Real Time Light Intensity Control Algorithm Using Digital Image Mask for the Holographic Data Storage System

Holographic data storage system(HDSS) has many noise sources - crosstalk, scattering and inter pixel interference, etc. Generally the intensity of a light generated from the laser source has Gaussian distribution and this ununiformity of light also can make the data page to have a low SNR. A beam apodizer is used to make the laser as a flat-top beam but the intensity distribution is not strictly uniform. The intensity of light can be controlled using image mask. In this paper the intensity distribution of light used for HDSS is controlled by a digital image mask. The digital image mask is changed arbitrarily in real-time with suggested algorithm for the HDSS.
Design of Slim Actuator with Symmetric Electromagnetic Circuit

Researches for actuator which is appropriate to slim optical disk drive (ODD) have been progressed for a long time. Various types of actuators are suggested to secure high performances with slim thickness. In this paper, the slim actuator with symmetric electromagnetic (EM) circuit is suggested to apply slim ODD. Various EM circuits are proposed to increase EM force in the focusing and the tracking directions. Flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities are increased by using stress distribution and design of experiment (DOE). Consequently, final model is suggested to have high flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities.
Analysis for PSA Tolerance of TAMR Suspension

Thermally-assisted magnetic recording (TAMR) is a potentially promising approach to increase the storage density of hard disk drive (HDD). However, TAMR has some issues such as temperature effects, media problems, thermal deformation and light delivery. In this research, we focused on light delivery. One of the powerful methods to deliver the light from laser diode to recording medium is the use of an optical fiber and a specially designed prism. However, the TAMR with optical fiber may have some flyability problems induced by the mounted optical fiber and prism. Also, the TAMR suspension using an optical fiber has high vertical and pitch stiffness. Therefore, p-torque is greatly increased by the optical fiber. Also, flying height (FH) of the slider with TAMR suspension can be largely changed by p-torque. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on the pitch static attitude (PSA) tolerance and the FH by PSA of the TAMR suspension. The FH is investigated using various errors and the PSA tolerance for TAMR suspension is proposed.
Speech Recognition of Multi-Syllable Words Using Soft Computing Techniques

The performance of the speech recognition mainly depends on uncertain factors such as speaker's conditions and environmental effects. The present study deals with the speech recognition of a number of multi-syllable isolated Korean words using soft computing techniques such as back-propagation neural network, fuzzy inference system, and fuzzy neural network. Feature patterns for the speech recognition are analyzed with 12th order thirty frames that are normalized by the linear predictive coding and Cepstrums. Using four models of speech recognizer, actual experiments for both single-speakers and multiple-speakers are conducted. Through this study, the recognizers of combined fuzzy logic and back-propagation neural network and fuzzy neural network show the better performance in identifying the speech recognition.
Effects of Confocal Filter for Reading of Micro Holographic Data Storage

In this paper, we investigate the confocal filter for high quality reading signal of micro holographic data storage system. The confocal filter is used to remove crosstalk effects of adjacent recording-layer by multi-layer multiplexing method. To remove a noise of reading signal, we consider size and geometrical structure of filter. From the obtained results, we present optical characteristics including Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction effects. Finally, we propose the optimal confocal filter for good image quality and increased reflection power.
Bit Error Reduction for Holographic Data Storage System Using Subclustering

Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time. Today any data storage system cannot satisfy these conditions, however holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System can be constructed without mechanical actuating part so fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about 1Tb/cm3 can be realized. In this research, to correct errors of binary data stored in holographic data storage system, a new method for reduction errors is suggested. First, find cluster centers using subtractive clustering algorithm then reduce intensities of pixels around cluster centers. By using this error reduction method following results are obtained ; the effect of Inter Pixel Interference noise in the holographic data storage system is decreased and the intensity profile of data page becomes uniform therefore the better data storage system can be constructed.
Micro replication quality of Fresnel lens using UV imprinting process

Fresnel lens is a kind of refractive optical lens with various advantages. It has nearly flat shaped optical lens that has small mass. Fresnel lens has number of applications in the compact optical systems. Recently, demands of high quality Fresnel lens for small size optical systems such as illumination units, compact imaging systems, display units, information storage systems, optical detecting units had increased rapidly. Conventional manufacturing process of high quality Fresnel lens is direct machining. However, it is not suitable for mass production because of high cost and long cycle time. Replication method can provide cost effective mass production process. However, there are various issues about replication of Fresnel lens. Fresnel lens has number of sharp blade shape prism. In the replication process, this blade shape causes defects that can affect optical efficiency. In this study, replication processes; injection molding process and UV imprinting process, were developed and evaluated using Fresnel lens that has maximum pattern height of
and aspect ratio of 1.5.
