Study on Metalizing 2% Na-PbTe for Thermoelectric Device

Heat emission from the laser diode used in the optical disc drive and the defects from the increased temperature at the system have attracted attentions from the field of the information storage device. Thermoelectric refrigerator is one of the fine solutions to solve these thermal problems. The refrigeration performance of thermoelectric device is dependent on the thermoelectric material's figure-of-merit. Meanwhile, high electrical contact resistivity between metal electrode and p- and n-type thermoelectric materials in the device would lead increased total electrical resistance resulting in the degeneracy in performance. This paper represents the manufacturing process of the PbTe-based material which has one of the highest figure-of-merit at medium-high-temperature, ~ 600K to 900 K, and the nickel contact layer for reduced electrical contact resistance at once, and the results showing the decent contact structure and figure-of-merit even after the long-term operation environment.
Investigation of Wear Behavior of LCD Panel Glass

LCD panels are used widely in all sorts of devices. Since glass is the main material used to make the panels, scratch resistance is an important issue in acquiring high quality LCD panels. In this work the wear behaviors of three types of commercially available LCD panel glasses were investigated. A pin-on-reciprocating tribotester was used to perform the wear tests using the glass specimens against a stainless steel ball. The hardness of the specimens was initially obtained. It was shown that the wear amount varied with respect to the applied load as well as the type of glass. The wear pattern of the glass specimen was also characterized using confocal microscopy. It is expected that the results of this work will aid in improving the tribological properties of LCD panel glass.
Patch Antenna Shape Design Using the Genetic Algorithm

This study deals with obtaining the optimal shape of a patch antenna via the topology optimization method in order to enhance its radiation efficiency. The genetic algorithm scheme is proposed for the optimization process to satisfy the design objective. As a result, the optimal patch shape through the proposed process shows highly improved radiation efficiency and reduced scattered effects. Commercial package COMSOL and Matlab programming are employed for the entire optimization and analysis processes.
Optical encryption of multiple images using amplitude mask and 2D chaos function

Object image using DRPE(Double Random Phase Encryption) in 4f system is encrypted by space-division method using amplitude mask. However, this method has the weakness for the case of having partial data of amplitude mask which can access the original image. To improve the security, we propose the method using the 2-dimension logistic chaos function which shuffles the encrypted data. It is shown in simulation results that the proposed method is highly sensitive to chaos function parameters. To properly decrypt from shuffled encryption data, below 1e-5 % errors of each parameter should be required. Thus compared with conventional method the proposed shows the higher security level.
Design and Fabrication of Optical Element for Speckle Reduction in Laser Projector

Laser projector has many advantages of high brightness, high resolution and small size, but the huge drawback of image degradation called speckle which generated by coherence of laser and roughness of surface interrupts their general use. There are many methods to reduce speckle pattern, but they need effective optical systems to realize display to the far field with huge volume. We designed speckle reduction element by using microlens with controlled curvature to reduce spatial coherence. Vibration element was also applied to reduce temporal coherence which considered response time of eye. Designed element was fabricated by simple reflow method and imprinting method. From the results, the fabricated element performed 48.33% of speckle reduction efficiency and 41.29% of optical efficiency with a single doublet lens.
Study on behavior of multilayer ceramic capacitor caused by piezoelectricity

Vibration and acoustic noise arise from the Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) because of the piezoelectric effect of dielectric substance which consists of
. However, the phenomenon is not analyzed clearly because the MLCC shows different behavior compare with ordinary piezoelectric substance like PZT. Thus, MLCC was tested under the several DC bias conditions and heat treatment effect was also tested and analyzed in this paper. From the test, MLCC shows not only piezoelectric effect but also another physical phenomenon like electrostriction. Also, it was verified that DC bias affect to the piezoelectric constant of MLCC.
