value is added to information and knowledge in information society. The developments and changes around library are keeping up with increasing building digital library and digitalizing printed sources. With the rapidly changing circumstances, the Internet is currently witnessing an explosive growth. By serving as a virtual information resource. the Internet can dramatically change the way business is conducted and Information is provided. However because of features o( the Internet like openness and information sharing, it has fundamental vulnerabilities in security issues. For Instance, disclosure of private information and line eavesdropping such as password, banking account, transaction data on network and so on are primary obstruction factors to activation of digital contents delivery on network. For high network security and authentication, this paper looks at smart card technologies and proposes multi-authentication protocol based on smart card on open network, implements and analyzes it.
A Study on the Improvement of Performance of Concept-Based Information Retrieval Model Using a Distributed Subject Knowledge Base
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 47~69
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.047
The concept based retrieval model has shown a higher performance than those of the simple matching function method or the P-norm retrieval method introduced to compensate the demerits of the Boolean retrieval model. However. it takes too long to create a semantic-net knowledge base, which is essential in concept exploration. In order to solve such demerits. a method was sought out by creating a distributed knowledge base by subjects to reduce construction time without hindering the performance of retrieval.
A Study on the Evaluation of Foreign Science and Technology Serials with Reference to the Result of Interlibrary Loan Activity
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 71~88
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.071
The purpose of this use study is to evaluate foreign science and technology serials with reference to the result of interlibrary loan activity and to present the model of cooperative acquisition. This study was based upon an analysis of actual use data by library users and Interlibrary loan from March 1, 2000 to February 28, 2001. 603 titles of foreign serials which were composed of 459 subscription titles of I University Library and 144 cooperative acquisition titles in the fields of science and technology were analyzed. The study reveals that only 439 serials(72.8%) were used even more once and 164 serials were not used at all during 1 year interval. A relationship was found between rankings of serials as measured by use and JCR citation ranking. Based upon various aspects of use analysis, this study suggested effective techniques for managing academic serials.
The Impact of Information Technology on Academic Library Management
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 89~114
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.089
Information technology. computers, networks, and the World Wide Web are ubiquitous. Academic libraries have applied information technology over the last ten years. The traditional role of the library as the scholarly information heart of the university is being questioned as information technology makes Information ever more easily accessible. And the recent technological development may alter the fundamental concept or identity of the academic library in the twenty-first century. This paper examines the ways in which information technology have chanced the academic library over the last decades and deals with the logical interrelation of 'information technology' and 'management' in the context of academic libraries in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impacts of information technology on academic library management (organizational structure. librarian's job and role. budget allocation and expenditures, space planning and functionality, collection paradigm, user service, academic entity, etc) and suggests a desirable acceptance attitudes and efficient management acceptance attitude and management.
A Study on Implementation of Information Management System for Library
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 115~134
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.115
According to increase share ratio of information on library be unable bring to maintain knowledge and information resource management for information audit and control on management vision in non-profit organization. Application of information management system was necessary to the systems integration and total management activity in total management system of organization. Library must be to investigate knowledge and information promotion and management innovation needs to consider to gather into a bundle problems to include social and economic requirements. This research be able to adaption all library standardization rule review adapt ability of information management system through the analysis compared to various developed performance indicator for library and level evaluation indicator for information management system. Library will be expanse efficiency of organization, satisfaction of users and level up the National competition through the adaptation of information management system.
An Integrated Ontological Approach to Effective Information Management in Science and Technology
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 135~161
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.135
This study presents a multilingual integrated ontological approach that enables linking classification systems. thesauri. and terminology databases in science and technology for more effective indexing and information retrieval online. In this integrated system, we designed a thesaurus model with concept as a unit and designated essential data elements for a terminology database on the basis of ISO 12620 standard. The classification system for science and technology adopted in this study provides subject access channels from other existing classification systems through its mapping table. A prototype system was implemented with the field of nuclear energy as an application area.
A Study on the Preparation and Reformation Plan of Academic Library Web Pages by Suggested Evaluation Criteria
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 1, 2002, Pages 163~187
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.1.163
The objective of this study was not only to evaluate different academic library homepages but to hit upon and suggest a reformation plan for their future improvement. For this purpose. academic library web pages of Korea were divided into three major groups -- those of national universities, private ones, and junior colleges. Their web pages were evaluated using a number of criteria. Also, their circumstances and problems were tried to grasp and the methods to be corrected were suggested in this thesis. Literature review were performed for this study and suggestions and advices from professional groups that is called Delphi method were used as a tool to achieve the objective of this study. For a basic analysis, frequency analysis and descriptive statistics were used for analysing data. Also, t-test, ANOVA, and chi-square analysis were used to examine whether there are any significant differences in each groups or not. and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were used to find out the correlation among several variables.
