Thin film solar cell efficiency improvement using the surface plasmon effect

In spite of many advantages, the practical application of the thin film solar cell is restricted due to its low efficiency compared with the bulk type solar cells. This study intends to adopt the surface plasmon effect using nano particles to solve the low efficiency problem in thin film solar cells. By inserting Ag nano-particles in the absorbing layer of a thin film solar cell, the poynting vector value of the absorbing layer is increased due to the strong energy field. Increasing the value may give thin film solar cells chance to absorb more energy from the incident beam so that the efficiency of the thin film solar cell can be improved. In this work, we have designed the optimal shape of Ag nano-particle in the absorbing laser of a basic type thin film solar cell using the finite element analysis commercial package COMSOL. Design parameters are set to the particle diameter and the distance between each Ag nano-particle and by changing those parameters using the full factorial design variable set-up, we can determine optimal design of Ag nano-particles for maximizing the poynting vector value in the absorbing layer.
Refractive media flatness measurement by phase shifting digital holography

We measured the surface flatness of both sides for refractive media using the transmitted digital holography method. To enhance the accuracy of the result, phase-shifting system was used. With two different phase modulation of reference beam, the phase profile of object can be easily obtained. Thus, we proposed the surface measurement method which can measure large area fast, compared with conventional methods. To guarantee the reliability of obtained result, we compared with Zygo measurement system. With the proposed method, the surface flatness of
resolution could be obtained.
Long-Term Data Stability Evaluation of BD-R according to Recording Speed for Archival Application

Optical disks are widely used in libraries and archives as digital data media due to their long-term storage stability. Though archive-grade optical disks are already available on the market, there is a relative less focusing on the reliable recording conditions. Commercial BD-R media were recorded at various recording speeds with the maximum speed of 6X, and tested at the acceleration aging conditions. Through the evaluation of long-term storage features by the data stability test, lower recording speed of 2x resulted in better long-term storage stability. In addition, degradation aspects of unstable long-term storage feature at outer region of disk were discussed.

Graphene oxide, which is exfoliated by oxidant from graphite, is the material for solving the problem of mass production and positioning. We made graphene oxide based devices by dielectrophoresis, studied and controlled factors which can affect the characteristic of graphene oxide channel. Graphene oxide channel assembled by dielectrophoresis can be constructed differently by various frequency options. We confirmed the change of gate characteristics and I-V characteristics in the range from 80K to 300K temperature.

In HDD industry, many technologies have been developed and investigated as means to increase the areal density of drives. Especially, heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) system has been considered as the next generation storage device. Most of the HAMR systems use near field optics as heating mechanism. Therefore, light delivery system is indispensable. We considered the light delivery system with laser diode (LD) mount and optical fiber. Mass and stiffness of the HAMR system using these LD mount and optical fiber are changed. The mass and stiffness of the HAMR system affects the slider dynamic behavior. It is necessary to analyze touch down (TD) and take off (TO). And, we performed the TD-TO experiment with HAMR suspension. Finally, we analyzed the result of TD-TO experiments. And we suggested the design of HAMR suspension to improve TD-TO performance.
Disc Tilt Error Measurement using Reconstructed Image Pattern for Holographic Data Storage

Page-oriented holographic data storage (HDS) is very sensitive to the tilt error. Therefore, tilt error should be measured and compensated. Especially, mechanical tilt measurement method cannot cope with tilt error measurement because photopolymer medium has shrinkage problem. Therefore, the method to solve this problem is using the reconstructed image which can represent both tilt and shrinkage effect. In this paper, we suggest disc tilt measurement algorithm using image pattern of retrieval data.
A Study on the Noise Reduction through the Control of Internal Flow for a Slim Type External ODD

The demand for the laptop computer has been increased day by day and most of users ask quiet computer and devices to work in comfortable environment. One of the devices which generate acoustic noise is an external ODD. Unlike the internal ODD, the external ODD is easy to emit noise because it runs outside of the computer and also it is packed with a thin plastic covers. As the disk rotates, vortex flow is generated inside of the cavity due to various and complicated mold parts of the cover. In addition, there is a gap between the disk tray and the upper/lower cases, through which the air flows as well as the noise leaks. In this study, we have proposed how to reduce the acoustic noise of an external ODD using numerical and experimental analysis. The pressure fluctuations and turbulent kinetic energy distributions are calculated for the developed model. The results show that the sound pressure level is reduced by 2.3dB through simple modifications of ribs of the top cover, which remove or suppress flow instabilities inside of the cavity.
