A Study on the Design of a Retrieval System for the Architectural Drawings
Lee, Yang-Ok ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 3~23
In this thesis, a computerized retrieval system was designed for architectural drawings to provide a faster and more efficient access to information on drawings in architectural design offices. The programs were written in COBOL 5, and operated on the CYBER 170-825 computer at the Yonsei University Computer Center.
A Study of Computerized Acquisition Systems in Research Library
Shin, Dong-Min ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 24~49
The purpose of this study is to design a computerized acquisition system in order to eliminate problems of manual system providing that new system will promise to have the library offereing better services. The next aim is to suggest library administrators the rationale of converting their manual system into computerized system and to provide librarians "know how" as well. The computerized acquisition system designed data-files and subsystems basing upon on-line processing mode. The study suggests the results obtained from computerized acquision procedures.
A Study of CAB'S Function and Information Services
Kim, Young-Kuy ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 50~69
The aim of this paper is to explain information activities, services and products of CAB (The Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux) and especially to stress the role of CAB in the field of agriculture and its related areas in the developing countries.
A Study on the Impact of the use of Data Bases on Reference Services
Cho, Sook-Kie ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 70~95
The purpose of the present study is to verify the two hypotheses: (1) Online services are fundamentally automated versions of the reference services. Accordingly there will be a major impact on reference services when Online service is introduced into the traditional library environment. The chief impact will be that the use of data bases retrieval service supplements and improves the traditional reference service when Online service is coordinated with the traditional reference service. and is fully incorporated into the existing user service areas. (2) The availability of data bases retrieval service will make it possible for the first time for the reference services to offer substantial search services of any kind resources limited to the printed sources. In light of such circumstances, libraries would provide better service to their users and greatly increase the productivity of reference librarians. There will be also the recognition that a result of an improved professional image for reference librarians and the library heightens user interest. This change may be translated into increased usage of library services generally. To achieve the purpose, 4 Research Libraries adopted Online retrieval from DIALOG's data bases-searching and reference services available in-house were chosen.
A Study on the Retrieval Effectiveness of KWIC Index versus Descriptor Index
Choi, Sang-Ki ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 96~107
The purpose of this study is to compare the retrieval effectiveness of KWIC index by automatic indexing method with Descriptor index by manual indexing method. The number of documents and requests used in this experimental study are 281 journal articles and 10 user requests in the area of nuclear engineering. The results of experiment show an average recall ratio of 54.89% for KWIC index and 64.42% for Descriptor index.
An Experiment on Automatic Query Modification In Information Retrieval Using the Relevance Feedback
Shin, Young-Shil ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 108~135
When an information retrieval system is implemented on-line, users can interact with the system to improve the searches. There are studies which achieved dramatic improvements in system effectiveness by using automatic relevance feedback, a technique for reformulating a patron query based on initial retrieval result. In this thesis, an automatic query modification model was applied to a controlled keyword system.
A Study on Document Retrieval Using Bibliographic Citations
Kim, Young-Min ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 2, issue 1, 1985, Pages 136~163
A user who retrieved relevant documents from the existing commercial databases may be not always satisfied with the results of the traditional bibliographic searches using the subject index terms. On the assumption that the user wants more relevant documents in such instances, this thesis presents an expanded search strategy by carrying out an experiment using bibliographic citations as another content indicator in addition to index terms.
