An Analytical Study on Performance Factors of Automatic Classification based on Machine Learning
Kim, Pan Jun ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 33~59
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.033
This study examined the factors affecting the performance of automatic classification for the domestic conference papers based on machine learning techniques. In particular, In view of the classification performance that assigning automatically the class labels to the papers in Proceedings of the Conference of Korean Society for Information Management using Rocchio algorithm, I investigated the characteristics of the key factors (classifier formation methods, training set size, weighting schemes, label assigning methods) through the diversified experiments. Consequently, It is more effective that apply proper parameters (
) and training set size (more than 5 years) according to the classification environments and properties of the document set. and If the performance is equivalent, I discovered that the use of the more simple methods (single weighting schemes) is very efficient. Also, because the classification of domestic papers is corresponding with multi-label classification which assigning more than one label to an article, it is necessary to develop the optimum classification model based on the characteristics of the key factors in consideration of this environment.
The Distinct Impact Dimensions of the Prestige Indices in Author Citation Networks
Ahn, Hyerim ; Park, Ji-Hong ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 61~76
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.061
This study aims at proposing three prestige indices-closeness prestige, input domain, and proximity prestige- as useful measures for the impact of a particular node in citation networks. It compares these prestige indices with other impact indices as it is still unknown what dimensions of impact these indices actually measure. The prestige indices enable us to distinguish the most prominent actors in a directed network, similar to the centrality indices in undirected networks. Correlation analysis and principal component analysis were conducted on the author citation network to identify the differentiated implications of the three prestige indices from the existing impact indices. We selected simple citation counting, h-index, PageRank, and the three kinds of centrality indices which assume undirected networks as the existing impact measures for comparison with the three prestige indices. The results indicate that these prestige indices demonstrate distinct impact dimension from the other impact indices. The prestige indices reflect indirect impact while the others direct impact.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 103~133
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.103
The valuation of patented technology has been recently emphasized, and the patent citation is known as an important factor. This study performed a generalized linear model to find variables that effect the patent citation. We classified 13 variables as morphological, technological and conceptual factors and used them to find out effective variables in 14 medical devices classification. Through the empirical study, we found seven effective variables (assignee nationality, assignee character, the number of inventors, the number of application countries, the number of IPC, the number of references, the strength of bibliographic coupling). In order to apply to Korean industry, this study has significance that provides basic research to citation analysis model.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 135~156
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.135
Recently, as the importance of user-oriented archives management is becoming increasingly, government archives try to serve interactive services using social network service (SNS) beyond one-way approaches. This study aims to analyze usage of government archives service in social media and examine users' interestedness. We especially select "National Archives of Korea" and "Presidential Archives" as target government archives and collect tweets from 2010 to 15th April 2016. Our study adopts informetric approaches and social media analysis including buzz analysis, time series analysis. We differentiate between the tweet collection posted by government archives themselves and the other collection generated by general users. Furthermore we conduct correlation analysis of tweet and social issues and propose application plan for government archives services in social media environment.

Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 157~176
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.157
Cited-by Linking Service is one of the CrossRef's information services that allows you to discover how your publications are being cited and to incorporate that information into your online publication platform. This study tries to investigate citation patterns in the field of both Natural Science and Engineering using all of DOI assigned articles and Cited-by Linking data which are accumulated and managed by KISTI. The investigating approach is designed to verify the theory of 1) cognitive accessibility, 2) 'perceived quality and significance' and 3) 'subject relativity'. For cognitive accessibility verification the fulltext language portion of Korean and English between "Cited DOI Source Data" and "NOT Cited DOI Source Data" was compared. For perceived quality and significance verification the availability of the "Cited DOI Source Data" and "NOT Cited DOI Source Data" from SCIE and SCOPUS was employed. For subject relativity DOI data were classified and analysed on the basis of OECD subject classification scheme. Findings are that global citability is closely related to the fulltext language of the articles and their quality and significance. And in the natural science field most of citations are from the same subject categories, while relatively more citations are from other subject categories in the engineering field.

Lee, Jee Yeon ; Kam, Miah ; Han, Nam Gi ; Song, Hanna ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 177~200
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.177
The purpose of this study was to analyze how the Library and Information Science (LIS) related research efforts in Korea contributed to the progress of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) discipline to identify the potential collaboration research partners and topics. The following data was used for the network and frequency analysis: titles, keywords and affiliation information extracted from the Korean journals serving the LIS fields as well as the conference proceedings of the Korean HCI society. Information communication technology, computer engineering, and technology industry had been active in research collaborations but LIS field was comparatively not active. This study was able to determine that LIS researchers carried out important research but they had not much interests in the topics that required interdisciplinary collaboration. However, there were a number of papers, which were not authored by LIS discipline researchers, in the LIS related journals. In addition, there are a few ongoing interdisciplinary research projects which included LIS researchers. This reveals that it is possible for the LIS field could play an important role in the future if the researchers actively participate the collaborative projects.

Kim, Jo-Ah ; Lee, Jae Yun ;
Journal of the Korean Society for information Management, volume 33, issue 2, 2016, Pages 201~225
DOI : 10.3743/KOSIM.2016.33.2.201
A new technique for revealing the research fronts of a interdisciplinary discipline has been developed. Citation image makers profiling (CIMP) determines the relationships between research papers with the title words of the citing documents. We adapted this new technique to analyze the research fronts and hot topics in women's studies of Korea. By Korean Citation Index (KCI) data in 2015, we selected 148 papers cited more than 9 times as the core documents of women's studies. Analysis of intellectual structure using citation image makers profiling was performed with the 148 core documents and those citing papers. Document co-citation analysis was hindered by citation data sparsity, while CIMP method successfully revealed the structure of research fronts of Korean women's studies including 2 divisions and 6 subdivisions. The CIMP method suggested in this study has good potential to discover the characteristics of research fronts of interdisciplinary research domains.
