Methodology on Improving Vibration Characteristics of Servo Write Fixture

This paper presents a method to improve vibration characteristics of servo track write (STW) fixture. STW fixtures supported by flexible mounts are subject to various vibration sources. Using Finite element analysis (FEA) vibration modes of the fixture are identified. The FEA results suggest certain vibration modes be reduced through design change of flexible mounts to improve vibration responses of the fixture. Based on layered flexible mounts theory a parametric study on shear and bending stiffness is performed to obtain a suitable flexible mount design leading to increased resistance to rocking motion. Experiments confirm improvement of vibration characteristics and drive performance through new mounts design.
Fiber Optics for Multilayered Optical Memory

We have developed a compact and high-power mode-locked fiber laser for multilayered optical memory. Fiber lasers have the potential to be compact and stable light sources that can replace bulk solid-state lasers. To generate high-power pulses, we used stretched-pulse mode locking. The average power and pulse width of the output pulse from the fiber laser that we developed were 109 mW and 2.1 ps, respectively. The dispersion of the output pulse was compensated with an external single-mode fiber of 2.5 m length. The pulse was compressed from 2.1 ps to 93 fs by dispersion compensation. The fiber laser we have developed is possible to use as a light source of multilayered optical memory. We also present a fiber confocal microscope as an alignment-free readout system of multilayered optical memories. The fiber confocal microscope does not require fine pinhole position alignment because the fiber core is used as the point light source and the pinhole, and both of which are always located at the conjugated point. The configuration reduces the required accuracy of pinhole position alignment. With these techniques we can present an all-fiber recording and readout system for multilayered memories.
Fluid-Structure Interaction Modeling and Simulation of CMP Process for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Chemical mechanical planarization is one of the core processes in fabrication of semiconductors, which are increasingly used for information storage devices like solid state drives. For higher data capacity in storage devices, CMP process is required to show ultimate precision and accuracy. In this work, 2-dimensional finite element models were developed to investigate the effects of the slurry particle impact on microscratch generation and the phenomena generated at pad-particle-wafer contact interface. The results revealed that no plastic deformation and corresponding material removal could be generated by simple impact of slurry particles under real CMP conditions. From the results of finite element simulations, it could be concluded that the pad-particle mixture formed in CMP process would be one of major factors leading to microscratch generation.
Experimental investigation of TD characteristics of a flying head slider in the near-contact region

Head Disk Interface (HDI) in a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has decreased to achieve high areal density. Thus, the contact between a slider and a disk becomes more important. The contact between the slider and the disk can cause severe wear and damage of both the slider and the disk. Especially, Touch Down (TD) that the contact occurs continuously and repeatedly is extremely dangerous. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the unstable bouncing vibration of the slider in head-disk interface. In this paper, we investigate the characteristic and causes of the Touch Down.
Improvement of Dynamic Characteristics of OIS System using Improved Band Notch and Analysis of Images

The mobile camera module is a device to be inserted in the digital device for camera feature. The mobile camera module is being shaken by vibrations such as handshake during the exposure time. The clarity is compromised by these vibrations, thus the vibration is considered as an external disturbance. Moreover the use of mobile camera module has been being expanded for automotive vibration should be considered. These external disturbances can cause image blurring, thus optical image stabilization should be applied for image compensation. The compensator is fulfilled mechanically by movable lens group or image sensor that adjusts the optical path to the camera movement. Open loop control is useful for well-defined systems like compliant mechanism. Notch filter and lead compensator are designed and applied to improve the stability and bandwidth. The final level of image compensating is confirmed by image processing with MATLAB and CODE V to verify the better performance.
Design of Optical Image Stabilization Actuator for Compensating Hand Tremble

Recently mobile phone camera become generally spread, it is required to develop high resolution, multi-functional camera module for obtaining high image quality. To satisfy this demand, number of pixels has been increased and pixel size decreased in small mobile phone cameras. As a result, image quality is seriously dropped by blur phenomena. Especially when hand tremble is occurred, image quality is dropped by camera shake. Therefore, to obtain high quality image, it is necessary to compensate user`s hand tremble. In this paper, we propose voice coil actuator for compensating hand tremble, which can apply optical image stabilization (OIS) system. Sensitivity analysis and size optimization are performed to obtain high driving force. Finally, it is confirmed that the optimized electromagnetic circuit can be applied in OIS system.
Design of 3-Axis Moving Magnet Type Electromagnetic Actuator using Integrated Design Method

In this paper, we propose the integrated design method that enables multi-physics modeling and coupled-field analysis by connecting an electromagnetic field and a structural field. We design the 3-axis moving magnet type actuator that has the high structural stiffness and the effective electromagnetic circuit generating large electromagnetic force. Through design of experiments (DOE) and optimization, the designed actuator is optimized and satisfies high dynamic characteristics over the desired specifications.
Retrieving Angle Searching Method using Pre-scan for Holographic Data Storage

In retrieving process in angle multiplexing Holographic Data Storage(HDS), It is important to search the exact recording angles. In this paper, we propose the retrieving angle searching method using pre-scan. Pre-scan method is means that rotating the galvano mirror before the retrieving process. Therefore, retrieving signals are maximized when between the galvano mirror and recoded angle are exactly matched. Through the measured signals, we will find the exact angle and compensate tangential tilt angle. The experimental results shows propose method is enough to apply the HDS.
