A Study on the Musical Theme Clustering for Searching Note Sequences
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 5~30
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.005
In this paper, classification feature is selected with focus of musical content, note sequences pattern, and measures similarity between note sequences followed by constructing clusters by similar note sequences, which is easier for users to search by showing the similar note sequences with the search result in the CBMR system. Experimental document was

, the index of theme bar focused on classical music and obtained kern-type file. Humdrum Toolkit version 1.0 was used as note sequences treat tool. The hierarchical clustering method is by stages focused on four-type similarity matrices by whether the note sequences segmentation or not and where the starting point is. For the measurement of the result, WACS standard is used in the case of being manual classification and in the case of the note sequences starling from any point in the note sequences, there is used common feature pattern distribution in the cluster obtained from the clustering result. According to the result, clustering with segmented feature unconnected with the starting point Is higher with distinct difference compared with clustering with non-segmented feature.

DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.111
In order to investigate information seeking behavior of web search users, this study analyzes transaction logs posed by users of NAVER, a major Korean Internet search service. We present a session definition method for Web transaction log analysis, a way of cleaning original logs and a query classification method. We also propose a query term definition method that is necessary for Korean Web transaction log analysis. It is expected that this study could contribute to the development and implementation of more effective Web search systems and services.
An Investigation of the Objectiveness of Image Indexing from Users' Perspectives
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 123~143
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.123
Developing good methods for image description and indexing is fundamental for successful image retrieval, regardless of the content of images. Researchers and practitioners in the field of image indexing have developed a variety of image indexing systems and methods with the consideration of information types delivered by images. Such efforts in developing image indexing systems and methods include Panofsky's levels of image indexing and indexing systems adopting different approaches such as thesauri-based approach, classification approach. description element-based approach, and categorization approach. This study investigated users' perception of the objectiveness of image indexing, especially the iconographical analysis of image information advocated by Panofsky. One of the best examples of subjectiveness and conditional-dependence of image information is emotion. As a result, this study dealt with visual emotional information. Experiments were conducted in two phases : one was to measure the degree of agreement or disagreement about the emotional content of pictures among forty-eight participants and the other was to examine the inter-rater consistency defined as the degree of users' agreement on indexing. The results showed that the experiment participants made fairly subjective interpretation when they were viewing pictures. It was also found that the subjective interpretation made by the participants resulted from the individual differences in terms of their educational or cultural background. The study results emphasize the importance of developing new ways of indexing and/or searching for images, which can alleviate the limitations of access to images due to the subjective interpretation made by different users.
An Analytical Study on Research Patterns in Library and Information Science : 1996-2000
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 145~160
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.145
Different from the existing tendency to mainly concentrate on the study of research activities of the library and information science, this paper places the focus on grasping research patterns presented in the journal papers which reflect library Practices. Actually, this paper analyzes research areas, the degree of relative dependence by subjects, and leading journals found in the papers which have been reported in the three main library journals such as "Tosogwan", "National Assembly Library Review", and "KLA Bulletin : Tosogwanmunwha" from 1996 to 2000. As a result, the study says that major research areas in library practices show the high degree of dependence on the library and information science, while the degree of dependence on the information science is low.he information science is low.
A Study on Evaluating Service Quality in Special Libraries
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 161~188
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.161
The rapid change in almost every area of science at the turn of the 21s1 century have also affected libraries and information centers. Whatever the change, from the library users' perspective, the functions provided by the library, is perceived as "service" and the satisfaction of the users can only be measured by the quality of the service. The study adopted the SERVQUAL model and five factors of SERVQUAL. Tangibles, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance. and Empathy are used as parameter values. In measuring the parameter variable, both the users' expectations and their perceived service level were measured. The difference between the expectations and the perceived level was used as users' assessment of service quality. According to the results. all but re-investment dependence level among the five SERVQUAL levels, were linked in one way or another.r another.

An Evaluation Study on the Copyright Protection Environment for Digital Libraries
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 211~326
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.211
This study is to analyze and evaluate copyright protection environment in digital reproduction and transmission, find out problems involved. and suggest recommendations for improvement. Data was collected 50 libraries to which digital reproduction and transmission is permitted under the Copyright Act were surveyed to examine the present states of digitalization and the systems employed. Also, library users, sampled from 5 libraries carrying out all the 6 technical measures obliged by the Copyright Act, were surveyed to examine their use of digital materials and perception on the copyright. After reviewing descriptive statistics, frequency and cross-tabulation analysis were made. The results of the analysis are most of the libraries. except for the industry university libraries, have implemented digital library systems, but the introduction rate of both digital reproduction system and transmission system are high (68.0% and 84.0%. respectively), while that of copyright protection system was low (26.0%). 84.0% of the libraries surveyed digitalize the full text, but the Libraries have digital collection less than 5,000 items, and only 33.3% of them digitalize materials with securing the copyrights. Regulations on copyright protections are not obliged properly. and it appeared that not only users' perception and perception of copyright as well as their use of electronic books are relatively low.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 19, issue 3, 2002, Pages 237~261
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2002.19.3.237
The purpose of this study is to measure the library online service quality based on the expectation and the service performance from the users' point of view. The online questionnaire was developed based on SERVQUAL, however information quality dimension was added on it, and the survey was conducted within a research library. The factor analysis for effecting library online services showed that 5 service dimensions were loaded discretely, and information quality was put in the other dimension. The IPA (Important Performance Analysis) result confirmed that information quality, service reliability, and service assurance were considered as important factors : multiple regression analysis revealed that tangibility and information quality were the most significant dimension for the library online service.
