Lee, Jee-Yeon ; Kim, Sung-Un ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 20, issue 2, 2003, Pages 1~26
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2003.20.2.001
Diverse disciplines such as information science, computer science, cognitive science, and industrial design, are activity engaged in the website evaluation research efforts. Information scientists emphasize the importance of user-centered and user-friendly website design, which is also easy to use, This idea is based on the understanding that the users and the designers are different set of people. In addition, information scientists consider the practice of maximally incorporating user inputs during the website design to be very important guideline. However, this study is based on a newly emerging population of website users who are also designers. 218 study participants evaluated the websites that they designed in comparison to the websites designed by others. According to the survey data analysis, the study participants considered the content delivery, design simplicity, design consistency, and link access of the websites to be equally important from both users` and designers` perspectives. However, the content organization, rich content, and screen composition were underestimated from the designers` point of view whereas these factors were considered to be important from users` point of view.

A public information system is being expanded, along with the advance of information technology, to strengthen national competitiveness and provide people with better services. And there also is a growin need for the better performance of that system, as a tremendous amount of public financial resources is invested in that. To address that need, it`s required to make an evaluation of its efficiency on a regular basis to identify its problems and make it work better. The purpose of this study was, accordinglu, to examine the quality of data and services provided by the Work-Net, a Web-based public employment information system. The subjects in this study were 102 users of it, and the system was evaluated in terms of content, accuracy, timeliness, display format, ease of use and customer support. For data analysis, t-test and one-way ANOVA were implemented to find out the general characteristics of the users, and to see Whether or not their view was different according to the type of information they searched for. The findings of this study are expected to lay some foundation for intensifying the efficiency of the public and private employment information systems.
A Study on Metadata Formats for Integration of Cultural Contents
Cho, Yoon-Hee ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 20, issue 2, 2003, Pages 114~133
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2003.20.2.114
Recently, the organizations related to cultural contents are gradually expanding access to cultural contents for general public through the distributed network. However, since cultural contents have different characteristics than general contents, the objects, the of cultural contents seldom contain the words generally used for organization and search of information. If the cultural contents system is created without any consideration of such differences. We cannot effectively identify and search resources. Moreover, because the names, expressions and meanings are different between metadata elements of various cultural contents, it is very difficult to interconnect or share information between different systems. In order to solve these problems, proper organization ad management of metadata is vital. In this studym we have comparatively analyzed the data elements of each format based on Dublin Core, EAD, VRA, CDWA, CIMI, and Object ID, the metadata formats approached from various aspects in the cultural contents area. Through this study, we tried to provide the basic materials for integration of cultural contents by securing interoperability of different metadata formats.
