Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 7~34
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.007
Structures of stories, paragraphs, and sentences and inferences applied to indexing and searching were studied to construct the full-text and sentence retrieval system for storytelling. The system designed the database of stories, paragraphs, and sentences and the knowledge-base of inference rules to aid to write the story. The Knowledge-base comprised the files of story frames, paragraph scripts, and sentence logics made by mark-up languages like SWRL etc. able to operate in semantic web. It is necessary to establish more precise indexing language represented the sentences and to create a mark-up languages able to construct more accurate inference rules.

DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.035
One of the main goals of providing open access is to vitalize the exchange of academic information by allowing access to the scholarly research outputs for everyone without the legal, financial, and technical barriers. We regard the use of the institutional repository as an open access enabler. In this study, we tried to make the factors, which enable the successful deployment of the institutional repository, explicit. We utilized literature review and case studies to generate the potential success factors for the institutional repository deployment. We verified the factors by having in-depth interviews with the subject matter experts. The resulting factors were organized as organizational, political, and technical ones. The organizational factors included the strong open access support by the organization heads. Under the policy factors, a number of issues such as selection of the core contents, minimum quality control, protection of the copyrights, forming supporting groups through active advertising, long-term preservation, incentive, and mandate, were included. The technical factors included easy submission, support for interoperability, and support for the publication activities.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 81~92
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.081
This paper proposes a technique for improving performance using word senses and user feedback in web information retrieval, compared with the retrieval based on ambiguous user query and index. Disambiguation using query word senses can eliminating the irrelevant pages from the search result. According to semantic categories of nouns which are used as index for retrieval, we build the word sense knowledge-base and categorize the web pages. It can improve the precision of retrieval system with user feedback deciding the query sense and information seeking behavior to pages.

Kim, Yong ; So, Min-Ho ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 113~128
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.113
Generally, a user uses briefly summarized video data and text information to search video contents. To provide fast and accurate search tool for video contents in the process of searching video contents, this study proposes a method to search video clips which was partitioned from video contents. To manage and control video contents and metadata, the proposed method creates structural information based on XML on a video and metadata, and saves the information into XML database. With the saved information, when a user try to search video contents, the results of user's query to retrieve video contents would be provided through creating Xpath which has class structure information. Based on the proposed method, an information retrieval system for video clips was designed and implemented.

Professions with librarianship can be found in various fields. It includes all different kinds of libraries, including academic, public, special, and school libraries. Moreover, there are national and commercial information distribution bodies, and other bodies supporting the national body such as library automation companies, library supply companies, and library outsourcing companies. Careers of those who have studied in library and information science could be developed in all these fields. High flexibility and labour turnover can be expected due to the wide range of career fields. Nevertheless, there have been very little studies reflecting the reasons of high level of turnovers and flexibility in librarian workforce. Therefore, this paper invastigates career movement and development of librarian as a foundation stone of further researches. It also analyzes career development process of librarians, including career paths of those working in libraries and other related areas, their efforts for career development, factors influencing their career movements.
A Study on Factors which affect Immediacy Indexes for Biology Journals
Shin, Eun-Ja ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 169~186
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.169
This paper examined what factors affect the immediacy index showing the average number of times an article is cited in the year it is published. Not only Seventy-one immediacy indexes for subject field biology on JCR 2008 edition were gathered, but also many characteristics of scholarly journals that may influence the indexes directly or indirectly were aggregated. Simple correlation coefficient analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis were performed on the paper. Therefore factors such as physical volume, availability, forthcoming issue, age and language explaining 67.64% of total variance were identified. After regression analysis using these factors as independent variables, the results were statistically significant. The results showed physical volumes, the total pages of publication, have an influence upon immediacy indexes obviously, although it is expected that journal reputations may affect immediacy indexes. Generally open access journals had high immediacy indexes. High ranked journals on immediacy index were apt to be issued frequently, uploaded very often on PMC, and published in major countries including United States and United Kingdom.

Oh, Kyung-Mook ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 299~318
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.299
The ideas of user oriented service wasn't a major issue in libraries in the past decade. However, from now on, our library visitors have choices in the book selection processes, and the library may not be the first choice for their information demands. Competitors such as museum, culture center, and even private reading academy are those who anticipate user demands and satisfy them before the librarians do. What may have been perceived as excellent service a few years ago is not acceptable today anymore in the library. This study reveals current situation of English library collection and their practice as a sound English learning tool for Korean students. The researcher introduces library Marketing Concept and Reading Programs as an effective management tool.

Hwang, Sang-Kyu ; Byun, Yeong-Tae ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 26, issue 4, 2009, Pages 319~336
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2009.26.4.319
Semantic web technology is the evolution of current World Wide Web including a machine-understandable knowledge database, ontology, it may be enable machine and people to work together. However, problems arise when we try to communicate with different data, which are annotated by different ontologies created by different people with different concepts. Thus, to communicate between ontologies, it needs to align between heterogeneous ontologies. When it is aligned between concept nodes of heterogeneous ontologies, one of main problems is a misalignment situation caused by false negative of automatic ontology mapping. So, in this paper, we present a new method to minimize the false negative error in the process of aligning concept nodes of different ontology.
